Huckaboom Hits TV

By Howard Kurtz

Mike Huckabee may have flamed out as a presidential candidate, but his glibness and humor did not go unnoticed.

The former Arkansas governor has signed a one-year deal as a political commentator for Fox News, where he will sound off on a variety of programs. A knowledgeable source says an announcement is expected soon.

Other cable channels had been pursuing Huckabee, who provided commentary on MSNBC during one of its primary-night broadcasts. Fox has given a platform to such former Republican politicos as Newt Gingrich and Karl Rove.

Huckabee honed his broadcasting skills during his years as a Baptist minister, and his underfunded White House campaign relied heavily on TV appearances, from his constant calls to MSNBC's "Morning Joe" to his stint playing air hockey with Comedy Central's Stephen Colbert. His first job, at 14, was reading the news and weather at a radio station.

The deal keeps Huckabee in the spotlight as he contemplates a second run in 2012, a tactic perfected by Pat Buchanan, who hosted CNN's "Crossfire" between presidential campaigns.

No word on whether the deal calls for Huckabee's band to play while Bill O'Reilly and Sean Hannity kick off their programs.

To Mary: Do you actually believe that Tori cares if you have two jobs, and have to give up the luxuries in life such as food and basic necessities for your children to pay your lease ?

Don't hold your breath....

So how do those of you who formerly watched Faux news before feel now that your out of the "We distort, you comply" fraternity ? Even this religious nut job is better than what we have now irregardless. Vote McBush ! Four More Years !

The last sentence of the story was wrong. It should have said "no word on whether Huckabee's band will play while Bill O'Reilly and Sean Hannity are kicked off their programs".

Wow. Dear Tori: I think I work pretty hard, even though I only make 14,500 a year, between a full time job and a part time job. (I do, in fact, have a four year college degree, which I got while working full time) There are weeks when I can't buy groceries, because rent in my town is such that it eats up most of my income. I've never received unemployment checks or food stamps, nor have I searched for any kind of handouts. But yeah, I think those who make one hundred times more than me should pay more in taxes than I do. And yes, I think that's a pretty reasonable thing to desire. Lifting the tax load off of people who can barely afford the basic amenities of life for themselves and their children seems like a fairly alright thing to do. Beyond this, I do believe in various other "liberal lies"- but mostly I simply resent the idea of being unfairly categorized as someone who "prefers empty promises, ugly words, and hand-outs".

Posted by: Mary | June 15, 2008 12:53 PM | Report abuse

Hey Huckabee haters- it is really sad that spewing anger and insults makes you happy. What are you afraid of? What if Huckabee is right? That would make you accountable. Sure is easier to be nasty and greedy than to be kind and generous. Yes, Huckabee challenges your "entitlement mentality" and the idea of "pro-choice convenience." He believes in -Help the needy, not the greedy- He actually believes that people should benefit from their hard work instead of being punished with even higher taxes. I can see why you hate him- how dare he value honesty and hard work. You prefer empty promises, ugly words, and hand-outs. And yet, Huckabee is a gentleman even to fools.

Sha- LOL! :-D

Why don't you tell us what you REALLY think of Mitt Romney?

Ever even been to his Web Site? Ever hear about his near death experience while doing his Missionary stint in France?

Are you aware he gave his Salary for being Governor of a liberal State to Charity? He was only the Governor BTW! Legislation, and the Popular will are not his to control. But, Obviously, he reached out and tried to work with the other sides in compromise!

Then, I don't know if Huckleberry needs "Congrads" or not. What exactly, are they?

But, I'll also offer congratulations to the Guy for NOT going with the "Peacock" group on the Coffee Mug he is holding!

I'm not surprised, FOX has been hiring more and more liberals as comsultants every week. FOX NEWS is looking more like CNN or MSNBC every day. FOX NEWS used to be the only channel I watched, But I very seldom watch it anymore.

many of the people out there hate Hucka bee because he is a Christian- Jesus said it would be that way for us and that we would be blessed when persecuted- so feel free to keep up the bashing. Also, only the Judeo/Christian has 100% accuracy of prophecy- the ability to tell the end from the beginning. Just open to the letters in red- God does not need us to defend Him, He fully capable of taking care of what needs to be done- just consider the reason Christians tell you about Jesus is because it is a historical fact He rose from the grave (look up Josephus)after enduring a horrible death to take on all the world's sin-even those who would say no to the gift- and all the born againers know full well that we would go to hell if we did not say yes to the gift of God's son's payment and sincerely do not want anyone to go there for all of eternity. If Corrie Ten Boom can forgive and all the martyrs forgive we as God's children those who are blind. Start looking up prophecy things.

How sad that people ignore the obvious and give people like Huckabee attention. This man is anti-American. He is so pro-illegal that La Raza loves him. As far as being a minister, he is a politician first. We need to shun anyone who is for giving our country away to illegals. By the way, I am a Southern Baptist Christian conservative, but I don't support someone just because they claim to be a Christian and Baptist.

all of you huck-haters are jerks... you only like romney b/c of his money. the love of money have sold our souls to china and other countries while ours is going up in smoke.... I can not believe that some of your comments are so nasty. lets look at this:
Romney-also known as FEE-FEE- Nearly bankrupting mass with his hillary style universal mandated health care, his state was the first to pass Gay Marriage, He raised more taxes oops I'm sorry fees in on term that huckabee raised in his 4 terms, he gives away 50.00 abortion gift certificates to anyone that wants one, not too long agao he was a reagan and bush hater, now that he want to be president-he wants to run as a conservative and you blind people that support him only do so b/c he got a degree from harvard? this sounds like a really uneducated reason...
Now lets look at huckabee, his schools went from # 48 - 8, roads were fixed, taxes were cut, and a nearly 1 billion dollar surplus was left when he left office. That's what I call real executive leadership and experience...Every reason that you idiots pointed out had nothing to do with his leadership in ark, but everything to do with his religion...Romney is not a christian, christianity does not say that the devil and jesus are brothers... it seems like you people just hate him b/c of his religion. Huckabee has excellent debating skills, even far better than that used car salesman MITT FLIP...Mitt could not carry no states in the south and every state that he competitive he lost to mccain in the north. he is a loser and no one wants him...He is a typical politian that reminds me of the guy that laid me off and I will never vote for MITT so all you MITTEN KITTENS that keep trying to demonize huck b/c of what he eats, or b/c of this new role on tv, you are just upset b/c he, unlike your candidate has a better shot! Congrads Huck! I support you b/c you support the people, NOT WALL street like WILLARD! MCCain/ HUCK 2008!

For all you Huckabashers. Mr. Huckabee did not mention the words assassin or assassinate in his NRA poor attempt at a joke, and he had already apologized to Mr. Obama by phone by evenings end. If you really think about the setting, (National Rifle Assoc.) and Mr. Obama's political stance on our Second Amendment Rights, you might just take the comment for what it was....poor attempt at a joke, just like Mr. Obama did....no malice, no evil intended, apology accepted.

It is refreshing to have someone like Mike Huckabee, stand and believe in the things that make this country great, If this country is so bad, why are so many people trying to get in here?. Conservative values will always win out, it does not take much thought to see what is right and wrong with this country. Most folks have a problem that stems from the heart. Rather then complain, go to the source.

Not suprised that Huckabee has signed on at Fox as a contributor/analyst. During the primary run, he was just one of the most engaging. He literally spiced up the debates among the GOP candidates.

He has great witt and personality: but just cannot understand that blunder at the NRA forum on Obama-- and the word "assassin" in one line.

Huck you came off as very insensitive; but I think you will make many who have turned off Fox, tune in again just to hear you. With lines from SNL and your guitar, you should kick off with a bang. Will check you out!!

To Liberal:

The "real christian" comment is so incorrect. Christians are not defined by their stand on political or social issues. Both "types" of Christians that you describe are "real".

I see this a lot from liberals, and from John Stewart. That is, a belief that a "real" Christian is some sort of Mother Teresa that has never a bad word to say about others. Like a stereotype from a movie. Not true.

Some Christians think that the Democratic Party panders to homosexual perverts and baby killers. Some Christians focus on the poor as a priority. Some don't care to comment on any of that. All are real.

Posted by: Onward Christian soldiers | June 12, 2008 8:35 PM | Report abuse

We (liberals) should be cheering that Huckabee will be on fox news. Because unlike most of the rest of the fox news staff, he isn't a knee jerk blowhard who spends all day focusing on fake social issues. He's a republican, a conservative, and a evangelistic christian, but he has his priorities right. He cares more about helping the poor than repressing the homosexuals. (as one example of a platform of focusing on the sort of things a real christian would focus on, instead of the sort of things convenience christians like Bush do)

Daddio et al.,

It's curious how the left so quickly pounced on Huckabee as this year's "right wing religious fanatic 'CHRISTIAN' BIGOT" simply because Huckabee is a former minister.

When Huckabee was a minister, he was a black sheep among the Baptists, often at odds with the "radical right" element in the denomination. His policies and attitudes toward government are actually quite progressive in many respects. He is a social conservative in many other respects, but he also sees value in social services and using government to solve problems, which actually makes him objectionable as a candidate to many serious conservatives. And if you've heard Huckabee's comments on immigration ("I don't think we should be punishing children just because their parents are in the country illegally"), Huckabee proved himself one of the least conservative people on the stage during many Republican debates on that issue.

And so what if he raised his hand that he believes in creationism? He didn't advocate a policy of teaching religion in schools, and he drew a firm line around his private beliefs on the matter. You may disagree with Huckabee's beliefs, but the man is no fanatic trying to force his views on others.

Tar and feather him if you must to reaffirm your own bigoted stereotypes of Christians, but Huckabee will never quite fit into the tidy-but-ugly box that you try to create for him.

It amazes me how much hatred people on the left have for conservatives, and especially for conservative Christians. Are people on the left really consumed by hate so much that this is all they can see in the world? Huckabee is just one of the latest targets, and yet I doubt Huckabee has never expressed hatred for anyone.

In fact, to offer another example, conservative Christians almost universally expressed a sentiment of "I dislike the man's politics, but I pray for his health and family" when the news of Ted Kennedy's cancer broke. How many people on the left would offer the same support for Huckabee or anyone else on the right diagnosed with an almost certainly fatal disease? Why the hatred and stereotyping? You may not like their politics, but why vilify the person? In doing so, you're basically turning yourself into the same hate-mongering caricature that you have created for them.

Anyway, having Mike Huckabee on TV will be a great thing. He is a decent guy, a man with a good sense of humor. We may not agree with him on creationism, but he has interesting, refreshing views on most things.

What I like the most about Mike Huckabee is the tone of his voice: although he is a former pastor, he doesn't sound like he's giving us a sermon or a lecture. Exactly the opposite of Barak Obama.

He needs to be in hiding for his forgiveable yet unforgetable --try-to be-funny blunder at the NRA.

A need to be funny plus average talent in comedy plus talk too much too often =disaster.
That's the Huckamath as I see it.

This is the BEST NEWS I HEARD TODAY!!!! I stopped watching FOX NEWS for a long time because of how Huckabee was misrepresented by most in Fox News but I'll tune in to watch only the programs that have Huckabee on. He always has something useful to say and a fresh perspective on everything.

I'm so happy to hear that. Huckabee is one of the few people who make sense and I will certainly tune in every time he's on.

McCain's a Looser...he keeps putting his d*&) in his mouth! He Flip Flops, Flops Flips. It ridiculous! Point blank, he keeps repeating the same crap...stay the course in Iraq for another 100 years, it's not important when our overstretch, too may deployments, not enough equipment, families splt apart, soldiers murdered and it's just "really not important" to this old jerk! Just as it wasn't really important that he had some ethics and values and stuck with his cripple handicap wife after such a horrible accident. But no, fame and fortune and young dumb blondes were his priorities...so he threw his cripple wife and chldren under the bus...and to think, they want to do negative campaigning against a class act, educated, classy woman like Michelle Obama and McCain's adulterous, husband stealing, pill popping, drug addict, theif of an aging barbie doll is trolling around like Chuckie's bride! What a Looser!!! Expose this jerk and his chuckie bride and be done with it! ROTFLMAO

I am so sorry for all the suffering that our neighbors south of us are dealing with because of Tornados. May you be blessed by your god and rely on the people north of you. Our government better dam well be there to assist.
I have said it many times, you the people of AMERICA don't, nor can you take much more hardship. Love from a granddad.
