Biden's Web Video Debut as No. 2
By Ed O'Keefe
Sen. Joe Biden makes his Obama campaign video debut today in a message directed at the ticket's volunteers and donors. It arrived in the inboxes of supporters in the form of a fundraising e-mail. The campaign calls the video "short," but at just over three minutes, it's longer than many Web hits. Some highlights follow.
On his life and career:
"I come from a big Catholic family with a strong tradition of service. I'm a member of the United States Senate where I've been chairman of the foreign relations committee, and I've worked on every aspect of U.S. foreign policy. I've also worked very hard on the criminal justice system issues, mostly proudly, I wrote the Violence Against Women Act.
On his verbosity:
"I know I'm known for speaking my mind, hopefully clearly and strongly, but I do it on behalf of the middle class, and I plan to continue that approach in the months ahead."
On Barack Obama:
"One of the many things that impresses me about Barack is how strong and clear his voice is, both as a senator and as a presidential candidate. Along with you, he's breathed new life into our political process."
On his upcoming plans:
"My plan quite frankly is to roll up my sleeves and do exactly what you've been doing: make the phone calls, knock on the doors, talk to new voters and new supporters face to face."
Biden aired four television commercials over the course of his own presidential campaign, according to the washingtonpost.com Political Ads database. Some of his campaign's Web-only video efforts also earned praise for their straight-forward approach, similar to the senator's blunt speaking style.
