Did you hear that Obama is now open to off-shore drilling?

Americans are used to voting against their own interests.
OIL COMPANIES do not want to see their profits decline. Rove and company are making sure that they continue to rule our energy policies. OIL COMPANIES have made sure we do not have an energy policy or an environmental policy.

AMERICANS need to start buying SMALLER CARS, using CAR POOLS and demanding BUS SERVICE to work. No one in the Republican government is going to help you out.
YOU ARE ON YOUR OWN - MY FRIEND!

Here in America, we respect freedom of speech and the right to speak.

Are you kidding me?

Well, LUX, let's start with the basics: is Obama "the biggest celebrity in the world" or not?

A very dubious strategy of the right wing republicans is CONTAIMANATION BY CONTIGUITY. The mere fact that a person is in someway related to a person or persons that have NEGATIVE social connotations in the public mind justifies the most vicious (and stupid) insinuation.
Obama has been the most extreme example of this broad-brush tar and feathering that I remember in my lifetime.

Now we have Brittany, Paris Hilton, and Ludicrous. We have had Reverend Wright, Bernadette Doran, and Bill Ayers etc etc. Each acting as an agent of tainting by association- however unclear or absurd that association is.
The point being that if there is any connection that's it! Barack is guilty by association..
Of what? No releavant, intelligent meticulous connection is ever made.

The right wing seems to think that the average American is so unable to draw relevant distinctions - they can poison the first

The only Real possibility for hope that this imploding democracy has had in a long while may be being trashed,.If it is true that they can muddy obamas image enough to have the public reject him- this leaves us to being piloted into oblivion i by a crazed disconnected Captain Mcinsane.
I doubt our captors will treat us even as well as his captors treated him 40 years ago.

Billiam:

I didn't even make that connection -- there are many other signs Obama is more likely to be the Antichrist than that -- but, are you DENYING that Obama is the biggest celebrity in the world today?

Posted by: JakeD | July 31, 2008 12:10 PM | Report abuse

I hate to say it, but it seems Dubya Clone is taking the typical Republican approach when it comes to his ads.

(That being "it's not a vote for me ad, but why my Democrat opponent is scum.")

Should be in a nursing facility, Songbird McCain should.

Obama does a good job of making McCain look like a total chump.
i read more about this on

Y..go home..your candidate mismanaged her way to a loss... Get to the topic and that is Mccain/repubs ad. Childish and whinney...but it may be a subtle attempt at racial politics like they did to Harold Ford with the blonde bimbo ad!!!!

Posted by: docb | July 31, 2008 10:17 AM | Report abuse

Isn't McCain's ad coded language for "uppity"?

Posted by: Phil | July 31, 2008 10:01 AM | Report abuse

He also offended the group who supports Obama as some kind of starry-eyed fools. That may play well to the Mccain hard cores, but it isn't what you say to someone you are trying to pull to your side. He actually attacks the electorate in the ad. It is not an anti Obama ad, it is an anti "Obama voter" ad. An ad like that just galvanizes the Obama base. Mccain may have the worst PR people in the business

=========
McCain's personal attacks comparing Senator Obama with Britney and Paris - are thoroughly insulting and defamatory.
It is clear that he is an doddering old man, whose faculties are declining. The evidence of declaring something and within a hour having forgotten what he declared, then following up with a contradiction is an indication that the organic loss of intellectual function is a clear and present condition.
It might be safe to forecast that he will choose a VP and forget who he chose and for what reason.

The Obama ad is so well done it is hard to believe they cranked it out so fast. This works, a little neg and a lot of Obama positive. Like it or not, the Mccain people can't seem to match what the Obama team can turn. The original Mccain celebrity ad could have been made by Obama. It was more pro Obama then Mccain. It said:

" My opponent is great and everybody thinks so, isn't that terrible"? "My name is John Mccain and I approve this message".

Is that the message Mccain approves? Where did he hire these PR people from Craigs list?

Posted by: Anonymous | July 31, 2008 7:59 AM | Report abuse

Anyone else find the "he's the biggest celebrity in the world" line a little off/odd?

It's because it's coded language aimed at the evangelical "Left Behind" crowd, many of whom believe that the Antichrist will be a politician who is charismatic and very popular worldwide. It's designed to make them think "might Obama be him?"

Also throws a bit of light on the "The One" nickname.

It's essentially a way to try and turn McCain's lack of charisma into an asset. Argument goes like this: he's more charismatic than me, so between the two of us, he's more likely to be the Antichrist.

A Call for answers from all the Ex POWs who were in Prisoner of War camps with John MCcain in Vietnam and are aware that in the POW camps John MCcain was known as Songbird MCcain. Are there any of you guys out there that keep in touch and can tell anyone inthe American Public Anything about Songbird Mccain's during his time captured as a POW ?? WHAT IS JOHN McCAIN HIDING?WHY did McCain have his records as a POW sealed and classified Top Secret, so they could never be seen? WHY did the North Vietnamese consider McCain a hero?WHY do so many ex-POWs and Vietnam veterans call McCain by the nickname "Songbird McCain"? WHY was McCain treated like royalty by the enemy - and received the very best medical care - for most of his five-and-a-half years as a POW, when many other American POWs ended up dead? WHY won't McCain de-classify his records as a POW?Since MCcain's fellow soldiers were in the camp with him, and saw how he behaved when captured by the Vietcong why can't it be public knowledge ? Why is no one allowed to Declassify and talk about POW prisoner "SongBird MCcain" ?? If the Republicans are too afraid de-classify it - then This is A Call for All the POWs who were in those prisoners of war camp to shed a whole lot of light on why they taunted and nicknamed VietCong Prisoner Mccain "SongBird MCcain"...!!!

Y,

Will you Republicans stop pretending to be Democrats? Come on now. No one's falling for it any more.

I mean, if you insist on this route, at least pay off Hillary's debts for her before you go proposing that she should get our nomination. Unlike Republicans, we can tell the difference between surplus and deficit, and that will probably play a role in our decision.

Woo-hoo! Go Huckabee! Romney, he's my man! McCain STOLE it from them! There ought to be a LAW!

The Obamarama has been a 24/7 media driven dangerous illusion.

The Democrats better wise up fast BEFORE they actually vote on their nominee in Denver late next month. Obama is neither qualified or electable. Superdelegates will decide this nomination as neither Hillary or Obama have earned the required number of delegates out right. The job of the superdelegates is to vote for the best candidate for the general election in NOvember. That candidate is Hillary Clinton

The DNC must open up this convention to include BOTH Hillary and Obama's names placed in nomination, allow speeches by and for BOTH, allow BOTh names on the ballots, allow votes and gasp COUNT ALL THE VOTES! Anything less is not democratic.

Call, write and DEMAND the DNC allow Hillary's name in nomination.

In 1932, FDR came into the DNC convention 90 delegates short of the required number and he won on the FOURTH 4th BALLOT! Isn't that great democracy in action? Let's do it again! Hillary has earned the right to be included, she has already won the popular vote, winning MORE votes than ANY candidate of ANY party in history! Hillary is the best candidate, let's DEMAND that the Dems nominate her! We want to win don't we???? Hillary's the ONLY candidate who can win in November.

It's Hillary or McCain. Country first, party second.

Do you folks see the depth of typical Republican thinking and commentary?

A skinny "fag", huh, "Paris"? What does that actually mean? Do you not have anything more intelligent to offer in this dialog?

You are pathetic with your childish pseudonym and infantile name calling.

The scary thing is that you will probably vote in November.

Mccain is showing how desperate he is. Rhe republicans have no accompishments, merits to run on so as usual resort to dirty campaigning.
The American voters will not believe or support a party run by swiftboaters and devils like Rove.

Any doubt that John McSame is running for Bush's 3rd term have been dismissed by him using W's sleazy campaign tactics. Shameless John is now owned and operated by the same crooks that slimmed his daughter in 2000. As a father, I can't understand how he can face that innocent child.

If Obama's celebrity could bring answers to the world's difficult problems, don't you think that his pixie dust approach would have solved the problems of his black constituents in Chicago. Their still poor, and he's all gone.

I think these ads by McCain will either have no positive effect for him or will backfire. Those who already support McCain may find the ads appealing. Perhaps some of our woefully uninformed voters will also find the ads appealing. But the ads, together with the recent incessant whining from McCain, seem to confirm how little McCain himself has to offer. McCain should tell the voters why they should vote for him, not why they shouldn't vote for Obama. OTOH, the Willie Horton and the Swift Boats Veterans For Truth ads and personal attacks worked very will against Democratic candidates. So, why stop now? For Republicans, what does the truth have to do with anything?

It's about time. Finally, Obama is pushing back against those childish McSleezy ads. McSleezy has gone ugly early. I really hope the American public sees through his crapola...we cannot risk another 8 years of the same old oil and the same old Republican reign.
