Obama Announces First Joint Appearance with Clinton

By Anne E. Kornblut
CHICAGO -- The Obama and Clinton campaigns have announced the first joint appearance by the two former rivals -- without much detail.

"Senators Barack Obama and Hillary Clinton announced today that they will campaign together on Friday, June 27th. Further details to be announced soon," the statement from Dan Pfeiffer read.

The two operations have been slowly inching closer together, with members of the old Clinton team -- former secretary of state Madeleine Albright, former administration economist Jason Furman -- signing up to help Obama and some members of the Clinton finance team making concrete offers to help. Next Thursday, Clinton is planning to introduce her top donors to Obama.

Office of Inspector General
Solicitation of Information and Recommendations for Revising the
Compliance Program guidance for Nursing Facilities [ T42CFR409.33 ]
AGENCY: Office of Inspector General (OIG), HHS.
ACTION: Notice.
This Federal Register notice seeks the input and
recommendations of interested parties as OIG revises the compliance
Program guidance (CPG) for Nursing Facilities, especially those serving
Medicare, Medicaid, and other [ OPM FEHBP, CHAMPVA,TRICARE ] Federal health care program [ ENTITLED Individual's ] beneficiaries.
The nursing home industry has experienced a number of changes since OIG first published a CPG in this area (65 FR 14289; March 16, 2000). Additionally, the subsequent years of enforcement and compliance activity in the Nursing Home Industry [ HOSPITAL Affiliates ] has allowed OIG to address more fully the various risk areas in nursing home compliance.
The development of CPGs is a major
initiative of OIG in its effort to engage the private health care
industry in addressing and combating fraud and abuse. Over the past
several years, OIG has developed and issued CPGs directed at various
segments of the health care industry. These guidances are DESIGNED to
provide CLEAR DIRECTION and assistance to SPECIFIC sections of the
health care industry that are interested in addressing compliance with
Federal Health Care Program [ T42CFR409.33 ] requirements.
The CPGs set forth OIG's suggestions on how 'PROVIDERS CAN' most
effectively establish 'Internal Controls' [ SELF-Audit ] and implement monitoring procedures [ T42CFR417.1 grievance procedures - misPrison of felony - anti-dumping violations ] to identify, correct, and prevent potentially Fraudulent Conduct.
OIG would appreciate specific comments, recommendations, and suggestions on risk areas for the nursing home industry, such as the submission of [ T42CFR417.1 Adverse Determination ] False Claims, as well as QUALITY of CARE concerns, KICKBACKS, and accurate reporting of data to [ HCFA forced Medicaid conversions / fraud by fright ] Medicare and Medicaid. Detailed justifications and empirical data supporting any suggestions would be appreciated.

A memo to Senator Clinton... Please stay as far away from Obama as you can get.. Play the game to make it look like you are supporting him, but in reality do very little. Don't be seen with him, tell your surrogates to stop stumping for him on the cable newshows, don't ask your supporters to back him in any fashion.... Please... By November, the American public will have the same view of him as millions already do and it's not pretty. So, please, please, stay away.......

Democrats, listen up! It is time to unite together and fight off the Republican onslaught of our country! For the last 8 years, Republicans have been badgering and beating up the Democrats, and the Democrats have just stood there are took it. Not any more. Not this time. Whether you like Obama or not, he is standing up strong for Democratic values. Every time Republicans take a swing at him, he swings back much harder. Whether you like him or not, he is bringing strength to the Democratic party, and motivating people to fight back against Republican nonsense. Finally, we are seeing the Democrats as a team stand up to the Republicans, fighting with tools such as this:

We also are finally seeing a Democrat attempt to redraw the political map. No longer must we believe that certain states are red states and others are blue states. Now finally we are seeing a Democrat with a legitimate chance of taking states like Georgia which are supposed to be Republican strongholds.

What we are witnessing today is the beginning of a new America and a new strength for the Democratic party. Whether you like Obama or not, you must recognize that he is a great leader for brining forth this movement. Obama was chosen over Hillary because of his message and because of the hope he inspired in millions of people. If you're an anti-Obama Democrat, I can only ask you politely to take a closer look at his message and what he stands for. Together, we can make America and the world a better place.

Yuk. I thought Jake Tapper's Political Punch on ABC's web site had a lock on nasty posts. It's time for partisan Democrats to stop poking at their wounds and come together. Clinton suffered from some sexim...Obama suffered from some racism. The Democratic primaries are over and the choices for the country couldn't be starker or more important. How anyone could show their disgust with a sexism by voting for a sexist with no record on issues of importance to women or families is simply beyond me. My grandmother used to call this sort of thing "cutting off your nose to spite your face."

You clearly did not watch the debates, read the newpapers or get e-mail from the Obama campaign- he ran negative against her first and all the way through- she is "about the old ways in DC", "represents the broken system", etc. He also called her directly whiny and emotional in the debates. Additionally, he did nothing as his advocates branded her racist, power-hungry and other less pleasant words. She actually argued 2 things- policy and electability- find where SHE did the name calling...

Posted by: Anonymous | June 21, 2008 12:11 AM | Report abuse

So I am going to try and get the Obamapath logic straight here-

Hillary represents everything that is wrong with the Democrats- she was part of the last Democratic administration and worked with the Democratic senate for the last 8 years, getting high marks from everyone. She got at least 50% of the votes in selecting the Democratic nominnee. She has ambitious progressive policiy proposals. She represents the old ways in DC, choosing her would make Barak look like a politician- but going back on his word on campaign finance and negative campaigning or sending advocates to Canada about NAFTA to say "don't worry, we don't mean what we say"- is how you show that you are not just playing politics.

However, being supported by old white males who have been in congress since creation like Edward Kennedy, John Kerry and Tom Daschle with 100 total years in the senate together is how you show you are in for change. It is even more change if you take an old white male like Biden or Dodd to be your VP- because they only have about 50 years in the Senate between them. Or perhaps you should reincarnate Sam Nunn, an even older white male, and one who is CONSERVATIVE.

Oh and then you should never elucidate any type of progressive policy proposal- just speak in rhetoric.

I think I get it now.
Thanks so much for saving us from such a big mistake as supporting the smartest and most competent person for President, I'm glad you want to make sure she is not VP also!

(By the way- I really don't want her to be VP- it is thankless and powerless- much better for Supreme Court if possible)

But since you are running on nothing- you need a strawperson to beat up. Keep fighting HRC- it does the party really well!

I am a leftist and will vote for Barak- but the whole bunch of you with your MYSOGYNISTIC hatred for her are ridiculous- work out whatever problems you have with your mothers in therapy and have a POLICY debate here- Dem policies should easily win over Rep. policies- that is what is supposed to count.

The 1st joint appearance of these two candidates may be the last of what JMcC recalls of what he thought Goldwater actully said or did re the long ago days.
JMcC appears to go on & on again & again, flip flopping his own speaks and actions, from day to day and month to month, that when one hears him speak AGAIN, oops, He has flip flopped again. I hope that JMcC realizes that many of us old folks do not believe he consommated a real deal with Obama re public financing,uh, Maybe it was with feingold. Therefore,we feel that Obama actually did not go back on his word. Coming together Perhaps will be a good thing. Many of these good judgement calls for our future vs old time religion will explain what can be called experience.

Hah.. I can't wait for the first debate when Obama won't have a script. Obama knows his ability himself, he already chickened out on the town hall discussions, same as he did with Clinton.

And Mullett said:

That word "blow"... now I recall. Obama used it in his book to describe his cocaine usage. Still more baggage.

Several million voting and over 1.5 million donating, with most only $250 since January of 2007 are not elite people, trust me.
Obama is going to clean up D.C. before this country goes to a third party, which will happen in 2012 if he don't win. He is intelligent and capable of leading, organizing and not to mention just plain giving people HOPE. You see what makes our great economy strong, is the good feelings of Americans, we must feel good or we do not participate in our great economy, we must have faith in our government to render aid when needed - unselfishly. America basically keeps the world afloat and we cannot let it sink, especially alone, chaos will prevail.
get with it and support Obama.
It will happen.

The Clintons are white trash from Arkansas?
This is precisely why I will not vote for Obama. The Obama campaign has done more to drive a wedge through the Democratic Party than the Republicans. Obama wasn't elected as the nominee, he was selected by the "elite" of the party. And I'm sick and tired of hearing that the Clintons played the race card. To say that they are racist is just disgusting.

That is why I will not vote for Obama The Democratic Party is a sham and so is the media which was bought off by the Obama campaign.

Sorry folks, I don't do kool-aid.

Bill, you thought that he treated the woman with courtesy? He told her she was miss informed, called her a liar and bullied her. When she corrected his self serving posturing and asked for guidance on how to proceed with her grievance, he walked out on her.

The issue was that McCain had pushed legislation to close the book on possible prisoners still being held in SE Asia, and to classify as secret all returning POWs debriefing. McCain claimed that the families were happy with his effort, but if you listen to her backers responing it's obvious that he lying.

Evidently, the Obama team now has the names of all of Hillary Clinton's donors. I just received by mail a pandering letter from Obama, praising Clinton, the woman his team vilified throughout the campaign, and asking me for money.

I recently reviewed a videotape of an early Democratic debate showing Obama and Edwards piling on Clinton with their ugly attempts to assassinate her character.

For the record, I changed my lifetime party registration as a Democrat to unafiliated recently because I had become embarrassed to belong to a party that allowed misogyny to dominate its primary.

As an independent voter, neither you or anyone else in either party is going to tell me how to vote in the November election. I'm capable of making that decision on my own, and I'd like the patronizing lemming-like followers of Obama to get that through their heads and take me off their mailing lists.

A few points, after reading the posts...

Madeline Albright is an excellent negotiator. I am absolutely positive the Clintons must have worked out a great deal for Obama to fix her debt problem.

I can't help but wonder what many angry Clinton supporters will do when Hillary herself asks you to support Obama. What will you do? Interesting.

And after all the extremely rude comments about Obama posted here, what if indeed he did select her as his running mate? Clinton supporters all seem to think they would be voting for her, rather than Obama. How could you live with yourselves voting for your sworn enemy, even with your candidate as #2? More interesting.

I would have thought there would be more unity by now, but I guess that may never happen.

So, Mc Cain is suppose to be better because he was stabbed five times and tortured for 5 years in Vietnam, huh?
I guess McBushy is suppose to be better because of his experience, too, huh?

Well, I have an opinion to share with you.

First of all, what makes Mc Cain honorable?
Keeping American troops in Iraq to die for no reason. And don't any of you dare say that they are dieing for American freedom, because our freedom has not been threatened since World War 2. I'm sick of hearing that crap on TV and from others.

If experience is such a big deal, then why didn't experience help Bush make better decisions? Bush hasn't learned anything from his experiences.

And for those of you who think Obama is a terrorist, you must be an idiot to think the US government would allow a terrorist to be in the senate. Not to mention, you also must know nothing about religions, other cultures in general, history, or how to determine if your sources are creditable, to believe in all of the crap that y'all believe about Obama.

Go back to school and learn more about other cultures and how to find quality sources! A liberal arts university would be perfect for you. Oh wait, I'm sorry, you probably won't be able to afford it because of the Republicans... That's too bad, maybe you should consider voting for someone that is willing to change that!

Maybe then, after taking classes, you will see that all of the terrorist and Muslim crap about Obama doesn't make any sense what-so-ever.

Mc Cain has nothing positive to offer this country, nothing what so ever!

You would have to be totally ignorant, oblivious to the world around you to vote for McCain!

Wow, no wonder we are viewed in such a negative way from the rest of the world. Ignorants has no place in politics.

Let's see....

Feb 12, 1999: "Sen. John McCain (R-Arizona): Mr. Chief Justice, I intend to vote to convict the President of the United States on both articles of impeachment."

Given that, Sen. Clinton still had the gall and audacity to say "Senator McCain will bring a lifetime of experience to the campaign, I will bring a lifetime of experience, and Senator Obama will bring a speech that he gave in 2002."

This, of course, from the same Sen Clinton who made her bones cleaning up Bill's women problems, silencing women's voices/bimbo eruptions. The same Sen Clinton who now tries to pass herself off as a feminist.

The Clintons are fundamentally good people; but they are damaged goods.

As George Will wrote, "When voters watch a presumptive presidential nominee considering this or that running mate, they think: What if the president dies? When the presumptive nominee considers this or that running mate, he thinks: What if I live?"

Well, if Obama takes the blue pill (Hillary as VP), the change story ends, he'll wake up in his bed every day having to fight against chaos, controversy and Clinton dramas, instead of fighting to enact the legislation that would make this world a better place.

Sen. Obama, the choice is yours. And it is clear. Take the red pill.

This is the change ... I will be looking for: Restoring the middle class to something closer to the American Dream than closer to the poverty line. The middle class who traditionally have bourne the tax burden in every progressive country ... and now just marginally middle class - if not poor.

It was John McCain who told the people of Michigan in the primaries - that their jobs will not be coming back - a stright talk express with no solutions and not even an offer of hope to the poor jobless people of Michigan.

Hope might be cheap ... cost very little ... but it is worth lots to poor people

Some of you people (like Sunny Florida, who is all in the Kool-Aid and don't know the flavor)need to wake up and smell the coffee. We Obamabots are proud to be working toward changing this country (from racists) to having a GREAT President like Mr. Obama. The only reason you people don't want him in is because you are ignorant, racists. He is the best thing that this country has had in 40 yrs. GO OBMAM GO!!!!
p.s. Maria Luisa in Indianopalis .... If your going to Vote for your candidate MCCAIN make sure you at least know how to spell his name. it's McCain not MCCANE. How can your thoughts even be credible if you can't even spell his name. just goes to show that the majority of you McCain people just don't know what you are talking about.
This white girl (and others like me ) is voting for change.... OBAMA!!!!

"He's one John McCain in front of white Republicans. And he's a different John McCain in front of Hispanics"... said by someone attending a secret McCain pow wow with Hispanics.

Did you see that McCain has announced that he & Bush raised over $21 million in May? Announced today after his goons attacked Obama yesterday for saying that he wouldn't accept public financing. Hard to say if McCain will accept public funding in addition to the private, he's so slippery. Don't forget that he signed up for the public money in the primary to get a loan and waivers of various voting rules only to renege when things turned brighter for him.

Lots of Obama supporters will be at the White House door if Obama is elected:

The Black Panthers
Al Qaeda
Jane Fonda
Jesse Jackson
Michael Moore
Al Sharpton
Muslim-American Society

Radicals, terrorists, anti-Americans, crooks, muslims, and crackpots.

I am an ardent Obama supporter. I came to this site to read all the negative things that would be said about Obama by her supporters. Instead I found more dribble from us about Clinton. Blogging should be done to improve the chances of the candidate you support, Obama does not attack his opponents, he only counterattacks or speaks about issues and makes contrasts. That is what we should be doing. The nasty stuff hurts not helps. Or is it the invasion of Republican trolls?

Honorable man VS car salesman

PLEASE WAKE UP AMERICANS....A vote for the car salesman is a vote for REZKO, Wright, Ayers, and Farahkhan...He is an empty suit; he can say anything to get elected. This rookie is a big PHONY, ELITIST....etc.....

Remember Muslim's sons are for life. Blood is sticker than water. He can run but he can not hide.

Please don't be fooled by a car salesman. ....As a patriotic American; we deserve an honorable man like Sen. McCain.

Hillary needs to do to Obama what Monica did to Bill if she wants any place in the democratic party. She needs to ware out the knees of a few pantsuits first.

Clinton's few days is a very gracious thing that she did for Obama. She got off the stage completely to give Obama 100% focus from the public, media, her supporters. He is supposed to stand on his own, makes his move to gain their support without her being his face. Loose or win her supporters is his credit. Don't blame her if he can't win them. Take responsibility for your own action, for a change!

You Obamabots are so pathetic. You really don't get it. Why on earth would millions of Americans not vote for an elitist, far-left, sexist, racist, inexperienced typical politican? Must be sour grapes or racism. Yea right. If you would just lay off the kool-aide and get your heads back into the sunshine you might actually understand the force growing everyday to NOT elect your Precious. To top it off you idiots can't figure out how to graciously accept the far better candidate and her support to your kool-aide cause. What a joke. Independent status never looked so good. Go McCain! A man of integrity, patriotism (not just in an ad) and one we can trust. Obama has flip-flopped more on his "promises" than even Bush! Unbeleivable! I, and millions of other bitter, hard-working, educated, "sweeties" are telling you and your selected won to kiss our royal PUMA arses.

I guess I'll be able to stomach anything as long as she's not his VP choice. But why do I still get the feeling that she and Bill are plotting something behind Obama's back? Beware!!!

What is it with you people. The woman has gotten out of the way and is now genuflecting to the nominee the way she should. Is there nothing that will every please you? Just like those of you who booed in Michigan the other day at the mention of her name. There is nothing like being vindictive in victory.

It's hard to call this kind of move but it may be that "Thud" is right. A campaign is tactical as well as strategic.

Whatever Obama supporters may have against Clinton supporters (and vice versa), it's long past time to get on with electing a democratic Congress and democratic President, and if Senator Clinton can contribute to that election campaign process so much the better. There will be time enough to write the history of this election year (and primarily the primaries) after the dust has settled.

In the meantime if someone wants a good look at American politics from an insider, try Henry Adams' "Democracy". It's interesting how much still applies a century and a half later.

Keep cool this summer, yours

I knew Hillary would do the right thing and campaign with and for Obama.

Barack Obama is the most promising and exciting politician in a generation, and Democrats will come together to defeat McBush. Trust that.

To those who say that Senator Clinton has done nothing to help Senator Obama, I disagree. As the primary ended, there was at least as much talk about her as there was about her as there was about him. This contributed to partisan in-fighting. Senator Clinton stepped out of the way to allow the differences between Democrats and Republicans go on display between Senators Obama and McCain.

By removing herself from a news cycle, she promoted Senator Obama's position as the nominee. Now, she can appear as a strong force for the Democrats at his side.

It's funny to me how it seems that people are jumping on the whole "Obama's flip flopping" theme. Is a person not allowed to change their mind or realize that perhaps an alternate route will prove a better course?
I'm sure we mostly wish that Bush would have flip flopped his decision to invade Iraq or the supreme court would have FF their decision to install him as president in the first place... Obama is not changing his stance on the war or health care. He's changing the way he's going to get $$. BFD

Hillary, you have certainly taken your time, for someone who promised to do everything possible to make sure Obama is elected.

Fortunately, whether you actually uphold your promise is moot. Most of your supporters have already realized that supporting McCain would be foolish and self-destructive.

And your supporters are neither.

So, whenever it happens, Hillary: welcome aboard!

Obama needs to sit down and do a fireside chat of seriousness, explain to Americans that had he known before he ran that he was not supposed to win, that the whole election process is a sham, that HRC had paid-off or bullied all the people that mattered and that now the forces that be in the Democratic Party were standing in the way of a Democrat being elected... the principle being HRC herself and all her minions of otherwize known as sore losers.

I believe Hillary is a shrewd politician, and will not do anything to help Obama...Unless she can get must of the money she loaned herself (old money from Whitewater scandal). I would not trust her at all. By now, many of her supporters should be able to see now what type of human being she's.

"Appearing with her sounds like he condones all those lies she told during the primary to garner votes."

Yeah, well how about all the "little white lies" Obama dishes out to garner votes such as first Obama agreed with McCane he would use public funds, and he goes on the high road and changes his mind. How about the Rev. Wright, Revko, the priest, all a big WHITE lie spoken by a black and white man. Did he not lie about his associations to garner votes? Did he not throw his white grandma under the bus to garner black votes with the comment about "a typical white person..."? Give it a break, whether you voted for Clinton or not, it's not about Senator Clinton anymore. Obama's lies are his, and his alone. Obama claiming he is above the frey he is a typical politician just like the rest of most of our elected leaders, only some are worse then others and Mr. Obama is at best, the worst. This is exemplified with the many times he comes out with denial comments about "...he was not like then when I knew him..." Or, the most recent one about not allowing Muslum women to sit behind him during a speech and then blaming this on a low-level worker or volunteer.

I definitely plan to go to a Third Party next November.

Clinton attorney was busy in Los Angeles Court in May. Obviously Hillary must know what is going on with the proceedings. Wonder if she shares with Obama. Wonder, too, how much of his Independent and Republican voter support he will be losing~ya know, all that "guilt by association" stuff. Appearing with her sounds like he condones all those lies she told during the primary to garner votes. The Independents are not going to like this and will most likely go third party in Nov.

Welcome one welcome all aboard the Obama Change We can Believe in express. As a maxed out contributor to team Obama I welcome the help from Hillary and her supporters. None of us can afford to suffer through four more years of George W. Bush even if claimed to be Bush light by Mc Cain. Our country desperately needs to regain in its footing on the world stage and get back our moral values. WE need a President who would honor our troops by voting for Jim Webbs GI Bill, who would insure we don't move the supreme court any further right, that can right our economy and the huge divide between the have too much and the don't have at all, a Presdient who will move us toward universal health care. Vote Obama so that WE CAN. SI SE PUEDE

About time something like this was scheduled. It was getting awkward being weeks after she dropped out an still no public appearances together. And the announcement certainly takes some of the attention away from the financing flip-flop...

Only question now is where will the event be?
