Fundraising With
The Rich and Famous
Summer can be a challenging season for political fundraising. Unless you follow the rich donor crowd to their summer homes.
Sen. Hillary Clinton has been working the summer circuit with fundraising events in The Hamptons next weekend and more in Martha's Vineyard and Nantucket in late August.
Sen. Barack Obama's finance staff, meanwhile, has been scrambling to prepare for an intimate September event hosted by Oprah Winfrey at her home in the uber-exclusve Santa Barbara-area enclave of Montecito. Tickets to the event sold out almost immediately.
Also on the Obama itinerary, the Ironwood Country Club in Omaha, Nebraska, which is no doubt lovely in August, really. The draw for that event is not the scenery, though, it's billionaire finance guru Warren Buffett, who is hosting the reception with daughter Susie Buffett and a handful of others. Buffett held an event earlier this year for Clinton, but has not endorsed either candidate.
