McCain Targets Fla. Cubans with New Radio Spot

Corrected
By Ed O'Keefe
John McCain is once again reaching out to Hispanic voters on the radio, this time targeting Cuban-Americans in South Florida in a 60-second radio ad voiced by Roberto Martin Perez, who was imprisoned by the Cuban government for 24 years, until his exile in 1988.

"Cuban Prisoners," as the ad is called, will air on Radio Mambi, a 50,000-watt news and talk radio station popular with the state's Cuban-Americans. It's a station that transmits all across Southern Florida, and sometimes even as far away as Jamaica, according to Madeline Lamela, national sales manager at Radio Mambi.

"If there's one radio station that every politician must and will be on, it is that one," Lamela said. "It reaches the bulk of the Cuban community. It reaches business people. It's the where to be what to do, what's happening around the world news station."

In the ad, Martin Perez relates his decades as a political prisoner in Castro's Cuba to McCain's half decade as a prisoner of war in Vietnam. "The harsh reality is that millions of my fellow Cuban citizens are prisoners in their own country," says Martin Perez in the spot. "Despite this, our spirit remains resilient; and John McCain knows that Raul Castro is, like his brother, a man that does almost anything to stay in power, violating the fundamental rights of Cubans.... While some support a dialogue with Raul Castro, John McCain believes we should support the courageous men and women who continue to stand up for freedom in Cuba."

The ad continues: "As someone who has survived the harsh conditions of the Vietnamese prisons, John McCain knows that freedom in Cuba won't be achieved with concessions to dictatorships."

The McCain campaign started airing Spanish-language ads about the economy last week in Nevada and New Mexico. Spanish-language radio stations are some of the most popular in the nation's largest markets, serving an audience of avid listeners.

As for Barack Obama's campaign, Hispanic media outreach coordinator Vincent Casillas promises an "aggressive Spanish-language media outreach campaign" that will begin "within the near distant future."

An earlier version of this report incorrectly quoted Loretta Anaya, instead of Madeline Lamela. This post has been changed to correct the error.

If Hillary does not discourage and disown these "Just Say No Deal" crazies she should be thrown out of the party!

She has shamelessly gotten women all worked up so that they think her every problem is the problem of all women, and the political hopes of all women are tightly bound to her becoming president! Don't fall for that b.s.! Eventually a woman will make it to the presidency On Her Own, but this time, let's support Obama because he has the intelligence and vision to do the job well.

An alternative for democrats

*****MEDIA ALERT*****

VOTERS RECLAIM THEIR VOICES AND VOW TO "JUST SAY NO DEAL"

Explosion of rogue grassroots organizations coalesces overnight to form Mega-Coalition: JustSayNoDeal.com

- Online, in Washington D.C. and Nationwide-- Growing exponentially -- individually, but infinitely together in one unifying mission -- they are Senator Barack Obama's gravest concern. On the evening of June 8, 2008, dozens of grassroots organizations and political activists convened a conference call and formed a coalition: Just Say No Deal. Its goal? : To turn the current race on its head and remind voters that all options are on the table this November.

Just Say No Deal is an umbrella organization giving voice to over 80 grassroots organizations, blogs and millions of self- professed PUMAs (Party Unity My A_ _) intent on one mission: NOBAMA! Coalition members are pushing varying agendas and voting strategies, but the factions are united in their unwavering decision to not "fall in line" by supporting Barack Obama.

Concerned citizens have come out of the woodwork to express their distaste for and frustration with party leaders and the outcome of the nominating process. The Just Say No Deal website offers those voters an array of choices to assist in their decision-making process. The coalition will continue to organize in pursuit of its mission of keeping another unqualified candidate from inheriting the Oval Office.

Obama is unelectable. The Democrats would be really foolish to nominate him.

Let's raise a glass to the political implosion of Obama BEFORE the actual nomination vote takes place in late Aug. in Denver at the convention. A day is an eternity in politics, anything can happen and most likely will. Let the long overdue vetting of Obama finally begin..........this should be good! The Dems hopefully will come crawling back to the finest candidate they have ever had, Hillary Rodham Clinton!

If not, vote for McCain to protest the failure of the DNC to condem the rampant sexism, racism, classism and voter disefranchisement continually interjected into this campaign by Obama, his campaign and his nasty supporters and ALL media.

The Democratic party understands two things, money and votes. WE have the power to with hold BOTH. Do so. Use you power.

If we don't speak out now, WHEN???????????

So McCain wants to continue with the same old policy, huh? It must be because the embargo has been working so well for the past 50 years! Uhh, yeah right. Cuba is no closer to being a democracy because our policy is an utter failure.

LOL. What a joke. The US negotiates with dictators all the time. Earth to McMoron: China, Saudi Arabia, et al are not vibrant representative democracies.

As usual, with posters of "American Voters" ilk, no backup, just spouting. Show us the proof of "racism". Perhaps you meant Bill Clinton.

Hey Amigos, Senor McCain want to "veto beer"! Now there's a platform.

Targeting the Miami Cubans with anti-communist and anti-Castro messages is kind of the politics of the past particularly when Fidel Castro may be dead or dying.

The Cuban refugees have long been a bulwark of support for Republican candidates in Florida. They have often been decisive margin. But they are slowly dying off and are being replaced by a new generation who are not so anti-Castro or who do not have the passion of their elders.

I don't know who McCain's consultant is in Florida or whose idea this was but it is probably something that should have been saved for later in the campaign.

If McCain thinks he is going to win the Cuban-American vote in Florida by simply waving the anti-Castro flag then he really is living in the past.

McCain is so stuck in a time warp. Does he know anything besides war and ragging on foreign despots?

Wow the racism of Obama supporters is really coming out.

Interesting, if this is the politics is change, I want none of it.

The Obama campaign has done a wonderful job of running a campaign of hate. They smear they're other opponents and use race-bullying to win. Hopefully, McCain is stronger than the other ones that have fallen to Obama's nefarious schemes.

I'm tired of Hispanics coming into this country. Alberto Gonzalez, eh? We see the problem of putting Hispanics in power.
Hispanics are a Republican toy - they should all be deported.

As a black male, I've seen constant incidents of brown on black violence. They do not belong in this country.

McCain wants amnesty for illegal immigrants.
As Obama mentioned, NAFTA was a horrible idea. Cheap Mexican labor has forced U.S. corporations to take jobs away from hard-working Americans. Now McCain is again trying to cater to illegal immigrants at the expense of hard-working immigrants.
Obama will not let this happen, and will not let poor Americans to be forced out of their job by illegal Mexican immigrants.

McCain wishes to legalize all illegal immigrants. He's actually making Republicans upset with his policy. His intention is clear. Mexicans are the largest minority group in America. He's obviously willing to trade American jobs for Mexican votes.

I'm Hispanic. I was born in Colorado. I will not vote for a black person to be commander and chief of America's armed forces. Why? I don't trust the Blacks whose history is constant compaining, marching, boycotting, rioting, whining

McAmnesty is truly delusional, or, TRYING to Force O'Bomba to get Bill Richardson as his Veep.

Pandering to the Hispanics will NOT help one bit if "Barry" does go all out for Class Warfare by picking Richardson up!

Yet, the Senile Fool is alienating the Legals Big Time!
