McCain Plans Major NY Fundraiser
By Michael D. Shear
Sen. John McCain will hold his first really big fundraiser next week in New York City, a gala event hosted by New York Jets owner Woody Johnson and attended by some of the biggest names in New York finance and industry. The joint fundraiser with the Republican
National Committee is expected to raise about $4 million.
The event on May 7 at the Sheraton New York Hotel and Towers is the kickoff "Victory" event, in which McCain and the RNC hope to fill their coffers together. McCain's advisers have said the events will target people willing to donate as much as $70,000 -- divided up among McCain's campaign, the national party and state GOP efforts.
After the event, Johnson -- who is an heir to the Johnson & Johnson fortune -- will host a dinner with McCain and his wife and the senator's biggest bundlers, who have committed to raise more than $100,000 each for his campaign.
