Romney's MBA Pitch Belittles Clinton

Candidate: Mitt Romney

Market: New Hampshire

The Script: Hillary Clinton wants to run the largest enterprise in the world. She hasn't run a corner store. She hasn't run a state. She hasn't run a city. She has never run anything. And the idea that she could learn to be president as an internship just doesn't make any sense.

I have spent my life running things. I've learned how to run a business. I've learned how to run a state. I ran the Olympics. In each case, I've brought change. And if there's ever been a time we needed change in Washington to bring strength to America, it's now.

Graphics: Experience Matters

Analysis: The Harvard MBA plays the management card in this ad that mocks the Republicans' favorite punching bag, Hillary Clinton. It has the feel of a general-election spot, which enables Romney to cast himself as the potential nominee rather than dealing with such GOP rivals as Rudy Giuliani.

Romney is right that Clinton has never run a state, city or business. But he implicitly denigrates her unique experience as first lady as well as her seven years as a senator. By using the word "internship," Romney slyly invokes the infamous intern of her husband's presidency, Monica Lewinsky.

Romney was a successful venture capitalist, was credited with rescuing the 2002 Olympics in Salt Lake City and had a mixed record of cooperating with Democrats as governor of Massachusetts. But this ad is a departure for him because he refrains from mentioning a single conservative position, instead casting himself as a non-ideological manager. Romney also attempts to seize the "change" mantle although he would be succeeding a Republican president whom he has largely refrained from criticizing.

The stench of corruption swirls from her pantskirts, following her everywhere

Simply having an MBA shouldn't qualify anyone to be President. What makes Mitt's MBA and Law degree meaningful is what he did after he left college, become one of the most highly regarded businessmen in North America, [search for Mitt and Jim Cramer on Youtube]. He then pulled the Olympics out of chaos and brought Massachusetts back to fiscal solvency. Hes no George Bush.

As a poster said above, our current President pretty much proves that MBA's should be disqualified from the Presidency, and Romney certainly shouldn't consider it a selling point.

In my opinion, Clinton is unelectable in the general election. But if voters are not paying attention and are voting for a third (however unconstitutional)term for Bill Clinton, perhaps she will win the presidency. God help us if she does.

Instead of 'turning the page' on political fights of the last 2 decades, we will have 4 to 8 more years of the Clinton/Bush-style presidency, where secrecy and lies are used to 'get over' on enemies in the other party.

Why go there when there are better candidates available? If you anoint Clinton, she will inevitably win the democratic nomination. If she wins the nomination it will be the single most important motivation for Republicans and Independents to vote against her.

How sad. Another 4 to 8 years of a Republican presidency where torture is ok, gitmo will be expanded, and bombing Iran will be a sure thing.

In my opinion, Romney is intellectually incapable of leadership of the U.S. Double the size of Gitmo? This is the most ignorant piece of Bush-style tyranny that the U.S. cannot afford in the 20st century where 'soft-power' is the only way to protect the citzens of the US from terrorism. The man to do this is Barack Obama.. see Andrew Sullivan's (a true conservative) piece in the Atlanic www.atlanticmonthly.com for the definition of a true leader.

For those posters who continually suggest that Her Royal Clinton is a socialist willing to bring socialized medicine to the US I can only say, I wish...I live in Iceland where medical care is forst class and free, where all kids are safe to play anywahere, where education is considered the most important investment that a society can make for the future and where the people are healthy, wealthy and well taken care of with no homeless and care for the mentally ill. It´s no paradise (no place is) but the mixed socialist-capitalist economies of the Scandinavian countries make the US embarrasingly poor in terms of "third world" style infant mortality rates, crime, incarceration, drug policies and on and on. No, HRC is no socialist and will be little more than the usual American empire apologist following a bad President and setting no agenda higher than her own ambition. Socialism? I wish!

As an American longing for the good times to be back (very good economy and a country secured) I certainly would vote for Hillary Clinton.

I wonder how one of the posters here could say that voting for Clinton is paving the road to hell, when we had prosperity and security intact during Bill Clinton's Presidency. I want those good olds days back!!!

I don't mind if Hill and Bill are a scheming couple (maybe in a good way) as long as the country is on the right track.

I love Mitt challenging Fox by using debate footage in the ad. Something Fox has explicitly "banned". Fox has had it out for Mitt for months, thinly veiling their disgust on Special Report with Brit Hume, and hammering him in debates in an overtly subversive fashion. I saw this dynamic emerge in an interview he had with Chris Wallace on Fox News Sunday after winning the Ames Straw Poll . Chris came after Romney hard but Mitt didn't balk, by the end he had Chris reeling and looking visibly deflated. Since that point they have been attempting to put Mitt in his place and let him know who is the king maker for the right. Go Mitt.

It's too bad that Sandy Berger can't steal 20 million documents and save Hillary the potential embarassment of being exposed for fraud and deceit.

She could easily clear up the record of her activities and level of input into the operations of the White House during her husband's administration.

Some people seem to believe that she is going to covertly subvert the constitution and turn the reigns of government back over to her husband, since she hasn't demonstrated any apparent ability as an executive. I would hope that people are not voting on the basis of her 'good intentions' since the road to hell are paved with those.

In Los Angeles we were ruled by the good intentions of the Democrat party for years and the place is still a chaotic mess, with a mayor that has been taking lessons from Bill Clinton on philandering and is on Hillary's roll of supporters and campaigners. She has issues with being able to answer a simple question and wants to deal with al-Qaida, but she doesn't want Tim Russert asking straight questions and picking on her! She has issues with obtaining campaign funds legitimately and her campaign is under federal investigation (dish washers donating $2300 dollars from their high salaries) and Norman Hsu going under cover and media radar in ways that Abramov could never get away with.

Albeit, everyone that votes for her deserves her!

Per grannyone1's comment, that Romney's "not well educated": what exactly constitutes being well educated in the mind of a liberal? If it's not a law degree and an MBA from Harvard, what is it? Oh, that's right, a BS from Wellesley College and an MRS degree!

Romney is egotistical, provincal and not well educated. Another repub, Georgie Boy, has an MBA, is egotistical and provincal and look where he got us!

Pretending to be liberals; minority controlled majority mainstream Media with their counter parts in Wall Street & Hollywood with their unprecedented feed is trying to brain wash American public with their choice of candidates without educating them about the massive financial problems. $9 trillion National Debt &$50 trillion in hidden; unfunded liabilities; mandatory social security & Medicare payments, government & military pensions, interest on debt. To make matters worse; falling dollar, 20 year high commodity prices, ever rising energy prices & worst credit markets. All of this has made us biggest debtor nation in the world because American public, our state & Federal governments are living beyond their means. On top of this America is at war in Iraq & Afghanistan to fight serious threats of terrorism at home & abroad. Still this Media is dictating; Americans must elect Democrat Hillary Clinton as Next US President.

Hillary Clinton, a person who lacks core convictions, morality, ethics, character and is not afraid at all to misrepresent or speak half truths or complete lies. Under conservative Hillary mask is ruthless, emotionless, characterless & dangerously over ambitious Prime Minister of India "Indra Gandhi" who took India towards caste war, poverty & state sponsored massive corruption in the name of socialism, which ultimately resulted in creating the biggest population of $800 million poor in India; out of which 300 million people are below poverty line making $2 a day that also include biggest army of 80 million child labor.

Of all candidates in the Presidential Race except one, "no one has ever run a corner store and has put a corner stone in their back yard. None of them understand Economy, real cause of economic down turn, international trade & crafty debt derivatives. It is Mitt Romney who is a successful business Leader, insider of US & Int'l financial markets, fairly successful Governor/Political Leader, successful husband & father & a religious person; who understand it to fairly large extent.

Media is scared to discuss Romney's all round fair achievements as compared to others in the field. Rather than discussing real Leader with a proven track record of hard work, experience & character, under Semitism they are trashing him 24/7 day & night for being a Mormon. As if elected he will force every one to convert to Mormon. This is the same Media who never raised any objections when a Mormon Democrat Harry Reid became Senate Majority Leader.

If British can twice elect Jew Prime Minister Disraeli in 19th century, why we are discussing especially CNN; the Religion, Race and Gender in 21st century? Are we backward or a Racist society? We will not be the first nation in the world; if a Woman or American African or Mormon becomes President. Why not a Mormon with fairly good character and understanding of economy & domestic problems as President of America?

Mitt Romney is the MOST qualified candidate for president in ages. He HAS actually turned around million dollar businesses, saved the Olympics and balanced the budget of a liberal state without raising taxes. He understands what businessmen go through, and knows how to run a government. He offers enthusiasm, intelligence and experience.
WHAT has Hillary ACCOMPLISHED? What piece of imporant legislation has she passed? WHAT HAS SHE DONE SUCCESSFULLY OTHER THAN BEING BILL'S LOYAL WIFE?
Hillary is trying to take us back to the appeasement days of the 90's that brought us 9/11. Better to stay on the offensive then wait for them to attack us again.
Also, Hillary would tax us to death and lead us down the path towards a 3rd world healthcare system and socialism. Look around people -- it's not working out too well where they've tried it!
Mitt Romney for positive change in Washington, D.C. Let's try excellence, experience and efficiency for a change. We need a TRUE outsider to shake up the bloated and useless government and make it work FOR THE PEOPLE -- not the other way around.

This is the best ad of the campaign so far.

Posted by: delvinator84 | November 2, 2007 2:48 PM

So he has an MBA. Big whoop. Bush had a degree too. Look where America is. None of the other nations trust us.

Posted by: mkelly | November 2, 2007 2:02 PM

A bit presumptuous of this flip-flopping phony, I'd say.

Posted by: Spectator2 | November 2, 2007 1:13 PM

blah blah blah. Ok he is good, he has the track record, but still not comparable to Hillary's. There is the perception that the Clintons operated the Presidency as co-presidents. I don't mind this because it was good for the country (the economy and the security-by not going to war)

So Hillary, obviously the closest adviser of then President Clinton has all what it takes to lead this country. Notwithstanding their faults (what politician doesn't have anyway?)it could not be denied that this country was in its peak economically and had the respect of the world during their tenure. How can I entrust this country in these dangerous times to somebody else who has yet to prove themselves.
