Cable Funnyman Rips Cable News

By Howard Kurtz
DENVER --Jon Stewart ripped the cable news networks Monday as a "brutish, slow-witted beast" and castigated Fox News as "an appendage of the Republican Party."

Wearing a gray T-shirt and a healthy stubble, the "Daily Show" host told reporters that Fox's fair-and-balanced slogan is "a (expletive) you to people with brains" and that only "Fox News Sunday" host Chris Wallace "saves that network from slapping on a bumper sticker . . . Barack Obama could cure cancer and they'd figure out a way to frame it as an economic disaster."

"I'm stunned to see Karl Rove on a news network as an analyst," he said of the Bush White House aide-turned Fox commentator.

But Stewart included CNN and MSNBC in a far-ranging indictment of what he called "that false sense of urgency they create, the sense that everything is breaking news. . . . The 24-hour networks are now driving the narratives and everyone else is playing catch-up."

Diane Finstein can't make the convention due to an ankle facture. I sure hope she is better in time for the Republican convention.

Anonymous, if you want to get it, try and read the print media, both those categorized as left leaning and right leaning, that's where you will get the info needed to be well informed. Jon Stewart on the Comedy Channel. Don't you get it? He's a comedian.

Both candidates don't have the slightest clue or plan for the economy. All great empires crumbled within. Dmath's comment is right on - playing the other side. Where is this getting everyone? Keep in mind you don't have to vote for the party you're registered.

Pleeeeease, who is interested in this true "cable guy" and his opinion.

Having Karl Rove on as a political commentator makes as much sense as having OJ Simpson commentating as a court reporter in murder trials.

They both ought to be talking to each other as cell mates in a federal penitentiary.

MSM wants a close and contentious election as that drives ratings. That's why the angle on both the VP pick and the convention is how it will anger HRC's voters. As a HRC supporter, I appreciate the coverage, but also know we're just feeding them what they want. Back in primary season, the conflict was HRC vs BHO on AA voters and that fed the "racism" narrative and made the campaigns more bitter.

One sign of how bad MSM media is, is that they can talk so much about HRC but not about health care, her signature issue. I don't think I've seen a single minute of discussion about any candidates' health care platform for months.

And just what are the total viewers of the Daily Show? Pleeeeease, who is interested in this true "cable guy" and his opinion.

Posted by: jazzman47 | August 25, 2008 6:27 PM | Report abuse

Jon is right about Fox, but the exact same thing could be said of MSNBC being in the tank for Obama. CNN was only slightly pro Clinton during the primaries, now the are slightly for Obama.

Will Gore steal Dem nomination Thursday night as he may be holding about 100 super delegates' support to deter others and conveniently take advantage of political discontent, chaos and confusion of primaries? As multi-millionaire, will he privatize US governments' programs, infrastructure and jobs for big profit$$$ versus take care of the 80% of the forgotten people?

Will Obama be rid of with his own generated sex and financial scandals? There is a term called "down low" in the black community for professionals who have gay sex on the side despite being married with children and have respectable daytime jobs. Larry Sinclair has come forward with gay sex and drug use claims with Obama in November 1999. He is scared of death threats from the Obama camp since 2006. Google "barack obama is a closet homosexual," or "Video: Pastor Manning Says Obama is Homosexual...," or "Digg - Is Larry Sinclair Obama's dark secret," etc.

President FDR won the 4th ballot in the roll call process in 1932. The rest is history. It should be allowed on Wednesday night. Otherwise the DNC leaves an undeniable impression that the process is stolen especially since Pelosi and Dean orchestrated MI and FLA votes in favor of Obama since summer of 2007.

Is Ted Kennedy's malignant brain tumor a fraud to distract from his real legacy of his 1968/69 Chappaquidic sex/murder scandal because he doesn't seem to have chemo and radiation side effects such as weight loss due to loss of appetite, jauntice, etc. like a typical cancer patient?

Wonder if Obama’s plane failure a couple of weeks ago was a cover up of his involvement in the general tampering of opponents’ planes during this election season? Does he have another "tampering" attempt scheduled for this Sunday when opponent’s plane is scheduled to fly from NY/NJ area to Madison, Wisconsin??? hmmmm....

McCain has so much wealth he has no concept of money—unless of course it's money from lobbyists and corporations or to buy more mansions. That's why at the Saddleback forum McCain ludicrously declared it takes $5 million to move from "middle class" to "rich." That's why he admitted economics isn't his strong suit and came up with a plan to sink our country even further into debt. And that's why he can't sympathize with Americans facing foreclosure, soaring gas prices, unemployment, and the daunting costs of health insurance. None of these problems register when you're living in a solid gold bubble like McCain, or however many gold bubbles he's living in.

Why does John Stewart hate America? Bring back the fairness doctrine so that we stop the one sided left-wing liberal socialist propaganda that fills the airways and cable news.

No, seriously folks...Thanks John Stewart for speaking the truth.
