Big Name, Small Buy for MoveOn's Latest Anti-McCain Ad

By Ed O'Keefe
MoveOn has recruited a big Hollywood name for its latest TV ad, but is not spending big bucks on getting the word out. Actor John Cusack fronts "Betcha Can't Tell Them Apart," a 30-second spot critical of John McCain's stance on Iraq, veteran's health care, Social Security and the past lobbying work of some of his senior aides.

The group is spending only $45,000 to air the message nationally during prime time on the Bravo network, as well as in the Washington, D.C., market during local cable ad breaks on CNN and MSNBC, and during "The Daily Show" on Comedy Central, according to a MoveOn source.

Given the group's base of support among liberals, its choice of networks makes sense. Bravo is home to shows such as "Top Chef," "Project Runway," and "Work Out," all popular with younger viewers, especially women. CNN and MSNBC are preferred cable news outlets among liberals, and "The Daily Show" is a natural fit, as the home of some of the president's most assiduous critics.

This ad is a continuation of MoveOn's efforts to tie McCain to President Bush. This message hits airwaves as McCain suggested earlier today that the timing of troop withdrawals from Iraq is "not too important."

I'm NEVER watching another 'cursack' film again!

Soros, moveon.org and Cusack(to name a few) are all just nutty liberals.

May god bless them.

All one needs to do when faced with any decision or political policy is simply ask 'Where does Hollywood stand on this'...then promptly go the other route.

In the true "arena of ideas" spirit, may I suggest a quiz for Cusack? Let's see if he has the fortitude to step into the area sans talking points, with only his knowledge of the issues at hand for company.

I'll start things off with a couple of quiz questions...

1) Who cast a vote endorsing abortionists' ability to kill children in the birth canal?

2) Who tries to convince Americans we should legitimize rogue regimes and terrorist sponsors by sitting down with them and asking them "pretty please" not to be quite so bloodthirsty?

"Keep talking Hollywood, your'e going to need unemployment benefits extended by siding with Moveon. I will never go to see another movie with John Cusack in it! Or any other leftist actor either.
Obama has no merits to stand on except that he can read a speech with clarity."

___

Tell me Lynn, what will you do when Obama becomes the President? leave teh country?
Then go where?

So they are spending money on ads targeting folks that will vote for Obama anyways?

How many Republican-inclined households watch "Top Chef," "Daily Show," or MSNBC?

These idiots should be targetting the independents, moderates, and undecided with their ads, not the people who will not vote for McCain anyways.

US elections: Bill and Hillary Clinton draw up list of 'enemies'
By Alex Spillius in Washington

I wonder if moveon.org is on the Clintons' enemies list.

Instead of reviewing their mistakes, the Clintons are blaming those who put the country before the Clintons. They really cannot forgive Richardson as they think that, without them, Richardson would not have had today as Governor. In other words, they despise Richardson to begin with. THey don't respect him to begin with. They think Richardson is less than they are as a person to begin with. Another lie about Clinton's respect for blacks and Hispanics! The Clintons cannot be respected, because they don't respect others as equals human beings.

It seems the Clinton machinery is oiled by favors. I do this for you and you will do that for me, no matter what the favor will do to the country. That's why this machinery is so powerful and that's why they are so detrimental to the US.
Thanks to all those that voted out Hillary!
No more Clinton or Bush anywhere near the White House!

The spend and borrow Republicans have destroyed our economy with their circular policy. War debt>devalued dollar>higher oil prices>negative balance of trade>$$$ to the oil Sheiks>$$$ to placate Wahabis>>>>$$$ to Al-Quaida!!!! >>>War with Al-Quaida in wrong place (Iraq) to placate and divert attention form the Saudis>Back to square one!!!!!

It's the war stupid!!!!!!!!!!

Great work, but not as good as the picture of McCain resting his head on the chest of a smiling Dubya. Resurrect that pic and put it everywhere but loose.

Simple....to the point...and true...unlike the flip flopper McNasty.

Posted by: Truman | June 11, 2008 10:56 PM

ATLEAST THEIR ADS OR ON THE REAL ISSUES AND NOT TO SMEAR MCCAIN. WHAT HE SAID ARE THE FACTS. THE GOP HAVE TO RELY ON SMEAR AND SCARE TACTICS BECAUSE OF THIS. I HOPE THE AMERICAN PEOPLE REALLY DO WANT TO MOVE IN A NEW DIRECTION WITH OBAMA 09

Posted by: JERRY | June 11, 2008 10:25 PM

The interesting thing with John Mccain is, to bash him all you have to do is tell the truth. No innuendo required.

Posted by: Anonymous | June 11, 2008 8:37 PM

True, but not very clever

Posted by: Anonymous | June 11, 2008 8:35 PM

What is next? I picture Lili Taylor next singing: "John lies!! John lies!! John lies... when he cries!!".

Perhaps Barack Obama running an ad where he moves a pile of glass from in front of Michelle.
