The Pollster

The Impact of Wright

By Jennifer Agiesta
Public polling has revealed several potentially troubling trends for Barack Obama's campaign over the past few days, from the evaporation of his lead over Hillary Clinton in Gallup's daily tracking poll to a resurgent Clinton outperforming Obama against John McCain in the Associated Press-Ipsos poll, but perhaps none more so than what Newsweek's poll found among the Senator's own partisans.

The poll found the starkest evidence yet that Sen. Barack Obama's run for the presidency has been negatively impacted by the controversy surrounding his outspoken former pastor, Rev. Jeremiah Wright, who in recent days made his first public appearances since news of his fiery sermons broke last month.

More than three in 10 Democrats reported feeling less favorable toward Obama as a result of what they had heard about Wright, double the percentage who said so in a CBS News poll in March.

And the Newsweek poll found Wright is not the only drag on Obama's popularity among Democrats. Three in 10 view Obama less favorably as a result of his own comments about "bitter" small-town residents clinging to guns and religion, and nearly a quarter report being turned off by Obama's answers to questions about why he chooses not to wear an American flag lapel-pin.

On the plus side for the Illinois senator, 41 percent of Democrats said they felt more favorable as a result of the speech Obama gave on race in America in the wake of the uproar over Wright's sermons.

I'd just like to say again that you all should actually READ the speech that started this controversy. It's not pretty, sure, but he's not telling God to damn all Americans, despite what that one out-of-context line says. And even if he was being hateful, why are you all acting like people never change? It's not as if we know for a fact Wright was always as anti-American as you all claim he was.

jacksmith,

wow! so much to respond to, so little time.

"It's time for everyone to face the truth. Barack Obama has no real chance of winning the national election in November at this time. His crushing defeat in Pennsylvania makes that fact crystal clear. His best, and only real chance of winning in November is on a ticket with Hillary Clinton as her VP."

This is completely unfounded considering that Obama has for a long time polled better vs McCain than Hillary: http://www.pollster.com/08-US-Pres-GE-MvO.php . Sure she's had a recent surge, but your comments are unfounded considering polls. Surely, as a rational person you must have some basis for your assertions based on reality?

"But I think Mr. Obama faces a test of whether he has what it takes to be a commander and chief by facing the difficult facts, and the truth before him. And by doing what is best for the American people by dropping out of the race, and offering his whole hearted assistance to Hillary Clinton to help her take back the Whitehouse for the American people, and the World."

She failed an actual commander in chief test when she voted to authorize this needless war that is killing and maiming thousands. He is facing the difficult facts and truth before him, in terms of the corruption that takes place when campaigns are principally paid for in amounts over $2300. Thankfully, Obama saw that Hillary's so unpopular and so willing to lie just to seem more experienced than she actually is that he is giving Democrats a chance to win in November where Clinton would probably lose.

Please help me understand what Obama has said that is anywhere near as damning as her lies about her "experience".

jacksmith,

Let's put the mights to the test; let's debate.

You site Bill Clinton's experience throughout your comment. You must then logically agree that a president is wise to call on the counsil of the brightest minds in the nation. You should well know then that many of the people who contributed to the success you mentioned above are now part of the Obama team. I'm sure your powers of reason make this point obvious so no further discussion on it will be necessary.

What is then left is Hillary's specific experience against Obama's. This is where the argument of specifics get's interesting. Let's start where Hillary is assumed to be stronger: health care.

I will begin by freely expressing gratitude for her efforts under the Clinton administration. However, Obama is not without experience and success on this count in the state of Illinois. What specific experience does she have that makes her overwhelmingly superior as the standard bearer for this cause?

I'm happy to present for everyone's consideration Obama's experience on many important points:

http://www.obamapedia.org/page/Does+Barack+Obama+have+enough+experience+to+be+president%3F?t=anon

Where specifically does Hillary's actual experience make Obama's irrelevant?

DEBATE! DEBATE!! DEBATE!!!

It's time for everyone to face the truth. Barack Obama has no real chance of winning the national election in November at this time. His crushing defeat in Pennsylvania makes that fact crystal clear. His best, and only real chance of winning in November is on a ticket with Hillary Clinton as her VP.

Hillary Clinton seemed almost somber at her Pennsylvania victory speech. As if part of her was hoping Obama could have proved he had some chance of winning against the republican attack machine, and their unlimited money, and resources.

But it is absolutely essential that the democrats take back the Whitehouse in November. America, and the American people are in a very desperate condition now. And the whole World has been doing all that they can to help keep us propped up.

Hillary Clinton say's that the heat, and decisions in the Whitehouse are much tougher than the ones on the campaign trail. But I think Mr. Obama faces a test of whether he has what it takes to be a commander and chief by facing the difficult facts, and the truth before him. And by doing what is best for the American people by dropping out of the race, and offering his whole hearted assistance to Hillary Clinton to help her take back the Whitehouse for the American people, and the World.

Mr. Obama is a great speaker. And I am confident he can explain to the American people the need, and wisdom of such a personal sacrifice for them. It should be clear to everyone by now that Hillary Clinton is fighting her heart out for the American people. She has known for a long time that Mr. Obama can not win this November. You have to remember that the Clinton's have won the Whitehouse twice before. They know what it takes.

If Mr. Obama fails his test of commander and chief we can only hope that Hillary Clinton can continue her heroic fight for the American people. And that she prevails. She will need all the continual support and help we can give her. She may fight like a superhuman. But she is only human.

Sen. Hillary Clinton: "You know, more people have now voted for me than have voted for my opponent. In fact, I now have more votes than anybody has ever had in a primary contest for a nomination. And it's also clear that we've got nine more important contests to go."

Sincerely

MY FELLOW "BITTER", STUPID, WORKING CLASS PEOPLE :-)

If you think like Barack Obama, that WORKING CLASS PEOPLE are just a bunch of "BITTER"!, STUPID, PEASANTS, Cash COWS!, and CANNON FODDER. :-(

You Might Be An Idiot! :-)

If you think Barack Obama with little or no experience would be better than Hillary Clinton with 35 years experience.

You Might Be An Idiot! :-)

If you think that Obama with no experience can fix an economy on the verge of collapse better than Hillary Clinton. Whose ;-) husband (Bill Clinton) led the greatest economic expansion, and prosperity in American history.

You Might Be An Idiot! :-)

If you think that Obama with no experience fighting for universal health care can get it for you better than Hillary Clinton. Who anticipated this current health care crisis back in 1993, and fought a pitched battle against overwhelming odds to get universal health care for all the American people.

You Might Be An Idiot! :-)

If you think that Obama with no experience can manage, and get us out of two wars better than Hillary Clinton. Whose ;-) husband (Bill Clinton) went to war only when he was convinced that he absolutely had to. Then completed the mission in record time against a nuclear power. AND DID NOT LOSE THE LIFE OF A SINGLE AMERICAN SOLDIER. NOT ONE!

You Might Be An Idiot! :-)

If you think that Obama with no experience saving the environment is better than Hillary Clinton. Whose ;-) husband (Bill Clinton) left office with the greatest amount of environmental cleanup, and protections in American history.

You Might Be An Idiot! :-)

If you think that Obama with little or no education experience is better than Hillary Clinton. Whose ;-) husband (Bill Clinton) made higher education affordable for every American. And created higher job demand and starting salary's than they had ever been before or since.

You Might Be An Idiot! :-)

If you think that Obama with no experience will be better than Hillary Clinton who spent 8 years at the right hand of President Bill Clinton. Who is already on record as one of the greatest Presidents in American history.

You Might Be An Idiot! :-)

If you think that you can change the way Washington works with pretty speeches from Obama, rather than with the experience, and political expertise of two master politicians ON YOUR SIDE like Hillary and Bill Clinton..

You Might Be An Idiot! :-)

If you think all those Republicans voting for Obama in the Democratic primaries, and caucuses are doing so because they think he is a stronger Democratic candidate than Hillary Clinton. :-)

Best regards

jacksmith... Working Class :-)

p.s. You Might Be An Idiot! :-)

If you don't know that the huge amounts of money funding the Obama campaign to try and defeat Hillary Clinton is coming in from the insurance, and medical industry, that has been ripping you off, and killing you and your children. And denying you, and your loved ones the life saving medical care you needed. All just so they can make more huge immoral profits for them-selves off of your suffering...

You see, back in 1993 Hillary Clinton had the audacity, and nerve to try and get quality, affordable universal health care for everyone to prevent the suffering and needless deaths of hundreds of thousands of you each year. :-)

Approx. 100,000 of you die each year from medical accidents from a rush to profit by the insurance, and medical industry. Another 120,000 of you die each year from treatable illness that people in other developed countries don't die from. And I could go on, and on...

DeminFla,

You seem to be very excited about this Wright controversy. As Americans we believe in the principal of innocent until proven guilty. Democrats pride themselves in being open minded rational people who love the constitution.

Let's give you the benefit of the doubt and assume that you are actually interested in raising awareness of a potential danger that everyone else has missed about Obama's character. Let's assume for the sake of being generous to you that Rev Wright's comments are reason enough (though I don't think they are) to more closely examine Obama for Black Supremacist aspirations. What has Obama done unrelated to his church that substantiates that position? Does the list of close associations he has had throughout his life substantiate the position that he is a Black Supremacist? What about everything that he has done for people who are not African-American, does that also support these claims?

If you cannot answer these questions, then the question is, why do you still need to focus on this unsubstantiated notion of his racism? If you cannot supply evidence of his guilt then your own adherance to the principal of innocent until proven guilty is cast into doubt. There are all sorts of things that people suspect about Hillary, but I wouldn't allow things to be said against an American Senator that are unsubstantiated.

Watching this is like going back to the Middle Ages! Obama should get out of this predicament by becoming a corporate attorney and forgetting about a people whose mindset is out of sync with the 21 century. The masses need a simpleton like McCain to replace a simpleton like Bush.

Does it matter that Barack Obama finally dounces his irreverent Pastor? The issue is Barack Obama's Character. Barack Obama's muslim, marxist/socialist friends and back ground. His mother was secular humanist (atheist). Both his father and his step father were muslims. Obama was raised in rich mulsim Madrassa. This is not about his color. It's about his character and his infulences. Now he finally denounces wright, after 23 years?

Let's not forget Barack Hussien Obama affiliation with Rezko that the "Timesonline" "DailyTelegraph" were the first to expose this. Then is double talk with Canada. Lets not his songs to Mexico. Trying to give illegal aliens the Dream Act in California.

What is this? 'I whine my way into the White House?' If you do not want to vote for Barack Obama, then you are a racist.? I'm a black woman. I don't want vote for Barack Hussein Obama because of stand on abortion, homosexuality, illegal immigration, open bborders, and his rest of his liberal views.

In his much praised, but mediocre speech, he made excuses and blamed America for Rev Wright racist statemeants. He said "white men were angry with illegal immigrants because they feared immigrants (illegal aliens) were here to take their jobs and looked different from them." Exatly what color is llegal alien anyway? He did it again when he said "midwesterners were bitter and cling on to God and guns, and were against trade." Yet he has consistently mocked for of Bush and Clinton for NAFTA. The same retoric he used, all the while he was making deals with the Priminster (Harper) of Canada. and singing Mexican solidarity songs.

So this "denoucing" Barack Obama is doing is Poliical. Now he will finally (not that I care) do this to save his very faulty campaigne. I don't want to vote for him. Because of his character. So we are supposed to be stupid now? And just vote for Obama now that he finally (SO WHAT!!!) denounces his racist pastor of 23 years. give a award. Give him the White House.

I hope people will see this next move. It's phony. It's caculated. Now, Obama is not at fault at all? Yes he is. It's a farce. Don't let Obama off the hook. No we do not all know eachother. We do not all support evil together...............

People,

Calm down. Relax. Unless Obama starts speaking like Reverend Wright or publicly embrace what Wright said, nothing is going to change. Obama is still the one with a lead of over 150 pledge delegates, and Clinton is still the one with a personal unfavorable rating of 54 percent. The remaining primaries won't change the delegate math much, and it will take an act of God to change the public's perception of Ms. Clinton. Obama and Clinton supporters, stop bashing each other here and in other forums. It serves no purpose, except to make the supporters of both candidates bitter and angry. Bitter and angry Democrats tend to do stupid things, like voting for Republicans.

Posted by: anthony | April 29, 2008 10:05 PM

It's all politics. Obama's supporters will stay with him. You can spin and spin the Wright issue all you want, but that's about all his critics have against him. American voters are smarter then what the media think they are. He will be the Democratic nominee and president in 2009. End of story.

Posted by: mama | April 29, 2008 9:46 PM

Edwin. It isn't silly to assume when Obama spent 20 years as a member of Wright's church, giving it money, spending lots of time with this man, quoting him and praising him. Obama had NO problem with Wright until America did. He saw nothing wrong with this church's hateful, anti-american teachings. This wasn't a passing relationship. This is and has been one of the deepest relatinships of Obama's life--as he admitted before the controversy erupted. He chose Wright and stuck by him until today. So you Obama supporters need to stop making excuses by saying we can't attribute Wright's words to Obama. Yes. We. Can.

Hillary '08

Posted by: DeminFla | April 29, 2008 9:35 PM

Obama is weak--completely lacking in character. The Wright controversy only proves it further. THAT's what the GOP sees in Clinton. At least she isn't a pansy like Obama.

Posted by: DeminFla | April 29, 2008 9:31 PM

It is silly to assume that every belief of any of a Presidential Candidate's associates reflects their own. I can appreciate taking it into account, but this should be balanced by the weight of all the other associations and, more importantly, the candidate's own history on the issue. There are ways in which the candidates have more clearly shown us what kind of President they would make. The war is the most important of these, because it shows you the kind of decisions the person would make if they were in the hotseat.

The problem with McCain and Clinton is that their votes in support of war authorization are inexcusable considering the information available. The Cato Institute (most of them voted for Bush) published an excellent and widely available analysis that was prescient, but was ignored by both of these candidates: "Why the United States Should Not Attack Iraq". Despite a decades long history of fighting for civil liberties, despite undergoing one of the most rigorous educations on our law, and despite the fact that he is the product of an interracial union, it is amazing how desperately so many need to believe that Obama is a black supremacist.

When I'm out getting the vote here in North Carolina all I have to do is point out how ridiculous you are and more and more people give money and activate. The world is burning and you spend your time worrying about the comments of a man's pastor as if they were his? We've been able to inspire hundreds of thousands of ordinary Americans to give more of their hard earned cash and get involved than other candidates, because people are so sick of this BS. Please keep it up; you are feeding their outrage. The movement against your "politics" that is just getting started and it will change things.

The truth is, the Clintons were responsible for NAFTA, and while Hill can say "I was secretly against it back then," the reality is, it was the signature of the Clinton years. And it was her own campaign head, Harold Ickes, who as part of the DNC rules committee, stripped FL and MI of their seats. She agreed with him until she started losing, and she's trying to spin the fact that she wouldn't allow people who had voted GOP in the first MI vote to vote Dem in the revote as promoting a legitimate revote, when it's not b/c a lot of people knowing the original wouldn't count had switched over. And when people talk baggage, it's funny- Bill was almost impeached, Hill is being arraigned in a few months (not someone she knows but she herself)in the Paul v Clinton case, objects were stolen by the Clintons from the White House when they left, documents went missing, Hill obtained a criminal pardon for her brother's criminal friends, Vince Foster was murdered, Monica, Jennifer- the list goes on. It's just that Obama wanted to keep it clean so he didn't mention any of these, but the reality is nobody has more baggage and shadiness than the Clintons. The Clintons had even bombed Iraq, if anybody cares to remember. It was not a rainbow and unicorns peaceful time. Even Hill's claim to be active in the administration was proven false by the records; she started out strong, but when her health care efforts failed, she became another tea and tourist first lady. People even forget her outrageous lies and her constant smearing with the absurd excuse of preparing Obama for Republicans, as if that were her job. A former governor's wife and then the president's wife, Hill has 100 million dollars in her pocket and grew up well-off, to become a member of the head board of anti-Union Walmart- yet she pretends now to have any semblance of connection to grassroots America. From moving to NY, a state she never lived in, to take advantage of an easy election that would put a big state in her hand come 08, to her episodes of tears, to her whining about speaking first in debates and her willingness to put McCain above Obama, Hill has shown that she has been planning a long time for the throne that was her birthright. The only reason that the 90s was prosperous was because there was a computer, internet and technology boom which is now over. Even the concept of a president's wife now becoming president is inherently ridiculous- it smacks of royalty. Now, her campaign, badly managed, is in debt, and she's had to fire 3 top campaign strategists. She didn't even bother to read the Iraq intelligence reports when she voted to send our boys to war. There is simply, absolutely nothing that would make her qualified.

>Thank you Hillary Clinton for being a >great Presidential Candidate!!

What was greatest? Changing her message multiple times? Squandering every possible advantage one could have when starting (president husband, Sen. from big Dem state, massive funds, all endorsements, superdelegate support, etc.)? Or maybe it was manging the press? Perhaps it was denegrating all the caucus states?

>You are right on with your plan for >Universal Healthcare, you are right on

I have a bridge to sell you. If Hillary cared about healthcare she'd not have given up in 93. She'd have pushed the issue as a Senator. She's vote pandering without being realistic about the compromises necessary for true reform; she didn't learn from '93.

>with your plans for education, you are >right on for supporting working class >America!!

Supporting working class America? Like when she sat on Wal-mart's Board as a Director and said nothing, nary objected, when Wal-mart officers repeatedly denounced Unions and their efforts. She sat in the audience while Wal-mart VP railed about Unions being blood-sucking vampires. Yep, Hillary is really for workers.

>You are not a flip-flopper, or a

Right, like being for the War now opposing it.Being FOR NAFTA as first lady, and now being against it.

>windsock, you don't try to fool us all by >switching to what everyone wants to hear. >You are the genuine article.

Genuine sniper dodging.

>In a time when a man named Obama is >trying to pull off the biggest Schmoozing >of America in recent history, you are >rock solid in your character and your >commitment to the American people.

Character? Like sabotaging the Democratic party. Like playing the race card? Like saying McCain was more qualified than Obama to be president? Like saying Obama was not qualified to be president but was OK to be her VP? I suppose some prefer that type of character.

>Hillary, no skeletons of 20+ years of

No Skeletons! Are you mad? The skeletons are too many to list. Obama has played like a gentleman. Hillary has played like a crying complaining kneecapper. If Obama had gone negative, if he'd brought up Whitewater, Monica, impeachment, losing the House and Senate to Republicans, and all the tarnish of the Clinton years (under the guise of "the Republicans will surely raise these issues" as Hillary has said), then she'd have NEVER made it this far.

>hate and racism are jumping out of your >closet to claw America in the face. No

So working for a communist black-panther defending law form doesn't count? Having Rev. Wright to the Whitehouse to help with Bill's ordeal doesn't count? Pardoning Weathermen doesn't count? Renting out the LINCOLN ROOM (our most beloved president) for political donations doesn't count?

You crass hypocrite.

>parlor jokes of demoting our American >flag come from you.

Hillary WEARS NO FLAG PIN.

>Thank you Hillary for all your surprises >are joyous ones, not ones that make a >person think "wow I didn't know you >supported that extremist person".

Nah, she just supports lobbyists running her campaign and lobbying against her positions right from her campaign bus.

Guess you don't know about her right-wing prayer circle with Dick Cheney. Hillary is more of the same DC politics. Selling out the lives of 4000 working class boys in Iraq so she could run as a "tough" candidate.

>After months of standing your ground in >the face of formidable odds, you have

And worsening. 10% chance of winning and going down with each superdelegate that breaks the other way.

>proven that you have got what it takes.

I.e., will say or do whatever it takes to satisfy the quench for power.

>No other presidential candidate has had >the stuff shoveled on them like you have,

Cuz no one else has played so much in the stables.

>and you made it through to the other >side. You have shined through as the most >tested Presidential candidate of the

most tested? Obama NEVER took the gloves off, because he's a decent nice person, like the midwesterners who voted for him. The Right wants so badly for her to win the nomination. That's why they're "on her side". I assure you, they will *definitely* take the gloves off, and when they're done, Hillary's national 60% negativity and distrust rating (twice McCain's and Obama's) will only get worse.

>whole entire contest.

>Thank you Hillary for allowing us to >continue to have our individual GOD BLESS >America. We are a nation with problems,

Peas in a pod. Yes, this the "character" you refer to. Wright came to Bill's side, Bill is at Hillary's side. Wright is at Hillary's side, just like those bought pardons, Lincoln Room vacancy signs, pilfered Whitehouse goods and Bosnia SNIPERS will always be at her side.

>but at the end of the day, Americans are >full of heart, and at the end of the day, >I know you'll be right there fighting for >us.

Fighting is what has given is deadlock in Washington. Fighting will not win healthcare; comprimise and consensus building will.

It is one of Hillary's supporters and surrogate Barbara Reynolds who organized the press club event for rev.Wright this week. Hillry won't stop at anything. She will be happy only after tearing Obama apart and shreading him to pieces. She does not care for the party or the type of damage she is doing to race relations in this country. It is all me, me, me for her.

Just hang in there and support the one that wins the Democratic and help get those nasty Repubicans out of power. No we will not get this country back into the hands of the people in just four years but it will be a start. Face it , the only thing that will get this country back on track is a great depression like we had back in the 1930 s , I was there. We are headed for one right now if we stay the course.

Alas, Ms. Clinton, it's out of reach. You had so close .... it was in your fingers, but you foresook all of folks with undemocratic don't-count-them caucuses. You presumed the nomination was a crown to be ordained with, rather than a privelege to be earned by making your case to ALL Americans. You chose division and attack when behind. The polls may fluctuate, but the hard delegate numbers won't change.

Keep watching as Obama rolls out a new superdelegate from now until June.

Hillary could win every remaining state by 60%, and take 55% of the remaining superdelegates, and still lose. Give Obama just a 10% margin in OR and NC and he needs only 1/3 of the remaining superdelegates to get over the top. That's just 115 superdelegates. He's got half that in pocket and going public with as needed.

Too little too late

After months of standing your ground in the face of formidable odds, you have proven that you have got what it takes. No other presidential candidate has had the stuff shoveled on them like you have, and you made it through to the other side. You have shined through as the most tested Presidential candidate of the whole entire contest.

Thank you Hillary for allowing us to continue to have our individual GOD BLESS America. We are a nation with problems, but at the end of the day, Americans are full of heart, and at the end of the day, I know you'll be right there fighting for us.

OBAMA SHOULD HAVE BEEN OUTRAGED ABOUT THAT SLIME B******D 20 YEARS AGO. HE IS NOT OUTRAGED BY WRIGHT'S OPINIONS BUT THAT IT FINALLY CAME TO LIGHT. OBAMA TRIED TO HIDE THESE FACTS, WHICH HE BS'S THE PEOPLE SAYING HE IS ANGRY. OBAMA THINKS AND FEELS THE SAME WAY AS HIS PASTOR AND TEACHER. OBAMA SAT FOR 20 YEARS LISTENING AND LEARNING AND ABSORBING INTO HIS VERY BEING THAT HE WOULD PUNISH AMERICA. OBAMA LIED ABOUT WRIGHT'S UPBRINGING DESCRIBING THIS PASTOR WAS POOR AND DEPRIVED . NOTHING COULD BE FARTHER FROM THE TRUTH. WRITE'S FATHER WAS A WELL PAID PREACHER, HIS MOTHER WAS A PROFFESIONAL IN THE SCHOOL SYSTEM. THEY LIVE IN A FINE HOUSE AND WRIGHT WAS WELL EDUCATED. THE MAN IS A SCREWBALL AND IS OBAMA'S BEST FRIEND! LET OBAMA TRY TO WIGGLE HIS TAIL OUT OF THAT.

OBAMA SHOULD NOT BE ALLOWED TO RUN FOR PRES. OF THIS COUNTRY, IF HE CAN OUT AND OUT LIE ABOUT HIS TEACHER AND PASTOR CAN ANYONE POSSIBLY IMAGINE HOW HE WOULD LIE TO THE PEOPLE AND THE WORLD! a vote for Obama is a vote for America's Enemy. VOTE FOR HILLARY AND KEEP AMERICA SAFE.

BY THE WAY THE NUT JOB THAT KEEPS SAYING HILLARY VOTED FOR THE WAR - SO DID THOUSANDS OF OTHERS BECAUSE WE WERE ALL HOOD WINKED BY THE MASTER OF THE HOOD WINKERS IN D.D. namely:DEAD EYE CHENEY, AND NAZI ROVE! GEORGIE JUST WAS TOLD WHAT TO SAY, AND HE SAID IT - FOR OIL MONEY. GREED AND BLOOD THIRSTY. REMEMBER SOME ONE IN D.C. ON EASTER SUNDAY WHEN THE COUNT OF OUR DEAD YOUTH WAS 4000"NOT MY BLOOD-NOT MY MONEY". QUITE A QUOTE AMERICA!!!!!!!!!!!!

War isn't the worst of things.

It was the Civil War that ended slavery.

I certainly agree the current war in Iraq was ill-advised, but it's pretty bad if our Party rules out war in all possible cases.

If Iran gets the bomb, we'll seriously need to consider war in order to protect Israel. Our party is in bad shape if we can't even discuss this intelligently.

Obama is so slick, but here the evidence he can not deny. On the TV program THE VIEW, Obama declared that Reverend Wright accepted that his view were inappropriate and mischaracterized. Then weeks later Wright goes on a national Hate America Press Tour? Just goes to prove how immature and green Obama is. And this is being generous. Watching this video one can only conclude Obama simply lied. Go ahead check it out yourselves: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=j6J7yJ9R5p0

Do not miss the back story on Wright's appearance at the Press Club!

Posted by: tovangar2 | April 29, 2008 6:21 PM

Senator Obama is an excellent speaker and charismatic. l However, it defies belief that he did not know what Reverend Wright has been espousing the last twenty years that Sen. Obama has been a member of Rev. Wright's church. Particularly since Obama referred to the Reverend his "mentor and spiritual advisor", at least up until Reverend Wright made headlines in Pennsylvania last month.

Reverend Wright seems to have said nothing new yesterday. He simply sought to defend what he believes and has been saying for years.

This whole episode shows a side of Senator Obama in a light that is very disturbing. I'm afraid of what we will learn next about Sen. Obama and what it could mean for the Democratic Party this fall.

Please all you Obama followers. Be civil. Hillary Clinton did not do this to Obama. It is a self inflicted wound. Man up and do not start to whine like the little girl who didn't get her way.He should of denounced him long ago when the media was still in love with him, he would of been in a better place today. He didn't, so live with the consequesnces. He knew him enough to make a decision back then, he didn't. Go ahead drink more of his cool-aid, you're going to need it as more and more comes out on him. You will not have Hillary to blame for all of this!

Posted by: ernesto | April 29, 2008 6:01 PM

If America caves into these idiot's who keep ranting and raving about Wright and Obama then Americans deserve to keep the status quo and keep on trucking with their great economy, their respect amongst the world, their fantastic job creation plan, and best of all, they get to keep fighting a war in Iraq and losing thousands more young lives over the next one hundred years.

Do you all think anything's going to change with Clinton or McCain ?

Wow! your economy is just going to take off and all will be right with the world.

Surely America can't be that stupid.

As far as I can tell, Rev. Wright and Sen. Obama each speak for themselves, not each other. Regarding Wright's estimation of 9/11 being chickens coming home to roost, I agree with him. I've been thinking that very thing since 9/11. I don't agree with everything Rev. Wright has been quoted as saying; but one should read the entirety of his statements in order to understand them properly. Also, we should remember that he has the same right to free speech as the rest of us...

It really does. Other than spam and racially-charged slurs. There is barely any human debate going on and instead there's savage misconceptions and racism of years past. "Obamaosama": Are you kidding me? It's one thing to not like a candidate, but you are going to far you low-life loser.

And the whole idea that Obama and his position on the issues is somewhat represented by some people who support his candidacy is just absurd. If you still have something against Obama because of Wright than you really have a convoluted image of what it means to be American.

Posted by: this forum sucks | April 29, 2008 5:50 PM

Twenty years, and he had no idea what his "mentor and spiritual adviser" was like. He is either extremely dense, or extremely dishonest. Either one is bad for this country.

Posted by: James | April 29, 2008 5:49 PM

James, while you most likely not heard that much of Wright's sermons, Obama has heard much more. Therefore, he has more authority to judge Wright.

Also, yeah, we get it, the neocons support Hillary. Cut it out.

Senator Obama's initial instinct was to lie when he was asked the Friday after the story of Wright first appeared. Then the following Tuesday he did the speech and admitted that he did know he had said some things....the story keeps on changing!! We will not win the presidency if Senator Obama is the nominee. TOO MANY RED FLAGS! What if he gets the nominee and Wright comes out with a book deal and tells everything he knows. What about Ayers? How much more???????????

Posted by: charlieb | April 29, 2008 5:44 PM

What I meant was that Wright's speech basically said that Americans shouldn't act patriotic because of how Bush reversed all the good Clinton did. I disagree with Wright, but he wasn't being anti-American. He does need to stop trying to help Obama, though. His message clashes greatly with Obama's.

Its too little too late for Obama. We all but begged him to come out and make statements re Wright, Farrakan, the flag pin, etc.

Super delegates, wake up. Its time to tell Obama that to save our party, he has to go. Our country is in such a mess now, we cannot afford to nominate such a controversial nominee as Obama.

This is the President of the United States we electing for God's sake (and us)!!

Super delegates, please take Obama out, I don't want to hurt him or his family, but for the good of America, PLEASE.

I wonder if most of you feel as strongly about the Catholic church and their pedophile priests being sheltered by the highest levels of that "organization" as you do about Sen. Obama and Rev. Wright. I don't see a huge group protesting that people should leave the Catholic church based upon their longstanding worldly betrayal to religion and humanity.

Posted by: Gracey | April 29, 2008 5:21 PM

I'm going to say this straight: Obama shouldn't be punished for this man's actions. From the very beginning, he has campaigned on the ability to bring people together to resolve issues from both and other sides of the divide. While it's sad to be reminded that there are some who want to keep us divided for whatever motivations, we shouldn't take those frustrations out on the ones who are trying to make things right.

Remember, this nation is in a recession, we are fighting a war in Iraq that should have never been waged and there are food shortages throughout the world, but somehow, we continue to be focused on irreverent issues such as this. It reminds me a political cartoon that came out shortly after Obama's "A More Perfect Union" speech. It depicted Obama saying "Time to put down your security blankets!" to white couple and a black couple holding blankets, ala Linus Van Pelt with the labels White Resentment and Black Anger on the blankets.

Sadly, that cartoon gave the more perfect assessment of race relations in America. We are simply being hijacked by the past and were being hoodwinked by the people who want to keep it that way. They want all of us to keep those "security blankets" of division and to suck our thumbs while we're at it! And we, the people, are all too glad to keep clutching those blankets.

All they have to do, is pretend to endorse you.... and you think we should vote for the other candidate.

It took Hillary's backing B.O. into a corner in a debate for him to take a stand on denouncing the evil Farrakan...

Obamosama doesn't see anything wrong with what Wright and Farrakan say since he hangs with these guys regularly. Ergo, until someone with a normal brain points out that these are not normal people - that what they say is hateful, he says "Gee I didn't realize that" and will "denounce, renounce or whatever". He is either colossally stupid or believes their bs. Either way he stinks to high heaven with his home bought by an Iraqi billionaire thru the Rezko sleaze middleman. Guess he didn't know that either huh? Like Jeremiah Wright said: Barack do what he has to do...

Wright coming out is a no winning situation for Obama. If it's true he never heard of Wright's anti American stands for 20 years one has to question Obama's awareness and judgment. .
