McCain to Meet with Billy Graham's Son

By Michael D. Shear
CLEVELAND, Ohio -- Sen. John McCain plans to meet on Sunday morning with Franklin Graham, the son of the Christian evangelist Billy Graham as part of a renewed effort to reach out to the religious community.

McCain will fly to North Carolina Saturday afternoon in advance of the private meeting between the two men, McCain's campaign announced. A small group of reporters will travel with McCain but will not be present at the meeting.

McCain told reporters Friday afternoon that he does not consider the meeting a political one.

"No, he is a man whose family is respected, incredibly respected, and I consider it a privilege to have the opportunity to meet with him," McCain said aboard the Straight Talk Express. "I think the Graham family really transcends politics in America. Billy Graham was an adviser to every president and so I'm not sure that there is any -- there certainly is no political aspect to the meeting that I will have.''

On Thursday, McCain held a private meeting with a handful of Ohio conservatives, who reportedly told the Republican nominee that he should speak more loudly and more often about his commitment to their causes.

dear reverend graham and senator mccain - please don't forget the poor as you discuss politics and religion

please sirs - you who have positions of power and trust - please forget about sexuality and sin and instead focus attention on the poor and how Christian leaders and political leaders can work together to reach out with compassion and demonstrate unity and unconditional love mercy and grace

please tv preachers - stop being superhuman and start being humane - i really do not care if you can heal and speak words of knowledge or if you know the mind of God and who God is smiting or "taking out" or how much weight you can legpress and who God is angry with or when your angry God will send the next terrible storm or the next terrorist attack

let's all pray graham and mccain discussed the souls who have no hope and no future and who are helpless to do anything to change their circumstances - starvation and sickness and victimization - it is humane to give and to help in a tangible way, Christian or not

let's all pray that our religious leaders and government leaders will stop focusing attention on sexuality and sin of any kind
i do not understand what has happened to Christianity
i am disgusted by what robertson hagee coulter wright flager have done to my faith
i do not want my faith used to make anyone feel unloved or judged

WE HAVE HAD EIGHT LONG, LONG YEARS OF SWEET TALK AND DEVIOUS MINDS THAT HAS RESULTED IN NEAR RUINATION OF THE PEOPLE; AND THE COUNTRY. OBAMA WITH HIS NON.-INFORMATIVE TALK, TALK, TALK WILL COMPLETE THE JOB, GEORGIE PORGIE AND HIS BRAIN, CHENEY, INSTITUTED, NOT TO OVERLOOK KARL (THE nazi)ROVE.

IT IS A VERY SAD COMMENTARY ON THIS COUNTRY THAT THE POLITICAL SYSTEM HAS HIT THE BOTTOM OF THE BARREL AND COME UP WITH SHEAR UNADULTERATED GARBAGE TO LEAD THIS COUNTRY!

Neither of these CLOWNS, OBAMA OR MC CAIN, should be allowed to run for President of our country.

The more we hear, the more people are saying they will not vote. We should have A VOTER'S STRIKE on the day of THE PRESIDENTIAL election. WHERE ARE THE PEOPLE'S BRAINS. HITLER WAS A FANTASTIC SPEAKER, AND SO IS OBAMA I AM TOLD, IS THIS WHAT AMERICA WANTS, TALK AND NO SUBSTANCE AND NO BACKBONE!

well there goes the Harley, religion as a money maker vote. I'm guessing Ted Haggerty will be there to pass out party favors. And of coarse the body of Falwell in a pickle barrel. bet Pat Robertson is not pleased, oh well, that will only come with his own death.

McCain lies about Vietnam. This sleaze is no hero. It is time for the NeoNut Post gang of Broder, Cohen, and Kraut et al to tell the real story about McCain's betrayal of his family, his wives, and his country.
McCain admits he was taken to a hospital and given special treatment, and gave military information to the Vietnamese, including the name of his aircraft carrier, numbers of U.S. pilots that had been lost, the number of aircraft in his flight, location of rescue ships and more.
McCain cooperated with the North Vietnamese for a period of three years, made radio broadcasts for the communists and met with foreign delegations on their behalf.
On June 4, 1969, a U.S. wire service story headlined "PW Songbird Is Pilot Son of Admiral," reported McCain's radio broadcasts.

All he can do is beg. I don't think another Republican other then Joe L. even wants to be seen with him. The John Mccain of 2000 would not even want to be seen with the John Mccain of 2008. What ever he was at one time, that guy no longer exists.

Dear Senator McCain:

I advise you not to pursue Willian Graham. You do not need any endorsement from pastors. They will come to you if you wait.

Give us more pictures of yourself and Cindy--NO interviews during summer. When you are straight showing yourself as who-you-are, as you have been doing, then you will win: NO make-ups, please. NO Lieberman around you, please.

Don't pick on the WP, Mccain is like an invisible candidate. Except when he says something stupid he is not even news worthy. Every day he comes up with a different scheme of some kind trying to get someone's attention. Wait till Obamas European trip is over. He is expected to be received there like a complete rock star, they love him. America may actually start shedding some of the bad will that has been building the last 7 years. They hate us over there. The trip will be timed for maximum effect. Same with the Iraq trip that is coming up. The soldiers will be standing in line just to shake hands with Obama, again, rock star status, the rumor is the troops love the guy. The visuals when Obama makes the trips it will be front page all the way in every paper and lead all news broadcasts world wide..

Then you have Mccain, little more corpse in a suit who was lucky to get someone to shake his hand for a photo op last time he was there. It had to be staged, no one cared about him. When he spoke it just produced sound bites of a guy who didn't seem to have a clue where he was. Obamas campaign is carefully times and orchestrated to in the end finish off what is left of the Mccain campaign. Although, Mccain doesn't even have a campaign to speak of anyway. It must be embarrassing to be a Republican these days, with a dead from the neck up and pretty much down as well.

Wait! You mean there's someone else running for President, besides Obama?

I wouldn't have believed it from the coverage you've been giving the campaign lately.

Does anyone think John Mccain believes in God. I can only imagine the "deer in the headlights moment" if a reporter asked him to tell them his favorite passage from the bible. Remember when Paris Hilton was asked that on Larry King and she could not quote anything not even one. She said there were so many good ones she didn't want to choose. I can't wait till Mccain passes his energy package that he says won't do anything about the prices but will have a physiological effect. I guess I will be saying to myself, Gas is $8.00 a gallon and I feel good", Thank you John Mccain.

He has always been a slimball he just had a good act and no one was scrutinizing him. Although in 2000 Bush tore him apart pretty good. I would think a lot of that will come back to haunt him. No one cares anyway, he is a throw away candidate by the Republicans who expect to lose anyway.

Hey John, I was going to vote for you in "the next election", but then you went crawling on your hands and knees to kiss jerry falwell's ... protuberance.
Now you're crawling to this fraud with both both cheeks spread wide. Political expediency, smart politics, or do you really believe this crap?

Kissing up to the religious right is going to cost you dearly with the centrist independents. Obviously you have made this calculation and are now showing us which side you have chosen. This also informs me that you lack intelligence.

Nobody on that side is going to buy the notion that you're one of them, and you've lost the center now. What an idiot, you're too stupid to become president.

It's all very sad John McCain. You used to be somebody, now you're just another scheming republican.

Maybe Franklin Graham will baptize McCain so he can officially call himself and Evangelical

McCain, "I didn't find it necessary to do so for my spiritual needs".

McCain's church is North Phoenix Baptist Church located in Phoenix, Arizona. The 6,000 member North Phoenix is affiliated with the Southern Baptist Convention and at the state level with the Arizona Southern Baptist Convention.

1. John McCain by his own admission has not been baptized.
2. John McCain says he's an "active member" of North Phoenix.
3. Baptism by immersion is a prerequisite for membership in Southern Baptist churches. The Baptist Faith & Message 2000 states that {baptism} "is a prerequisite to the privileges of church membership and to the Lord's Supper."

"Neither party should be defined by pandering to the outer reaches of American politics and the agents of intolerance, whether they be Louis Farrakhan and Al Sharpton on the left, or Pat Robertson or Jerry Falwell on the right." - John McCain

McCain has been around so long has not recently been vetted for newer voters. - In 2007, McCain voted in agreement with Bush 95% of the time.
- Up through May 15, 2008, voted in agreement with Bush 100% of the time.
- Graduated from Annapolis Naval Academy with class rank of 894 ut of 899 cadets.
- Lost 5 military aircraft while a Navy pilot.
- Left his first wife after she was permanently injured in a horrific car accident for beer heiress Cindy McCain.
- For decades McCain has been voting against a woman's right to choose, sex education and contraceptives.
- McCain was one of the members of the Keating Five savings and loan scandal that bilked tens of thousands out of their retirement savings.
- McCain did not support the Lilly Ledbetter equal pay for women legislation.
- Even though he and Cindy's combined yearly income is over $6 million per year, McCain received tax-free military disability pension in the amount of $58,358 for the year 2007 at the rate of 100%. That would be fine if he would support the same benefits for our current troops and veterans, but he doesn't. He was against the new GI Bill and regularly votes against legislation that would help our troops and veterans. Facts are available at www.StopThinkVote.com/votes.html.

There are many strong indications that the military draft is coming back. Read the facts and judge for yourself:

Under McCain's leadership our troops are much more likely to get on-the-job training for years to come.

John McCain better hope Franklin Graham can apply some salves and heal his sins -- the most recent of which is to permit his surrogate Grover Norquist to describe Barack Obama as "John Kerry with a tan" to the LA Times today. Subtle. Really subtle. I guess the only positive is that people are getting to see just how far this guy has strayed from the "maverick" reputation he burnished in 2000. That guy is gone. The 2008 version tries to toady up to the evangelicals, condones torture and runs away from his own legislation (McCain Feingold anyone? Immigration reform?). Amazing.
