With Bingaman Endorsement, Obama Takes Senate Support Lead

By Jonathan Weisman
Sen. Barack Obama officially pulled ahead today in the scramble for endorsements from colleagues in the U.S. Senate, thanks to Sen. Jeff Bingaman of New Mexico.

Never one of the Senate's most high-profile members, Bingaman now has a claim to political fame: He put Obama over the top after his long slog to catch Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton, who had a head start in winning the support of her peers. Obama now has 14 endorsements to Clinton's 13.

Obama will also get the vote of Sen. Russ Feingold (D-Wis.), who has not officially endorsed him but said he will support Obama at the convention in deference to his state's voters. Clinton has a similar pledge from Sen. Barbara Boxer of California.

"Our nation faces a daunting number of critical challenges: reasserting America's leadership in the world, meeting our needs for energy independence, addressing global warming, making healthcare accessible and affordable, positioning our economy to effectively compete globally, and extricating ourselves from the war in Iraq, to name a few," Bingaman wrote in his endorsement announcement. "To make progress, we must rise above the partisanship and the issues that divide us to find common ground. We must move the country in a dramatically new direction."

Of course, Clinton can still flip the endorsement balance back in her favor: Not counting Clinton, Obama, and the Senate's two Democratic-leaning independents, 18 Democratic senators still have yet to endorse.

A full list of endorsements by senators follows the jump:

Obama:

Sen. Bob Casey (Pa.)
Sen. Kent Conrad (N.D.)
Sen. Chris Dodd (Conn.)
Sen. Byron Dorgan (N.D.)
Sen. Dick Durbin (Ill.)
Sen. Tim Johnson (S.D.)
Sen. Edward Kennedy (Mass.)
Sen. John Kerry (Mass.)
Sen. Amy Klobuchar (Minn.)
Sen. Patrick Leahy (Vt.)
Sen. Claire McCaskill (Mo.)
Sen. Ben Nelson (Neb.)
Sen. Jay Rockefeller (W.Va.)
Sen. Jeff Bingaman (N.M.)

Clinton:

Sen. Evan Bayh (Ind.)
Sen. Maria Cantwell (Wash.)
Sen. Dianne Feinstein (Calif.)
Sen. Daniel Inouye (Hawaii)
Sen. Blanche Lincoln (Ark.)
Sen. Bob Menendez (N.J.)
Sen. Barbara Mikulski (Md.)
Sen. Patty Murray (Wash.)
Sen. Bill Nelson (Fla.)
Sen. Mark Pryor (Ark.)
Sen. Charles Schumer (N.Y.)
Sen. Debbie Stabenow (Mich.)
Sen. Sheldon Whitehouse (R.I.)

Two senators, Russ Feingold of Wisconsin, and Barbara Boxer of California, have said they will vote at the convention for the candidates chosen by their states, Obama for Feingold, Clinton for Boxer.

Don't let the Lush Rambo listening war-loving HRC for nominee nutcases get under your skins. Dems must unite.

50 percent plus of the posters are fake Republican-inspired attempts to divide Dems.

Thanks for the list.
I am going to hold them all accountable because Obama isn't going to win the general election. A demographic Democrats need is women, and the media bias and good old boys in Washington have interfered enough. Clump that together with the offended voters from Mi and FL and Obama isn't going to make it.

Now this made me laugh. Women will fall into line behind of Obama for the general. Not because they love him but because of his two silent running mates.

You know them, they're Roe and Wade. Now with these two plus the grim reaper being on speed dial of at least three liberal/moderate supremes the Shoulder Pad Feminists know that a McCain win means the end of Roe V. Wade.

So what do you think these Hillary Supporters want more? Do they what to have their big Whine and Cheese party or do they want to keep a women's right to choose?

I feel sorry for those Senators that have endorsed Obama in the recent past. They will be held responsible for supporting a radical socialist that surrounds himself with America hating friends that seems to have little use for the white race.

I would love to see the mainstream media ask each of those Senators just what is it about Obama and his radical views that they admire the most. Obama is an empty suit that only sounds credible when he is delivering a prepared speech that has little substance.

to Republicans for O'bama (which is really difficult to believe):
"The Federal Funding Accountability and Transparency Act of 2006 (S. 2590)[1] is an Act of Congress that requires the full disclosure of all entities or organizations receiving federal funds beginning in fiscal year (FY) 2007 on a website maintained by the Office of Management and Budget. This bill was introduced by Senator Tom Coburn, for himself and Senators Barack Obama, Tom Carper and John McCain on April 6, 2006 [2] and passed unanimously in the Senate on September 7, 2006 and was passed in the House on September 13, 2006. The bill was signed into law by President George W. Bush on September 26, 2006.[3]"

Apparently, Sneator McCain was also one of those to introduce this bill and your evil President Bush signed it into law.
The next bill is just an expansion of the Nunn-Lugar bill passed previously.
The Immigration Reform bill that luckily DIDN'T PASS, was just amnesty for illegals and would have cost the USA billions and surrendered to Mexico, entiende?!
Bottom line is, O'bama is an afro-centric Marxist and keeps company with racists (Wright, Farakhan,etc..), domestic terrorists (Ayers, Dorn, etc..), and shady characters (Rezko), and has a question about whether he is some kind of sleeping Muslim.
He is not now or ever POTUS material.

As an Oregon registered Independent, I have been following the running online commentary about the presidential race for several months. We will be having our closed primary in May. Tomorrow is the last day to change registrations to be able to participate in either of the party primaries and I have considered giving it a shot. Here are the conclusions I have drawn:

1) Reverend Wright is not on a ballot.
2) Bill Clinton is not on a ballot.
3) None of the candidates has significant administrative experience outside guiding their own campaigns.
4) None of the candidates has significant business experience.
5) All of the candidates have governmental plans that will add to the national debt.
6) The Obama campaign followed the path of Jimmy Carter, out-organizing opponents very early
7) The Clinton campaign took strong advantage of name recognition
8) The McCain campaign is taking advantage of the Democratic in-fighting
9) The Obama campaign is largely counting on the youth, well-educated, and black minority now and into the fall.
10) The Clinton campaign is largely counting on women, the elderly and blue-collar workers now and into the fall.
11) McCain is focusing on the fall and seeks votes from all the same.

Hmm. I think I will sit out the primary. As an older white male with a white collar job no one seems to want my vote anyway. Ditto for the fall.

Wright is nothing more or less than an excuse for folks to oppose Obama who don't want to admit the real reason. Whatever does it matter what Obama's minister says? What matters is what Obama says as compared to what McCain says and that is clear -- MCain is Bush III, with eternal war and recession forced by borrowing from the Chinese to support tax breaks for the wealthiest and for the oil companies. Obama will change that. What do the rantings of some snake-handling minister have to do with anything important? It's just another Rovian swift-boat diversion so that the feeble minded and closet racists can find a reason to keep destroying themselves and their children's future. And, as it worked enough to get the worst president in US history re-elected, I suppose we have to take it seriously. However, we don'thave to take seriously anyone who uses this excuse to oppose Obama -- they are what they are and should be identified as such. Wake up and smell the coffee, American voters -- you are once again being played for suckers by a meaningless wedge issue.

Dont you WANT to remember how often HRC changed her mind?
How often she lied?
What she voted for?
How often her husband lied?

Do you realy want a person like that to become your next president?

Obama is the most honest person in politics I ever saw.
If he becomes potus, the image of US will rise a lot in the world.

All these hateful writers here should ask themselves, wy US is one of the most disliked countries in the world right now.

One of the reasons are all these lies from Bush, Cheney, Condi and so on.

And the fact, that US claims to figt for freedom and human rights, hiring at the same time private companies for torture.
Accusing other countries an GUANTANAMO, WATERBOARDING

The election in Pennsylvania

Obama stared the campaign very late while the other candidate camped with her family and cosines there for months.

He was not a known figure in the US politics for more than 16 years but she was.

He made it clear at the beginning of the campaign that he wanted only to narrow the gap not to win.

His opponent prepared a trap "interview"...debate? to dig out mistakes and make it a big issue...the way it was conducted was unjust

In my opinion with a thousand advantages she had, she underperformed by scoring only 9 points over him.

She announced the outcome of the vote way before it was counted and hurriedly asked Obama why he could not win...How she could be so sure, before the vote was counted, that she could win? I thought she was rehearsing that phrase...and it came out of her mouth unexpectedly.

She talks about experience but experience sometimes is a disadvantage causing to blind people not to see new ways of doing things while keeping them to follow the same track...Since she has been more than 16 years in that US politics she is already addicted to the current political system and she can never be any better than she was...

It is not her experience that keeps this country safe or helps her to lead this big nation but the art, insightfulness and hope; otherwise the job is mostly done by intellectual people of all professions and walk of life surrounding the president. There are more wise and experienced people in the senate than either of the candidates. Here experience in working with existing system can have a totally negative role in the change a country demands....

Hilary has far less than a gentle personality. A candidate who put herself as a secretary by talking about how to pick up a phone call can never be an insightful leader...I think the job is more than that

On many respects, I really admire Obama better than his opponent

We really love the idea of change where a closet radical, married to a black separatist, associated with a domestic terrorist, inspires love from Islamic terrorists, despises Middle America, and of course, attends an anti-American "church" led by a hate-filled, radical bigot. No thanks, you can keep that change.

Obama will be our next President. Get used to it people. Fortunantly for our nation, there are enough bright people who will take the time to look beyond what the media is pushing and find out the truth about Obama. Superdelegates likely already know the truth about the guy. Hillary, on the other hand, has embraced the opposite of truth, has lied and proven herself and her character as not trustworthy.

The media can only cause people to speculate about Obama. But we know for a fact that Hillary is a liar. That's an easy choice.

I would hope the people of America have the final say, although the supreme court sure did put a hex on the lower class by demanding identification when voting. It really depends on what type they want, but really suspicious of us white folk to have this happen at such a crucial time.

Obama vs CLinton

COMPARISON OF POSITIVES MISSING FROM THE DIALOGUE
Seems like everyone only harps on the ridiculous negatives and gaffes, this is my counter with positives from each. No scandals or innuendos.

Added three amendments to the "Comprehensive Immigration Reform Act"

Obama sponsored legislation requiring plant owners to notify state and local authorities of radioactive leaks.

Obama worked with Democrat Russ Feingold of Wisconsin to eliminate gifts of travel on corporate jets by lobbyists to members of Congress and require disclosure of bundled campaign contributions under the "Honest Leadership and Open Government Act,"

He introduced S. 453, a bill to criminalize deceptive practices in federal elections, including fraudulent flyers and automated phone calls, as witnessed in the 2006 midterm elections.

Joined Republican Chuck Hagel of Nebraska in introducing legislation to reduce risks of nuclear terrorism.

Obama also sponsored a Senate amendment to the State Children's Health Insurance Program providing one year of job protection for family members caring for soldiers with combat-related injuries.

Obama has made official trips to Eastern Europe, the Middle East, and Africa. The trip focused on strategies to control the world's supply of conventional weapons, biological weapons, and weapons of mass destruction as a first defense against terrorist attacks.

Two weeks before Hamas won the legislative election, Obama warned that "the U.S. will never recognize winning Hamas candidates unless the group renounces its fundamental mission to eliminate Israel.

Hey James Callahan I have news for you. Hillary did NOT win Florida or Michigan because candidates were told NOT to campaign and NOT to put their names on the ballot. But she did, because she's a cheat. Edwards was still in the race at the time and he didn't put his name on the ballot or campaign in either, just like Obama. HILLARY DID NOT WIN FLORIDA OR MICHIGAN. Instead, like so many other things in her life, SHE IS TRYING TO STEAL THE "WIN."

Thank you, Jeff Bingaman, for helping the nation turn the page for its better angels. Hillary Clinton, as with the Bosnia sniper fire delusion, suffers from a fantasy that she is the front-runner, and with her forever shifting goalposts, her new loony math and kitchen-sink-sewer, failed and bankrupt campaign, wants Obama to give her FREE AIR TIME to debate her for the TWENTY-SECOND time. I am a feminist older than Mrs. Clinton and as an American patriot, I need to do the right thing and tell Mrs. Clinton and sex-addicted impeached Bill, shut up already! The Clinton dynasty has been spoiling not just Obama's race in November but also the entire Democratic Party and its representatives'--congressmen, governors, district officers, mayors, etc, etc--ability to win in future elections. Bill is fighting Obama to return to the WH for a third term, and Obama has been fighting not just two Clintons (both playing every dirty card in politics) but also the GOP and the mainstream media who want to see the contest continue and their high ratings maintained. To claim Senator Obama is not electable because he is black is to say that only white Americans, like Bill and Hillary, can become President, as they have for over 200 years. No Native, Hispanic, or Asian American need apply as well. Is this what we want for our republic? Senator Obama MUST denounce and reject Hillary's shameless agenda, to gain free public airtime off his back. He MUST stop treating Hillary as an older white woman like his mother and therefore to be respected, and show her for the corrupt (25 million dollars gained from influence peddling last year alone), lying (Bosnia sniper fire), bullying (Judas name-calling), ruthless (just look at her ads), unelectable (highest negatives ever in a presidential candidate, and negatives increasing every day) small human that she is. He MUST begin to draw the contrasts in campaign tone, character, and track record on community work and protection of our constitution that show Hillary as the base fear-mongering, saber-rattling candidate that she is. Senator Obama is not a white candidate, he is not a black candidate. He is our American candidate and he will open to door for ALL of US to be equal, without having Hillary keep us down in her plantation labor quarters.

Before Obama counts his eggs, he better make sure he doesn't follow a pattern of disenfranchsing millions of voters. Michigan and Florida voted for Hillary and those millions of voters need their vote counted. Disenfranchising them because of tecnhical details will not matter in November. they will remember they were disenfranchised. They will remember that their votes were not counted. We will remember.

You should read the entire article in the Los Angeles Times about Obama taking money($112,000) in exchange for writing a letter to help Blackwell get $320,000 in state grants. It's a lot more serious than you think. Watch this become an issue in November.

Lukewarm: "If you are going to make bold statements, back them up."
Believe me, I hear what you are say all too well. But this is politics; it isn't about thinking, or proving, or anything of the sort. Colbert coined the phrase "truthiness," i.e., if it feel right than it must be right. Thus, a fact to these people is whatever they want it to be. Fact, evidence, or anything contrary to their position is merely opposition spin regardless of validity.

Look, I hate it as much as you do, but sometime we just have to concede that some people will believe whatever, whenever, and wherever they want.

To those of you who think this is 'over' if and when Obama becomes the nominee - the latest AP polls show Clinton beating McCain by 9 points (50-41) and Obama beating McCain by only 3 pts (46-44). This should be worrisome to the DNC the undecided superdelegates.

Oh, and using profanity when referring to my candidate ensures I will not vote in November if she does not win the nomination.

But what mild mannered, middle class white America really noticed is the huge Black audiance cheering wildly.
Trust me, THAT got our attention.

He wouldn't do that. Had he been FDR, the Germans would not have bombed Pearl Harbor becuaws he would have talked with them ahead of time. When did FDR ever talk, I mean really talk with Hitler and all those guys? Pearl Harbor was our Chicken coming home to roost! And World War I? General Flapjack Pershing would have never gone "over there" - not our problem. There wouldn't have been "No Irish Served" signs in New York City. How would he have done it all you ask? This is the guy who said that we should get gas tax money back this summer because the poor people have older cars that use more gas. Is he kidding? The people in Hummers and Porches are the wealthy class sucking the blood out of the middle and lower classes. McCain is out of touch with reality. Hillary has raised three times the money as John McCain and his donors are even larger from corporations.

At a minimum, that would mean that based on money raised, Obama has 300% more supporters that Clinton and 600% more than McCain.

And some idiot thinks Obama is going to be "crushed in the general election"? That is funny.

Barack Obama is an inspiration to all mankind!

bobby sue, your analogy is as dumb as your name. the japanese attacked us while they were a part of the axis powers (NOT the axis of evil that GW mentioned that I am sure made you want us to believe we're in WWIII), and were aligned with germany. in addition, the germans attempted to invade the US on June 13th 1942 when they dropped off a group of spies via U-boat in amagansett on long island , who then made there way to new york city before thankfully getting turned in.
FDR did not serve in the military, but he never labeled himself a "war president" or a "true military president." Another difference between FDR and GW? FDR lead the country out of a depression, GW's 8 years has come pretty close to leading us back into one.
As for your if Wright was white comment... you are correct about the double standard, yet based on your ignorance of the facts in other issues you discussed, you are probably ignorant in that matter as well and believe everything that is said on tv becuase it's on tv or that everything your preacher said is right.

Hillary's List of Lies
By Dick Morris

The USA Today/Gallup survey clearly explains why Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton (D-N.Y.) is losing. Asked whether the candidates were "honest and trustworthy," Sen. John McCain (R-Ariz.) won with 67 percent, with Sen. Barack Obama (D-Ill.) right behind him at 63. Hillary scored only 44 percent, the lowest rating for any candidate for any attribute in the poll.

Hillary simply cannot tell the truth. Here's her scorecard:

Admitted Lies

• Chelsea was jogging around the Trade Center on Sept. 11, 2001. (She was in bed watching it on TV.)
• Hillary was named after Sir Edmund Hillary. (She admitted she was wrong. He climbed Mt. Everest five years after her birth.)
• She was under sniper fire in Bosnia. (A girl presented her with flowers at the foot of the ramp.)
• She learned in The Wall Street Journal how to make a killing in the futures market. (It didn't cover the market back then.)

Whoppers She Won't Confess To

• She didn't know about the FALN pardons.
• She didn't know that her brothers were being paid to get pardons that Clinton granted.
• Taking the White House gifts was a clerical error.
• She didn't know that her staff would fire the travel office staff after she told them to do so.
• She didn't know that the Peter Paul fundraiser in Hollywood in 2000 cost $700,000 more than she reported it had.
• She opposed NAFTA at the time.
• She was instrumental in the Irish peace process.
• She urged Bill to intervene in Rwanda.
• She played a role in the '90s economic recovery.
• The billing records showed up on their own.
• She thought Bill was innocent when the Monica scandal broke.
• She was always a Yankees fan.
• She had nothing to do with the New Square Hasidic pardons (after they voted for her 1,400-12 and she attended a meeting at the White House about the pardons).
• She negotiated for the release of refugees in Macedonia (who were released the day before she got there).

With a record like that, is it any wonder that we suspect her of being less than honest and straightforward?

Wait and see, Mrs. Clinton will steal the nomination. The superdelegates are bought by the same lobbyists who have bought Clinton. I had hoped to come back to the Democratic Party, but there's no way that's going to happen with the Clintons. The Clintons have always used other people to do their bidding. Then the other people get shafted. But unfortunately people never seem to learn. They'll do it again. I wanted to vote for Obama, but I believe that I'm going to have no choice by McCain. McCain is not bad. I would feel much more comfortable with him than Mrs. Clinton, who, I am convinced is insane. The paranoia, the outrageous lies, the divisiveness. I don't think she has a firm grip on reality and I do not want her in there. I shudder to think of what she'd do with the Patriot Act.

Since the passage of the Civil Rights Act of 1964 (outlawing workplace discrimination
against women and minorities) women have made substantial progress. This is perhaps
no more evident than in the U.S. Senate where there are no less than sixteen members
of the female gender. Most of these Senators could probably be described as being
self-made politicians. They have advanced by utilizing their own abilities and political
skills and most Americans are proud of the diversity that they bring to that august
legislative body.

Of course it could be argued that a certain presidential candidate who is a former
first lady does not fit that description: of being a substantially self-made politician.
But then again she still might have become a Senator from New York even if she had
opted to get out of that dysfunctional marriage as many other women may have
chosen to do: in similar circumstances. However, as is well known, things did work
themselves out in that marriage.

It should be pointed out, nonetheless, that a certain Rev. Jeremiah Wright played a
part in providing the spiritual guidance that kept that presidential marriage from falling
apart. One wonders if he ever received a personalized thank you note for his efforts?

But there are many women of all ages and races, who are struggling to pay the
cost of college tuition for themselves or their daughters, who would love to get a
heads up on financial opportunities: especially in the securities and the futures
market. Why doesn't the Senator from New York share with her supporters
the investment and/or speculative techniques that she and her advisers used to
turn a $1000 investment into a $100,000 windfall. That is a 100 fold multiplication
of her original wager (or investment)!

Even if the typical woman (or man for that matter) puts up a thousand dollars and
it is only multiplied by a factor of ten, then she will still be able to pay a lot of her
daughters' (or sons') tuition with the extra $9000.

Hopefully we are not grasping at straws here and it turns out that the presidential
candidate has forgotten the details of the financial magic that she (or her advisers) used
in that astonishing financial achievement: just as she forgot (and therefore mis-spoke)
about the real extent of the "sniper fire" in Bosnia.

With the price of gas approaching $5 a gallon, the stock market collapsing as a
result of the sub-prime loan scandal, a voter can't be blame if she or he dreams
of getting a good tip on the cattle futures or the stock market.

One can only wonder about what condition the economy will be in when our troops
from Iraq and Afghanistan (many of whom have been under real sniper fire) finally
get back home.

gene, you rock! Thank you for saving me a lot of trouble by saying (at 5:14) exactly what I was thinking (except I wouldn't have used the word "boobery" - are you British?).

It's funny that more educated Democrats support Obama, yet the majority of those who oppose Obama suggest that supporting him is some kind of mindless, cult-like activity. It's really the opposite. HRC can not win and she looks to be willing to take the democratic party down with her, in the general election.

Nor can Obama win now.

Can someone/anyone show me where HRC positives (among voters) is higher than her negatives? Blacks and college age students will stay home instead of vote for her. My hope is that they do not stay home for future elections.

It is clear the HRC does not want Obama to win so she/they are poisoning the well and setting up any lost of the Presidency because of his campaign.

Because of HRC (or because Obama choose to run) we have lost the Presidency so our democratic hope left is to expand the Senate and House.

The question now is which candidate does the best in that area.

I started this contest supporting both (sent both money) and moved to Obama. Now I do not care about the Presidency and am working for a senate candidate.

An awful lot of people seem to want to lay claim to being "True Americans." Like it or not, we are ALL true Americans. The sooner we get that through our heads, the sooner we'll get something done. Hilary's got a good agenda, but she has a terrible track record of creating enemies, lashing out, and bunkering in. All those great policy ideas are going to waste if the new president can't bring people together, including Congress. Obama has demonstrated he can do that with an unprecedented come-from-behind campaign by a relative unknown. And a campaign is the best harbinger of an administration. Hers: calculating, aggressive, pure politics. His: organized, strategic, and inspiring.

By the way: is anyone else disturbed that the first woman president would get there largely on the name and cache of her former president husband? What does that say to our daughters? Let's hold out for a self-made woman! Out with the dynasties!

"vote for someone I don't trust to be President." lucygirl

Well, lucygirl,

all the recent polls show that 61% of the voters do not trust the Clintons. They have the highest negatives in any of the polls- especially among independents and Republicans.

Once the media starts focusing on her totally irresponsible threats of nuclear retaliation in the middle east- the remaining superdelegates will abandon the Clinton candidacy for good.

She pledged "massive retaliation" against Iran. She said that she would also adopt the same policy with regard to other countries in the region, not just Israel. "We will let the Iranians know, that, yes, an attack on Israel ... would trigger massive retaliation. But so would an attack on those countries [she mentioned by name the monarchies of Saudi Arabia, the UAE, and Kuwait] that are willing to go under the security umbrella and forswear their own nuclear ambitions."

In effect, Clinton was declaring her desire to create a military pact between the US and several of the semi-feudal oil sheikdoms. This would be a major commitment to increased US military involvement in the area. She went on to criticize the Bush administration from the right, saying that it "has failed in our efforts to convince the rest of the world that that is a danger, not only to us, and not just to Israel but to the region and beyond. "Completely obliterate" scenario? Even a Republican like Teddy Roosevelt had the good sense to SPEAK SOFTLY and carry a big stick. No major world leader today EVER makes statements like she did- not even George W. Bush. She's so insecure and anxious to prove her toughness that she votes to start ridiculous wars and follows that up with bellicose statements. Or maybe she just truly likes using the military, just like she enjoys using her dirty trick squads in her campaign.

Either way, it's sad that the Democratic party is having such a hard time deciding between a true Democrat and this wannabe Republican, at least on her matters of foreign policy.

You sir, are a moron. The only persons who name their son Darryl is the parents of Darryl. Take your racism and prejudice back to Obama's church where it belongs.

Obama's candidacy is all about raceism. And all the racism is coming from Obama's campaign and his supporters themselves. His great uniter image is a fraud!

I am truly astounded that there is a section of this society that seems to truly love being ignorant, and want leaders that embrace and reflect that ignorance.
Do you want the guy who runs your 401k or stock portfolio to be a guy who hangs out in the bar till 2am every night, or a guy who has an education in finance and studies the depth of the issues involved to make you money on your investments?

Truly, sad that this is the depth of reason on the part of some members in this society, God help us all if this is representative of the future leaders of this country.

No matter how much someone may support Hillary, she has run a very desperate and messy campaign. To me its an indication of how she would run the country. Hillary does not have a shred of diplomacy and does whatever she can to get what she wants no matter who she has to step on. I know she is smart and has experience, after all she lived in the White House and has seen what it is to be President. But given all that she still voted for a war incorrectly, her campaign has run out of money TWICE, there has been fighting within her campaign, and people have either quit or moved to Obama because of her bad attitude. A Hillary cabinet I suspect would be just as messy. Obama's campaign has been brillantly efficient. To me experience is not enough, someone has to have the right tempermant to get things done. Obama impressed me with the fact that he's willing to talk to Democrats, Republicans, Independents and will even appoint each to his cabinet when elected. I'm impressed by that and I don't hear the other candidates saying anything like that. To get things done we have to change how things in Washington are done. Otherwise it will be the same thing.

Just before the 2004 presidential convention," Jacoby writes, "the journalist Ron Suskind reported a chilling conversation with a senior Bush aide who told Suskind that members of the press were part of what the Bush administration considers 'the reality-based community' -- those who believe that solutions emerge from judicious study of discernible reality."

The aide bragged that "when we act, we create our own reality."

These "realities" -- that the Iraq war has been a stunningly successful response to 9/11, that FEMA did a heck of a job in responding to Hurricane Katrina, that tax cuts for the rich benefited all Americans, that tapping telephones in Tuscaloosa stops terrorists in Timbuktu -- speak for themselves.

In much the same way, many Americans create their own reality from what they choose to believe, be it fundamentalist preachers preaching that the world is 4,000 years old to street rumors about AIDS being a white plot unleashed to devastate black communities. The A.C. Nielsen Co. reports the average American watched 4 hours and 30 minutes a day of television in 2006. The National Endowment for the Arts reports that the same average American spends 26 minutes a day reading.

Oh, and the choices TV offers! You don't ever have to watch anything hard or unpleasant if you don't want to. If you choose, you can watch people getting tattoos for an hour or two each day. You can devote yourself 24 hours a day to sports news or celebrity news or news that you agree with, and commentators who tell you only what you want to hear. And when they make fun of egghead professors and book learning -- global warming, what a joke! -- you can revel in your own anti-intellectualism.

Politicians know all of this, of course. That's why they use 30-second attack ads that pander to short attention spans and that reinforce distorted beliefs. TV news directors know it, too; to avoid driving off any more of their dwindling audiences, they try not to use any more than 10 seconds of any candidate's remarks. In 2000, Jacoby reports, the average political sound-bite was down to 7.8 seconds.

So there was Barack Obama, making a 37-minute speech on a very unpleasant subject, replete with literary and historical allusions, in the middle of a Tuesday morning, trusting that Americans somehow would stop and pay attention to it. Even if you don't plan to vote for the man, you have to hope he was right.

In what surely ranks as, among other things, one the boldest political gambles in modern times, Sen. Obama decided that the American people were willing to wrestle with complex ideas about the most divisive issue in nation. If it turns out he's right, it will be a signal moment in recent intellectual history.

The trend surely has been in the other direction. In her controversial new book "The Age of American Unreason," author Susan Jacoby argues that the "scales of American history have shifted heavily against the vibrant and varied intellectual life so essential to functioning democracy. During the past four decades, America's endemic anti-intellectual tendencies have been grievously exacerbated by a new species of semiconscious anti-rationalism, feeding on and fed by an ignorant popular culture of video images and unremitting noise that leaves no room for contemplation or logic."

In other words, she argues, it's become fashionable to be stupid.

Here is a nation founded by an eerily atypical cadre of intellectuals -- Jefferson, Adams, Madison, Franklin and their ilk -- who not only had read the Greeks but also had absorbed them, who had read Locke and Voltaire and were building a nation along Enlightenment principles.

Here is a nation that has been led by that archetypal American hero, the self-made man: the Lincoln who strides out of the backwoods with an ax on his shoulder and a book in his hand; the Truman who failed as a farmer, failed as a haberdasher but somehow, because he read widely and deeply, had the wisdom to help rebuild a shattered world.

And now, here is this same nation, led by a man who can't correctly pronounce the word "nuclear" and who once told an interviewer that he avoids reading newspapers because they're full of "opinions."

This is not to say that President Bush is stupid, only that he is profoundly intellectually incurious, willing to substitute belief for science, ideology for fact. And in this, he is typical of his age.

My fellow Latino and Asian Americans,
It seems that Asians and Latinos, and other non-black minorities have two options. They can either stay in the Democratic party and continue to be ignored by latte liberals, or they can join a party that is for true racial equality.
The Republican Party will not prefer one minority group over another. Also, we will nominate candidates based on merit and not by race.
Martin Luther King advocated a color-blind society. You cannot defeat racism with more racism. it is clear that people of all backgrounds face racism. We will not focus on one group at the expense of others.

We will unite the country by common values of promoting strong families, the American Dream, and the goal of a unified America.

Latinos and Asian Americans abandon the Democratic Party - they have failed you. To us you are all American and are welcome to share in the American Dream

Does anyone else see how priceless the Michigan/ Florida debacle is? Two states who decided that they were so self important that they had to jump to the front of the line ended up causing the most diasterous primary season is decades. Had they not been so selfish and just stuck with the program, Hil probably would have won them in due course and been able to make a much more compelling argument to get rid of Barak.

Dems are their own worst enemies. If they could be half as organized and focused on the finish line as the republicans, they would have carried they day in 2000, and ran away with it in 04. It's just laughably pathetic to watch at this point.

Most importantly, no one is watching McCain who is able to completely fly under the radar and build an incredibly strong campaign working with focus groups and others, without having to even show himself in public. He'll hit the national campaign looking rested and energized, while the entire democratic party is going to be completely exhausted.

But hey, keep at it. Eventually you'll hit that wide open lay-up one of these elections!

The Clinton's were some of the latest high profile Dem leaders to take black Democrats for granted. Thsi sort of thing has been going on for a very long time. I remember Jesse Jackson complaining that Democrat leaders are using the black vote, but then he said...but where do we have to go? So Dem leaders continue to use the black vote. And it's even a calculation with Obama too. Rev Wright has clearly made racist statements, no matter how anyone wants to explain-away or ignore the remarks. If it quacks, it's a duck. Period. The reason why Obama walked the tightrope and kinda-sorta disavowed Wright's diatribes is he can't flat-out rubuke Wright because he'll be accused of being a sellout. So, Rev Wright is an albatross around Obama's neck that he'll wear going into November, and it WILL pull Obama down.

Quiz: When do you see Democrat leaders paying attention to the black community, even showing up at black churches?

Martino,

I totally understand what you are saying and it angers me that Obama or his camp isn't playing up the way the Clinton's sought out Rev. Wright (and any other black leader for that matter). I just love how the Clinton's are being exposed for what they always were - Fair Weather Friends. They sure loved our black vote in the 90's. I NEVER trusted them - I never voted for them. I KNEW they were just using the "black vote" for power lust. How quickly the tables turn. Now we have ol' Slick Willy himself accusing black of playing the race card with him. LAUGHABLE! Oh racism is alive and well in this country, Martino - so very very very sad to see. Nobody understands how we think or what we go through - white people will never get it - even the "liberal" ones. They just won't.

You go Barak/Hillary it will be abortions for everyone, wealth redistribution, social engineering, and govt interference in all levels of life. The Constitution will be a quaint outdated guideline, subject to interpretation by the EU. You go with McCain, you may get someone with a bit (but not much) more common sense...The recent decision by the SC on picture ID's makes so much sense it hurts...If you think it's a bad idea then vote for the Democrats 'cause common sense will be a thing of the past with either Barak or Hillary.

IT PAINS ME TO LIVE IN A COUNTRY THAT FROM THE DAY I WAS BORN I WAS HATED BECAUSE OF THE COLOR OF MY SKIN!!!! and regardless of what Rev Wright says he will be scrutinized and judged; if this man was such a detriment to Obama how has he been able maintain a political career. The Clintons used Rev. Wrights services in the time of their problems why has that issue not been addressed!!!!

Posted by: Martino | April 28, 2008 5:30 PM | Report abuse

"LA Times is now reporting Obama took money in exchange for political favors. He awarded a state contract to Robert Blackwell Jr."

That is a lie. Illinois Senators cannot "award" contracts. Senator Obama wrote a letter. The contract was awarded by the full Illinois congress, senate and signed by the governor.

The day after Obama wrote his letter urging the awarding of the state funds, Obama's U.S. Senate campaign received a $1,000 donation from Blackwell. Whoop de doo.

The Clintons took $450,000 for pardoning the felon Marc Rich on their last day in office. Since then they have taken untold millions for past and future favors. Why won't they release the names of their donors to the Clinton foundation and the Clinton library? It's obvious to most that by doing so, their flagrant influence peddling would be exposed for everyone to see. It isn't going to happen.

Google Ron Burkle, Bill Clinton and Frank Giustra to understand where the billionaires are putting their money.- It's not on Senator Obama who has an average campaign contribution of $96 from almost 2,000,000 voters.

The mass media simply cannot handle this because their clients- the corporations who have run American government since the 60's- are scared of the real change that Senator Obama offers.

The Clintons had their chance and have cashed in for $109,000,000.

If elected for a third term in the White House, that will look like spare change for this sad but rich duo.

Not this time.

In the Philadelphia debate, both Hillary and Obama regurgitated their familiar mantra that they would veto the falsely maligned Bush taxcuts which resuscitated the U.S. economy from the inherited Clinton recession; but, which Hillary and Obama say favor only the rich. That tired old populist ploy of "soak the rich". However , a brief review of IRS statistics related to post-Bush tax cut revenues reveals exactly the opposite. Specifically, the share of individual income taxes paid by the bottom 40% of American taxpayers, as a result of expanded child tax credits and earner income tax credits, was reduced from 0% to a -4%; and, took another ten million low income Americans completely off of the tax roles. That is, a very significant four(4) % decrease. On the other end of the scale, the tax burden on the top 20% of income earners, the so-called rich, increased to a full 85% of the total tax burden. For examples on the lower end of the scale, a Single Individual making 30K paid $8400 in taxes under Clinton; under Bush $4500. A married couple making 60K: under Clinton $16,800, under Bush $9000. So Hillary/Obamaspeak, an economic strategy that left our Nation in a RECESSION on the Clinton's departure from the White House, would damage the poor more then any other group. One can summarize this quite simply by noting that IF Hillary and Obama's Marxist philosophies of soaking the rich were valid, Communist societies throughout the world would be exorbitantly wealthy, in lieu of economic basket cases a' la Castro's Cuba. The same can be said of their forced plan for Socialized Medicine. A program which is failing miserably in such Nations as Canada and the United Kingdom. Canada, as just one example, is now experiencing a dramatic shortfall in physicians. Greg Neubeck

LOL, the 'rats have really painted themselves into a corner. First, your dumbbehinds anointed Hitlery, and that was supposed to be a done deal. But then, blacks decided it was "their" turn and a bunch of far-left pseudo-radical, pseudo-intellectual limousine lefties jumped in and fed the beast. Obama is going to lose to McCain. There are not and never will be enough dumb people in this country to vote a radical socialist into the White House, but the 'rat party doesn't know how to say "no" to the black contingent within the party and still keep them pacified as they have been for forty years. If Obama gets the nomination, he loses the race to McCain, not because of his skin color (or he wouldn't have become so popular to begin with), but because of his far, far left position along the political spectrum And if Hitlery steals the nomination, which she is trying desperately to do, black voters will, in large part, stay home on election day, giving the win to McCain again.

Y'all should have stuck with Hitlery in the first place, as it turns out.

I knew Obama would self-destruct.

It's usually the repubs who do such stupid things. What a breath of fresh air to see the socialist party doing it for a change.

I agree with you. Hillary does want to move the goalpost. But like I said, rules have never stopped the Democrats before, so this is no suprise to me. Hillary is short of delegates. But he problem for Obama is, he outspent Hillary 3 to 1 in Pennsylvania and he couldn't seal the deal. Hillary has won most of the battleground states, yet Obama has most of the delegates. This puts the Democrats in a very difficult position.

If Obama can't seal the deal with such a huge advantage in cash, that brings doubts in the superdelegates minds. What do the Dems do? And lets not forget the elitist impression, and Michelle Obama saying this is the 1st time she's proud of her country, and Wright running his mouth off.

The real battleground in a presidential election are the independents. Obama, though he had early momentum with his hope and uniter image, has not become just another politician. I submit the early momentum is desceptive. He won all those early states before people knew anything about him other than the image he crafted for himself.

Obama is damaged, and as is now often repeated, he may ultimately limp into the nomination, which will mean he may become quite embarrased in November.

For those that think that women will not vote for Obama over McCain in the general election, why? Yes, they support HRC for now, they would like to see a female President, in the end though, bereft of that choice, they will vote for the candidate that will continue to fight for their right to choose, get out of the war, helath care for their kids and a better education.

Someone started the whole chicken thing, by just stating "I love chicken," or something to that effect. To me, that was their way of saying, "These senators' endorsements and all these comments, and all the bickering is pointless." Of course, more likely, they were just having some fun by posting something nonsensical. In any event, I joined in because - whether making the first statement, or just being nonsensical, it seemd like a way to get a laugh. If it brightened your day, it probably had that effect on others as well.

Enjoy some chicken and cheese (and maybe some toast too).

I have no idea why so many dems insist that people who support Obama drank punch and worship some ridiculous "messiah". It is really quite simple-

every time he opens his mouth, he is articulating thoughts I've had while suffering and being in abject misery during the Bush years (something we Democrats all have in common). That kind of stupidity is palpable, people.
I am not brainwashed, I am an educated white person with a PhD who can think for myself, thank you.

I am thankful to the Clintons and all they have done for the democrats, but she is polarizing and will have a heck of a time being effective in the White House. And, more importantly, I don't like the idea of our presidency being handed between two families from 1988 to 2012- 24 friggin' years people!

This isn't about hating Hilary, this is about wanting to support something new and revolutionary, and after the hell we have all endured since 2000, II think a clean break from the past is in order.

BTW: All the BS about him losing the general is a silly. If that is true, it is because of this ridiculous race dividing the party, which is a strong argument that the democratic party truly isn't fit to govern from the White House.

All this whining is silly boobery...

Why no media pushback on all of these Obama Supe Delegates that represent State Hillary won? It seems like the media played up the fact that Clinton had the support of black lawmakers but how could they possibly remain with her when Obama wins their state? Well, Kerry, Kennedy, Duval Patrick, this yogel from New Mexico along with Richardson plus countless other spineless lawmakers. When is the media pushback coming for Bob Casey to support who his constituents supported in the Primary? I won't hold my breath for that or the narrative, "IS OBAMA GOING TO DESTROY THE PARTY BY NOT NAMING HILLARY HIS VP? IS HIS EGO WORTH MORE TO HIM THAN THE 49.5% OF DEMOCRATIC VOTERS THAT HAVE VOTED FOR HILLARY? WHEN WILL HE END THIS THING AND NAME HILLARY HIS VP?" Hillary is a closet Republican. She is more to the right than her centrist husband. It is the greatest scam of all time that she is running as a Democrat. Let's get a few things straight--Obama did not set the rules about FLA and MI. He followed the rules. Hillary now doesn't like the rules SHE AGREED TO and now wants to change them. So, stop whining about those two states, ok? Second, Hillary's so-called support from blue collar white voters is a dog whistle for racism. They don't really like her but she is the "lesser of the two evils" (a la Rendell) and they will vote for McCain in the general election. Third, why won't she tell us what she plans to do with Bill in the White House, besides keep him away from her female staff. And I resent the fact that the monitor for this site allows posters to swear. God damn America is not ok but you can say FU to me? No double standards please.

Darryl,

Didn't mean to use your name ... mistyped - my apologies.

The rules were already in place - Hillary just wants to move the goal post because she's in an unsurmountable place with her lack of delegates.

She's doing the Democratic party no favors right now. Her delirium with power-lust is clouding any common sense. But it's to be expected - this is the moment she's been waiting for - this is the reason she stayed hitched to Bill ... all for this chance.

It's just too close to call. And with all this, Obama's, ex-pastor keeps running his mouth, keeping controversy stirred up!

The Democrats are in a tough spot. Dean is calling on one of the candidates to "quit" by June, which ain't gonna happen! Unless something unforseen occurs, this will go into the convention, and that's where the real fun starts.

No-one wants to invite eight years of their anger by siding with Obama and then having her as the nominee. So they are waiting for him to 'close the deal'. The real problem is that Obama is a damaged candidate limping into the general election. He does not have the "messianic" qualities that so many of you fell for in the beginning. Once you peel back that layer, there is not much left. Same ol' tired policies of race and class warfare. Then again...I might be a "typical" white person clinging to my guns and religion.

A bigger issue is that the media is interfering in our election process by selectively targeting candidates for abuse and character assassination that don't represent the corporate agenda. We don't need to be distracted by our internal bickering while our candidates are being destroyed by corporate main stream media hit men. Let's address this problem head-on together and we may find common ground in other areas. We can start by letting the MSM hear our voices and taking punitive action. I am boycotting ABC and Disney Theme Parks, and selling all Main Stream Media Stocks in my portfolio. Let's work together; please talk with your friends. The important thing is to do something that will get their attention. It would be great if there was a way to coordinate efforts but in the interim I am taking independent action.

Perhaps the aquiescence to this Senator's brash refusal to honor the will of his constituents will hold when the superdelegates put Sen Clinton over the top in June. Somehow I doubt Sen Obama's supporters will display such consistency.

Say bye bye to your murderous, abortion-loving, anti-Christian, pro-terrorist, pro-defeatist, socialist party, filthy libs!

To quote Gene Wilder:

"YOU GET NOTHING! YOU LOSE! GOOD DAY, SIR!"

I think it has been so much fun watching the Democratic party 'self destruct'.

And Loud mouth Dean continue to "demand" one of them drop out! He is gutless! Onward Hillary..

Of course the two independent members of the Seante are not super delegates to the convention. Thus, they cannot help nominate either candidate directly.

Obama = toast.

Wake up dummies, Obama is accumulating more daily baggage than that new hanger at Heathrow! He is not just going to lose in the general election, he is going to get CRUSHED!

I'm tired of the supporters of Clinton and Obama who say that if their candidate doesn't win the nomination that they will either stay home on election day or worse, vote for McCain. The party needs to come together behind the nominee regardless of who it is.

Maria Cantwell asked to be removed from Clinton's list over a month ago.

The list on here on "The Trail" is not updated AT ALL.

Senator Obama has the support of eighteen (18) U.S. Senators, not 15.

The Dem party has lost me - too weak, too scared, and to self centered.

When has a party supported a person who "big up" a GOP and put down another Dem member? The Dem leaders never publicly went off on her for that.

With such little spine in the Dems membering body I look forward to my new party - Independent!

And the SD's are the worst - dragging this bull out under the false pretense of democracy!

Since Ohio, Obama has received more than 10 times the number of super delegate endorsements and he needs less than half the remaining delegates to secure the nomination. Obama had the better campaign strategy, better ground organization and better message.

It's over Hilary. You ran a heckuva campaign, though.

Thanks for the list.
I am going to hold them all accountable because Obama isn't going to win the general election. A demographic Democrats need is women, and the media bias and good old boys in Washington have interfered enough. Clump that together with the offended voters from Mi and FL and Obama isn't going to make it.
