McCain Marks Sept. 11 in Pa.

By Michael D. Shear
SHANKSVILLE, Pa. -- Sen. John McCain paid a somber visit Thursday to the field where United Flight 93 crashed seven years ago, marking the moment that passengers overwhelmed terrorists onboard the ill-fated airliner.

McCain spoke on a windswept hilltop above the site of the crash, marked by an American flag and a fence. A simple granite marker listing the names of the passengers and crew serves as a temporary memorial.

"No American living then should ever forget the heroism that occurred in the skies above this field on September 11, 2001," McCain said in brief remarks that followed comments from Pennsylvania Gov. Ed Rendell and others. "In the Gospel of John it is written, 'Greater love hath no man than this, a man who lays down his life for his friends.' Such is their love, love so sublime that only God's love surpasses it. I'm in awe of it as much as I am in debt to it. May God bless their souls."

The gray overcast skies added to the somber silence during the memorial. At times, the only sound that could be heard was that of the flapping flags in the brisk winds.

McCain and his rival, Barack Obama, had pledged to take a break from their increasingly nasty presidential campaigns for a day, suspending all television commercials during the Sept. 11 commemorations.

That appeared to be holding early Thursday morning. A day after a barrage of attack e-mails from both sides poured into reporters inboxes, there have been none so far from either McCain, Obama or the two political parties.

Obama sent out a Sept. 11 statement: "Today, we honor the memory of the lives that were lost on September 11, 2001, and grieve with the families and friends who lost someone they loved in New York City, at the Pentagon, and in Shanksville, Pennsylvania. We will never forget
those who died."

(The full statements of both candidates can be read here.)

The political vacuum extended to the media as well. Cable news networks which had been offering wall-to-wall coverage of the presidential fireworks turned their attention to terrorism Thursday morning as they covered the anniversary of the attacks.

McCain and Obama are scheduled to jointly visit Ground Zero in New York City later this afternoon. Plans call for them to walk together down the ramp that leads into the site where the World Trade Center towers once stood.

Neither candidate is expected to speak at Ground Zero.

Thursday evening, the two candidates will appear at Columbia University, one after the other, at a forum on public service sponsored by Time Magazine and CNN. McCain will go first, but
organizers said they will not attempt to keep Obama from listening since the questions will not be the same.

911 - Given the intelligence that existed with-in the various intelligence agency prior to 911, had that intelligence been properly valued and acted upon, America should have been able to have prevented the terrorist attack on 911. Knowing this, the only viable conclusion is; no new tools or agencies would have been needed to thwart that 911 attack, nor to prevent any similar 911 style attacks in the future, but merely, that our intelligence community, was incompetent.
Now, would it not be true, that before the 911 attack, a viable balance had been struck, between the protection of an individuals constitutionally protected rights, and the tools, available to the intelligence community, needed to protect America at home from foreign terrorist attacks, had been achieved.
It has been said, “a society, which surrenders personal freedoms, under the guise of security, deserves neither”. Now, make your case for the need of the patriot act.

The only thing that could stop Obama from winning would be grabbing himself or flashing a gang sign on T.V.

In recent weeks, John McCain and the Republican Party have blatantly and without any shame adopted the Democratic campaign theme of “change”. It should be evident to an objective observer that Bush 43 and now McCain and Pailin are mere puppets to the true Republican national party leaders who control their strings. Cheney is one of the few of that inner cabal that have been calling the shots since the Nixon administration. They are in fact a continuation of the Nixon and Ford presidencies with only a disruption during the Carter and Clinton years. Bush 41( Head of the RNC during Nixon, former head of the CIA,VP to Reagan, and president is probably the real leader of this political Cosa Nostra if not a equal partner of this power sharing musical chairs game. His right and left hands have been Dick Cheney(former Sec.of Defense of Bush 41, former White House Chief of staff for Ford) and the other is Donald Rumsfeld(former Sec. of Defense for Ford and Bush 43,former special envoy to the Middle East during Reagan). Another member of this group, more likely a captain if not a full blown boss himself is James Baker (former C.O.S of Reagan, former Under Sec. of Commerce for Ford, former C.O.S and Sec of State for Bush 41, former Sec. of Treasury for Reagan, former chief legal advisor to Bush 43). Another captain or free lance enforcer is Karl Rove a college drop out and campaign manager for both Bush 41 and 43, also for Phil Gram who is McCain’s economic advisor.
Lets look at McCain’s staff of change.
On July 2, 2008, Steve Schmidt was given "full operational control" of McCain's campaign. Steve Schmidt prior to this was a top aide to Dick Cheney and a protégé to Karl Rove. Another advisor is Charles R. Black worked for Ronald Reagan's two Presidential campaigns in 1976 and 1980 and he was a senior political adviser to the 1992 re-election campaign of George H.W. Bush. Another advisor is Randy Scheunemann. He was project director for the Project for the New American Century. A neo-conservative think tank founded by non other than Dick Cheney, Donald Rumsfeld and Bill Kristol and others in 1996. Other signatories to this group reads like a who’s who of the last 8 years of the republican administration.
These people have never cared about small town america or “values” All they care about is war profiteering. Many of the signatories have never served in the military. Cheney and Rove both dodged the draft. Look at the statement of principles by the PNAC. Rumsfeld was a good friend of Saddam Huessin in the 80’s Cheney didn’t want Nelson Mandela free. These are the real puppet masters, they throw out the talking points about the left of being elitist and not caring about middle america and these same guys other than Rove have advanced degrees and are worth no less than 10 million dollars. People who support them need to extricate their heads out of Limbaugh and Hannity’s asses and see what is really happening to them. McCain is not his own man he confuses stories of his real life with a book he read “The Gulag Archipelago", in which a fellow prisoner - not a guard - silently drew a cross in the dirt with a stick.” An ironic twist to all this is Eliot A. Cohen, a signatory to the PNAC "Statement of Principles", responded in The Washington Post: "There is no evidence that generals as a class make wiser national security policymakers than civilians. George C. Marshall, our greatest soldier statesman after George Washington, opposed shipping arms to Britain in 1940. His boss, Franklin D. Roosevelt, with nary a day in uniform, thought otherwise. Whose judgment looks better?"
http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/newstopics/uselection2008/johnmccain/2581086/John-McCain-accused-of-plagiarising-Wikipedia-for-speeches.html. Even if you don’t like Obama there is no-way a sane person can want this continued blatant fleecing of our Nation.
Thes are all verifiable facts and can be found just with a google search. AIPAC and PNAC are the military industrial complex.
Other than the ultra affluent, how can anyone support the Republican Party? When will small town America realize that they are being duped into supporting the ultra-affluent agenda? The talking points of the right are so hypocritical that it becomes laughable. The red meat of the right is the so called Main stream Media as if Limbaugh, Hannity, et al. are not part of it. They demean celebrity status, however they tout one of their greatest presidents(Reagan) was an actor. They say they are the party of patriotism, yet many of the upper echelon of the party have never served, i.e. Cheney, Rumsfeld, Baker, Reagan. They say that they care about "Main Street" USA but only bail out the Whales of Wall Street. Yet small town America eat this tripe every year. They don't care about religion unless it can be used to stir up the base, nor science or technology unless there is a buck to be made. Small town America takes pride on its freedom but yet don't realize that over time we are becoming less free, ie wire tapping and other forms of domestic surveillance. They demean people of intelligence because they know many people of small town America don't have degrees and use it at a fake issue and call people who spent time in academia as elitist when many on the right serve on university boards and have part-time professorships. They say they are against affirmitive action but yet celebrate mediocrity, Bush43 and McCain graduating at the bottom of their classes. Who both came from already well established families and had all the opportunities and connections to excel. Why does small town America believes this is the party for them? Christian conservatives seem to the be the first ones who want to go to war and bomb someone before any diplomacy is tried. Why can't small town America and Christian conservatives realize they are being used as pawns just as much the Islamic fundamentalist are. Islamic fundamentalist come from small town Middle East and given the same kind of talking points as the evangelicals. They want prayer in school, no choice available to women, and believe to the core that their ideas about worship and country are the best. Wake up small town America you are being duped.Talking about who is more patriotic, symbols, lipstick and wearing pins are nothing more than distractions to the real issue of how a few select group of people have held power almost continuously for over 30 years. Yes the left has their own political power groups but none have been so effective at pushing forward an agenda that is fundamentally bad for the U.S. and in a larger view the entire world. I stress again the now defunct PNAC and the AIPAC have been slowly pushing us closer to another World War. Bush41 and et al have been doing this and no one calls them on it. Every Republican administration has basically the same people recycled since Nixon. Just do a little research and you will see that these people are just pushing this agenda of some kind of Pax Americana and not taking into account that maybe other nations of the world might not like that and if not bomb them. Many people who support the Republican party, really need to read "1984" by George Orwell and see how we as nation have been inching closer to that type of society. People think this story is about a communist society, but it is more about how a society is kept in a constant state of fear in order for the ruling class to stay in control. Doublespeak, patriotism to the point of frenzy, censorship, erosion of civil liberties (not respecting the Constitution) is happening right in front of us. The consolidation of government (the executive branch has never been more powerful than ever, gridlocked legislature with only two parties for representation, a judiciary that just kowtows to the executive branch). No real independent journalism. Cameras placed on every street corner. This may sound like delusional conspiracy stuff, but I implore people to research for themselves to really see what is happening to them. People think this could never happen here in the U.S. but all this has already happening, slowly, incrementally all under the guise of "keeping America safe"

Are you for real? "Obama is without sin"? Perhaps you missed his prayer stolen from the Wailing Wall? Also, if you meant John McCain, I really think he will win this election. Why is he up 15 points among Independents, if he's so "dumb"? BTW: McCain and Palin differ from each other on human embryonic stem-cell research, so they can't "be the same" as Bush ; )

Here's a thread for you to read up on:

A great speech from a great man.

Wonder if it is true that the actual candidate that bumps off mutual opponent of both parties will win in November? Apparently the opponent exposed corruption within both parties and is specifically targeted.

The question is how... For example, will the GOP use a Guiliani-like mob ties such as his protege Bernard Kerik was indicted with 140 years of jail time? Will the Dems use an OJ Simpson-like convict with jail time instead? Will both parties use the popular law enforcement community practice of 'sweetheart exchange deals' where crimes/murders are committed in exchange for less penalty on their behalf?

And do we have to worry about our family's safety having shared this detail now? Will my husband be targeted and murdered during his daily jog after work in Hackensack and Bogota, NJ around 4pm today? Especially since all our habits and plans are known in advance due to bugging devices implanted both in public and private?

the conservative

Teach a man to fish,
You liberals are just
propagating class warfare,
it is the same thing Lennin

in liberal america there is
no hope a poor man can

Another member of this group, more likely a captain if not a full blown boss himself is James Baker (former C.O.S of Reagan, former Under Sec. of Commerce for Ford, former C.O.S and Sec of State for Bush 41, former Sec. of Treasury for Reagan, former chief legal advisor to Bush 43). Another captain or free lance enforcer is Karl Rove a college drop out and campaign manager for both Bush 41 and 43, also for Phil Gram who is McCain’s economic advisor.

I think this is a misstatement. Only one side is getting increasingly nasty.

JakeD-
Thanks, I'll try to read Summa Theologica. I know my wife has.
About WWII, Hitler couldn't have accomplished what he had without heroes. Those heroes didn't wake up one day and say, "I think I'll go out and die on behalf of evil." They were patriots carrying out orders, and they were wrong.
I could die fighting evil, or I could die refusing to participate in it. Jihadists think they're fighting evil to the point of giving their lives. They're brave, but wrong. Their idea of fighting evil creates more evil. Believe it or not, Jesus himself said, "Resist not evil."
One way or another we're all gonna die. If we try to treat everyone the way we want to be treated, then we've won our own battles.

I am sickened by John McCains shameless exploitation of his military record. He has failed our veterans—past, present and future. McCain doesnt mind starting more wars, or having the Iraq Occupation last another 100 years but he does mind helping those vets when they return to the US. John McBush is typical of the I got mine but you cant have yours philosophy of the Republican Party.

Inside the senile mind of John McBush probabaly looks something like this:

Since when does constantly confusing the Sunni's, Shiites and Al-Qaeda in Iraq, singing "bomb bomb Iran" and blabbering about staying in Iraq for 100 years or more, like McCain has done the last six months, make you a "foreign policy expert"?

Charles (some more info about bin Laden and his involvement in the Afghan War / subsequent attacks on the U.S.):

Between 1982 and 1992, some 35,000 Muslim radicals from 43 Islamic countries in the Middle East, North and East Africa, Central Asia and the Far East would pass their baptism under fire with the Afghan Mujaheddin. Tens of thousands more foreign Muslim radicals came to study in the hundreds of new madrassas that Zia's military government began to fund in Pakistan and along the Afghan border. Eventually more than 100,000 Muslim radicals were to have direct contact with Pakistan and Afghanistan and be influenced by the jihad.

In camps near Peshawar and in Afghanistan, these radicals met each other for the first time and studied, trained and fought together. It was the first opportunity for most of them to learn about Islamic movements in other countries, and they forged tactical and ideological links that would serve them well in the future. The camps became virtual universities for future Islamic radicalism. None of the intelligence agencies involved wanted to consider the consequences of bringing together thousands of Islamic radicals from all over the world. "What was more important in the world view of history? The Taliban or the fall of the Soviet Empire? A few stirred-up Muslims or the liberation of Central Europe and the end of the Cold War?" said Zbigniew Brzezinski, a former US National Security Adviser. American citizens woke up to the consequences only when Afghanistan-trained Islamic militants blew up the World Trade Center in New York in 1993, killing six people and injuring 1,000.

"The war," wrote Samuel Huntington, "left behind an uneasy coalition of Islamist organizations intent on promoting Islam against all non-Muslim forces. It also left a legacy of expert and experienced fighters, training camps and logistical facilities, elaborate trans-Islam networks of personal and organization relationships, a substantial amount of military equipment including 300 to 500 unaccounted-for Stinger missiles, and, most important, a heady sense of power and self-confidence over what had been achieved and a driving desire to move on to other victories."

A young Bin Laden

. . . Among these thousands of foreign recruits was a young Saudi student, Osama Bin Laden, the son of a Yemeni construction magnate, Mohammed Bin Laden, who was a close friend of the late King Faisal and whose company had become fabulously wealthy on the contracts to renovate and expand the Holy Mosques of Mecca and Medina. The ISI had long wanted Prince Turki Bin Faisal, the head of Istakhbarat, the Saudi Intelligence Service, to provide a Royal Prince to lead the Saudi contingent in order to show Muslims the commitment of the Royal Family to the jihad. Only poorer Saudis, students, taxi drivers and Bedouin tribesmen had so far arrived to fight. But no pampered Saudi prince was ready to rough it out in the Afghan mountains. Bin Laden, although not a royal, was close enough to the royals and certainly wealthy enough to lead the Saudi contingent. Bin Laden, Prince Turki and General Gut were to become firm friends and allies in a common cause.

The centre for the Arab-Afghans [Filipino Moros, Uzbeks from Soviet Central Asia, Arabs from Algeria, Egypt, Saudi Arabia and Kuwait, and Uighurs from Xinjiang in China who had all come to fight with the Mujaheddin] was the offices of the World Muslim League and the Muslim Brotherhood in the northern Pakistan city of Peshawar. The center was run by Abdullah Azam, a Jordanian Palestinian whom Bin Laden had first met at university in Jeddah and revered as his leader. Azam and his two sons were assassinated by a bomb blast in Peshawar in 1989.

During the 1980s, Azam had forged close links with Hikmetyar and Abdul Rasul Sayyaf, the Afghan Islamic scholar, whom the Saudis had sent to Peshawar to promote Wahabbism. Saudi funds flowed to Azam and the Makhtab at Khidmat or Services Center, which he created in 1984 to service the new recruits and receive donations from Islamic charities. Donations from Saudi Intelligence, the Saudi Red Crescent, the World Muslim League and private donations from Saudi princes and mosques were channelled through the Makhtab. A decade later, the Makhtab would emerge at the center of a web of radical organizations that helped carry out the World Trade Center bombing and the bombings of US embassies in Africa in 1998.

Until he arrived in Afghanistan, Bin Laden's life had hardly been marked by anything extraordinary. He was born around 1957, the 17th of 57 children sired by his Yemeni father and a Saudi mother, one of Mohammed Bin Laden's many wives. Bin Laden studied for a masterÕs degree in business administration at King Abdul Aziz University in Jeddah but soon switched to Islamic studies. Thin and tall, he is 6 feet 5 inches, with long limbs and a flowing beard. He towered above his contemporaries, who remember him as a quiet and pious individual but hardly marked out for greater things.

His father backed the Afghan struggle and helped fund it, so when Bin Laden decided to join up, his family responded enthusiastically. He first traveled to Peshawar in 1980 and met the Mujaheddin leaders, returning frequently with Saudi donations for the cause until 1982, when he decided to settle in Peshawar. He brought in his company engineers and heavy construction equipment to help build roads and depots for the Mujaheddin. In 1986, he helped build the Khost tunnel complex, which the CIA was funding as a major arms storage depot, training facility and medical center for the Mujaheddin, deep under the mountains close to the Pakistan border. For the first time in Khost he set up his own training camp for Arab Afghans, who now increasingly saw this lanky, wealthy and charismatic Saudi as their leader.

. . . Bin Laden later claimed to have taken part in ambushes against Soviet troops, but he mainly used his wealth and Saudi donations to build Mujaheddin projects and spread Wahabbism among the Afghans. After the death of Azam in 1989, he took over Azam's organization and set up Al Qaeda or Military Base as a service center for Arab-Afghans and their families and to forge a broad-based alliance among them. With the help of Bin Laden, several thousand Arab militants had established bases in the provinces of Kunar, Nuristan and Badakhshan, but their extreme Wahabbi practices made them intensely disliked by the majority of Afghans. Moreover, by allying themselves with the most extreme pro-Wahabbi Pashtun MuMeddin, the Arab-Afghans alienated the non-Pashtuns and the Shia Muslims.

Upset by U.S. role in Gulf War

. . . By 1990, Bin Laden was disillusioned by the internal bickering of the Mujaheddin and he returned to Saudi Arabia to work in the family business. He founded a welfare organization for Arab-Afghan veterans. Some 4,000 of them had settled in Mecca and Medina alone, and Bin Laden gave money to the families of those killed. After Iraq's invasion of Kuwait he lobbied the Royal Family to organize a popular defense of the kingdom and raise a force from the Afghan war veterans to fight Iraq. Instead, King Fahd invited in the Americans. This came as an enormous shock to Bin Laden. As the 540,000 US troops began to arrive, Bin Laden openly criticized the Royal Family, lobbying the Saudi ulema to issue fatwas, religious rulings, against non-Muslims being based in the country.

. . . In 1992, Bin Laden left for Sudan to take part in the Islamic revolution under way there under the charismatic Sudanese leader Hassan Turabi. Bin Laden's continued criticism of the Saudi Royal Family eventually annoyed them so much that they took the unprecedented step of revoking his citizenship in 1994. It was in Sudan, with his wealth and contacts, that Bin Laden gathered around him more veterans of the Afghan war, who were all disgusted by the American victory over Iraq and the attitude of the Arab ruling elites who allowed the US military to remain in the Gulf. As US and Saudi pressure mounted against Sudan for harboring Bin Laden, the Sudanese authorities asked him to leave.

In May 1996, Bin Laden travelled back to Afghanistan, arriving in Jalalabad in a chartered jet with an entourage of dozens of Arab militants, bodyguards and family members, including three wives and 13 children. Here he lived under the protection of the Jalalabad Shura [an advisory body or assembly], until the conquest of Kabul and Jalalabad by the Taliban in September 1996. In August 1996, he had issued his first declaration of jihad against the Americans, whom he said were occupying Saudi Arabia.

"The walls of oppression and humiliation cannot be demolished except in a rain of bullets," the declaration read. Striking up a friendship with Mullah Omar, in 1997 he moved to Kandahar, Afghanistan, and came under the protection of the Taliban.

By now, the CIA had set up a special cell to monitor his activities and his links with other Islamic militants. A US State Department report in August 1996 noted that Bin Laden was "one of the most significant financial sponsors of Islamic extremist activities in the world." The report said that Bin Laden was financing terrorist camps in Somalia, Egypt, Sudan, Yemen, Egypt and Afghanistan. In April 1996, President Clinton signed the Anti-Terrorism Act, which allowed the US to block assets of terrorist organizations. It was first used to block Bin Laden's access to his fortune of an estimated US$250-300 million. A few months later, Egyptian intelligence declared that Bin Laden was training 1,000 militants, a second generation of Arab-Afghans, to bring about an Islamic revolution in Arab countries.

McCain's good for nothing but mindlessly killing people, and the senile old man will be lucky if he even lives through his first term if he happened to get elected. That would leave us with Caribou Barbie the pathological serial liar as our president. Nobody (other than the Alaska state trooper she had fired for personal revenge) even knew her 2 weeks ago.

Today is a good die to think about your death coming suddenly and unexpectedly.

My town lost 36 people in the attack.

They got up to go to work. Normal day. Beautifel September morn.

They drank their coffee, dressed, kissed their loved one goodby - or perhaps not - and drove to the rail station.

Bought a second cup o'joe, the Journal and boarded the 7:11 AM train to Newark. Sat in their usual seat - reading, talking , snoozing.

Changed trains at Newark for the downtown PATH. Rumbled in the WTC station.

They look the giant escalators (or if they were yound and fit) jogged up the stairs.

Made a right turn and then another at the top of the escalator - passed the Duane Reade drugstore, the shops, the flower stalls, the Old Chemical Bank branch - and into the revolving doors of the WTC - to their deaths.

L=Today is a good day to think about your life. Bless them all.

Saddam indeed supported terrorists, USED weapons of mass destruction, and (last I checked at least) bin Laden is not in Iraq -- if it were up to Senators Obama and Biden, however, we wouldn't have surged and actually handed the country to him on a silver platter -- so, why don't you just leave us alone to fight our "illegal" wars (all the while you rest assured that NO ONE will ever invade your country considering which country you border)?

All this faux outrage is getting old. They bluster and pretend outrage at every turn. Their game is easy to spot. It is meant to deflect and intimidate. Deflect people from really looking at this woman and the lies and inaccuracies and spin that are piling up daily and to intimidate people from looking into her background, experience, policies, philosophy, etc

Almost more than McCain’s policies, the actions of his campaign over the past month and especially the past week tells us what to expect if he’s elected.

Spin, Spin, Spin and outrage and bluster. They’ll spin every issue and be outraged and blame the “elite liberal press” every time they’re questioned on anything. We would be hearing a lot of “POW” and “That’s sexist”

It's too their advantage to keep us on the stupid stuff and just run out the clock.

Such a sorry Day for all this September 11th. I can''t comprehend what happened till this day. I do however question why Bin ladin has not been the Prime focus for eight years Your government started an illegal war against a tyrant for sure, but this Tyrant was not a terrorist supporter. Did not have weapons of Mass destruction. You gave Bin Laden Iraq on to silver platter. Get out of your illegal war and find the bastard responsible for 911. You might have to look within your own government also. Bless you all America.

Corporate insiders are systematically taking over econmic systems and creating enemies. Ultimately that's how this all started.

P.S. for the record, bin Laden was never directly aided by the U.S. during the Soviet-Afghanistan war -- look it up if you don't believe me -- the leader of the Afganistan-based group we had previously built up, however, was abandoned by the U.S. and ASSASSINATED by bin Laden days before 9/11.

Questions for our "foreign policy expert" knuckledragging Wingnuts?
-----------------------------------

When he was warned in the August 6, 2001 PDB, "Bin Laden Determined to Strike In US", why did the president do nothing except tell the guy who delivered it to him, "All right, you've covered your arse, now"?

Why did Rudy Giuliani put the anti-terrorism command center in the World Trade Center against the advice of experts who knew better?

Why did the president sit in that Florida classroom for several minutes after being told "America is under attack"?

Could there be any greater examples of heroism than the passengers who fought back on Flight 93, the rescue teams at the Pentagon, or the NYPD and NYFD responders who ran into the towers without hesitation?
Father Mychal Judge: Saint...or Supersaint?

Why did NY firefighters have faulty radios instead of dependable ones, Mr. Giuliani?

Was it really necessary for the president to tell us to go shopping?

Why were rescue workers at Ground Zero told by the EPA director that the air was safe to breathe when it wasn't?

When rescue workers got horribly sick from breathing contaminated air, why were so many given perfunctory treatment and then left to fend for themselves?

Why did Rudy Giuliani say he "was at the site as often, if not more, than most of the workers," when he only visited the site for 29 hours over a span of 41 visits and spent more time in that span at NY Yankee's games?

When Glenn Beck---one of the most respected figures in the Republican party---said, "When I see a 9/11 victim family on television, or whatever, I'm just like, 'Oh shut up!' I'm so sick of them because they're always complaining," why wasn't he banished into obscurity?

When the president stressed the importance of safeguarding our ports and vital infrastructure, why did he take so long actually safeguarding them? Are they much safer today?

When the president called for greater security at airports, why was there such a lopsided focus on passengers and very little on cargo until recently?

When we found out that most of the hijackers were from Saudi Arabia, why did the president continue holding hands with their leaders?

Why were habeas corpus rights suspended years after the attacks of 9/11, when the country wasn't in a state of rebellion or invasion?

When Congress found out the president had broken the law before 9/11 by snooping on American citizens without warrants, why did they patch up the law to make his---and the phone companies'---illegal activities retroactively legal?

The president nominated Bernard Kerik to be the head of Homeland Security...and he wasn't joking???

When Ann Coulter---one of the most respected figures in the Republican party---said, "These broads (9/11 widows) are millionaires, lionized on TV and in articles about them, reveling in their status as celebrities and stalked by grief-arazzis. I've never seen people enjoying their husbands' deaths so much," why wasn't she banished into obscurity?

When Bush had bin Laden in his sights at Tora Bora, why didn’t he take the shot?
Why were we told repeatedly that Saddam Hussein was partly responsible for the attacks when he had nothing to do with them?

When we needed more troops to vanquish the Taliban in Afghanistan, why did we invade Iraq?

If we're winning the "War on terror," why hasn't the color-coded terror alert level changed from Yellow to Green or Blue in 2,382 days?

How unspeakably crude was it for the Republican party to exploit the 9/11 attacks in a promotional video during their convention in St. Paul?
Why hasn't the president caught Osama bin Laden?

When Jerry Falwell---one of the most respected figures in the Republican party---got on TV and said, "I really believe that the pagans, and the abortionists, and the feminists, and the gays and the lesbians who are actively trying to make that an alternative lifestyle, the ACLU, People For the American Way, all of them who have tried to secularize America. I point the finger in their face and say 'you helped this happen'," why wasn't he defrocked and sent to work in soup kitchens for the rest of his life?

Why is there still a giant hole in the ground in Lower Manhattan?
-
Are terrorists punks, or what?
-
Are Republican politicians (McCain, Giuiliani) who use fear to scare citizens into submission, thugs or what?

That's right, Charles -- McCain is just like Truman -- THANK GOD!!! There were LIBERAL Congressmen and women in the U.S. Capitol who could have been killed too. WE ARE AT WAR!!! We didn't start this war -- Islamic terrorists attacked us -- don't you guys realize to what lengths this enemy will go?

Do you think Harry S Truman dropping two A-bombs on children made him a "peace maker"?

Posted by: JakeD | September 11, 2008 12:47 PM

Hey John McCain-
While you're busy quoting Jesus, remember He also said, "Those who live by the sword shall die by the sword."
On 9/11 we were attacked by an Afganistan- based group we had previously built up to fight the Russians.
Our people not only died by the sword, it was a sword that had previously belonged to us, financed by our defense budget and our oil imports. You won't deal with that.
You'll just keep killing people. You won't address the underlying tendency to repeat the same mistakes over and over, because you and you're lobbyist buddies just can't get rich enough to cover how bad you feel about having corrupt souls.
The devil may give you the world, but it's gonna cost you.

Posted by: Charles | September 11, 2008 12:46 PM

Or, so the "Cone of Silence" only applies to McCain? I'm more interested in the Charlie Gibson interview of Gov. Palin. Did you guys hear that even Biden thinks Hillary Clinton would have been a better pick for Obama's VP?!
