Republicans Seek to Frame Obama as "Dr. No"

By Ed O'Keefe
In a presidential campaign that has seen its fair share of bad songs, bad parodies, and the return of Chuck Norris, we can now add a tribute to James Bond.

Repeating a slam first used earlier this week, John McCain yesterday released a Web-only ad that compares Barack Obama to the namesake of the 1962 Bond movie, "Dr. No." The Republican National Committee, echoing the message, has launched a web site emphasizing the theme and dubbing the Democratic candidate "Dr.NObama."

(No word on how the original -- and proud -- Dr. No of the 2008 cycle, Ron Paul, feels about that.)

Beyond the 1960s-era graphics and James Bond theme-style music, the ad delivers a serious punch, charging Obama with being opposed to the energy proposals that McCain has put forth in recent days, including lifting the ban on off-shore oil exploration, more electric cars, more nuclear power, and government grants for innovative energy-saving products.

Energy has been the topic of some of McCain's recent TV advertising, and he debuted another Web-only ad about energy earlier this week. But it's not clear how much the energy issue concerns voters; energy ranks low as a worry in the new Los Angeles Times-Bloomberg poll, but placed higher in a recent Post-ABC News survey.

How TOTALLY Un-Original!

Sorry Clowns, but Dr. NO, is already taken.

Dr. Ron Paul the Contrarian Supreme, has EARNED that Title!

As Chevy Chase would say:

"In Tonight's News; Barry the "Empty Suit",

is STILL, just an Empty Suit!" ;~)

I think we have had enough with Dems telling republicans yes on their giveaways to the oil companies. Finally someone tells them no.
Ohh and god pick a cultural reference from this century. Republicans are stuck in the 60's and 70's

Has anyone LOOKED at the background of this ad? Have you seen the TARGET when Obama's face comes in? This is NO accident. The ad is disgusting and McCain should immediately pull it and apologize. It's not even subliminal, it is right in your face!

ok, so Obama is one of those cool James Bond characters....

...and McCain the same as Mr. Magoo? Or maybe "Cotton" from "King of the Hill".

McCain - your lies are getting more sickening by the day.

For Thomas Jefferson of the 21.st century: Congressman Dr. Ron Paul.

He has been named Dr. No because he votes NO to every bill that is anti-constitutional, Anti-american bill in congress for the last 30 years! He has the courage and the guts.

Mr Mclame is only trying to mislead the voters and hide his baggage behind such a cheap attack-ad. This is typical Neo-con.

Mr. McSane is the worst that can happen to this country AND Mr. Obama is no better.

he stock market is crashing, the dollar is dying, the people are getting poorer and the sheeple sill don't have the courage to listen to the message of freedom, the causes and solutions brought by Dr. Paul!

Well, keep saying meaaaaaahhhh and discussing the technecalities

Republicans, Republicans, Republicans!

Stop spending your money on this kind of phony, stupid ads.

You have the advantage of national security issues with firm support from Asian Allies, along with free trade, as well as Lethal Weapon that the Supreme Court has authorized to use to protect America from the terrorists.

All of the recent rulings support John McCain's positions.

When you stop doing this stupid act and when you begin a genuine talk based on Truth, there should be a landslide support from Independents and Women who are not happy with the Democratic Party.

Just be smart, Stupid.

No most of the posters here... do some research. I am an independant, and will knock misinformation where i see it about either candidate. The "R" ad for McCain is misleading in that it suggest ( and it looks like a lot of people bought it ) that Obama is not for improving our energy future. That simply is not true. A little research proves he simply disagrees with McCains ideas to fix them. In the Senate and House you will find that over 65% disagree with one aspect or another. Many disagree on more than one. This is called politics... suggest a course of action seek out support, tweek it till enough people agree to get the bill passed.

I personally like some of McCains proposals liek nuc energy plants, and more drilling. These two are GOOD mid term solutions for our energy future. We will always need electricty, ( electric plug in cars will increse demand) and we will always need oil( it will take more than a decade to swap out gas cars for electric ones, pluse even electric cars need oil based lubrication, and tens of thousands of items use petroleum in the manufacturing process).

Unfortunatly this does nothing for the short term. Obama is calling for solor, wind and other evironmently "greener" resource, devolopement and production. Some one posted WHAT DOES THAT MEAN, do a little research. Solor and wing are naturally self renewing resources. There are millions of arces of land ripe for this typr of use. Take the 20 to 50 miles surrounding Nuc power plants that no one wants to live around... can you say solar farm. and/or if weather is favorable ... wind farm. There is no reason that you cant use them both on the same land. other examples are near power lines, on oil fields, near land fills, or around airports. Of course the most personally practical use is at home. As the Tech has improved over the last 10 years, the productivity per unit is up and the cost has come down. They are still a little pricey, but imagine installing a few panels on your roof and the storage battery in the basement or garage and getting an electric bill for 0.00$ most months and for a small amount ( what you use from them ) on months of high demand such as AC in the summer and HEAT in the winter.

most of this technology is already out there, there hundreds of homes buit in the state of CA and WA and demonstartions of GREEN communities. Part of obama's call is for the expansion of availabilty of the tech and tax incentives for the buyer( me and you )to make the investment possible for the average american.

This is a GOOD step as well as its benifits or possible within a year or two compared to a decade or more. Also it creats jobs. There is a call for the tax incentive to apply to energy production equipment MADE IN THE USA.... no out sourcing. The investment is not really larger as someone suggested. do you have any idea what it cost to build a NUC plant... let along 10 to 20 in the next 25 years.

either way comparing the plans is like comparing apples to oranges, when America needs a fruit basket. ( no pun intented, sorry couldn't help it).

Baylor, Arizona State? Thanks for the laugh dude. The public school system in Texas comes nowhere close to the UCLAs and Berkeleys in Cali. Don't hate the 'libruls' because they're smarter. "University of Phoenix"...enough said.

Posted by: Playa | June 26, 2008 3:08 PM

"That's why both McCain and Bush come from states with huge uneducated populations and no good colleges."

Texas and Arizona? It is not like they come from Alabama and Kentucky. I can think of at least four very good schools in Texas (U of Texas, Texas A&M, Baylor, and SMU) and two in Arizona (U of A, Arizona St.) off the top of my head. Texas is one of the top public universities in the country, and Texas A&M is well known for its contributions in science and engineering. Arizona State has one of the highest numbers of National Merit Scholars in the country (It is behind another university from a state with an "uneducated population", Oklahoma). It is amazing that the left believes that the flyover states are filled with uneducated rednecks when many of the country's major research institutions are in the flyover states. Also, the top schools for the subject of this debate (ENERGY!) are all located in places like Oklahoma and Texas.

Yes Jimbo...the left are the ones living in fantasy land, when it was McCain who wants to spend $300 million on something he read in a science fiction magazine, and Bush will send a man to Mars. That's why both McCain and Bush come from states with huge uneducated populations and no good colleges.

The McCain campaign was absolutely brilliant in choosing Dr. No to compare Barack NObama to. What could be more apt than a genius mixed-race nuclear scientist who seems to be stuck in the 1960s?

It's a good thing the McCain campaign are taking the high road with their witty comparisons that avoid racial dog-whistles. Go McCain!

This is incredible.

Dr. No was way more productive and forward thinking that Sen Obama could ever be.

Obama's more like one of the thinly crafted villains of the Timothy Dalton period.

Hey, "Playa", I wouldn't be so fast to make fun of John McCain for his brilliant $300 million car battery contest. John McCain is doing his part to save taxpayers money, and that includes his energy proposals. Auto manufacturers have already spent billions developing electric and hybrid car technologies, and $300 million is less than the US spends in one day in Iraq. By making sure that Japanese car companies continue to have the advantage and incentives to lead US automakers in electric and hybrid technology, and inspiring handymen in their garages to tinker with electric golf carts, John McCain's energy solutions are far more economical than those of Barack Obama, whom the McCain campaign are rightly calling "Dr. No", because he wants to spend billions, not millions, on renewable energy development. We need new oil rigs, coal mining, a $28 gas tax holiday, and 100 new nuclear reactors NOW, not Barack Obama's misguided attempt to fund "innovation" and "independence" with "new technology".

Typical liberals posting here; all they're good for are misspelled words and name calling. PLEASE, vote for Obama and continue our country's downward slide. You ridicule McCain for his ideas yet the dude from Chicago has yet to articulate ANYTHING beyond saying no to anything that isn't a Democratic talking point. Exactly what does it mean when he says he wants to invest in "green" technologies? Solar power, etc is nice, but all those technologies put together still can't match what we can get get from oil, coal, or nuclear power. As usual, the Left is living in fantasyland....

Um, what?

As a heroic leading man, John McCain and James Bond have many similarities - we're glad the Washington Post aren't the only ones to have noticed.

Extensive experience furthering relations with younger, sometimes exotic women, often wealthy, influential, and/or models.

Keen interest in blowing stuff up.

Unyielding belief in stunts that defy science, physics, and/or common sense.

Working as a "double agent", telling one group of people one thing, while secretly working against their interests.

Reckless disregard for violent and dangerous situations.

Perpetuation of outdated stereotypes of women, racial minorities, and other groups.

Repeated references to being captured and tortured by bad guys.

etc.

John McCain is Bond. Sea-Bond. And he will be our next President - super action agent McCain! Women love James Bond, and women love John McCain, a real Man's Man.

"Energy ranks low as a worry"?

When was the last time anyone in the Big Media wing of the Democrat party actually went out and talked to real people?

Energy is at the top of average citizens' concerns right now, because it hits home every day. Even on days when we don't fill up our cars, we see it's effects in higher posted gasoline prices and increased costs everywhere else.

Posted by: Anonymous | June 26, 2008 12:59 PM

This sd should run all the time for Obama! Why" Because it shows te stupidity of the GOP and the sagacity of Obama - oil drilling is not going to solve our current energy problems! $300 mil for a battery is a give away to big business. Let entrepreneurs come up with a design and concept on their own nickel - like we used to do when our Country was the leader in all things technological!

McBush = give it to Big Business and Big Oil

Obama = do it smart

Posted by: Daddio on the Paddio | June 26, 2008 12:58 PM

Dr. No is still better than Mr. Stupid a.k.a John McCain who dreamt up with the brilliant $300 million car battery.
