Presumptive Democratic presidential nominee Sen. Barack Obama will meet this afternoon with Federal Reserve Chairman Ben S. Bernanke and confer by phone with Treasury Secretary Henry Paulson, as he shifts his attention to what he is calling a national emergency, the economy.

Obama huddled this morning in private with women senators and political leaders in the sprawling Omni Shoreham Hotel. Later today, he is expected to meet with House Democrats on Capitol Hill, the first such meeting since he secured the nomination.

Obama will also meet with Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gilliani of Pakistan this afternoon, before his evening meeting with House members.

There is time for 'LET'S FLIP THAT HOUSE' type testimonial.
Now isn't it.

Somebody has to meet with foreign leaders and deal with the economy. W is completely preoccupied with his pardons list. It's due by 1/19/09 and already numbers in the thousands, including Bush, Cheney, Rumsfeld, Gonzales and the host of crooks in the Bush Adm. Now it is being expanded to cover Ted Stevens, Republican Senator from Alaska. It's a lot of work.

re: "I haven't read anywhere that this guy is meeting with George Bush or John McCain."
The whole point of PM Gilliani's trip to the US is to meet with Bush, which he will have done before he meets Obama.

They are tied together pretty closely. The war and oil prices are directly or indirectly responsible for much of what is happening.

Yet another foreign policy event while the economy goes down the tubes - housing prices plummeting. Isn't it time to shift focus?

Matt

Did you skip the first paragraph??? Now you just sound desperate. Here is the first sentence so you do not miss it again. It is about the economy. You see the names and positions of the men he is meeting with? You just see what you want to see.

I hope you read that...

"Lame-duck" Bush is keeping to himself these days. With the announcement that the FY 2009 Federal Budget will run a deficit of $482 billion, Bush better be hiding.

After seeing how presidential Obama looked last week overseas, newly elected Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gilliani of Pakistan made time to speak with Obama.

I think Obama has to be careful not to come off too presidential-looking before the general election. Even though Bush has been a miserable failure as President the vast majority of Americans still respect the office of the Presidency and understand Bush is still in charge.

At least in another 98 days the Bush Presidency will be over, and the transition over to an Obama Administration can begin.

I'm all for elections and Democracy, but we need Barack in charge RIGHT NOW.

Posted by: F&B | July 29, 2008 10:53 AM

How Presidential is that.....Obama is meeting with the Prime Minister of Pakistan and I haven't read anywhere that this guy is meeting with George Bush or John McCain.
The media is going out of their way to give John McCain a crutch. What they really need to give him is a wheelchair.
