Only One Bush on Romney's List of Heroes
By Juliet Eilperin
SOUTHFIELD, Mich. -- When former Massachusetts governor Mitt Romney paid tribute to his presidential heroes during his victory speech last night, he left out one prominent Republican: President Bush.
For weeks, Romney had been telling the campaign that he draws his inspiration from the GOP icon Ronald Reagan. Last night, in Michigan, he told a crowd of supporters, "I take my inspiration from Ronald Reagan and George Herbert Walker Bush." Moments later, he repeated the two men's names.
But at no point did he mention the nation's current president, George W. Bush.
Romney spokesman Kevin Madden cautioned The Trail from reading too much into his boss's omission. "He didn't mention Hoover either," Madden said.
No word on what President Bush might think of being lumped into the same category as the man who presided over the start of the Great Depression.
