Buckeye State Ad Battle

By Ed O'Keefe
As he emerges from his Hawaii vacation, it seems Barack Obama is preparing to escalate the ad wars. A new ad set to air in Ohio hits John McCain for his connections to the potential loss of thousands of DHL Express jobs in Wilmington, Ohio.

"In Washington, John McCain helped pave the way for foreign-owned DHL to take over an American shipping company," the ad starts. "McCain's campaign manager was lead lobbyist for the deal. Now, thousands of Ohio jobs at risk."

"It's tough times," says Morrow, Ohio, resident Ed Rutherford in the spot. "When it's a foreign entity, coming in and sucker punching us. That's how this felt."

Considering the recent wave of American companies in merger or acquisition talks with foreign owners (Anheuser-Busch and American Airlines come to mind) the ad should resonate with Buckeye State voters. Fifty-five percent of the state's voters consider the economy the most important issue, according to the most recent statewide survey by Qunnipiac University.

The McCain campaign quickly responded with an ad that echoed another spot released released earlier in the day:

"It's Obama's taxes that will hurt Ohio families," the McCain response ad says. "His taxes are a recipe for 'economic disaster.'"

Sen. McCain promised Wilmington residents last week that he will ask Congress and the Justice Department to investigate the potential loss of DHL jobs. Obama's Senate office had sent a letter to Bush Administration officials in late July with a similar request.

The latest Obama ad follows the DNC's release of a Web-only video earlier this week on the same issue, an Obama campaign ad in Nevada critical of McCain's stance on Yucca Mountain and another message attacking the Republican's economic proposals.

As McCain's campaign smells more and more of Rove, those of us in Ohio have to remember that we have to actually be able to vote to have a say. Suppression of voter registration, long lines on voting day and voting machine "malfunctions" prevented many thousands of people from voting in 2004--and for some odd reason those problems were almost exclusively in democratic leaning communities. Don't think it wont happen again folks. It worked and no charges were ever brought (although considered)so there is no reason to not try.

Don't be an idiot. Who is President now?? The last time I check, George Bush was president. And the US only has one at a time. The last thing the country needs is one of the candidates running off at the mouth making Bush's job harder. Don't get me wrong, I think Bush is an idiot, BUT he needs room to maneuver and the statement McCain made leaves him very little room.

Check out the growing tumor on McCain's face. I'm not electing a man so riddled with cancer that he can't even publish his medical records.

Obama may not be perfect, but at least he isn't a walking corpse trying to defend his thieving.

Republicans have us at war in two countries as a result of Republican lies and deceptions, and we might be in two more wars--Iran and Pakistan--by November. We have alienated the entire Muslim world and most of the rest.

The dollar has lost 60% of its value against the euro, and the once mighty dollar is losing its reserve currency role.

The Republicans' policies have driven up the price of both oil and gold by 400%.

Inflation is in double digits. Employment is falling.

The Republican economy in the 21st century has been unable to create net new jobs for Americans except for low wage domestic services such as waitresses, bartenders, retail clerks and hospital orderlies.

Republican deregulation brought about fraud in mortgage lending and dangerous financial instruments which have collapsed the housing market, leaving a million or more homeowners facing foreclosure. The financial system is in disarray and might collapse from insolvency.

The trade and budget deficits have exploded. The US trade deficit is larger than the combined trade deficits of every deficit country in the world.

The US can no longer finance its wars or its own government and relies on foreign loans to function day to day. To pay for its consumption, the US sells its existing assets--companies, real estate, toll roads, whatever it can offer--to foreigners.

Republicans have run roughshod over the US Constitution, Congress, the courts and civil liberties. Republicans have made it perfectly clear that they believe that our civil liberties make us unsafe--precisely the opposite view of our Founding Fathers. Yet, Republicans regard themselves as the Patriotic Party.

The Republicans have violated the Nuremberg prohibitions against war crimes, and they have violated the Geneva Conventions against torture and abuse of prisoners. Republican disregard for human rights ranks with that of history's great tyrants.

The Republicans have put in place the foundation for a police state, which they have no problem using against fellow citizens!

We must get the Republicans totally out of power, or we will have no country left for any of us!

Look, friends, I've learned to lie with stats with the best of them and when my people say that the top 1% makes 25% of the money and pays 37% of the taxes you know that we're lawyered up, have swiss bank accounts, have Cayman Island trips that are business and pleasure (and no I don't bring the Mrs!;), and that we make a lot more than that and pay a lot less in taxes. Join us, you sure as hell can't beat us- we're bought the system. From rags to rackets to riches to respectability. We bought the USA, we OWN it. We OWN you too. And the future of your children, who will be paying us off with what they make. Resistance is futile, we'll give you the scraps- but our scraps are bigger than your main courses. BUAHAHAJAJAHAHA!

I, Barak Obama, promise that no one American company will be sold to foreign investors while I am president.

To do that, I will increase taxes on all these same companies, their owners, and stok holders and bleed them dry until they are so completely useless and innefective that no one in their right state of mind will EVER want to buy them.

I am Barak Obama and I endore this message.
