Giuliani Takes McCain Out to the Ballgame

By Juliet Eilperin
Sen. John McCain took in a New York Yankees game today with his friend and onetime primary rival, Rudolph Giuliani, and it turned out that Hizzoner, and not the presumptive GOP presidential nominee, drew the bulk of the crowd's attention.

McCain and the former New York mayor posed with the managers of the Oakland A's and the Yankees about an hour before game time, then signed some baseballs. Initially those in field-level seats yelled "Rudy!", and seemed not to notice McCain, but eventually they started calling out to the senator and asked him to sign baseballs. One young fan in pinstripes and a Yankees cap kept shouting "McCain!" in an effort to win over his attention.

A's manager Bob Geren and Yankees manager Joe Girardi huddled around home plate with McCain, Giuliani and his wife, Judith, for a few minutes. At one point Geren asked McCain about what it's like to run for president, to which he replied: "It's like being in AA [baseball] and all of a sudden you're playing in Yankee Stadium."

Giuliani answered a few questions from a pool reporter as McCain signed balls. Asked what he thought of Sen. Barack Obama's current trip to Afghanistan, Giuliani responded, "I think if you look at Senator McCain's record on Iraq, I don't see how you fail to elect him president. I mean, he was right about Iraq when almost everybody else was wrong. It's turned out that if we had caved, in the way Barack Obama and the Democrats do, we'd now have a defeat.

"And I think the fact that Barack Obama is kind of making his first tour, in essence, of the world, gives you an indication that John McCain is the man with the experience," he continued. "John doesn't have to go for the first or second time to these places. He's been going for 20, 30 years. He knows the world. He understands the world. Without any disrespect to the other side, he's so far more experienced. ... I think the American people are going to take a look and say, 'We have to be very serious about this. The country has a lot of serious problems. We need a man who has experience.' John McCain has that experience."

The reporter, Celeste Katz of the New York Daily News, tried to get a sense of Giuliani's future political prospects by asking whether the media would be calling him "mayor" for long.

"You can call me 'Mayor' for as long as you want. Once you're a mayor, you're always a mayor," Giuliani replied. "You hear all kinds of stuff, but I'm not thinking about anything but helping to get [McCain] elected."

McCain and Giuliani are both where they need to be, out watching baseball! Neither of them fit for doing anything else but be bystanders.
McCain's personal and professional records show nothing to be impressed about.
Let's see; wife #1 stays faithful while he's a pow; wife #1 has accident and ends up with limp while he's messing around with someone else; dumps wife #1 for his rich girlfriend.
Wants to keep troops in Iraq for 50 years but doesn't support improved GI bill for the same troops; confuses Sunni and Shia during interview.
Says he knows "nothing" about economics and proposes tax holiday on gas to win votes; wants to expand offshore drilling and drilling in ANWAR although it would take at least a decade for oil to be produced once found. Wants to make tax cuts for the rich permanent.
McCain is out in the field and cannot find the ball!

As Mayor of NYC Rudy spent a lot of time
chasing headlines. Cannot understand why
the rest of country has as yet to realize
that fact.
His presence and help at 9-11 was minimal
and mostly for publicity which he still
uses it to gain attention from other that know him not.

you want skeletons in the closet????....lol

Obama has a whole graveyard kid!

Obama disqualifies himself to be President of ALL Americans by Elitist comment:

"it's not surprising then they get bitter, they cling to guns or religion or antipathy to people who aren't like them or anti-immigrant sentiment or anti-trade sentiment as a way to explain their frustrations."

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UMkQ6OPi3RU

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=krztzebJgMc&feature=related

oh..it gets better! this is what his buddy the "reverend said about America:

"America is still the No. 1 killer in the world. . . . We are deeply involved in the importing of drugs, the exporting of guns, and the training of professional killers . . . We bombed Cambodia, Iraq and Nicaragua, killing women and children while trying to get public opinion turned against Castro and Ghadhafi . . . We put [Nelson] Mandela in prison and supported apartheid the whole 27 years he was there. We believe in white supremacy and black inferiority and believe it more than we believe in God."

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nH5ixmT83JE&feature=related

My grandmother, God rest her soul, had a phrase I have NEVER forgotten, she used to say to me:

"Dime con quien tu andas y yo te dire quien tu eres...!"
("You tell me who your friends are and I will tell you who YOU are..")

She was very smart, and she was right.

Associations shows beliefs! ...associations shows what kind of people you have chosen to be part of! ...Association shows what your principles are and what you want to be next to!

ALL that crap that "guilty by association" is not right is baloney...it IS correct! As social creatures, we ARE what we chose to associate ourselves with, been that part of Democracy, Freedom or hate and/or bigotry from the "right" or the "left"! ...and yes, there is big time bigotry on the "left" too! They can be as inflexible, and set in their ways and views as the extreme right wing can be too!

When I talk about association, I talk about NOT race, NOT country of origin, but association!... which is a free choice to be part of something or some group. And for someone to be for 20 years!!!....not 1 or 5 or even 10, but 20 years associated with an extremist like the so called reverend is a CLEAR indication, as clear as it can be, that Obama thinks like that too.

and on and on and on...

so all of you voting for Obama think again who you are voting for... lol....!

it is KNOWN to everyone that REALLY knows Mccain that he is a genuine person, and NOT like Bush....

in fact he has gotten in big fights with even his own Republican party over principals and issues, and has even crossed party likes to work with Democrats like Ted Kennedy to get things done!!

yoy want to point to the partisan politician in all of this????

...look at your "guy" Obama!!!!!, who has NEVER crossed party lines, and has NEVER fought with his party over anything...ALWAYS in lockstep with the Democrat party even if they are going over a clift....! Obama and THAT mentality is wrong for America!

In spite of neocon comments here to the contrary, Obama has taken the high road and not slammed McCain for his shoddy military record, his foul treatment of his wife and her run-ins with the law over theft of drugs from her own foundation intended for poor people. McCain and the repubs should be VERY careful about their negative ads and speech. If all the skeletons in McCain's closet reach the main stream media, would those holier-than-thou rightwingers still be acting as if he's the holy grail?

How nice that McSame and Ghouliani can sit together at a ballgame while our troops are sweltering over there in Iraq and Afghanistan..... Sweet.... I want to add another issue to McSame's resume that wasn't included above. McSame left the Navy after the Navy made it clear to him that he would not be promoted to Admiral. McSame was desperate to follow in his dad's and grandpa's shoes. After the Navy's rejection he decided to go into "public service". He's so desperate to become president because it's the only way now he can one-up the family legacy.

Nice to see Mr. Giuliani turning a nice Yankee baseball game over the weekend into a campaign event and platform to get his sound bites out to the media about John McCain. I'm not saying anything against McCain, I think his party will pay the price in Nov 2008 for the sins of the last 8-years, Mr. Guiliani should know better. By all means, go see a ball game with Mr. McCain, he has every right to. But then to make these off color comments about his guest's campaign rival speaks volumes about him and his lack of character. He didn't even have to go here, just being seen with Mr. Guiliani in NYC is going to make your stock jump, no need to make stupid comments too. Was Mr. Bloomberg there at the game with group? Probably not, he's smarter than that...

It is one thing to disagree with him, but you so completely demean yourselves and your candidate by this stuff that you've turned me from a reluctant supporter of McCain to a strong advocate-against Obama (who tolerated and encouraged the same stuff against Clinton). And even if Obama wins, your stridency and hate is creating the seeds of a backlash that will cripple his administration. So go ahead, children-make my day.

McCain and Giuliani have a lot in common. They both exploited the tragedy of 9/11 for personal gain and political advantage. They both changed previous positions and kneeled before the extremist elements in the Republican party in a shameless effort to get votes.

And, they both left their previous wife and their children to run off with a younger woman and betray the vows they took on their wedding day. What a sad pair.

This is where you blow it big time. Any pilot with an IQ of room temperature can get an A-4 Skyhawk out of trouble if he screws up. Especially over enemy territory.

If you are going to make an outrageous charge like this then you are the one obligated to substantiate your claim. All the existing evidence supports the almost unaninmous version that you are denying. These types of military records are known to be very truthful and accurate.

I heard Oliver Stone is looking for new scripts however.

And yes I am voting for Obama.

Even Arnold Schwarzenegger, a supporter, said that Mr. McCain's latest panacea for high gas prices, offshore drilling, is snake oil -- and then announced his availability to serve as energy czar in an Obama administration.

In a single 24-hour period in April, Mr. McCain went from saying there's been "great economic progress" during the Bush presidency to saying "Americans are not better off than they were eight years ago." He reversed his initial condemnation of mortgage bailouts in just two weeks.
In February Mr. McCain said he would balance the federal budget by the end of his first term even while extending the gargantuan Bush tax cuts. In April he said he'd accomplish this by the end of his second term. In July he's again saying he'll do it in his first term. Another Con Moron leader.

9. All Republicans in Congress voted to release government records of POW/MIA on Vietnam, only 1 person blocked it, Old McBush. Why did he want those records sealed?
10. Wouldn't the Navy wash his records? His father and grandfather were both 4 star admirals in the Navy.
11. How did he receive medals which required 2 eyewitnesses when there were none?
12. How did he get 28 medals in less than 20 hours of combat? Did his 4 star admiral father help him? Some grunts fighting on the ground for 7000 hours received no medals

"I don't know if he would recognize the Republican Party today," Alison Goldwater Ross, a registered Democrat and granddaughter of the 1964 GOP presidential candidate, told The Huffington Post. "I'm sure if we were to raise his ashes from the Colorado River... he would be going, 'What? This is not my vision. This is not my party.'"

Such bewilderment, Ross offered, would extend to McCain, the man who took over Goldwater's seat in the Senate in 1987 and currently is the GOP standard-bearer. The two Arizonans clashed on several occasions during their political careers. Goldwater, as documented in "Pure Goldwater," a book by the Senator's son Barry Jr., was depressed and angered by McCain's involvement in the Keating Five scandal. Later in his career, a rift developed between the two after McCain used Goldwater's name -- without his permission -- for fundraising purposes.

"My grandfather felt that he was deceived by McCain," she said. "Because he looked at McCain and said, here was this young guy who has a lot of potential in the Republican Party, who is coming through the ranks, and then he pulled something like this. My grandfather had to ask, 'Is this something I want to be close to?'"

That Goldwater's grandchild says McCain doesn't represent her grandfather's political tradition is not an insignificant revelation. McCain has, in the past, acknowledged a deep desire to impress the elder Goldwater and continue his conservative legacy. In his memoir, "Worth the Fighting For," McCain said of his predecessor: "I admired him to the point of reverence, and I wanted him to like me.... He was usually cordial, just never as affectionate as I would have liked."

And on several occasions, McCain has deliberately taken steps to position himself as the inheritor of the Goldwater revolution. In the final speech of his "biography tour," McCain traveled to the historic Yavapai County Courthouse, a location where Goldwater started all his bids for office.

The reality, some observers claim, is that McCain and Goldwater are two contrasting breeds of Republicans. Ideologically, Matt Welch writes in "McCain: The Myth of a Maverick," the two have a fundamentally different idea about the role and scope of the federal government. But, on a broader level, the Republican Party as a whole has shifter drastically away from Goldwater's vision.

"I think, at the end of my grandfather's career, first of all he would be looking at what state we are in today with what Bush has done, and I think he would be just incredibly appalled," said Ross. "I think his head would be spinning. How in the world did we get ourselves in this state? How did this happen? What went wrong? Where did this Republican Party go?"

On the issues of Iraq, women's rights, and the separation of church in state, Goldwater's granddaughter says the gulf between Barry and McCain is vast.

"I don't think my grandfather would ever pander to the religious right like McCain did. That would get him angrier than anything. He believed in the division between church and state, he fought that constantly. And these guys are getting in there... religion is a wonderful thing but it does not have any place or purpose in politics," she said. "My grandfather was for women's rights. The idea that my body is mine, and what I want to do with it, I will do with it... McCain isn't of that mindset."

So, whom would Goldwater support if he were alive today? Ross, whose dissatisfaction with McCain was first expressed on the website of BraveNewFilms, wouldn't say. But she herself is "leaning towards" Sen. Barack Obama, despite believing that Sen. Hillary Clinton has gotten the short end of the stick in terms of press treatment because of her gender.

"Hillary, you know, was a Goldwater girl. And she has this great tenacity," Ross said. "Unfortunately, she has been directed in some ways that haven't really worked for her campaign... I really like what Obama is representing. I like the fact that if he becomes our next president, the walls will come down; people around the world will view the U.S. as a more enlightened, open-minded country. It will be, overall, an extremely positive mood."

Please read "Free Ride: John McCain and the Media"
by David Brock and Paul Waldman

What the media will not report about John McCain:

In 1999, McCain said, "I would not support the repeal of Roe v. Wade, which would then force X number of women in America to [undergo] illegal and dangerous operations."

By 2006, he said its repeal "wouldn't bother me any." And last month, McCain's campaign indicated that he would no longer continue his long-held support for adding rape-and-incest exceptions to the GOP platform plank that opposes abortion. This is as extreme a position on abortion as exists in American electoral politics.

Most strikingly of all, the man who was repeatedly tortured by the Vietnamese has backpedaled even on the issue of torture by American officials. In 2005, he inserted language into the Detainee Treatment Act that Bush disliked because it forbade the military to use some methods of interrogation. The next year, after the Supreme Court had rebuked the Bush administration positions on detention in its Hamdan v. Rumsfeld decision, McCain fought the administration for long enough to receive favorable attention in the press. But he finally declared--in a much-discussed "compromise" with the administration--that he was satisfied with the infamous Military Commissions Act, which contained provisions that prevented prisoners from challenging the basis of their detention. The bill gave the White House the power to ignore the Geneva Conventions if it wished to.

The record, then, shows five serious shifts of position--four of them on some of the most contentious issues before the country, and one, on campaign finance reform, which was once the accomplishment most closely identified with him. Surely any other politician with this record would have been called a "flip-flopper" (he does appear to have remained consistent on global warming, whose existence he acknowledges and which he says he would address). The book by Brock and Waldman provides much critical insight into the important question of how the press failed to deal with McCain's actions.[3] They note that not only were no accusations of inconsistency made, but by and large the press shielded McCain from any such charges after the Military Commissions Act passed:

Yet in the week or so between the announcement of the "compromise" and the more thorough analyses of the final product, McCain seemed to disappear from the story. Though he had received reams of praise while the negotiations were going on, once the bill's details were revealed, hardly anyone in the news media held McCain accountable for his role in its creation.

McCain likens going from a primary campaign to the general election to going from AA-baseball to playing in Yankee Stadium. Okay.
Except AA-ball is still pro play. But, his comment does help explain the amateur-hour feel of his present campaign performance.
Mom, Apple Pie and McCain...blast the evil liberals. And, wave lots of flags!!Boy, that's original. That's leadership?
If good 'ole Captain America doesn't know what to do, how is his campaign supposed to know? Someone over in the McCain camp(maybe Charlie Black, maybe Karl Rove) needs to figure out why it is McCain's running for president....and let him know. We already have enough American flags.

Since Obama has been away, for two days now, McCain and his team are getting the best coverage of their veiws without criticism from the Obama team. Wait till Obama gets back and he will be in the spot light again, things will change. Leaders need to be in front and at the heim of the potental greatness that could be, I get that from Obama. When I think of McCain I think of stratagies that just get by.

McCain, bless his heart, has bumbled about the planet for 50 years, and still can't tell Sunni from Shia. Sure, he makes frequent trips to talk with the commanders on the ground. He doesn't know what ground he's on, but he likes to talk to it. Obama speaks to commanders frequently too, but he knows how to use the telephone.

It's sad that the uber-reicht have put McCain in this position, but they needed a nice guy to run up the petard so the electorate would think they had something to choose from. In fact, we don't. Count my lips: BushCO (inc.) will have exercised the special provisions of the Patriot Act by early January, and this whole election cycle will be for naught; but it sure will enrich the coffers of the corporate media.

I think the analogy McCain uses is appropriate.

McCain is minor league baseball, and he's been there his whole career, never earning much more in terms of responsibility... not talented enough.

Obama is the guy who graduates and goes as a first round draft pick, mopping up the floor with all the rest from day one.

Who's the better qualified player? We all know the answer to that. And so do the people who hire these young sports stars, forking out millions and millions of dollars a pop.

Thanks McBush... you're right... you're Bush league material and always will be.

McCain thinks the difference between Congress and the White house is like the difference between AA baseball and Yankee Stadium.

I say the difference between McCain and Obama is like the difference between the Special Olympics and the real Olympics.

But that won't stop the corporate media from "fair and balancing out" the playing field for "Special" Republican candidates like McCain by not reporting on them (most news stories are negative).

It's just sad that year after year we have to pretend like the two candidates are at all equal in terms of intellect or common sense... much less competency. And so... with our trumped up two party system, we go on pretending like the last 8 years were inevitable.

Republicans sure are against "Equal Opportunity"... until you consider the fact that their disabled candidates basically rely on it constantly from our corporate media.

If we had a truly fair and balanced corporate media, all of McCain's dirty laundry would get aired, like it was with Obama... and it would suffocate his party, probably to death.

I saw that, it was sad as Giuliani half heartedly had to talk about Mccain. He only seemed enthusiastic when he was talking about himself. He doesn't even seem like he likes Mccain. When he was knocking Obama it sounded so insincere you thought he may actually like Obama better then Mccain.
