Obama's Lobbying Contradiction

Jeffrey H. Birnbaum reports, in a story now online: "The co-director of Barack Obama's presidential campaign in Puerto Rico is a Washington-based federal lobbyist for the government of Puerto Rico.

"Ethics watchdogs said that the high-profile role of Francisco J. Pavía appears to contradict the Obama campaign's ethics guidelines, which forbid federal lobbyists from working on staff. But Obama spokesman Bill Burton said Pavía is an 'active volunteer' -- not a paid staffer -- and can hold the job without running afoul of the campaign's rules."

I have lived in this country for 54 years I have heard seen and lived through some awful conditions. But I made it thus far with Gods help, here we are in 2008 the things shown and said in the news is a sorry state of affairs I see the young ones act like the adults with all the racial silliness going around and the adults act like a bunch of spoilled kids, that want everything and compromise nothing. I thought about the religous redoric being spued like everyone got a patent on God, if he came back to day he would be shunned by the same ones that clamed they are Christians. When Christ walked the earth he didn't have a so called pile of wood to worship in he walked amongst the least ones he also said what you do to the least you do to me.We have gotten so self righteous we wouldn't know a good deed or love for one another if it bit us.There is a day of reckoning for all of us, but what I'm proud of is God not man will judge all of us (just).

The Republicans are excellent at giving negative "buzz words" that people grab on to instead of checking facts. They need to read for themselves instead of listening to the what the opposition tells themto believe. The character of a candidate should be learned by ALL of their works. Didn't anyone learn anything from the two farce Bush elections. Everything the Republicans said about the opposition was what they themselves were actually doing.
Too late did the Bush voters find out that what Bush accomplished was bought by lies. I am so disappointed that so much of this blog seems to be written by KKK members. Look for the positives instead of resorting to sound bites.

Obama is just another politician, what else can he be. He is the weaker of the two candidates and the Republicans want him on the Democrat ticket so they can stay in power. The old dogs of Washington are should not fall into this trap. Have Obama wait in line to mature and be president next in 8 years.

Obama is a hypsorite and has been packaged by his handlers to say the right things to get into office. Hopefully the country will realize that he is not trustworthy befoer it's too late. This is just a little piece of it.

Wow Rugman. You are a sad, sad person.

If "saddam Obama" (you truly are, the stupidest person I've ever responded to on this) should have to fight, then we all should. There should be a draft. If you chose to fight and you're angry at Obama because he didn't, you should write your congressperson and have them introduce draft legislation. I'll help you write the letter since you clearly have no knowledge of punctuation, grammar, spelling or sentence structure.

But here's where your argument delves into the legitimately deluded. You first claim that Obama (saddam obama - way to show your racist colors) should be FORCED to fight for this country, (that's a type of conscription not used in the US since the Civil war by the way.) Then you say he should be kicked out to go live with "his uncle." So which is it, should he fight for the country and then get kicked out? That's a real good way to treat veterans and an excellent enticement to join the military.

Grow up. Read a book. I'm impressed however you were able to finish reading both paragraphs of this story. Do you know what a Puerto Rico is?

How many know that Obama voted YES to the Cheney Energy Bill that would create the installation of 20 some new nuclear power plants in the U.S.?

How many know that Clinton voted against the Cheney Energy bill?

Ho many would like a nuclear power plant near their house?

Jeffrey H. Birnbaum...am I missing something here?

Francisco J. Pavía is a Washington-based federal lobbyist for the government of Puerto Rico? How does Pavia lobby for the Government of Puerto Rico which is a part of the US?

This blog mentioning the lobby-tie doesn't make much sense.

Obama- a different kind of dirty politician.

Posted by: greenfun | May 28, 2008 11:09 PM | Report abuse

This is one of those "wink, wink," tricks that are so pervasive in the Obama campaign. Must be one of those cute tricks he learned in Chicago from all those "good fellas' in politics in Illinois.

Geez People! GET A CLUE!

McCain had a supporter cash in on BILLIONS because of a slight intervention in a Real-Estate Deal!

I'll work for "Free" for a similar "Arrangement"!

NO CONGRESSMEN IN THE WHITE HOUSE! Please!

Posted by: SAINT---The | May 28, 2008 8:31 PM | Report abuse

Obviously, having lobbyists volunteer for your campaign is vastly superior and completely different from paying them.
Everybody knows that.

Posted by: Anonymous | May 28, 2008 8:19 PM | Report abuse

Folks, Please, before it is waaaayyyyy too late, let's all think outside the Box(Beltway).

There is a VERY good reason all THREE Current Contenders STINK TO HIGH HEAVEN! :-(

THEY, are Dead Weight associated with a Congress with 11% Approval! :-(

Pick from a Festering Rotten Barrel of CRUD;

And Guess what you are liable to Get?!

Mitt Romney and Huckabee with Bloomberg, Alan Keyes, Dr. Ron Paul, Giuliani, Tancredo, Thompson and other Beltway OUTSIDERS in the Cabinet, and other Executive Posts!

Sorry Dims, but ALL of your Choices except Bill Richardson(Who BTW could be welcome!), are Insiders!

Congress is the Enemy(Aside from a very, very Small few!).

Want CHANGE?

Here is a CLUE-Stay a Thousand Miles away from Congress!

Posted by: SAINT---The | May 28, 2008 8:19 PM | Report abuse

Obama has no paid staffers that are registered lobbiests. This person doesn't violate his standards. This is in huge contrast to McCain who has energy lobbiests working on his energy policy. VERY different situation.

Posted by: Krissy | May 28, 2008 7:43 PM | Report abuse

Love you, Barack, but your lobbyist needs to go! Even if unpaid, if he's working for you in any capacity, this violates the rules you set for your campaign.

You can find someone else to do his work.

Posted by: Susan | May 28, 2008 7:23 PM | Report abuse

This connection is pretty tenuous. Pavin is an unpaid volunteer and has no role in policy. Consider the contrast with Phil Graham, who is the lobbyist authoring John McCain's economic policies. As a Senator, Graham authored the Gramm-Leach-Bliley Act, which removed the depression era regulation that would have prevented the subprime mortgage meltdown. Promptly after deregulating the banks Graham retired from the Senate and took a position lobbying for UBS Bank. And this is the guy that McCain wants to make Secretary of the Treasury. Talk about wolves in the hen house.

If it's a choice between the two, I'll take Obama's loose associations with lobbyists over McCain's plans to staff his administration with the worst of them.
