Obama Calls on Bill Clinton for Campaign Help

By Jonathan Weisman
KANSAS CITY, MO. -- Presumptive Democratic presidential nominee Barack Obama reached out to recalcitrant former president Bill Clinton this morning, speaking for 20 minutes to the husband of his vanquished foe and asking him to campaign for and with the senator from Illinois this fall.

Obama spokesman Robert Gibbs said, "I believe he's excited to do it."

Obama placed the call when his campaign plane arrived here ahead of a speech on patriotism. The conversation would have taken place earlier, Obama aides said, but Clinton was in Europe last week.

"Senator Obama had a terrific conversation with President Clinton and is honored to have his support in this campaign. He has always believed that Bill Clinton is one of this nation's great leaders and most brilliant minds, and looks forward to seeing him on the campaign trail and receiving his counsel in the months to come," said Obama campaign spokesman Bill Burton.

Bill and Hillary are moochers and are ready for a long awaited retirement. They have greedy, manipulative personalities . Hilary has destroyed and managed to segregate, you the people against each other. Get rid of them once and for all. There will not be change soon. You're suffering has just begone. Start facing the facts.
More of your brave young men and women will die for nothing, more will loose there homes, jobs, gas and fuel prices will never come down. Oh! The struggle is just beginning, so why worry about the Clintons? If you have a God I would start praying.

Tell the Clinton's to go away. They only help the Republicans now - which is why the republicans support them so much.

Obama has flip flopped on every major issue, FISA, NAFTA, CAMPAIGN PUBLIC FINANCING, ETC... sending his left wing net root supporters in to a major tailspin. My inbox is spilling over with angry lefties. Wow. They actually foolishly believed the media driven drivel of Obama's "new politics" "hope" "inspiration" "better angels" etc. LOL. Obama's the slimiest politician ever. Obama swims with the rats who inhabit the political sewer of Chicago, remember THAT.

REALITY BITES.

Bill Clinton is the man, always has been and always will be.

Hillary Clinton is the woman, she will be a GREAT President one day. If the Dems foolishly nominate an unelectable Obama, vote for McCain now and Hillary in 2012.

Why would Obama even consider helping Clinton pay her debts. She almost ruined him during the campaign. She is not honorable.

Posted by: anonymous | June 30, 2008 6:22 PM | Report abuse

Vote Obama. He is the only person who can clean this mess up. He's the best hope for us all.

I just read LG's pathetic piece on her assessment of the political situation. I imagine she is not educated, over 50 and part and parcel of the "population" that Hilliary Clinton flummoxed during the campaign. Otherwise, he/she would realize the reality. Hilliary Clinton ran the most slimy campaign imaginable. She played the race card, gender card, the I'll lie until I'm caught card (bullets overhead), the upside down thinking card. She single handedly tried to ruin Barack through the worst tactics I've ever seen. She has no shame. She has no integrity. She is all about power and all about herself. If she were president, it would be about power and all about herself. She is really not presidential material. Neither by temperment or leadership ability.

What she did was devolve the campaign into a NOW issue, because somehow women wanted a "woman" president (the gender card). So, she played it up royally to the UNEDUCATED, over 60 crowd..because she knew that was her only "crowd." To me, it was rather sad. Most women would LOVE a woman president, but one who appeals and is ready for the job without pretense and baggage. The notion of woman qua woman is outdated and so yesterday.

I think it is to Obama's credit that he could overcome this slime and stay steady throughout it all. This is one aspect we need. A clear thinker. And, not it's all about me.

LG really needs to take a deep breath and review her history and current events carefully before she reaches such erroneous and upside down conclusions.

Obama is no good for his word. He would break any promise or pledge to get a vote. He will never make change...he is a lair and there is no other truth.

Bill and Hillary Clinton are the greatest political success story in the Democratic party since FDR and Eleanor Roosevelt.

Barack Obama's audacity to attempt to denigrate a former two term President (the ONLY two Democratic since FDR) of his OWN party is repulsive and unforgiveable. Obama owes Bill Clinton, Hillary Clinton, Geraldine Ferraro and ALL Americans an apology for his continual interjection of racism, classism, sexism, and voter disenfranchisement into this 2008 campaign debacle.

Obama has destroyed the Democratic party.

Obama is unqualified and unelectable.

If the Democrats foolishly nominate the PRESUMPTIVE nominee Obama, and he does not politically implode BEFORE the end of August at the DNC convention in Denver, (here's hoping) vote for John McCain and work for Hillary in 2012.

Hillary will be an amazing President one day. Hillary made history by winning MORE votes than Obama and MORE votes than ANY candidate of ANY party in history.

Put your country first and party second.

Barack Obama is very gracious considering all the slandering and dirty games that the Clintons played with. Obama has come off as honorable and a man with values. We are Obama supporters and believe that he is the man of the hour, the man worthy to be the next president of America. Vote for Obama! Go WhyObama08.org!!!

Yeah, I'm just your typical bleeding heart, Ivy league, eastern liberal white guy but it does occur to my pointy head that...

If Hillary's 18 millon supporters each gave her a buck....

Or if 10% of them, 1.8 million, each gave $10...

Or if just 1% of them swore off Starbucks for the next month and gave $100...

Then the rest of us wouldn't have to hear about this nonsense and we can get on with the business of winning the White House, cleaning up DC, and turning the democratic platform into meaningful laws for a better econom, national security, health care, the environment, and education.

Hillary should be fighting for the American people, not her bank account/vault.

Those people made $100m over the last 8 years and will make more over the next 8, now that Bill knows how to play the game.
How much is enough?

I know I've had enough of the Clintons.

Hillary can pay her own debt and still have way more left over than 99.99999999999% of us.

Bill and Hillary trying to blackmail Obama like this is a pretty standard Clinton scumbag move.

Without the Clintons, the democrats would be in much better shape this year.

Posted by: Anonymous | June 30, 2008 5:03 PM | Report abuse

I hope that all of us that can will do our best to help Hillary Clinton pay off ALL of her campaign debt quickly. She deserves that. You all knew Hillary, and Bill would go out on a limb for us if they felt they had too. That's what they do. :-) As I said before Hillary Clinton was STUNNING!!!

You witnessed the greatest political campaign struggle in American history. One for the textbooks, and the history books. Hillary Clinton fought her heart out against all odds to win for all of the American people. While at the same time doing her best to prepare Sen. Barack Obama to win in November if he was the nominee. STUNNING!!! WELL DONE HILLARY CLINTON. WELL DONE! Your AMAZING! :-)

Sen. Obama could not have had a better opponent than Hillary Clinton. Nor could he have had a better opponent to prepare him for the battle royal to come against John McCain and the Republicans ahead of the November elections. Hillary Clinton was like a big Mama cat determined to teach her kitten how to hunt, and hang with the big dogs for the fights ahead. The Clinton's have won the Whitehouse twice before. They know what it will take.

Hillary Clinton took Sen. Obama to every brawl, and cat fight she could find for him to develop his fight, and his chops. She even let her men (President Clinton, Governor Rendell, and many others) loose on Sen. Obama a little bit. So as to give Sen. Obama a taste of just how rough, and tough the big boys will be to do battle with. :-)

From sea to shining sea and US territories Hillary Clinton took Sen. Obama to see all of America. To meet, and greet all it's people. And to ask for their votes and support, which he will need if he becomes President. She took him to see what he will be fighting for. And to see what she and President Clinton have fought so heroically for over so many years. Sen. Obama could not have ask for any better. Nor had any better teachers.

Bill Clinton, Chelsea, Mrs. Rodham, and the whole Clinton team were magnificent. They really showed their metal. BRAVO! TEAM CLINTON... BRAVO!

And YOU! my fellow Americans. I'm so proud of you. And proud to be one of you. You showed what you are made of. And what makes America so great. You never gave up on your Champion Hillary Clinton. Time, and time again you eagerly waited your turn to vote for Hillary Clinton. To raise her up and pass her along down the line to the rest of your waiting fellow Americans.

You never gave up on her. Just as Hillary Clinton never gave up on you. No matter how many times they counted her out. No matter how many times her detractors, and attackers brutally knocked her down. You knew she would get back up and get after it. And when she did you were ready to support her. This is your role model America. AMERICA LOVES A FIGHTER. AMERICA UNDERSTANDS A FIGHTER. AMERICA IS A FIGHTER. I'M PROUD OF YOU AMERICA!

Sen. Clinton looked a little tired her first day back at work in the senate after her history making heroic campaign. She has good reason to be tired. Doesn't she America. But with time and good attention to the basics she, and you will recover. The basics are good well balanced nutrition, hydration, rest, exercise, recreation, POSITIVE! emotional support, and time (the greatest healer of all).

Y'all be good to President Clinton. I never saw a man fight so hard for a woman, and the American people as President Clinton fought for Hillary Clinton, and you. It's going to take Bill a while. No one except Hillary Clinton could have fought any harder than President Clinton did for you.

I imagine President Clinton still remembers how the American people wailed, reached, and cried out for him as he took that last flight home as your President on Air Force One after the 2000 elections. Yes, many of us knew back then what was coming for the American people under a republican administration. Back to living like dumb animals again. Fighting over territory, and scraps of meat. You are dieing like fly's now. Republicans too. But it's ok because some people are making a lot of money off of your needless deaths. :-(

As always, Hillary Clinton, and President Clinton did their best for all of us. It was an EPIC!

YOU MADE US VERY PROUD HILLARY CLINTON! HOLD YOUR HEAD HIGH :-)

WE LOVE YOU. AND ADMIRE YOU...

In the old world of American politics you could lie - and steal - with impunity.

In the new world, not so much.

That is progress.

Wow. The Clintons had the video removed.

Anyhow, MSNBC's Dan Abrams interviewed Eugene Robinson after Bill first explicitly played the race card.

The day of the South Cacalacky primary a reporter asked Bill what it meant that it took two Clintons to square off against Obama. Clinton didn't answer the question, he just reverted to his main talking point which was that Jesse Jackson had won So Carolina.

There had been a lot of little things going on, and the Clintons tried to deny that they were behind it, but that was the first time that there was proof that the Clintons were not going to allow Obama to run a campaign that transcended race. When they figured that they couldn't win the black vote, which they were counting on, they were determined to bring the campaign into the gutter and run their own "Southern Strategy."

Anybody who KNOWS politics knows what they did. Any anyone who is honest with themselves and their democratic ideals knows that it was despicable.

Bob Kerrey, Billy Shaheen, Bob Johnson, Geraldine Ferraro, and Bill were all surrogates for a very interesting, and ironic, campaign.

History will to be kind to the Clintons of early 2008.

Gosh, why doesnt he just leave Bill and Hillary alone and find other people to endorse him. He's still going to lose anyway.

The Clintons were despicable. As was their mafiosa surrogate Ferraro. If you believe the opposite then you are either racist or dumb.

Obama needs to kiss Clinton's arse everyday for the rest of the campaign

ANd Clinton should still say no.

No one has run an uglier democratic campaign that Obama.
He's called CLinton a racist, while it's obama himself who played the race card

Sen. Obama,

Keep your friends close, and your enemies closer.

Just take their advice with a grain of salt. And have someone taste the salt before you do.

The Clintons are such sociopath's that they'd probably like to bring your Presidency down just so they look better in comparison.

That is who they are. That is what they do. It always has been and always will be about what they selfishly want.

Otherwise, the greedy buggers wouldn't be after your - and middle class Americans' - money. They've got more than enough. But they want more....

Nasty, vicious people. Never forget that. The politicians who tell you otherwise; they are the traitors.
