All the Candidates' Weddings

Candidate wedding stories are appearing on Bridesdecide.com

Two of the presidential candidates got married in Arkansas over a 15-month period from May 1974 to October 1975. But you might not have guessed that former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee had the larger wedding and got hitched in Hope, Arkansas, while the man who later made the town famous, Bill Clinton, married Hillary Rodham at a 15-person affair in the couple's home in Fayetteville, four hours to the north. The bridal Web sites knot.com and weddingchannel.com, are looking to get women to turn out for the 2008 election and have compiled information they received from the campaigns on how several of the candidates met and wed their spouses on www.bridesdecide.com. Huckabee and Clinton, along with fellow candidates Tommy Thompson and Mike Gravel, already have pictures and stories on the site.

As they tell it, Bill Clinton wooed Hillary, who had rejected a previous proposal the future president made in London, by purchasing a house in Fayetteville that she had told him in an off-hand remark that she liked. They wed on Oct. 11, 1975 in their new home. Huckabee and his wife Jane married a year earlier at a 75-person affair in Hope, where both Huckabee and Clinton grew up. The Republican reports that finishing the photos for the wedding was difficult. "We took photos before the ceremony and I was just starving," Huckabee said. "So Janet's mother cooked a hamburger for me and I ate it in between photos."
