Musical Chairs for
The head-spinning changes at the Fred Thompson non-campaign have sparked a remarkable game of musical chairs for his departed staffers.
Remember Linda Rozett? She left her cushy job as a senior VP and chief of staff at the U.S. Chamber of Commerce a couple months ago to join Thompson as the communications director and top spokesperson.
She's out. The new manager of Thompson's "testing-the-waters" committee, Bill Lacy, wanted someone with more campaign experience in the job.
Lacy replaced Tom Collamore, who had been orignially recruited from a senior executive position at Altria, the parent company of Philip Morris. Collamore was ousted a month ago after Thompson decided he needed a more political manager.
See a trend here?
So what will Rozett do? She won't be taking her old job back, since the U.S. Chamber announced on Monday that it had already filled her position.
Who'd they get?
"The U.S. Chamber of Commerce has named Thomas J. Collamore as its Senior Vice President for Communications and Strategy and Counselor to the President," the press release says.
Yep. That Tom Collamore.
"Collamore was most recently the Vice President, Corporate Public Affairs of Altria Group Inc. and the Chief Operating Officer of the Friends for Fred Thompson Committee," the statement reads. "Tom's background in Washington and the business world makes him a perfect choice to push our communications and public education efforts to an entirely new level."
Which leaves us wondering whether Rozett should send her resume over to Altria.
We hear there's an opening.
