Lieberman Appearance at Hagee Conference Sparks Objections

By Michelle Boorstein
A close adviser and advocate of Sen. John McCain is set to make an appearance tonight in Washington, D.C., with Texas megapreacher Pastor John Hagee -- a man McCain disavowed in the wake of controversy over inflammatory comments Hagee had made about Jews and Catholics.

Sen. Joe Lieberman, an independent from Connecticut, is scheduled to speak at the annual conference of Christians United for Israel, a group Hagee founded to gather evangelical Christian economic and political support for Israel.

American Jewish skepticism for Hagee and other Christian Zionists has long been high, but now a new Jewish peace lobbying group is trying to draw a brighter line. Yesterday, a campaign called "Don't Go Joe" organized by the group J Street delivered more than 42,000 signatures to Lieberman's office, asking him to cut ties with Hagee.

J Street and its allies note that the vast majority of American Jews support a two-state solution for Israel and the Palestinians, something Hagee believes God opposes. Hagee believes an end-time narrative that requires Jews to relocate to Israel before Jesus returns and they convert to Christianity. A new J Street poll of 800 American Jews found that 78 percent oppose forming alliances with Christian Zionists whose support for Israel is based on an end-times scenario that involves converting Jews.

"We will not allow such unholy alliances as Senator Lieberman's relationship with Hagee ... to go unchallenged for the sake of political convenience," said Jeremy Ben-Ami, executive director of J Street.

Lieberman spoke with the group at its D.C. meeting last year, as well.

God will surely bless Joe, he puts his money where his mouth is.
The Bible says you will be ridiculed by the unbelievers and it sure has come true here.
God gave Israel (all of it) to the Jews.
End of story.
Who are we to go against God's word?

it seems that sen. Leiberman is the only one that is trustworthy from the dems. the rest are just interested in votes. and they'll give away, confuse, destroy this country to get those votes. God bless Joe Leiberman for standing up and doing the right thing and not laying down to the Deans and Reids political agenda. it should be WE THE PEOPLE who are represented....NOT...WE THE PARTY

loennitram made reference to my earlier comment regarding the Godless, secular loons of the left. He tried to use the typical whacked out leftist trick of injecting some biblical reference to question the truth of an argument. Plenty willing to use the left's "political correctness" as long as he is protected by many layers of electronic bs. Probably sitting in some queer bar near a campus.

The facts are still clear; Obama, Soros, Gore, Kennedy and the left hate the free enterprise system, have no regard for the ability of individuals to decide for themselves what is best.

If we elect this dumbed down product of affirmative action, then we stand a good chance of ending up enslaved to these fools just as our forefathers were enslaved to the King of England.

IN THE GRAND SCHEME OF THIS GENERAL ELECTION JOE LIBERMAN MEANS VERY LITTLE IF ANYTHING. NOBODY, EXCEPT SENATOR McCAIN TRUSTS HIM ANYMORE, HE HAS TURNED AGAINST HIS PARTY AND WITH A "NOTHING ELSE MATTERS" BUT ISRAEL, HAS TURNED AGAINST THE UNITED STATES.

JOE LIEBERMAN IS A TOAD.

Lieberman is a really strange duck. He seems to not fit in with anyone by his own choice. I have no clue as to what his principles are. When he speaks in front of a microphone I can't help but think of some little white dog wearing a tutu pirouetting around on his back feet.

As far as Hagee goes, he is just another deluded flim flam man following in the footsteps of Garner Ted Armstrong, Billy James Hargis, Wayne Bent, Dr. Gene Scott and a host of extremely entertaining charlatans.

Both these clowns are relatively harmless yet quite entertaining in their own right. Keep the outrageous statements flowing! We love you guys!!!

So confused by the comments on this board...
I think they call it cognitive dissonance.

1. Joe is bad because he will break bread with the anti-christian, anti-semite, nut-case Hagee who is just using jews; Joe is a traitor to his religion and worst, Politically Incorrect and he doesn't care if it pisses you off.

2. Joe (or is it "Jew") Lieberman is bad because he is Jewish, them that killed the christ, and a traitor who places Israel first.

Notice how all of those who hate Joe because of politics have no problem with those who hate Joe because he is a Jew (not that I would want to call them anti-semites, because, you know, "Arabs are semites too").

Can't wait until McCain wins and these hateful Obamiacs cry over another stolen election, one that they helped lose by speaking (writing) their hatred out load.

For the rational people reading this blog, do you really want to vote for the guy that these cranks want to be President? Use these wacky folks as contrary indicators: There must be something seriously wrong with Obama if he attracts supporters like these...

BTW: Are these comments moderated? Is it WAPO policy to encourage hate speech? Or, are these types of comments now considered insightful political commentary? Maybe WAPO should hire a few a columnists?

Joe Lieberman has done it again. First he thumbs his nose at his Connecticut constituents by supporting the war and loses the democratic primary. Now he thumbs his nose at his new republican buddy McCain and at his fellow Jews.

What's with this man? The democrats already despise him and he has now endangered his position as pet turncoat. Not that I would regret seeing him go down in flames, but I do wonder what his rational is.

The only reason I did not vote for Gore when he was running was because Lieberman was running with him. I have noticed that politicians who place their religion before their obligations as elected officials are unpredictable. In this case I was proved right.

Looks like turning over this rock has brought lots of Christian wingnuts out into the daylight! To Hagee and his followers, Lieberman and Israel are just tools to trigger the "end of the world' and the return of Jesus. Stupid, really stupid. And to Lieberman, any religious nutcase is a good companion, so long as he's supporter of Israel. Pathetic, really pathetic.

Guys like Hagee actually DO look forward to the destruction of civilization. If you recall, in the immediate aftermath of 911, Pat Robertson (a similar strain of virus) couldn't resist chortling on his tv show about how we deserved it. I've come to hope that God is higher and deeper than that.

He has endorsed McCain.

He has been kissed by Bush.

He voted for Swift-Boater Sam Fox to become Ambassador to Belgium.

He supported Alberto Gonzales' rejection of the Geneva Conventions.

He co-founded the American Council of Trustees and Alumni (ACTA), a conservative advocacy group, with Lynne Cheney.

Now he's cavorting with Hagee.

The Warmonger Leiberman. This, the voters of Connecticut offer you. Because somebody is responsible for electing this guy.
But it is not a bad point with which to begin serious anti-semetic criticism of Isreali history, zionism, the isolation and exclusiveness of the jewish religion, and the resultant practice of discrimination toward non-jews. It is a good election time to loudly ask the questions: Do we really want to support another military regime in their subjugation of another native minority population? Does all this money americans send to isreal allow it to resist equitable, balanced peace solutions? Are americans majorly responsible for the plight of the palestinians? Why can't isreal live within its recognized borders? When will isreal stop stealing land from its neighbors?
It seems the issue of withdrawal from iraq and the middle-east peace process have the same complextion for Warmonger Joe and his fellow Liars. They say they will withdraw when the conditions are met, but they have no intention of leaving. Ever. Occupation.
The west bank, or iraq? Which? Occupied by war. Supported by americans. Responsibility rationalized away by true people of faith.
Joe's the ultimate polititian, a real product of american politics. And he was only recently re-elected. Choke on it!

I agree with fly, Sen. Lieberman acts and speaks from what he believes in. He believes in the Bible, and he believes what we are doing and have done in Iraq. And I agree, it does say in the Bible that when you follow this path "ye shall suffer tribulation". Sen. Obama never said a word in his church for 20 years, he went along to get along, just like he has done all his life, and he did not suffer tribulation. In fact he became wealthy and a person of stature in his community, and now the "world" is waiting for him. The more I see of Obama, the more I am not only concerned for our country, but the entire free world.

Everyone who claims to be politically savy has failed to observe one very important point. Both Mcain & Liberman deep in their heart have one thing in common and that being bombing countries like Iran, Syria or any other country that disagrees with the way have handled ourselves in recent years. I guess we did not learn what cowboy diplomacy has done to our reputation and economy.

Why neither of them talks about how we conducted business in World war two and why can't we go back to being a liberator as we were in WWII. We had thousands of GIs come back with European brides and that was wonderful!!!

It is wonderful that we have the military might, but very destructive the way we have abused it in recent years.

In this upcoming election we have an opportunity to show the world that we have come to our senses and not support those candidates who would more likely take us into another mess like Iraq. Certainly Liberman & McCain fit this discription

Giive it up!! We, Americans are NOT buying into you slander and lies!! Period!

thebob.Bob calls Hagee and Leiberman religious fanatics.

The real danger to society are the left wing idiots who go off on leaders they don't have a clue about. Just scares them when God's name is mentioned.

This jerk-off along with Obama, Soros, Gore all want a secular America that "speaks correctly" and redistributes wealth, and its citizens bow down to the enlightened rulers. They will give us a schedule to follow....in sickness and health til death do us part.

Is that not the same plan the King of England used before our revolution?

Does anyone really care what the Troll Lieberman is doing anyway? And Hagee? Hey, those two belong together.

If i didn't care about Mr. L before, i don't now.

Hagee is evil. Sell your soul to him Mr. L and take McCain with you.

?hat is up with Lieberman? This guy has a backbone made of that same stuff that is inside a marshmellow heated over a campfire. He really is the King of the Flip Floppers. How does he face himself in the morning when he shaves? He is absolutley disgusting trying to walk down both sides of the street. He is a banana slug of a politician. Yewwwwwwww!!!!!

Leiberman can go to guantanamo. Replace him.

Lieberman is man with dual loyalties. His fanatic loyalty to Israel blinds him to the long-term cost of the US unconditional and belligerent support of Israel, no matter how outrageous their behavior. Does anyone think that our history of the last 62 years would be the same if we were not the guarantor of Israel's survival, no matter the policies of their current government. It has never made sense to me that our position on Israel has never been an appropriate subject for debate among our politicians. This is because of the profound financial and political clout of the pro-Israel lobby in the US. To say this is not "anti-Semitic," which is the automatic response from the lobby To discuss this issue honestly, after all these years, would only be common sense.

Liberman should be arrested for treason and conflicts of interest. Its obvious he puts Israels interests before Americas!

Lieberman has already proved he is a traitor to his political allies, it should be no suprise he treats his spiritual allies with the same disregard.

Yes, yes give me more...Lieberman.

Lieberman is becoming more and more of a sellout, to his Democratic Party and to his Jewish faith.

Yes sir please go Lieberman and offer up some unruly and unpatriotic comments about Obama, so the world can see what you have become.

It appears that Likudniks are making a historic mistake by fawning over the worst sort of reactionary bigots in order to secure a short-term political advantage, namely shoring up Republican support for Israeli obstruction of any sort of fair peace process. It makes me, for one, much less sympathetic to Israel when they suck up to these scum because these people are a direct domestic threat to anyone who doesn't share their religious prejudices, including American Jews. It also isn't exactly a warm endorsement when someone wants you and your kind to move to another country for their "benefit."

Hagee and Lieberman deserve each other. They're both religious fanatics who believe such extreme religious fantasies that they are dangers to society. Haven't we learned that Religious extremism, be it Jewish, Christian or Muslim, only leads to the disaster? Some think that any belief in the irrational superstitions is a sign of mental illness. Certainly, killing people for their beliefs is crazy.

Leiberman (I-Isreal) is part and parcel of the most repugnant aspects of Right-Wing fantasy of domination and exploitation. He has but one (1) guiding principle.... Isreal. As such, the best and only shot they have for spurring and American Iran war is through what ever means necessary. In other words, if Hagee were the Devil himself, it would make no difference, it is about maintaining the Apartied State in the M.E.. I bet he get's a boner everytime a F16 blasts a group of brown women and children.

McCain was kind to let Leiberman go. Usually he wants him at his side.
