'Hope' Ad Hits MTV and Comedy Central

By Ed O'Keefe
MoveOn.org has purchased ad time on two cable networks popular with younger viewers -- and voters -- to air a spot in support of Sen. Barack Obama. The 30-second message, originally produced for a MoveOn.org contest, will air on Comedy Central and MTV this week.

"It Could Happen to You" features Rider Strong, formerly of ABC's long-running Friday night "TGIF" hit "Boy Meets World," and Amber Benson, a former star of "Buffy the Vampire Slayer." The ad jumps between the two stars and several other young people in what first appears to be an ad promoting safe sex or drug prevention.

"I never thought it would happen to me," says one young man.

"I've been living with it for awhile," a woman says.

"I got it from her," Strong says.

"I mean, this could happen to anybody," says another man.

"I have hope," a third guy states.

The ad was voted "Funniest" by a team of MoveOn celebrity judges in mid-May. The contest's winning submission aired that month on cable networks and broadcast stations in Colorado, Ohio and Wisconsin.

MoveOn intends to spend $150,000 to air the ad this week on the cable channels.

The buys comes partly in response to a Let Freedom Ring message that last week became the first national political ad to air on MTV. MoveOn believes its spot will be the first national political ad to air on Comedy Central.

Don't like Obama, like the commercial

Posted by: George | July 29, 2008 10:09 PM

So,some "Great Uniter" His Majesty King
Barack the First is,when Obama acts like
somekind of immature,naive,inexperienced,
phony teeney booper village idiot rockstar
punk rather then a serious Presidential
Candidate and I find Obama disgusting that
Obama refused to go visit our wounded troops in our US Military Hospital once
His Arrogant Royal Jerkness Obama was told
NO Obama Photo Op and No Damn Using Our
Wounded Soldiers To Make A Obama Photo Op!
So much for the famous Obama Good Judgement. So do I need to even comment on
that ridiculous Rock Star Obama One plane?
No Way Obama in 2008! McCain is 4 points
ahead of Obama as a Direct Result of Obama
Snubbing & Insulting our wounded troops!

.
Many people are still confused about the massive support for "God D*#! America" hussein from the young. Hey, dude, it's simple - we want somebody that appreciates drugs as much as we do! hussein is the MOST LIKELY to legalize the weed, he is the MOST LIKELY to de-emphasize prosecution of drug use, he is the MOST LIKELY to allow "medical" use of marijuana, he is the MOST LIKELY to soften sentences for coke (his favorite refreshment) and he is the MOST LIKELY to abolish the DEA. He's our kind of toker! VOTE YES FOR DRUGS, MAN - IT'S COOL!

I want to contribute to MCain's camp so they can get him some teeth whitener. Those yellow stained teeth are a definite turn off, poor Cindy McCain.

So the BO is now appealing to 16 year olds.
The bar is now getting lower to nearly the right level.

-------------------------------------------

So is it low enough to appeal to Mccain Supporters, or should we lower it further to attract ilk like you?

"Teeny booper"? Yo, fatty, carm down!

Ralph, Ralph

You too need to take your meds you dittohead. Quit listenting to rush.

It's funny how McCain, the honorable veteran and pne who pledged to run an honest and respectful campaign, has ceased to do so. He can't win with his "I am a veteran" routine so now he has to sell himself out, AGAIN, and run a negative campaign on Obama, who has run a respectful campaign against McCain thus far.

All of you Righty dittoheads can say nothing against Obama's policies. You just regurgitate the character assasination routine that you heard on talk radio.

Playa,

I hope you are able to vote because you do speak and think with reason. I see how people like BOB would want to suppress your freedom to think much like they suppress their ability to do so.

Ralph,

Are you as ignorant as the target audience is expected to be for the ad you reference or is this just an act. This is not a put down but maybe it is.

Posted by: Combatting Ignorant Mofos | July 29, 2008 10:50 AM

So I agree with Sandy5274 and I add that it
sure seems like Messiah Barack Obama is too
damn immature,totally inexperienced,phony,
and acts like an overage teeney-booper,with
his gaudy ghetto paint job and huge O tail
757 Slum Liner as well and you damn right
Barack Hussein Obam does owe a Public
Apology To Our Wounded Troops Obama Failed
To Honor And Respect By Trying To Exploit
Them For A Phony Axelrod Photo Op Instead
Of Visiting Them By Himself! If both Sen
John McCain and Sen Hillary Clinton can go
make private visits alone why can't Pompous
Arrogant Arse Barack Obama Do So Too? NOBAMA in 2008! Obama is a total loser!

Obama is at a distinct disadvantage on the media's airing of these ads. Why? Because the media--specifically, cable news channels like MSNBC, FOX and CNN, often air McCain's ads in their political analysis sections, free gratis. McCain's ads are gritty, often laced with acid laden commentary and personal animus. The cable news channels love such ads because they generate controversy.

But, these ads also get the benefit of being aired without benefit of any counter ads other than the rancorous back-and-forth of the pundits. The conservatives are always great ones to talk about firness and balance in media coverage, but when they get advantaged in such an unfair way, they think that is fine.

I blame the media for this. I just think they are less interested in being fair and impartial than they are in generating ratings. MSNBC aired McCain's dirty ad yesterday every hour on the hour. And it was dirty, hateful and soaked with McCain's bile.

I could never vote for McCain now under any circumstances. He is just a filthy, miserable, embittered old dirtbag who is unfit to be President.

His Arrogance Obama has got his gurlyman
phony pompus arse into his guady painted

Germany to Personally Apoologize to our
wounded US Troops for snubbing, and disrespecting them, and for Obama trying to
use and exploit our wounded troops in our
Military Hospital as another Phony Obama
Photo Op until our Military Rightly told
sleazyball Obama NO you cannot uee our
brave wounded for you own political purpose and exploit them for one of your
phony photo ops Obama! So why the Hell can't His Imperial Arrogance Obama go visit
our wounded troops by himself without his

dragging a camera crew to turn it into yet
another photo op here now then? Obama dirty

here on you Barack Hussein Obama until you
go Personally Publically Apologize to them
you disgusting Chicago Democrat Slum Thug.

A McCain ad would have Obama in it because nobody wants to look at McCain's pathological smile. Imagine that grimace glaring at you for 4 years, droning on and on about war with Iran.

Whose pursuit of power is an end in and of itself? We know McCain flips and flops on every issue. We know he can be bribed or we wouldn't have the Keating 5. So what is his story?

Posted by: bill from OH | July 29, 2008 3:59 AM

Playa, I hope you aren't old enough to vote or aren't registered because you clearly live in a fantasy world. Also, stop playing the race card for no reason. Seriously.

Posted by: Bob | July 29, 2008 1:45 AM

If it were a McCain commercial, it would be filled with hate, lies and a picture of the burning twin towers. And the McCain people never lose an opportunity to interject race, i.e., don't vote for the black man, he'll sell out America to the terrorists type of message.

Posted by: playa | July 28, 2008 9:40 PM

Legally, of course, the MoveOn ad does NOT "support" Barack Obama ; )
