McCain Will Share "Tonight Show" Stage with Torres

By Michael D. Shear
How does Sen. John McCain hope to steal some thunder from his rival during the Democratic National Convention?

How does "The Tonight Show with Jay Leno" sound?

NBC announced today that McCain would be a guest on Jay Leno's show on Monday night, the first night of Barack Obama's big show. The 71-year-old presidential hopeful will share the stage with Dara Torres, the 41-year-old swimmer who won the silver medal in Beijing.

The pairing offers endless possibilities. Maybe McCain will offer Torres the Veep spot? (She is, after all, a silver medalist.) A University of Florida Gator, Torres might even lock down Florida for McCain.

McCain has the nerve to talk about Obama being a celeberity, but yet I don't see him turning down any appearances on the Tonight show. McCain judges others for the very same thing that he is doing; this makes McCain a hypocrite. I believe that he is jealous of Obama because he has the smarts, unlike McCain who has said that he doesn't know anything about Economics. In my own opinion, the only thing that he does seem to know is "War" and how many lives he can wipe off the face of the earth.

Ah...who's the celebrity?

Shame on you Mccain. Phony

The thought Barack Obama seated across the table from Vladimir Putin, the House of Saud, Kim Jong Il, or whoever succeeds Musharraf is enough to favorably consider a McCain Presidency.

Being recorded as "present" is not going to get it done in those meetings, or in the White House.

This should be excellent, Dara Torres despises old man John McBush. She thinks he's an unstable warmonger and she's right, he is.

I know Dara Torres. Dara Torres is a friend of mine. Senator McCain, you are no Dara Torres.

McCain is way funnier than Obama to bad!

The Obama Doctrine: Appease, if that fails surrender, and if they still don’t like us still, squeal like Howard Dean and turn around and RUN IN FULL RETREAT!

In terms of stealing thunder, once the NYT follows up on this piece it is going to be al over for Sen. McCain.

http://www.nytimes.com/2008/08/17/opinion/17rich.html?_r=1&ref=opinion&oref=slogin
"“McCain’s personal fortune traces back to organized crime in Arizona.”

The article also suggests that the WaPo is also going to go with the story at some point. Talk about a bombshell.

I wonder why McCain doesn't just step down. Does he think that he can really be elected POTUS when this level of dirt is coming out on him?

I know Dara Torres. She hates Mccain I hope give the old a$$ hole good slap.

McCain wants to pin the "Celebrity" label on Obama? Well one thing says "Celebrity" and that is SHOWBIZ, folks! So let's take a look at John McCain's Internet Movie Database webpage, mmmkay?

The Internet Move Database, which keeps track of the credits of pretty much everyone in the entertainment industry, is a wonderful, well respected resource. In fact it is pretty much THE resource for entertainment - the Wikipedia of the television and movie industry if you will.

Now let's take a look at John McCain's Hollywood IMDb resume.

OK, not much going on with McCain's showbiz career eh?

McCain is a scoundrel.

Maybe Jay Leno will ask McCain why his campaign manager and lobbyist for the Georgian government told the Georgians that they should get tough on the Ossetians? Why would it be in McCain's interest to have Russia invade Georgia?

I see the Post is running McCain's press releases again.

While Michael Shear is peddling the puffball posts, I'd like some help figuring out whether BHO just said the following:

[[[[[[["We are a nation of immigrants." "The only people can say that they aren't immigrants are the people sitting right here," and points to the tribal leaders. "There are some families who have been here for 4 or 500 years. They didn't cross the border, the border crossed them."]]]]]]]

I got that from a liveblog of his comments today, but it isn't clear whether it was him or someone else who said that:

Maybe Michael Shear can take some time out from whatever it is he does and try some real reporting for a change.

what a great image. the excellent athlete who came in just shy of the gold... it was spectacular for her age, but the youngster just beat her out.

Posted by: wow from TX | August 18, 2008 5:55 PM

McCain's handlers will try any gimmick to expose their candidate. On stage with a Olympic medalist will certainly show McCain's advanced age. He will smile, make his 'my friends" comment a time or three and further have his ego stroked while bashing Obama. I suspect many of the usual late show viewers will be reflecting on Michelle Obama's comments and those of the other speakers that night in place of Leno.

This is plain and simple clever politics, there is nothing wrong with it. Obama appeared with Stephen Colbert on the night of the Pennsylvania primary just to spite Hillary.

It's nice to see that "Washington's Biggest Celebrity" (McCain) is still sucking up to the media, I wouldn't want him to have to flip-flop again.

McCain has eight houses, rides around in his wife's private jet and lives off of his wife's $250 million fortune. Don't lie to us about who is a member of the elite, sunnytoppil. And your George Bush, son of a president, grandson of a Ct. Senator and Wall Street investment banker, I suppose he was just a regular guy, too?

Being on with Dara Torres is perfect for McCain! It proves age is only a number.

Posted by: MJ | August 18, 2008 5:24 PM

Lucille, I'll grant you that. While I didn't back Hillary, I'm getting a bit sick of all the "is she really supporting the party" nonsense. No matter who he picks, I'm staying on board.

Here's a blast from the past. Perhaps they can get a tape of Ed McMahon saying "Heeeeres, Johnny" from the 1960's. Appropriate.

Posted by: Cross to Bear | August 18, 2008 5:09 PM

Those Republicans'!! Mean as a snake. McCain is no exception. He is 72 and truly been around Wash. along time. We have to wash ourselves clean of those mean old Republicans. I would love to see Obama pick Hillary for I know that Hillary can go toe to toe with any of them.
