Elizabeth Edwards to Give Harvard Speech

By Krissah Williams
After sticking her toe into the water earlier this week with a blog item blasting John McCain's health-care plan , Elizabeth Edwards plans to jump back into public life next week with three days of public speaking and mingling at Harvard University's Institute of Politics.

The feisty spouse of former Democratic presidential candidate and senator John Edwards will meet with student groups to discuss poverty and health care, his campaign's signature issues, and give a broad public address on the topic of her choosing Wednesday night that can be streamed live from the university's website.

Edwards was extended the invitation months ago but in the past two weeks her office accepted and confirmed her schedule, said former Iowa congressman Jim Leach, director of the Institute of Politics.

"We developed a schedule for her up here, and we were afraid we were asking her to do too much, and the word from her office was that she wanted to do more," Leach said. "She welcomed the idea of meeting as many students as possible."

The event could turn out to be a family affair for Edwards. Her daughter Cate is attending law school at Harvard. Leach added that former senator John Edwards is also invited to attend.

"We'd be delighted if her husband came -- as her spouse," he said.

If you want to talk about a candidate of change, someone who had EVERY QUALITY to do something great as President, that would be JOHN EDWARDS. But it is true, there was a near MSM blackout on Edwards and his campaign platform-he is an arresting speaker-he has it all. Obama can't even carry his water, the comparison between the two in abilities, accomplishments and particularly experience -well, there is no comparison, Obama comes up a big fat ZERO in all those categories; the only reason he is being given such a free pass by the MSM is because he is black and was supported by Oprah early on-that is the ONLY REASON.

Jake:

John Edwards was the only candidate, this campaign cycle, to have a plan to end poverty. He led on this and every other issue but due to the MSM blackout of Edwards, many voters were unaware of this fact.

Good for Mrs. Edwards her comments and concearns regarding healthcare are much welcomed. As she points out if McCain's plan is adopted her condition and Mccain's would not be covered. They would be considered pre-existing conditions. Thank you for speaking out. I am also concearned we will not get universal healthcare if Obama is elected. Without requiring everyone to get insurance I don't forsee costs going down. Now, I am concearned Obama won't even try to get universal healthcare after seeing JOHN KERRY state on one of the morning shows sunday, that "UNIVERSAL HEALTHCARE IS A NON-ISSUE. With that attitude It's sure not to happen and makes me wonder How genuine Obama's motives are on universal health care.

Maybe while he is contemplating who to back, John Edwards will read the last two books written by the late Barbara Olson.
If he hasn`t decided by then, he should contemplate who received Presidential pardons as Clinton was leaving office, and the reasons behind these pardons.

Krissah Williams use of "feisty" is not only disrespectful, it's inappropriately editorial for a news item.

Elizabeth was named after her mother, Mary Elizabeth Anania. Her mother also used the name Elizabeth more than she did Mary. This made sense because Grandma Anania's mother also was named Mary, thus respectfully reserving Mary for Grandma Mary.

John Edwards will NEVER back that empty suit Obama, he's too intelligent, and cares too much about his country to back a fraud wannabe running on the race card only. Edwards understands, in a way Obama will, what it takes to run a country, Obama is utterly clueless.

Will "The Trail" give us rundowns on what Biden's, Dodd's, Romney's and Huckbee's wives are up to these days as well?

Responding to JakeD...A survey of North Carolinians done in fall 2004 showed that Edwards would have won reelection to the Senate. It was the top of the ticket and the idiotic consultants' strategy of not spending any advertising money in NC that kept the Blue team from winning in NC.

Why does Mary ELIZABETH Edwards need the "blessing" of her husband (also, I was unaware that she or Johnny were "silently" endorsing anyone)?

Posted by: JakeD | April 3, 2008 1:20 PM | Report abuse

Could we see Elizabeth endorse Obama even without the blessing of her husband? She hates Hillary, so why sit by with John and silently back her?

I thought that LBJ was the first Democratic candidate with a plan to end poverty? Or, was that Marie Antoinette?

John and Elizabeth Edwards led on the issues of poverty and Universal Health Care during his campaign.

John Edwards was the first to unveil a truly Universal Health Care plan, (which Hillary Clinton later essentially replicated)and was the only candidate with a plan to end poverty.

It's great to have their voices still out there, advocating for progressive causes.

Yeah, if only (the candidate who couldn't even carry his OWN home state ; )

Oh how I WISH JOHN EDWARDS WAS THE DEM. CANDIDATE FOR PRESIDENT! He could win in a landslide over McCain, and then, and then... he, of all the Dem. candidates had the gifts, the skills, the smarts, the experience, the smile, the ability to forge coalitions to push his poverty and health care platform forward-Oh, if only if only! TRULY, JOHN EDWARDS WAST THE ONE TRUE CANDIDATE FOR CHANGE WHO COULD HAVE MADE SUCH A POSITIVE DIFFERENCE IN THIS COUNTRY...if only!
