Clinton Dealt a Bummer on Woodstock Museum
Busted!
Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton and her Senate colleague Chuck Schumer thought they had safely placed a $1 million earmark for an upstate New York Woodstock Museum in a health and education appropriations bill-- but then the GOP pork patrol caught wind of it, and now the party's over.
Democrats today failed on a 42-52 vote to stop an amendment by Sen. Tom Coburn (R-Okla.) to cut the funding. Coburn's effort is now almost certain to succeed. Three of the six senators who missed the vote: Clinton's Senate Democratic rivals, Barack Obama (Ill.), Joe Biden (Del.) and Chris Dodd (Conn.).
Almost as a taunt to Clinton, who is heavily courting female voters, Coburn proposed shifting the money to"additional care for pregnant women, mothers, and infants." The Democrat is spotlighting women's issues on the campaign trail this week, including proposing new legislation to establish a paid family leave program.
Sen. John McCain (R-Ariz.), an avid pork foe, calledthe Woodstock earmark "a shining example of what's wrong with Washington on pork-barrel, out-of-control spending."
The museum, located in Bethel, New York on the site of the 1969 music festival, is the brainchild of billionaire Alan Gerry, a Republican who has donated heavily to both Clinton and to Senate Democratic coffers, which Schumer oversees.
In a press release in June, after the Senate Appropriations Committee approved the bill, Clinton said the funding would help the Bethel Woods Center for the Arts, as the museum is officially known, to "continue to promote education, the arts, culture and tourism in the region."
The Clinton release never referred to "Woodstock," but described the facility's focus as "the post-WWII period and cultural, political, social, and significant historic events during this period including, in particular, the period of the 1960's and its continuing legacy."

The thought of Woodstock should engender a rememberance of a young generation that opened the senses of America to civil rights, women's rights, human rights, environmental consciousness........and they embraced the theory of evolution... and that is why nearly every Republican senator voted against a mere million for this project. Some of us were listening to Richie Havens sing "Freedom" but the others choose to become Neidermeyers. It wasn't all about sex, drugs and rock n' roll...it was about young enlightened freethinkers questioning mindless authority and freedom-hating ideologues."Beware of the man who has read one book".....they vote Republican.

You nailed it. Go to her website and try to post anything even SLIGHTLY negative about her positions on the issues or questioning her policies. It will be DELETED within a few minutes by one of her minions.
Dissent is NOT TOLERATED by the NEW Clinton machine. This is not a continuation of the Bill Clinton legacy, but something new and frightening.

Aren't senators supposed to represent the interests of the communities they are elected from? I doubt the people in that New York community sees the museum funding as "pork". And if I were a Republican I would be careful about crying pork too loudly...remember how they all couldn't wait to vote for the "bridge to no where"? It seems to me that this got'cha kind of politics means they also will have projects for their home states that their voters would have appreciated deleted from legislation, whether deserved or not. These are the same politicians who are so concerned about what is "right" that they vote down legislation to help children.

HALF Polled by Zogby say they would NEVER vote for...
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Zogby Poll: Half Say They Would Never Vote for Hillary Clinton for President
Other top tier candidates in both parties win more acceptance; Richardson & Huckabee favored most
While she is winning wide support in nationwide samples among Democrats in the race for their party's presidential nomination, half of likely voters nationwide said they would never vote for New York Sen. Hillary Clinton, a new Zogby Interactive poll shows.
The online survey of 9,718 likely voters nationwide showed that 50% said Clinton would never get their presidential vote. This is up from 46% who said they could never vote for Clinton in a Zogby International telephone survey conducted in early March. Older voters are most resistant to Clinton - 59% of those age 65 and older said they would never vote for the New York senator, but she is much more acceptable to younger voters: 42% of those age 18-29 said they would never vote for Clinton for President.

TTJD: You're right! Better get used to Hillary talking. You will have to listen to it for the next eight years. This year the Democratic nomination is the same as being elected President and she is far ahead where it counts most. In the big states that vote Febr. 5

Hillary directed Hsu to donate to politicians in early and key primary states - who had endorsed her - or did later...?
Too bad your own link doesn't say that. Nice try!

It's rather amusing to me over the media coverage that Hillary Clinton is receiving lately. Fox News can't get enough of her. Could the Republicans have found a single issue to actually agree on? I guess it's better than listening to their worthless leader preach about terror.

I wonder when WAPO will do an investigative report on the Hillary campaign receiving illegal campaign contributions from millionaire Chinese donors who live in China, through dishwashers in Chinatown.

I'm not really sure why we should pay attention to Shailagh Murray's writing. Based on her last post, it's obvious that she doesn't believe in journalism or the rule of law. So why should I read her insights here. In the free market of politcal writing (which is brought to us by the Internet), she comes up sorely lacking in both understanding of the political process and intelligence. I doubt she could make it as a blogger.

these neanderthal repugnicans are ignorant of the fact that what is now called "bethel woods" is still a site where history occurred...500,000 people gathered under the banner of peace, music and justice for 3 days to celebrate and listen to rock, blues, and jazz.....expanding on the term, "woodstock" which was the home of bob dylan...whose music along with the beatles impacted culture everywhere.
in essence, those senators didnt want the idea of woodstock nation to continue to take hold among the masses

Oh yeah.....we need a Woodstock museum. We all need to remember that crap. Too bad the guy who owned the property went to meet his maker...I'm sure he'd like to put his two cents in since those hairy, smelly, disoriented "flower people" trashed it to kingdom come and back.

It is so interesting to me that we get so outraged about wasting tax dollars and yet we don't say anything about spending millions of dollars a day on a war of choice. Yes, millions a day. I also find it interesting that people will lodge personal attacks against politicians and say they can't be trusted, but never really discuss the merits of the policies advanced by those politicians.
Have our politics become more about the personality of the person running for office and less about the policies they advance.
Sure, wasting money on a museum is not the best use of tax dollars. And sure, pork spending is out of control. The truth of the matter is that all politicians do it, whether it be Republicans or Democrats. Or have people forgotten about Katrina and the billions of dollars those companies "reconstructing" New Orleans, which contributed to Republicans and Democrats. Those companies are getting paid by our federal government and they are not delivering.
Instead of focusing on grammar of people who voice an opinion, discuss the merits of the opinion or the policy. Instead of attacking politicians simply because of their party affiliation, discuss their policies. Something tells me that people here could not tell me anything about the policies being advanced by the current candidates. But can probably tell me whether Obama wears a lapel pin or what Hillary's hair looked like.
Until we really analyze the policies advanced, we will continue to elect the George W's of the world and we can only blame ourselves for that.

"And, by the way, does anyone have any clue about which cities the "hippeys" tore up in the '60's? I can't remember any."
Only one, little Zap, N.D., population 250 or so, which was the site of a "Zap In" (also called the "Zip to Zap") in 1969. In truth, it was more a drunken spring break fling, but at the time it was seen as a counter-culture thing. The riot that tore up the town was put down by the North Dakota National Guard and it was the lead story on Cronkite the next day.

See, that is why she won't release all her pock barrel spending. She is not a politician that can be trusted
Posted by: gbuze007 | October 19, 2007 1:02 PM
admittedly, a "Woodstock" museum is something that I don't want to see my tax dollars wasted on at this point in time, but c'mon - there are thousands of Thimble Museums, Bridges to Nowhere and Old Mill Federal Parks and other such boondoogles that have snuck through the pork process. Why do waste our time jabbering about Hillary's park and not demanding that our representatives just cut this crap out?
And, by the way, does anyone have any clue about which cities the "hippeys" tore up in the '60's? I can't remember any.

This is just a waste of money, the money that was thrown away from this could have been put to so much better use.
Posted by: kiwircwb | October 19, 2007 12:04 PM
For the Hillary followers who believe she is on the cutting edge of the new politics, characterized by openess, integrity and credibility, all you need do islook behind the Woodstock funding and you will see that she is just another crass politician feeding at the federal trough.
It irks the hell out me as an 82 year-old Demo who still pays taxes to see my money possibility used for such nonesense. This is one of many reasons why I see Obama as the only refreshing prez candidate on our ticket.

Maybe alecsandertheg8 should have said: "goes without healthcare because they were denied it." Perhaps that would have made it clear for you zukermand. By the way, the person using offensive language here was you. Do you always talk to people in that manner? It hurts seeing Hillary pegged as the fraud she is, doesn't it? Better start getting used to it...

Hillary directed Hsu to donate to politicians in early and key primary states - who had endorsed her - or did later.
Some of these politicians are from the states that chose to violate DNC rules and change primary dates - setting up a domino effect. Earlier primaries help Hillary.
Hsu donated $50K to Iowa Sen. Harkin - $20K to CA Sen. Feinstein, $17K to Michigan Gov. Granholm....

Yes - what happened to the $40M that Roseman invested with Hsu?
And why did WaPo OMIT it from the article?
It seems to be a big factor in the Hsu scandal - which the media has basically buried by claming Hsu was a bad man and Hillary a "victim".
Is that because it involves so many powerful politicians? none of whom checked out Hsu.

"go without" vs. "denied".
You are talking about 2 different things.

Isn't this museum project also connected with Joel Rosenman, one of the original Woodstock organisers and the financier whose Source Financing Investors was stung by Norman Hsu to the tune of $40M?
