Cindy McCain Treated for Wrist Sprain

Cindy McCain was rushed to the hospital Wednesday afternoon after an enthusiastic supporter shook her hand too hard, re-injuring a wrist that was broken and operated on many years ago, said McCain campaign staff.

"When the supporter shook her hand, knowing the problems that she has had in the past, she decided to have doctors look at it," said Laurye Blackford, McCain's communication director.

McCain was attending a fundraiser at the Shenandoah Banquet, Golf and Conference Center in West Bloomfield, Mich., when she was injured. She was taken to a nearby hospital in Royal Oak, where she received X-rays, according to the campaign, then was released in time to attend her husband's afternoon news conference.

Cindy McCain appeared at her husband's media availability with her right wrist and hand wrapped and wearing a blue sling decorated with a rhinestone pin.

"Many of you are wondering about Cindy's new attire," John McCain told the assembled press. "An individual shook her hand very vigorously at the last event we were at and she has a minor sprain,'' he said, adding now "she will not have to shake so many hands.''

"I'm fine,'' she added.

She later elaborated: "I'm absolutely fine. We had a great luncheon, fundraiser, and I shook hands with a very enthusiastic supporter and it got me the wrong way. But I'm absolutely great and this is a precautionary thing.''

John McCain communications director Jill Hazelbaker released a statement thanking people for their concern. "During the rope line an enthusiastic supporter shook Mrs. McCain's hand and exacerbated an existing condition," she said. "Out of an abundance of caution, she decided to leave the event and visit the local hospital for x-rays where she was treated for a minor sprain. We appreciate everyone's concern and she is back on the campaign trail now."

In June, 2004, Cindy McCain told the Associated Press that she broke her wrist while shaking hands on the campaign trail in 2000.

"I just thought it was sore, but I had stress fractures up my arm. It was broken, pinned and now it has fused," McCain said at the time. "So I guess there is a down side to campaigning."

Must be nice to have health care.

Yes! We love poking fun at a rich woman's pain! Secret service would have been all over a super-enthusiastic hand shaker. This cover story is hokum. John probably beat her, just like he most likely injured her the first time in 2000. Look at it like these are regular people. In a court of law, a man with a history of violent outbursts + wife with sling on her arm = jail time, period. Elect the wife beater! He'll show us the way!!

I have inside information that Cindy's injury was actually caused by John McCain manhandling her. This should come as no surprise to anyone. He has verbally abused Cindy before, calling her a C*NT in public, (probably THE most offensive word anyone can use to describe a woman). He had a physical scuffle with the elderly Strom Thurmond on the floor of the senate. He has a history of physical violence and is known to have an anger management problem. What a guy.

Did Mc Cain get mad and hurt his wife?

Is Cindy afraid of being called the C word again?

Don't be so hard on her at lease she stoped wearing her hooker leather jackets. And is trying to kinda look and act like a First Lady on legal pain killers. That must be why she looks dopped up and glary eyes.

I did not think that there were so many sick people making dumb statements, does that make you feel good knocking someone ?

Of course, were this a potboiler, one would speculate about the wrist bandages covering up telltale razor cuts...

Posted by: amacrae | August 14, 2008 3:34 PM | Report abuse

I saw Cindy McCain clapping when hubby John offered her up for the nude Miss Buffalo Chips Beauty Contest. This sprain is the punishment for clapping.

This is a great example of why there is an etiquette to handshaking. The act is not about arm wrestling or proving one’s strength. It is about cordially welcoming or acknowledging another. A solid full-hand grip and a couple of shakes is all that is necessary---don’t pump the well dry and don’t hang on for dear life. It is doubtful that one would shake the hand of a frail senior or young child the way they might someone of their own age and health.

It’s just another act intended to be thoughtful and gracious and welcoming. Be careful out there ;-)

The lack of compassion I see on this board is truly stunning. I mean Elizabeth Edwards sneezes and the entire press corps goes into mourning. But if a Republican wife sprains her wrist in the line of duty, all she gets are snide remarks. I am ashamed of all of you for your callous disregard for the future First Lady of our beloved country.

Posted by: millerroberta | August 14, 2008 12:45 PM | Report abuse

McCain did it. I mean, c'mon. He's got no enthusiastic, much less over-enthusiastic, supporters. At best, he has tepid supporters. There's only one man who's an over-enthusiastic supporter of McCain: McCain.

Over enthusiastic supporter, rrrright. I wonder if ol' John is taking his frustration out on her?

Posted by: GabsDad | August 14, 2008 11:12 AM | Report abuse

Not hurt from shaking hands -- contaminated by contact with someone with a net worth under $50 million. Arm is wrapped with special anti-plebe dressing that kills trailer virus. She'll be fine -- no,really, she'll be fine.

An "enthusiastic supporter" caused her to sprain her wrist. How fragile is this woman if it was an "injury" from years ago.

Give me a break:)

Actually, she hurt her wrist doing a fist bump with Old Man River! Shame on you Cindy McCain!

Sincerely,

Uh oh, John! Another defective wife! Better trade her in on a newer model, like you did before. I suggest something in a redhead this time.

This is another reason to vote for Obama - you won't have to listen to a litany of health problems during the presidency, constantly worry whether grandma broke her hip or grandpa's tumor is back.

This may be a ploy for her to be able to continue to legally pop her drugs. Now she has an excuse.

TO: WASHINGTON POST

MAYBE YOU SHOULD SEND A WHOLE GROUP OF INVESTIGATORS TO FIND OUT WHAT EXACTLY HAPPENED HERE. THIS IS BIIIIG NEWS, WE ARE SO INTERESTED ABOUT WRIST INJURIES IN AMERICA. I MEAN, YOUR PRINT SHOP WOULD BE QUITE BUSY DOING STORIES ABOUT WRIST INJURIES. HECK, CHANGE YOUR NAME TO "WRISTIGTON POST". THANK YOU FOR SUCH IMPORTANT NEWS. GOOD JOB.

I can't beleive that republican party chose McCain as their candidate. They are going to loose soooo bad. Oh, oh, oh, oooh, this is about Cindy McCain; PARDON ME!! Yeah, she is so brittle, so please be careful when you shake her hands or Jonh McCain, their arms could fall off. POOOOOOR LITTLE CINDY, she is dumb as he looks, that is why she is not in public so much speaking.

Golly what a tragedy. Poor little cindy she has suffered so much. Now this.

These people are so sleazy. I can't believe that you so-called Patriots are going weak in the knees for these criminals.

You obviously don't know what a red badge of courage is. It is not a complement I can assure you.

=======
I send my deepest condolences to Cindy McCain for the pain she is enduring. She is showing that like her husband, she will suffer any injury, put up with any humiliation, if it is in the defense of her country. She is a hero and has earned her "red badge of courage."

The truth is, it was a re-injury she originally got in a drug stupor shortly before her family intervened. John Mccain was not even around at the time, he could care less when she was going through her drug problems. He said later he had no idea she was on drugs. Yea right, he could have cared less, it kept her out of the way so he could do as he pleased.

She had a late night "coyote ugly" moment where she tried to gnaw her paw off to keep from waking Big Bad John (need,'t have worried, not even a bluetooth in his ear can't wake him).

Since this is such a scintillating article I'll mention something else that at least is funny:

John McCain got his Georgian foreign policy word-for-word from wikipedia. Yep, his bold statements about how wonderful a republic Georgia is (never mind that his chief foreign policy guy is a Georgia lobbyist) was ripped word-for-word from wikipedia.

Well, at least he's make progress with the Google.

Cindy McCain does look cute in the Washington post picture with her designer dresses and bleached-blond hair. However that light-blue necklace does not go with that red and white sundress. Come on Cindy that's a Fashion 101, no-no!

I think the outfit commentary is quite fitting for this article.

Why is this newsworthy? Elizabeth Edwards was on the campaign trail with an incurable form of cancer and you dumba$$e$ at the Washington Post see fit to publish a story about the Cindy McCain springing her wrist shaking hands.

for once I agree with JakeD. A picture of Mizz Buffalo Chip on a yard sign would bring a new matrix to the campaign. Think of the alternative.... well in black and white it would be confused with Count Chockula (sp)? In color Captain Crunch without his cool hat?
