While Fundraising, Bush Mounts Attack on Obama

By Dan Eggen
LIVONIA, Mich. -- President Bush came to suburban Detroit Wednesday to mount a clear attack on Sen. Barack Obama, though he never actually mentioned the Democratic candidate's name.

Instead, Bush suggested through red-meat GOP rhetoric that Obama was just another liberal Democrat intent on raising taxes and retreating from Iraq. He also told GOP supporters at a $750,000 fundraiser here that Sen. John McCain (R-Ariz.) "has been tested and will not flinch" from making the tough decisions required of a president.

"We need a commander-in-chief who understands that we must defeat the enemy overseas so we do not have to face him here at home, and that man is John McCain," Bush said during the speech at the Max M. Fisher National Republican Award Dinner, named for a prominent Michigan GOP official.

The 20-minute speech was a relatively rare public fundraising event for Bush, whose 29 GOP fundraisers this year have generally been held inside private homes. The speech also underscores Bush's increasing engagement with the presidential campaign after months in which he and his aides have sought to keep him above the fray.

Bush has taken few if any concerted jabs at Obama, at least by name. Comments by Bush in May, comparing those who would talk to extremist groups with Nazi appeasers, were widely seen as an attack on Obama, though the White House said it was not intended as such.

At Laurel Manor in suburban Livonia, Bush laid out a traditional Republican attack on Democrats and, by extension, Obama, accusing them of seeking to raise taxes, support liberal judges and go wobbly on terrorism and the Iraq war.

"The Democratic Party has consistently shown they would take America in the wrong direction," Bush told the crowd of about 325.

The only mention of Obama during the entire event came from Michigan Attorney General Mike Cox, who attempted a joke in which he argued that media outlets had portrayed the presumptive Democratic nominee as Jesus Christ.

"Apparently Barack Obama was born in a manger," Cox said. "...Whether there was any room at the inn, I don't know."

The slave owners and robber barons of old are back -- now they are called neo-conservatives. Neocons are the businessmen and politicians that control the Republican Party. They use deceit to get people hurt by their policies to vote for them. Since they took control of both houses of Congress and the White House, many are realizing that the Republican Party's business agenda is bad for most Americans. The Republican code words, "freedom" and "small government", actually mean helping business fleece the public and plunder our natural resources. Let's take back our democracy in November!

Loud mouth liberals make me sick. Change is the only thing you here from Obama. Change, change, change. Change what? Obama couldn't change my socks. You want to talk Iraq? I know several marines and others who have served in Iraq. The general consensus is that if they leave, everything they have accomplished will definately be a wasted effort. Violence is down 80% in the region but you dont here that from the leftist media. That doesn't get the ratings. Tell a soldier what they've worked so hard for and risked their life for is a worthless and wasted effort. I dare you. Obama is the typical young blood wanna be hot shot with no experience to back all the rhetoric that is spilling from his mouth. Any one who has studied politics knows what Chicago politicians are famous for, and its not for being outstanding members of society. The democrats are also known for something else, self destructing so Im just gonna watch the show. So watch your CNN and let them tell you what to think. Get a real candidate and forget about the Clinton years its over guys. I will leave you with this, "Its not that liberals are ignorant, its just what they know is wrong." -Ronald Reagan

And where have we heard this before? "We have to fight them over there so we don't have to fight them here." Seems like there was another war where that was the mantra, too. Gosh - I am 71 and I don't remember having to fight "them" over here!

The Republicans and their supporters are so desperate that all they can do is smear and issue hate words and messages. They have nothing positive to say about themselves or how to move the country forward. They are mired in the abyss created by Bush and promised into the next four (4) years by McSame. Democrats appreciate that your brand is badly damaged but do you REALLY think your negative, racist, ignorant rants really enhance your standing?

Keep it up please. So America can see exactly what the Republican and right wing brand represents and brings to our nations problems. We appreciate all your help!

The fact that Barrack Obama and his baby mamma Michelle only recently resigned from Trinity is a campaign tactic. To know the real Obama, read below what Obama never, ever objected to:

THIS presidential race is about race and BLACK racism. Let the race begin!

Barrack HUSSEIN Obama's church for over 20 years, the BLACK Trinity United Church of Christ adopted the BLACK Value System written by the Manford Byrd Recognition Committee chaired by Vallmer Jordan in 1981. They believe in the following 12 precepts and covenantal statements. These BLACK Ethics must be taught and exemplified in homes, churches, nurseries and schools, wherever BLACKS are gathered. They must reflect on the following concepts:

1. Commitment to God
2. Commitment to the BLACK Community
3. Commitment to the BLACK Family
4. Dedication to the Pursuit of Education
5. Dedication to the Pursuit of Excellence
6. Adherence to the BLACK Work Ethic
7. Commitment to Self-Discipline and Self-Respect
8. Disavowal of the Pursuit of "Middleclassness"
9. Pledge to make the fruits of all developing and acquired skills available to the BLACK Community
10. Pledge to Allocate Regularly, a Portion of Personal Resources for Strengthening and Supporting BLACK Institutions
11. Pledge allegiance to all BLACK leadership who espouse and embrace the BLACK Value System
12. Personal commitment to embracement of the BLACK Value System

When someone like Bush that's done such a poor job - economy, elected war, over a trillion dollars wasted while our infrastructure is falling apart, lives lost for no reason - attacks a person. It tells me that person must be pretty smart and that Bush and his cheating/lying buddies are afraid of that person. Afraid that they'll do a good job as president thereby amplifying what a terrible president Bush has been. They had their 8 years now they'll pay for the Bush presidency for years to come!

Here is a link to John Mc-Crooks illegal fundraising activities of November and December of 2007. And he's accusing Obama of flip flopping on something? McCain has flip flopped so much on issues the past few months he looks like a bobblehead doll.

If littlecommonsense is right and each President's performance is a proxy of the previous POTUS, then God forbid the next one for he will have to deal with the decisions of this administrtion!! Basically this is a hypothesis (if you can call it that) which is full of you know what! There's a saying "The Buck Stops Here" prominently displayed in the Oval Office for a very good reason. And that is you don't point the finger at previous administrations and cry "It's all their fault".

We have the Clintons to thank for the messes that we are in at the moment. And for those of you that didn't pay attention in history class - a bill does not get put into action the next day. The current president always rides on the previous president's mistakes! So as Clinton (a demonacrat-I remind you) was sleeping with the enemy - this is why we are at wall and I don't want it brought home!@

David cried:

"Obama supporters. Your unconditional support for Barack is dangerous to this American Democracy. Eight years of that type of unwavering, unquestioning support has got us into the predicament we are now in. Stand back, and question this man - he is a man you know. How are you going to feel when Obama starts talking about himself in the third person? He's already started down the path of delusion - he's got his own freakin' Presidential Seal. This stuff is scary."
____________

BOO!

I love this! You don't know how to handle people who are actually enthusiastic about a candidate, so you babble on about "unconditional support" and "unquestioning" and blah, blah, blah and pretend like we aren't aware that Obama is a politician who is trying to win.

Sorry to break it to you David, but I support Obama because I agree more with hin on the issues than I do McBush and the Republicans. I don't agree with Obama on everything. I am disappointed with his position on FISA, for example, but he is still the better candidate by far and I will absolutely vote for him in November.

Obama's candidacy is the most powerful expression of American democracy I've seen in my lifetime, and it only scares you because you will lose. Ha ha.

GO OBAMA!

I think that callous, self-centered, arrogant and incompetent little liar George W. Bush needs to shut his trap. You'd have to be a FOOL to reward the Republicans with another four years in the White House after eight years of criminal violations of law, oath and ethics. The whole party deserves to die on the basis of this administration's undermining of the constitution and the processes and services of the government, OUR government. The FAKE PATRIOT REPUBLICANS have been the WORST and MOST DESTRUCTIVE administration in the history of this country. They deserve impeachment and criminal prosecution, not a third term.

George,

Please, just go! Don't look back, don't wave. Just go!

I almost don't care who gets elected. The greatest sigh of relief will be in knowing that you are out of there.

It's time for our country to free itself of this, "fear of our own" you perpetuate.

Don't even say "good bye." Just get some where and shut up!

No wonder republicans are switching over look at his approval rating and his record on balancing the budget (if nothing else)Hey Karl, you better hide him in the White House closet until after election ..you might loose Congress for a generation...

I have a lot of professional respect for Senator Clinton. And I have a lot of personal respect for the Bush's.

Should the Bush's cross the line this campaign cycle, they will be exposed for everything they have done.

The Bush people are smart enough to know that this election is a done deal the other way.

McCain put the W. Coke thing around, and the Bush people put the McCain bastard black child thing around.

It doesn't have to get that nasty this time, no new information needs to come out.

Just let it go...

Like George Bush has any idea in the world of how to be an effective commander in chief. Lie to Congress and the public to get an unholy and unlawful authorization to go to war, gin up the stats to make it look better, detain thousands illegally -- torture them and create new legions of terrorists and, btw, leave the biggest terrorist of all out there roaming the world. So George -- please. We have no interest in YOUR opinion about what makes an effective in Commander in Chief. You clearly ditched that class.

Posted by: straight talk my a** | June 26, 2008 3:02 AM

I fogot to mention that Senator Obama just created a big hole by supporting the compromised FISA--it is not a flip-flop but compromise about something he claimed he has stood for.

Posted by: peace4world | June 26, 2008 2:49 AM

I understand people hate Bush due to the Iraq War, which I oppose as well, yet his approach--standing by his principles--is correct. His two-term presidency was possible with the help of the Democractic Party--not help but "compromise."

I am an Independent just looking at who has a sound policy and who stands by his/her words spoken. Again words are words, a commitment that you can't change. You can change your positions, but words and principles can't be changed.

Posted by: peace4world | June 26, 2008 2:44 AM

Thank you Mr Bush, we are happy for you to reassure us that Obama is different than you.

Posted by: Mark Azoff | June 26, 2008 2:42 AM

Bush better start watching where he goes especially when he leaves office. I just heard Vincent Bugliosi speak about his book "The Prosecution of George W. Bush for Murder". Vincent Bugliosi received his law degree in 1964. In his career at the L.A. County District Attorney's office, he successfully prosecuted 105 out of 106 felony jury trials, including 21 murder convictions without a single loss. This book is different than some others because he wants to take Bush to criminal court. There is no statute of limitations on murder.

Why is all the news about Obama. Every thing Obama says or does is under a telescope and Mccain is still getting a free ride. Nobody today spoke of Mccain talking of a draft today if we were confronted on an all out world war 3. Why hasn't anybody wrote about that especially since Israel is talking about striking Iran. I can't believe none of you journalist mentioned it at all since World War 3 may not be far away.

Too bad Americans are calling Bush the worst president in U.S. history. I'm pretty sure they won't want his opinions on anything.

Posted by: Playa | June 25, 2008 11:21 PM

Both Republicans and Democrats, as parties and individual members, have caused a lot of harm to our country. George Washington regretted the day when we would push a party line instead of working for what was best for our society. Think about the good of the American people, not of the parties that run our country. Then make judgements about the politics of those who run for president, act as president, or support any election campaign.

Posted by: Brian Walker | June 25, 2008 11:19 PM

The Shrub drew a crowd of about 325 and raised $750,000. Popular guy, amongst the Party (misguided) faithful. Such a turnout ranks consistent with his current 23% popularity. This is hardly a person who can address the topic of successful leadership. Pathetic!!

Posted by: Lou R | June 25, 2008 11:19 PM

Yes give me more BUSH! I "love" BUSH! {MAJOR SARCASM!!}

The more Bush chimes in on the 2008 presidential election the more it helps Obama and hurts McCain. Even in this Michigan Republican fundraiser, Bush links McCain to himself. Per Bush "[McCain] has been tested and will not flinch" from making the tough decisions required of a president.

When Bush and McCain are linked, especially concerning Iraq, Obama and the Democrats will jump all over McCain for being essentially a guy named "McBush".

Didn't anybody tell Bush that 10 Americans have died since Monday June 23rd with a total 27 dead Americans since June 1st.

man if Bush was so good with national defense why was the war handled so poorly? Why didn't the troops have the supplies they needed? Oh yeah. Rummy told them to deal with the army they got. Yeah. That's a great way to treat our men un uniform!! Oh and why is McCain voting against educating our troops when they get back? And what the F is wrong with discussing a timetable for bringing our troops home?? And who decided it was a good idea to outsource our army? I want our troops fighting for the US not for Blackwater. This whole thing is BS. We're on to ya Bush. You ruined the GOP and those of us that believe in this country WILL vote democrat so that you can be clear we need a new direction. I have been listening to the argument that republicans are good on national security. But I beg to differ. In my opinion if republicans were so good on national security why did 09/11 happen in the first place. Let us not forget that happened on their watch the first time ever we have been attacked on our soil it happened under the republicans watch. And I am not willing to give the benefit of the doubt when it comes to national security failure that cost americans their lives within our borders. And now they are wishing for a terrorist attack to boost their ambitions. Now isn't that something. Something to make you think about 09/11

Americans who are fed up with this government need to file criminal charges instead of making comments against george bush and his cohorts, every member of congress and members of the military for war crimes and crimes against humanity. Let the white house, congress and the military know in no uncertain terms that they do not have immunity nor exemption from prosecution for war crimes, crimes against humanity, and violations of national and international laws. We have the right to overthrow this government, by force if necessary so pass the word and become the new johnny rebs. Tell the military and george bush that we will not tolerate any stationing of troops in iraq or any other ountries. Inform congress that we will not recognize george bush's attempt to impose a SOFA upon iraq or allow our oil companies back in iraq.

President George Walker Bush is sad, pathetic
and totally delusional when it comes to him fully understanding what he and his lying Administration have done to the United States. The spoilt little Frat Boy of a President has never been held accountable for any of his screwups that he has done in his life.

To attack Barrack Obama and not think what he has done and the blood that he has on his hands of over 4,100 dead young American soldiers and over 100,000 Iraqi's, "SHAME ON YOU PRESIDENT GEORGE WALKER BUSH." Hopefully if George Walker Bush is not charged as the War Criminal that he is that his judgment day will be upon his death when he realizes that he will go to the abyss in Hell and not the Kingdom of Heaven as God will not allow him to enter.

YOU ARE NOT POPULAR. EVERY TIME YOU SPEAK ITS BAD FOR MCCAIN. BY TALKING YOU ONLY FURTHER DAMAGE YOURSELF AND YOUR PARTY. WHILE WE'RE AT IT PLEASE DON'T TALK AT ALL ABOUT THE MARKET . THE STOCK MARKET HAS FALLEN FAR ENOUGH . AND PLEASE ALSO. DON'T TALK ABOUT IRAN EITHER BECAUSE OIL PRICES ARE ALREADY TOO HIGH .

FOR THE SAKE OF THE COUNTRY , JUST DON'T SAY ANYTHING AT ALL TO ANYBODY. THEN MAYBE WE'LL MAKE IT TO JAN 20 08 WITHOUT WREAKING THE ECONOMY AND WITH LESS DEAD PEOPLE.

YOU CAN STOP READING NOW GEORGE.

IS THIS THE SAME GEORGE BUSH WHO ILLEGALLY WIRETAPS U.S. CITIZENS, AND ASKS FOR IMMUNITY?

IS THIS THE SAME GEORGE BUSH THAT SAID WE'LL GIVE YOU FEMA HELP NEW ORLEANS?

IS THIS THE SAME GEORGE BUSH THAT SAYS TO ZIMBABWE THAT MUGABE IS A SHAM, BUT YOU DON'T HAVE ANY OIL LIKE SADDAM IN IRAQ, SO YOU'RE ON YOUR OWN?

IS THIS THE SAME GEORGE BUSH WHO SET UP TORTURE AS A U.S. POLICY?

GEORGE CARLIN'S SEVEN WORDS ALL APPLY TO GEORGE BUSH THE LESSER.

JANUARY 20, 2009 -- THE END OF AN ERROR!

'I killed Iraqi women and children, and tortured and humiliated Iraqi men', Bush noted. Plus my wife Laura ran over and killed her ex-boyfriend, Michael Douglas, in 1963.

So Bush gets no news headlines for insulting our teens of this proud nation?

Your kidding me right? This guy has dimmed their future and he has a nerve to insult them?

Oh media... Oh Media... Where is your outcry???

If this had been Obama there would have been cries of him being out of touch and this and that.

We are finding out almost weekly how this country should have impeached this guy a long time ago. I wouldn't be surprised if he didn't launch an attack on Iran at the last moment and have our proud Americans suck it all in once again like he did with Iraq.

Sad.

You go George. Every time you open your mouth, the market goes down. Now that you open your mouth and trash Obama, McCain's popularity will do the same.

Obama '08

The Republican Party has consistently shown they would take America for all they can.

Posted by: Truth | June 25, 2008 7:51 PM

Says Bush, McCain "has been tested and will not flinch" from making the tough decisions required of a president.

Old Bush Hugger certainly didn't flinch when joining his benefactor in touting big new tax cuts for the wealthiest (which McSame had first opposed), in drilling off the coasts of Florida and California, among other coastal states, and while backing away from his commitment to reforming immigration.

Woohoo! If Bush doesn't like him, he must be good for america!!

Posted by: Sally | June 25, 2008 7:48 PM

I don't know how everyone can keep comparing McCain to Bush. Bush was born into money, McCain just married it.

Posted by: bob | June 25, 2008 7:44 PM

Go George! Any critism from you has to be good for Obama.

Posted by: Jimbo | June 25, 2008 7:04 PM

I thought that George W. Bush was the Devil until 'Ol Barrack Hussein came along.

GET 'EM BUSH!

We need your help to expose this dangerous man who is trying to bamboozle people with so many masks that they can't see who he really is. SHOW AMERICA WHO BARRACK HUSSEIN IS BEFORE IT IS TOO LATE! TAKE THE MASKS OFF OF THE MASTER MASK MAN!

"The Democratic Party has consistently shown they would take America in the wrong direction," Bush told the crowd of about 325.

The last time I checked, something like 80% of this country believes we're on the wrong track. That would be under President Bush's "leadership."

Pot, meet Kettle.

Bush is the world's most vile Terrorist.

Posted by: Anonymous | June 25, 2008 6:51 PM

Bush is just another Republican fascist f-pig who uses the Constitution for toilet paper. Although I doubt I will ever see it, I hope he faces justice for his crimes against humanity in general and the American people in particular.

Posted by: Electric Bill | June 25, 2008 6:41 PM

Does anyone listen to chimpy anymore? The criminal is totally discredited.
So, he can yammer all he wants but, no one is really paying attention.

Posted by: vwcat | June 25, 2008 6:39 PM

Sickening. The man creates the mess in Iraq and doesn't even bother to pay for, instead giving massive tax breaks for all of his rich friends. How stupid does he think we are?

Posted by: Ed Lynch | June 25, 2008 6:37 PM

McBush and Dubya - what a combination. Rich old white men wanting to set the rules for everyone. If you ain't Republican, then you're a traitor and a Commie. The same rhetoric as usual from the Karl Rove mud machine. And the sad part is, the Republican faithful eat it up. What a bunch of myopic characters stuck in the 1950's.
