Obama Aggressively Pushes Back Against Corsi

By Perry Bacon Jr.
Barack Obama's campaign is aggressively contesting a new book criticizing the Illinois senator, putting out a 41-page memo attacking what the campaign calls "full of false, rehashed attacks."

The memo was the latest criticism of a book by conservative author Jerome R. Corsi called "The Obama Nation" that has risen to the top of best-seller lists even as many of his allegations against Obama have been disproved by media outlets.

The campaign not only criticized parts of the book, pointing out that Obama did not give money to a Kenyan politician as Corsi suggests, but also criticizes the author for some of his controversial remarks. Corsi had once referred to Islam as a "virus" and Pope John Paul II as "senile."

The sharp attack in part reflects memories from the campaign of 2004, when Corsi wrote a book called "Unfit for Command" in which veterans attacked John Kerry's Vietnam War record.

"Jerome Corsi is a discredited liar who is peddling another piece of garbage in order to continue the Bush-Cheney politics he helped perpetuate four years ago," said Obama campaign spokesman Tommy Vietor. "His is one of what will likely be many lie-filled books rushed to print this election cycle that are cobbled together from debunked internet sources to make money and advance a partisan agenda. We will forcefully respond to these smears with all means at our disposal."

The campaign put the report on its "Fight the Smears" website, which debunks the false allegations and wild rumors about the candidate that have proliferated online.

In Kenya, there exists a political party called the Orange Democratic Movement. The name "orange" originates from the ballot symbols in the 2005 referendum where Kenyans were to vote for or against a new constitution. The 'Yes' vote was represented by the banana fruit While the 'No' vote was represented by the orange fruit on the ballot papers. The 'No / Orange' got the majority votes hence the proponents decided to keep the name 'orange'. The Orange Revolution in Ukraine has nothing to do with this political party in Kenya. To read that Corsi 'meticulously researched' and found a link between the Kenyans and Ukrainians is in this matter is plain lies. Corsi is a liar!

I read part of the book today for myself. What I read I know was true because I actually saw it when it happened. There may be some lies, but I know there are some truths too. He's not getting my vote.

I, Barack Obama, promise that no one American company will be sold to foreign investors while I am president.

To do that, I will increase taxes on all these same companies, their owners, and stok holders and bleed them dry until they are so completely useless and innefective that no one in their right state of mind will EVER want to buy them.

I am Barack Obama and I approve this message.

Considering Corsi is a KKK leader, this really isnt a big shocker.

How do you fight back against fiction? If you believe that crap i have some nice beachfront property in Kansas i would love to sell you....

Stacy B,

I guess you really love fiction. So i guess you are one of the ones that believed Dubya never did coke or was never busted for a DWI or served out all is National Guard duty. This book is trash and im not an Obama supporter...

No one seems to remember that the most effective liars in history (Goebbels and Stalin, e.g.) were also the most dangerous. Cynical conservatives (aren't they all?) believe that all's fair, without realizing that they are undermining our very democracy...or, perhaps, that is their goal.

Ilya Ehrenburg, Soviet Jew & Stalin's hate mongrel par excellence spewed out hatred of Soviet enemies (Germans & their allies) in Red Army newsprint until Stalin finally silenced him. His visceral hatred & lies had grown just too embarrassing (even) for Stalin, the "bosom friend" of the western Allies. Ehrenburg's trademark was: the bigger the lie, the more it is believed by readers. Hitler's Joseph Goebbels, another lie & hate master, ended up killing (poisoning) all six of his own children in the Berlin Bunker. Corci keeps their company with his lies, eagerly printed in the Big Apple.

Talk about a lack of SUBSTANCE, McCain and his Bush like mouthpieces are just slime and female gossip, are they wearing curlers and sitting at the beauty parlour getting thier nails done? They have nothing and I think this sad campaign of nothing (the Brittany Paris thing was real high brow) will not even appeal to th stupidest voters. We know Karl Roves technique of denying reality (otherwise known as lying) and appealing to the lowest common denominator, maybe americans are getting just a little smarter.

So Obama has millions of dollars in staffers and himself to defend against this book (a lot of which is true) and now he has you liberal hacks at the Times and Post defending him as well, as usual.

How about looking at the SUBSTANCE of the book instead of running to cover the ass of your favorite liberal candidate? You liberal HACKS at the Times and Post are really so predictably biased and dishonest.

Some have failed to notice that the book achieved it place on the best seller list through BULK sales. It is on the best seller list due to this manipulation of its sales and so it will not actually be read by many people.

The Republican Party may be credited with many things but moral integrity and fiscal responsibility are not among them.

By the way did Corsi mention that Obama is Black.

I heard in 2004 that Corsi said that Kerry and his wife were Jooooos.

The BHO campaign's response to the book - and the response from their hacks in the MSM - shows that the facts presented in the book have really hit a nerve.

For an example of the smears the MSM is willing to engage in to support BHO - or at least the DC establishment - see this discussion of a Politico article:

The surge is working? The little people are whiners? Social Security should be privatized, even though the stock market is tanking? John is the only one who can win the Vietnam war?

Fear and smear is all they got. The Republican party has finally painted itself into a corner it can't squirm out of. Couldn't happen to a nicer group of crooks, bigots and liars, as a matter of fact. I'm sure come December we'll have a whole stadium full of Monday morning Republican quarterbacks.

Sucks to be them, eh?

Obama is not just trying to win a battle like Kerry and Gore tried, he is actually trying to win a war. Time to fight back against Republican lies and smears, and to redraw the election map. This is the end of the Republican era/error!

Good. I'm glad Obama is pushing back. The more speech the merrier. Corsi has a good scam going every four years, selling trash onto the best sellers list.

Who was it that said nobody ever goes broke underestimating the intelligence of the public?

By the way, some of the "evidence" cited in his book are posts from discussion threads just like this one.

So here goes, I'll create some "evidence" that would meet Corsi's rigorous standards:

Bigfoot exists!

There, my friends, is iron clad evidence which meets Corsi's rigorous standards, that Bigfoot does in fact exist.

Republicans don't care if it takes fraud to win elections. The current administration has shown over and over again that the end justifies any means. They're happy to have a government full of criminals, as long as they're from the right party.

Whatever they were in the past, Conservativesin 2008 are truly morally bancrupt people.

There are a lot of truths about Obama that the media is protecting us from, same with McCain. Corsi mixes truths with lies, tho. --- But here are some facts I bet you didn't know. [1] McCain's own sister admits he went to mosque as a child in Indonesia. He was registered as a Muslim at both his Indonesian schools. Both principals state this to the press. So Obama WAS A MUSLIM back then. When he claims "I was never a Muslim", he's lying. [2] McCain has a 1,200 page medical and psychiatric file which the public has not seen. The little event McCain held to "show it to the press" this Spring was mostly a stunt. McCain's people set it up so they wouldn't have much time to look at it, and copiers were forbidden. 5.5 years in a Vietnamese POW camp obviously did some damage to McCain's mind. The press won't look into this. But, hey, Bush's mind was damaged by his drug usage in the 1960s and 1970s, and he is a GREAT president with GREAT judgment, right?
Both of these men should never have been nominated for the job.

Dr. Corsi's research has served this country well in the past, we should not take his advice lightly.

The crap this phoney has published before got us the administration we have today. The only research this fool has done is surf the net and cut/paste the GOP talking points.

The more urgent story is the Associated Press reporting that the McCain campaign is actively limiting candidate to national reporters and even voters - Use your brain and ask yourself "why?"

To quote Ronald Reagan, facts are stubborn things.

Obama has an uphill battle to defend against the meticulous research undertaken by Dr. Corsi.

Unfortunately, things like "facts" and "reason" have no effect on the type of people who would buy this book. You know, Republicans.

Here are some excerpts from an Associated Press article concerning Corsi.

Corsi writes for World Net Daily, a conservative Web site whose lead headline Thursday was "Astonishing photo claims: Dead Bigfoot stored on ice."

Dead Bigfoot Stored On Ice! And Corsi wants to talk about the loonie left? Wait, there's more:

He claims Obama received extensive Islamic religious education as a boy in Indonesia, education that was only offered to the truly faithful. Actually, Obama is a Christian and as a boy he attended both Catholic school and Indonesian public schools where some basic study of the Koran was offered.
He accuses Obama of wanting to weaken the military even though Obama's campaign calls for adding 65,000 soldiers and 27,000 Marines.
In an interview with The Associated Press, Corsi defended raising the issue of drugs without any evidence.
"I don't need more," he said. "I'm putting this question forward. I'm putting the evidence forward. Voters can make up their own minds."

This guy is venomous. Here's the last parts of the article.

In a series of Web posts several years ago, Corsi said Pope John Paul II was senile and unconcerned about sexual molestation of boys, referred to Islam is "a worthless, dangerous Satanic religion" and suggested Kerry was secretly Jewish.
"Obama Nation" is published by Threshold Editions, a division of Simon & Schuster that is run by Mary Matalin, the former aide to Vice President Dick Cheney.
Corsi readily acknowledges the political goal of his book. He considers Obama a "radical leftist" who should not be elected president. Corsi said he has no plans to work against Obama with groups comparable to 2004's Swift Boat Veterans for Truth but said he would be willing to consider it.
Associated Press Writer Christopher Wills in Springfield, Ill., contributed to this report.

Mary Matalin, who runs Threshold Editions, allowed this trash to be printed. And it's reaping benefits, being the number 1 best seller on the NY Times list. I wonder what James Carville thinks? Anyway, Corsi doesn't have to join a swiftboat type organization; he's a One Man Gang--all by himself.
