Will Chelsea
Be Next?

News of Jenna Bush's engagement has touched off a flurry of excitement at the prospect of a White House wedding.

So since the speculation is running rampant, why not carry it further and wonder if Chelsea Clinton could have one of her own in the years ahead?

Of course, that would require that her mother, Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton, first win the Democratic nomination in 2008 and then the general election; that Chelsea, returned to the role of First Daughter, would want a public ceremony--oh, and that she would be engaged (though Chelsea has a serious boyfriend, they have not reported any wedding plans).

Chelsea has played a muted, private, role in her mother's campaign so far. She works and lives in New York, and has not campaigned publicly for Clinton. Though she is an active participant in the Manhattan social scene, she generates no controversy, and does not tend to grant interviews.

But if she is part of a First Family once more, Chelsea will receive all the interest that Jenna and her twin, Barbara, have over the last seven years--if not more, as the only child in history to head home to the White House with both parents. Jenna, meanwhile, only put out a simple statement through her mother's press office announcing her engagement to Henry Hager, whom she has been dating since they met during the 2004 campaign.

Oh, so why not a "royal" wedding to buoy up the Clinton monarchy. Bread and circuses are the thing to distract the People from Hillary's past foreign policy and health care blunders, and her stonewalling of documents when under investigation. Hillary will be able to dance with the lobbyists/guests who by then will steer the government, won't that be a sight?

Look if the nasty stuff people are writing here about Chelsea, the Bush twins and any other candidates children you want to bash makes you feel like you've scored some kind of hit, you're wrong. Ignorant anonymous trolls who take it out on politicians kids in comments are just acting out their own childish inferiorities. What's next..Barack Obama's young daughters? Fred Thompson's small children? Rudy has a point when he says leave my family alone. GROW UP!

Ed Mezvinsky, the father of Chelsea's beau Marc Mezvinsky, is currently serving time in federal prison for financial schemes involving Nigeria.

What is with bashing the children? Both the Bush daughters have been quiet doing what they want to do. None of these kids ran for office and I wish all of them the best. You all need to get a life!

Do you suppose Goldman Sachs let $100,000-a-year novice Chelsea near the trading desk to take the rap for all those soured CDO's? Said the father, "Limme tell ye how me 'n' yo' maw done dood it wif Whitewater, honey bunch!"

Uhhh, Retmit ? Excuse me ? Chelsea has an impeccable reputation ? There were numerous pictures several years ago of Chelsea being carried out of London pubs, dead drunk. I mean, we are talking seriously drunk photos. The Bush twins, at least in public, have never appeared nearly as drunk as she was. Do your homework !

Also, Jenna was an inner city school teacher. Chelsea works in the business sector, making hundreds of thousands of dollars. Why does that make her any better ?

Well gosh, I find it awfully funny that most of the comments blasting intellect (on both sides of the fence) are misspelled.

seems the hate is pretty even handed between the R's and the D's, conservatives and liberals . . . I think you are all pretty slimy.

Chelsea has an impecable reputation, even when away at school. Her schooling reflected her intellect. The Bush girls didn't fair well in the spotlight and from what I understand in school either. Never the less one is a teacher (we need them and it is one step above being a waitress). Jobs are difficult to find. Leave them all alone but Chelsea is a worthy young lady. That is Lady with a capital L.

How despicable can you get? Chelsea Clinton has never run for office, and she stays out of the limelight. Why be so callous and mean-spirited to someone just because of who her parents are? If you are going to spit such vitriol, save it for someone who has actually done something to you. Hate is not a family value.

What I have failed to understand is why conservatives and Republicans are always so angry. You got your war, your tax cuts (and resulting deficits), civil liberty rollbacks, and the Decider gets to screw things up for another 18 months!
