Obama Surfaces Briefly

Barack Obama in Denver, Colo., August 28, 2008.

By Matthew Mosk
DENVER -- Barack Obama surprised the women of the Illinois delegation in the midst of lunch at a hotel here this afternoon.

"I have a speech tonight. I wanted to practice it out on you guys," Obama joked as the women cheered. "See if it works."

Received with hugs and kisses, one woman interrupted his brief remarks with a scream: "I love you!"

Obama told the gathering he wanted to drop in to thank them for getting his political career started. He pointed out friends whom he said worked on his state senate campaign, his failed congressional bid and his run for U.S. Senate.

"This is like going back on memory lane," he smiled from the podium of the Marriott Hotel ballroom.

"I have not forgotten where I came from," he said. "I haven't forgotten who got me here. It's because of all of you."

"It's because of all of you that Michelle and I have this great honor of helping to lead this party and take back this White House," he said. "Everything I do, I do because of what I've learned from you, because of the support you've given me."

Delores Register, of Oak Park, Ill., took in the scene from the back of the hall, as Obama was encircled by adoring supporters.

"It's very emotional," she said. "Very meaningful. Here we were eating lunch, and it was like the clouds parted and the sun was shining in."

Cornfields:

You are simply focusing on the negative connotation of "celebrity" -- look up the defeinition -- objectively, Obama is the biggest celebrity in the world today.

I know that he does have groupie supporters, but by and large the press (that means you) are basically just mouthing the Rovian "celebrity" attack because you are bored and lazy.

At first, I actually thought that the Post would give us good coverage (I even praised the Trail as one of the better blogs a few months ago), but lately I just think you guys look pathetic. Sure, rip into Obama, but do it thoughtfully... this kind of coverage (ie focusing on celebrity and Greek Columns as if neo-classicism isn't our dominant political motif) is just plain dumb.

Matt, I am a college prof, and you should thank your lucky stars I never got to you as a undergrad, because you are producing c work.

Obama is getting ready to get an influx of votes. Over on the Huck Pac website. The site is having a raging online debate. It appears Huckabee supporters are splintering. It appears that some Huckabee supporters are going to be supporting Obama. Huckabee supporters are saying they are not going to vote for McCain Romney ticket. Wow go to http://www.huckpac.com and look at the blog. This is really starting to heat up. Romney might actually cost McCain the election. They have even started a website http://www.McCanes.com/newparty.html
