GOP Rallying the Rascals in Mo.

By Robert Barnes
O'FALLON, Mo. -- The vanquished came to the home of the River City Rascals on a blistering Sunday afternoon to praise the presidential ticket each had hoped he would be a part of.

Mitt Romney, the former presidential contender who many once thought would be standing next to John McCain this week at the GOP convention, instead took his place on a stage near home plate to pledge allegiance to John McCain and Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin. And Mike Huckabee, the former presidential contender who didn't want Romney to get either job, was here as well.

"We didn't agree on everything in the primary,'' Huckabee said by way of introducing Romney. The Republican crowd laughed, and Huckabee paused a beat. "You must have noticed that,'' he said.

But the two gamely rode the Straight Talk Express bus into a packed minor league ballpark to praise McCain and Palin, the eventual choice for number two. Romney said he and Huckabee were united in support of the "two mavericks'' heading the Republican ticket.

"Washington is broken and these two are going to fix it,'' Romney said.

The crowd was one of McCain's largest, filling the 5,000-seat stadium and covering the field. Country singer John Rich, an ardent McCain supporter, called the Arizona senator "one of the most bad-ass men who ever walked the face of the earth.''

McCain praised Romney and Huckabee as "great competitors'' and "honorable individuals.'' But his remarks, aside from expressing concern for the Gulf Coast in the path of approaching Hurricane Gustav, were mostly about his little-known 44-year-old running mate. He praised her "grit, integrity, common sense'' and called her the perfect partner for shaking up Washington.

"Change is coming,'' he declared.

Palin, who is less than two years into her term as governor, has moved slowly onto the national stage since her surprise selection as the vice presidential candidate. A misstep would be critical at this stage of her introduction to the nation. At a rally Saturday, she gave an address virtually identical to the one delivered Friday when McCain introduced her.

Sunday afternoon, she presented herself once again as a champion of reform and ethics, as well as a risk-taker. A line she has used at each appearance: "A ship in the harbor is safe, but that's not why the ship is built.''

She also varied her speech to take note of government's responsibilities when disasters such as Gustav loom. "We don't want bigger government,'' she said, "We want a government that does a few big things and does them right.''

Not one comment on William Ayers and his connection to Obama and the "so called" charity group... THE RECORDS ARE OPEN NOW, let's see what comes out, if any reporter will even LOOK...

Obama's connections to Rev. Wright, for 20 years Obama sits in a church that preaches haterd AGAINST white people and AMERICA. yet, it seems, no one is bothered by that or concerned...

Obama has cleary said HE WILL NOT use America's nuclear weapons under ANY situation, period. So he tell Russia, China and North Korea, along with Iran... Hey, hit us, we will NOT hit you back. And you folks here that support Obama say nothing about these FACTUAL statments by Obama...

NEVER take anyone's word... GOOGLE THE INFO ABOVE and read and learn for yourself.

The media WILL NOT tell you about these things...

Now I know what manic depression feels like. America has chosen bad times. America has a new choice between the dumbest man in the room and a Marxist. Republicans have rejected the smartest man in the room on Super Tuesday and God gave them a tornado two months early that killed 55.
Yes global weather is caused by man but administered by the Almighty. Carbon is not involved. No matter what we do from here on out will not be good for Americans. Insurance companies know more about acts of God than the preachers of this country.
The alien hoards will continue to swarm over our borders and citizens will not be able to return without proper papers.

"We warn that individuals who violate covenants of chastity, who abuse spouse or offspring, or who fail to fulfill family responsibilities will one day stand accountable before God. Further, we warn that the disintegration of the family will bring upon individuals, communities, and nations the calamities foretold by ancient and modern prophets." Sept. 23, 1995

Seems to me that Governor Palin's personal ambitions are bigger than her family's value. She cares more about politics and personal power than her family. Who is and will be taking care of her children while she is campaigning with McCain? A pregnant 17 yo daughter is not insignificant and hints that not all is as it is presented.

MCCAIN VOTED AGAINST RELIEF MEASURES FOR VICTIMS OF HURRICANE KATRINA

McCain Voted Against Emergency Funding Bill, Including $28 Billion for
Hurricane Relief. McCain voted against passage of the Emergency
Supplemental Appropriations of 2006. It would provide more than $28 billion
for hurricane relief, approximately $2.3 billion for pandemic flu
preparations and $1.9 billion for border security efforts. [2006 Senate
Vote #112, 5/4/2006]

McCain Voted Against Five Months of Medicaid For Hurricane Katrina
Victims. McCain voted against an amendment to provide emergency health care
and other relief for survivors of Hurricane Katrina. The amendment would
grant access to Medicaid to Hurricane Katrina victims for up to five
months; it also provided full federal funding for Medicaid in Louisiana,
Mississippi and Alabama for up to one year; provided $800 million to
compensate providers caring for Katrina evacuees; it temporarily suspended
the Medicare Part B late enrollment penalty; and permitted states hit by
Katrina or serving evacuees to access the TANF (Temporary Aid to Needy
Families) Contingency Fund. It would be offset with funds unspent by FEMA.
[2005 Senate Vote #285, 11/3/2005]

McCain Voted Twice Against Establishing A Commission To Study The
Response To Hurricane Katrina. McCain voted twice against establishing a
Congressional commission to examine Federal, State, and local response to
devastation wrought by Hurricane Katrina in the U.S. Gulf Region; and
making immediate corrective measures to improve future responses. [2006
Senate Vote #6, 2/2/2006; 2005 Senate Vote #229, 9/14/2005]

When comparing Sarah Palin to Hillary Clinton, whose supporters she is meant to attract, I was stunned. Governor Palinßs credentials are even more shallow, than I thought. Whoever votes for her, can never claim to be a Hillary supporter.

Why is this election starting to read like the last chapter of Heinlein's "Expanded Universe"?

If it really is, the "Light at the End of the Tunnel" ending, we can only hope for the best. Otherwise, this is not going to be fun at all...

Anonymous, I couldn't agree with you more.
Why is the media being so NICE to this woman and not doing their homework and telling the country what she really stands for and her "short" history.
I heard she was under investigation but no particulars until Anonymous's comment.

This was a stupid, pander decision that just lost him my vote. I'd rather not vote at all than have him treat me like a mind- numbed fool. This bimbo brings absolute nothing to our cause, and just lost him the white house. So sad. This will go down is history not as a bold choice, but the most foolish decision ever made by a presidential candidate.

Did they even do anything CLOSE to vetting Sarah Palin?
Sarah Palin was nothing more than a two-bit hack, given the investigation into her abuse of power as Governor, firing the Public Safety Commissioner when he wouldn't fire her ex-brother-in-law, lied about pressuring the guy to do so, and then showed keen judgment by replacing him with someone who had to resign in two weeks because of sexual harassment problems.
Seems that Palin honed this skill back as Mayor of Wasilla, where she was nearly recalled, for firing the Police Chief and Library Director for not supporting her in her 1996 race for Mayor.
Yes, that's right. Hack n' Sack Sarah didn't even try to hide it. She didn't say the Police Chief and Library Director were doing a bad job. No, she fired them for "not fully supporting her efforts to govern" (i.e., not endorsing her for Mayor).
Seriously, though, we're coming off eight years of cronyism and inept leadership in the White House, which led to everything from Heck Of a Job Brownie to the US Attorney Firing Scandal. Sarah Palin's emerging record as Mayor of Wasilla and as Governor are almost a complete mirror of that (though closer to the Mayberry scale than leader of the free world).
But it is a glimpse into the type of "leader" she is. An inept hack, in the George W. Bush mold, who was so brazen with the little power she was given that she faced citizens trying to remove her from office. Did John McCain even ask her about this, the one time he talked to her on the phone before picking her?
If John McCain wanted a woman on the ticket, there were plenty of conservative women to choose from, who have a respectable record as public officials, and who would arguably be ready to be Commander in Chief. That he chose Sarah Palin, who is nothing short of an embarrassment, speaks volumes about the kind of judgment McCain will show as President. For if he's willing to put a nearly-recalled, under-investigation inept hack one heartbeat away from the Presidency, what kind of judgment will he show when choosing Judges and Justices, Secretaries of top departments, and administrators of lead agencies?
This isn't putting Country First. It's putting Political PR first (and not even good PR at that). Sarah Palin as a VP nominee is an affront to the intelligence of every American, and a freakin' embarrassment.
Well done, John McCain. You've shown possibly even worse judgment than George W. Bush, which until now was almost an impossibly high bar to meet.

Hey Mitt, don't get caught up with the "Fly Boy" and the "Twit". Somebody's got to carry the GOP standard in 2012 and there aren't a lot of options. Agree with you or not, you have the political and business experience to hold both top jobs.

Too many worried about the Mormon faith and not enough worried about Palin's neandrathal positions. She's looking like a Cindy clone and, oh, speaking of which, close proximity to Russia does not a foreign policy expert make.

This is wickedness.Mccain has chosen a soccer mom that in the event of his demise if elected, she will become a soccer ball for Putin and the likes. He said that he didn't like this country, only until he became a POW did he come to love his country. Maybe he and the republican jokers no longer love this country, that is why they have tried to run it into the pit and now want to hand it over to one whose only competence would be to do so.

I am so glad that John McCain chose Sarah Palin. God has given McCain the wisdom to choose Sarah. God has willed Sarah to show strength in face-to-face talks with the likes of Putin, Ahmadinejad, and Hu Jintao with her deft skills she learned as a PTA member. She will fix their little red wagon. She will slap them upside the head with a hockey stick or a raisin oatmeal cookie. I feel so safe now. What ever would we do without the senility-driven mentality of John McCain. Thank you John and God bless you.
By the way Sarah looks great for a grandmother...:)
