In Balmy Calif., Clinton Shows Her Softer Side

By Perry Bacon Jr.
BURBANK, Calif. -- Fernando Suarez asked Hillary Clinton about her upcoming North Dakota campaign stop, but the candidate wanted to know about something else first.

"Love this no socks look you've got going on," she told the CBS producer, who was wearing khakis and a green dress shirt but no socks. He and other reporters laughed.

"We're in California here," he responded.

"California," she agreed, before continuing to his question.

Suarez has followed Clinton's every move for the last seven months as one of the reporters "embedded" with her campaign, so Clinton knows him well, but he's not the only one seeing a more laid-back, jocular former first lady.

On April Fool's Day, a solemn sounding Clinton declared to reporters, anticipating some major announcement, that she was challenging Barack Obama to a bowling match.

"It was much longer before I edited it," she said of her gag. "There were some really good lines in there which if we're ever off the record again, I'll tell you. I wish Barb" -- Clinton's staff photographer -- "had been standing behind me with a camera to get everybody's faces. Chris Matthews looked totally like, 'You mean I might actually be in the presence of of real news?' It was fun."

On her campaign plane that night, she talked about how she favored shooting free-throws underhanded, owned a bowling ball and bowling shoes and had read the book "Bowling Alone," which argued the decline in bowling leagues showed that Americans were becoming increasingly disconnected from one another.

"Bowling alone is a sign of our times. We could bring it back," she declared. "We have bowling alleys on every corner. We could have a sense of community together. People setting pins again. End the automation. Get the pin boys back. No telling what could happen."

And while people who have worked in the White House say the president never really handles crises at 3 a.m, Clinton's ads to the contrary notwithstanding, she may be particularly prepared for such a crisis, if only because she seems like a person who doesn't sleep much.

Flying back to Washington about 1 a.m. a few nights ago, as reporters hoped Clinton would not come and interrupt their relaxation and attempts at slumber, there was the former first lady, fired up and ready to talk about the Rolling Stones and Mick Jagger.

"If you go to a Stones concert today -- and I have been -- it's just amazing," Clinton said. Jagger "has this incredible presence. He is very disciplined, he works out, and he's incredibly devoted to what he does."

Hillary Clinton is experienced alright...an experienced liar. However, all her experience at lying is for naught because the American people finally see Hillary for what she is. Incidentally, she is a pathetic jokster to boot. The morale of the story... when you get caught in repeated lies, just joke about it. She's a joke and a liar!

Wow! Obama's "messages" of hope and unity have turned into hatred and ugliness. It's like army ants encroaching on terrain and leaving it bare, then moving on.

Sometimes it reminds me of one of those old sci-fi movies where the gargantuan creatures step on, eat and maul every living thing in sight, move on mindlessly to the next living thing and do it again!

You Obama followers really DO need therapy.

I am so sick of hearing people say that Hillary Clinton is tearing the Democratic Party apart. I think that job has already been fulfilled by Obama. Only a self--absorbed person with a mammoth ego would declare his candidacy for the most important job on earth after serving only one year in the senate. He was also probably banking on the fact that many Americans would not take the time to do their homework and could be schmoozed by smooth talk and charisma. Those same qualities are the one's that have allowed crooked tele--evangelist to milk millions out of people's pockets and why so many people overpay for clunkers from a used car lot. Clinton was in the race first and if Obama really truly cared about the Democratic party and his country, he would have first, worked hard in the Senate to: first prove himself as an effective leader in the legislature and to the people of Illinois; second, he would have campaigned vigorously for Senator Clinton to take her historic candidacy all the way to the White House, and then a few years down the road, he could thrown his hat into the ring to become the first African American president. Right now, his impatience, selfishness, and ginormous ego will indeed cost the Democratic Party the claim to the first female president, followed by the first African American president.
PS
Is there anyone out there who can give five concrete and substantive reasons, based on his record, and without using the intangible words -inspiration or uniter, why Obama is qualified to be the leader of the free world?

One of the reasons HILLARY will ultimately lose was on display last night: SHE IS A LIAR!!! HILLARY has the affrontery to joke about her 'LIES' on national TV!!!
HILLARY on the JAY LENO 'TONIGHT' SHOW[APR-3-2008] 'joked' she was late arriving because she was "...under sniper fire"!!! Ha-Ha! HILLARY makes a joke of her "LIE'!!! WHAT'S NEXT??? HILLARY 'joking' about her ROSE LAW FIRM records found in the WHITE HOUSE RESIDENCE only after the 'statute of limitations' expired or JOHHNY CHUNG's bags-full of cash delivered to the WHITE HOUSE from the CHINESE MILITARY or D^CKHEAD's statement "I never had sex with that woman - Miss Lewinsky" or HILLARY's repeating over-and-over-and-over-again that she 'tried' to enlist in the military??? YES IT IS A JOKE HILLARY - THAT YOU THINK WE ARE STOOPID ENOUGH TO 'BELIEVE'/JOKE ABOUT ALL THESE LIES!!!

Regards Hillary and Bosnia Story - that doesn't bother me one bit. Ask me what I did 12 years ago and I am sure I will forget some of the details (everyone does) and maybe even be a bit flowery on some. We know the First Lady and Chelsea were making not just one stop but many - on their trip, maybe this trip was mistaken for the trip before last - you know the old saying "If it is Tuesday it must be Paris" - tourists say when going from country to country. So please people let this go - thank God none of you are running for President --- and as for Barack and his minister --- he has been going there for years and I am sure Wright's ranting and raving just didn't start yesterday and Barack had the time to pick another church - like maybe now!

It doesn't matter what is reported about Sen. Clinton. Most people's minds are closed on that issue.

The comments about her appearance (like that has some bearing on whether she would make a good president) and the terms 'anti-Clinton' people use to describe her are horrendous. Most people think she's either a 'congenital liar' and a 'thunder-thighed' monster; or they think she's a patriot who will work for the American people.

"quoting"
Well, much has been said downplaying Obama's early upbringing in the Muslim faith claiming instead that he is a Christian, belonging to the "Trinity United Church of Christ".
But---the Trinity United Church of Christ is not the Church of Christ with which most southern people and I suspect most white Americans are familiar.
After reading this article I Googled the Church website. Please do so yourself. You will or should be appalled. This is a racist Black Church every bit as fanatical in their goals as are radical Islamics. One is as bad as the other. White America needs to quit being ashamed of the sins of early America. America does not need to elect a person to it's highest office because of guilt feelings or because it thinks that it is "time" to elect a person based on race and or for that matter gender.

Michael Reisig is a local author of several books about the 'end of times'. You can find his books at:
www.michael-reisig.com or www.amazon.com.

He is also the editor of our paper The Polk County Pulse in Mena, Arkansas where he wrote this article. I have heard some of these things before about Obama but Michael put a different angle on it. A little long, but a good read.

This was in the paper on February 20, 2008...

President Obama. By Michael Reisig

Well, having observed the progress of the Democrat and Republican Primaries I would have to say at this point, America is probably close to electing Barak Hussein Obama as its next president. I understand the need for change - but for all my observation of Obama I have yet to hear any decisive, detailed plans - it all seems to be continual rhetoric on the concept of change. It's all rather a puzzlement to me, and more than anything I think this phenomena is representative of the new Survivor/ Oprah Winfrey/ American Idol consciousness (where the bizarre is applauded as reality and image is more important than substance), and it is undoubtedly brought about by the overwhelming dissatisfaction Americans have for a government that has cheated, lied and stolen from them for at least the last two generations. But for minorities, and in particular blacks, this election represents a moment of long-awaited validation. There is no question that the elec tion of an African-American president will empower the blacks of this country. Don't misunderstand me - this is not a racist statement, this is just a fact, and in many respects this could be a good thing. But there is no denying the sense of audacious rebellion that constantly simmers in much of the black community, particularly with the youth of the large metropolitan areas. I have some concern that the election of a black president will take us back to a consciousness that promotes the power of race over intelligence, reason, and the value of law, and that this may divide black and whites more than uniting them. I hope that I'm wrong. Obama speaks a lot about a uniting of black and white America, but the church he has attended for years would contradict that. Although you won't hear much of this on national television, one has but to go to Obama's church of choice, Trinity United Church of Christ (go to the website to! ! check f or yourself) to find, an d I quote,
"An unabashedly black congregation with a non-negotiable commitment to Africa.
"An African people, 'true to our native land, the mother continent, the cradle of civilization.
" Nowhere in the website is America even mentioned. Can you imagine if one of the other white candidates for president were a member of a church that declared itself "unashamedly white?" What would the media have done to them already? I was also startled by a number of the points in Trinity United Church's 10-Point Vision:
*A congregation with a Non-negotiable Commitment to Africa.
*A congregation committed to Cultural Education (Africa).
*A congregation committed to the Historical Education of African People in Diaspora.
*A congregation committed to Liberation.
*A congregation committed to Restoration. (Could this mean restitution?)

In addition, Trinity's senior pastor Dr. Jeremiah A. Wright, Jr., is considered by many to be a black racist, who, without question, preaches radical Afro-centric theology. It appears, by affiliation, that we have a man who wants to be president of America while much of his loyalty is invested in black Africa. But there is also a deeper, perhaps darker consequence in terms of America and its multi-national population when we consider Mr. Obama as our new leader. Investigations have shown that Obama's father and stepfather were devout Islamics. Both faithfully practiced their religion. His stepfather, who had a much greater impact on Obama's upbringing, was a radical Wahabbi Muslim. Obama's mother married Lolo Soetoro, a Wahabbi extremist who lived in Indonesia. When Obama's mother moved to Indonesia - before she married her second Muslim husband - she enrolled her son in Francis Assisis Catholic School. He was enrolled as a Muslim because he was a Muslim. Obama's campaign website has been hailed as a testament to the candidate's transformative politics. But at least part of the senator's online outreach, "Muslim Americans for Obama '08" proposes installing Muslim prayer areas in public places and giving Muslims time off for prayer, and has denounced Obama's colleagues in the U.S. Senate who happen to be Jewish. Further troubling are the issues and solutions on this site:
1. A Law against harassment of Muslim women wearing Hijab at the Airport, DMV and other public arenas.
2. Institute a Law to allow Muslim Employees to take an hour off from work for Friday Jummah Prayer.
3.& nbsp; Make the 2 Eid's (Muslim festivals), recognized National Holidays on Calendars with days off from work.
4. Optional Halal meals in federal buildi ng, public schools and colleges.
5. Provide prayer areas suitable for Salah and Jummah, in public and private facilities. (i.e. Malls, Airports, Universities and government buildings.)
6. Organize a Muslim American group to assist in recommendations for US foreign policy affecting majority Muslim Countries. I have to wonder how many encampments of Islamic extremists hidden in the hills of Afghanistan and quiet room of Baghdad and Tehran listen to the news of America's primary elections with unadulterated glee, considering first, that we may have a president who has virtually no experience in managing a government, or attending to military/ international affairs, and secondly; the chance (as remote as it is) of a quasi-Muslim president of the United States. Think of the possibilities.

I have sent this is almost everyone I know. If you agree with this, I hope you will do the same, or at least make sure you vote. It really scares me to think of Obama being president.

It doesn't really matter that Reverend Wright joined the Marines and was nurse to Johnson. What matters is that, when he grew up, he became racist bigot and a monster hate monger.

Isn't it Obama who said "words do matter"? How come Wright's words of hate and racism doesn't matter.

It is understandable for partisan Obamites wanting rest of the population to forget what he said but rest of us have our eyes wide open and fully functioning ears and brain.

As Einstein once said that "one can prove anything and everything with absurd logic" and that seems to be the case with Obama supporters.

All these wild and crazy posts do not change the fact that the Reverend IS A RACIST BIGOT. and no mealy mouth junk posted here today changes what he is!!! Sen. Obama had the gall today-- during an interview with Chris Mathews--NOT AN UBBIASED PUNDIT- to say THAT HE -- OBAMA--NEVER HEARD ANY OF THE RACIST COMMENTS IN HIS 18 YEARS attending the church. It is amazing he would tell such a bold face lie when in an interview Obama gave to reporters a few days after the speech that he was present on some occasions and--get this diapproved of them--HOW NICE OF HIM!!! The second lie of the week was the low class LIE ABOUT PRES> KENNEDY--HOW BASE WAS THAT. It is amazing Ted Kennedy and the rest of the clan kept their mouths shut. The fact that Chris Mathews--Howard Fineman-- and the rest of the MSNBC stable of biased pundits didn't correct the lies they continued bashing Sen. Clinton about Bosnia Is it any wonder MSNBC and the rest of the press is held in such low repute. This man who wants to be President lies to the American voters on 2 Really important issues and these pundits FAWN AND GROVEL at Obama's feet and give him a free pass. BEWARE PEOPLE THERE ARE MANY MORE LIES TO COME FROM THE OBAMA CAMP--they can't hide from the truth. I WASGOING TO VOTE FOR OBAMA BUT HIS BUDDY THE REVEREND CHANGED MY MIND. The poster who bragged about the Reverend being a marine--just so you know-- I am an Army Air Corp WW2 veteran and am livid THAT ANYONE MUCH LESS A REVEREND denigrate this country. I went to the Pacific and fought for my country on many bombing missons to hear this crap about this country--NO G-D D--N way.I know many REAL MARINES and THEY WOULD NEVER SAY ANYTHING LIKE THE REVEREND__NEVER EVER!!!!

"Retard" ttmjcij? Are you in grade school? And Rev. wright? Again? And Stillllll? This post is about Mrs. Clinton's "softer side"... sort of a reporter's notebook of her efforts to win them over. And this is a very positive post for her -- I think it simply plays into the natural instinct of the media to keep this race going as long as possible -- they like being on the road. But did anyone else notice that Sen. Clinton used the term "embedded" to describe a reporter traveling ... with her campaign? (I sawolfie30 the press conference and she used the term). I've never heard this term used other than to describe press attached to our military troops in combat. I'd think Mrs. Clinton would not want to bring this image back into play after her most recent, um, difficulties.

There's an old saying: "If you ride with the outlaws, you die with the outlaws."
Mr Obama rode with Rev Wright for 18 plus years. He idolized him for God's sake..no pun intended. If my pastor or priest or whoever said anything remotely what Rev Wright said that infamous day in church, I would have first stepped up on the stage and knocked him on his ass. Then I would quietly walk out of that church and never return. This is the mentality as I see it. Let's suppose your son or daughter was hanging out with this really nice guy or gal that just happened to be a drug dealer. This drug dealer happens to have a respectable degree from Yale, only problem is, there are no jobs out there that pay what he/ she is worth. So, selling week by the kilo seems to do the financial trick. One day, Mr Yale grad gets busted. Your son Johnny's best pal is now looking at some serious federal prison time. Okay, my analogy is a bit MUCH in order to drive the point home.

Bottom line, Mr Obama "RIDES WITH THE OUTLAWS". Don't get me started on his crooked scumbag neighbor landlord.

Now let's get real...the Hillary / Bosnia sniper fire story...what a joke! How often in a day do each and everyone of us exaggerate? Hes, Hillary got a bit worked up about her story and embellished a bit. Hell, it sure made the tale more exciting. So let's cut the sh-- and deal with the real problems of the world. BUSH is a retard! (no disrespect to retarded people) Hillary is a brilliant, experienced leader. Obama is a brilliant, inexperienced leader.

Which doctor would you rather perform brain surgery on you? The one that's done the procedure 1000 times or the doctor that is doing his first one? This is how I see this election. As for McCain...I respect him as a man and patriot however as Commander in Chief...we don't need another war monger. I don't want my two sons going to Iraq to die for a personal Bush family cause.

Hillary, you are going to be the next president of the USA!

Maybe she's more relaxed because she knows she has lost and is waiting to exit the race.

Waiting for what? Waiting for more chump donors to give her enough money that she can repay herself the five million she loaned to the campaign back in January. If she quits now, when she's short of cash and the campaign has huge unpaid debts, I'm not sure how she'd get her five million back.

Hillary Clinton does not need to show her soft side. She needs to show her records (tax returns, information on big donation to the Clinton Library, and White House records).

With politicians, people are entitled to facts.

Just as a point of information on the Bosnia vs. Pastor Wright brouhaha...It was the pastor who SAID the words that has people so exorcized, not Barack Obama. It was Hillary Clinton who SAID, more than once, that she had landed in Bosnia under sniper fire. It is apples to oranges, people. You cannot hold people responsible for what OTHER people say, only what they THEMSLEVES say. Toodle-oo.

In 1961, a young African-American man, after hearing President John F. Kennedy's challenge to, "Ask not what your country can do for you, but what you can do for your country," gave up his student deferment, left college in Virginia and voluntarily joined the Marines.

In 1963, this man, having completed his two years of service in the Marines, volunteered again to become a Navy corpsman. (They provide medical assistance to the Marines as well as to Navy personnel.)

The man did so well in corpsman school that he was the valedictorian and became a cardiopulmonary technician. Not surprisingly, he was assigned to the Navy's premier medical facility, Bethesda Naval Hospital, as a member of the commander in chief's medical team, and helped care for President Lyndon B. Johnson after his 1966 surgery. For his service on the team, which he left in 1967, the White House awarded him three letters of commendation.

What is even more remarkable is that this man entered the Marines and Navy not many years after the two branches began to become integrated.

While this young man was serving six years on active duty, Vice President Dick Cheney, who was born the same year as the Marine/sailor, received five deferments, four for being an undergraduate and graduate student and one for being a prospective father. Presidents Bill Clinton and George W. Bush, both five years younger than the African-American youth, used their student deferments to stay in college until 1968. Both then avoided going on active duty through family connections.

Who is the real patriot? The young man who interrupted his studies to serve his country for six years or our three political leaders who beat the system? Are the patriots the people who actually sacrifice something or those who merely talk about their love of the country?

After leaving the service of his country, the young African-American finished his final year of college, entered the seminary, was ordained as a minister, and eventually became pastor of a large church in one of America's biggest cities.

This man is Rev. Jeremiah Wright, the retiring pastor of Trinity United Church of Christ, who has been in the news for comments he made over the last three decades.

Since these comments became public we have heard criticisms, condemnations, denouncements and rejections of his comments and him.

We've seen on television, in a seemingly endless loop, sound bites of a select few of Rev. Wright's many sermons.

Some of the Wright's comments are inexcusable and inappropriate and should be condemned, but in calling him "unpatriotic," let us not forget that this is a man who gave up six of the most productive years of his life to serve his country.

How many of Wright's detractors, Rush Limbaugh and Bill O'Reilly to name but a few, volunteered for service, and did so under the often tumultuous circumstances of a newly integrated armed forces and a society in the midst of a civil rights struggle? Not many.

While words do count, so do actions.

Let us not forget that, for whatever Rev. Wright may have said over the last 30 years, he has demonstrated his patriotism.

oh, come on... Billary doesn't have a "softer side"

they're a ruthless, calculating politicial couple: a two headed monster...and that's actually their main appeal (for those who like that kind of thing)

The Clintons only care about power...only care about "winning". They would sacrifice party, country, family, friends, (you)to "win".

That's why Hillary voted for the Iraq war...and that's why 4,000 American soldiers are dead: because it was thought to be politically expedient.

again........some people respect them for exactly that ruthlessness.

Personally, I don't.

Obama would be a breath of fresh air, compared to the Clintons.

Wow, how could she have any sense of humor or softer side after what the media has put her thru. It's amazing how much more important Bosnia has become than Obama's Pastor Wright and how the black community has embraced the pastor by honoring him and giving him a standing ovation! Obama lied too. But then that's Obama.......... I see the hand writing on the wall. Another election like when the evangelicals voted Bush into office. Only this time it will be too late as our country is in one "mell of a hess" as a result of it.
