Colleges a Cash Cow for Dems
Republicans may typically have an edge when raising money from the nation's business executives. But there is one group that is contributing heavily to put a Democrat back in the White House: College professors.
A new report by the Center for Responsive Politics finds that college professors and other individuals in the education field have donated more money to federal political candidates than the oil industry and drugmakers -- more than $7 million to federal candidates, parties and committees.
Nearly two-thirds of that money has been pocketed by the Democrats seeking the White House. The industry's favorite, the report finds, is Barack Obama, who has raked in nearly $1.5 million in the campaign's first six months, followed by Hillary Clinton with almost $940,000.
