McCain Got Palin Fundraising Bounce

Updated 8:12 p.m.
By Juliet Eilperin and Matthew Mosk
GOP presidential nominee John McCain raised $9 million in the three days following his Aug. 29 selection of Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin as his running mate, according to Federal Election Commission records released Saturday.

McCain, who raised more than $47 million last month, according to FEC records, boasted nearly $27 million cash on hand at the end of August -- $5.5 million more than he had at the beginning of the month.

Beginning Sept. 1, McCain was limited in how he could spend that money because he agreed to accept $84 million in public financing for the remainder of the campaign. But he also gained access on that date to those public funds.

"This campaign will have the necessary resources to win this election, because of the enthusiasm surrounding our ticket's team of maverick reformers who will rebuild our economy and change Washington," McCain spokesman Tucker Bounds said in an e-mailed statement.

Democratic presidential nominee Barack Obama, who decided to forgo taxpayer-funded financing and thus is not bound by the same fundraising limits as McCain, collected $66.million last month. He found that Palin's selection helped fill his coffers last month, as well. Within 24 hours of Palin joining the GOP ticket, Obama had raised an additional $10 million. He was required to file his FEC report by midnight Saturday.

This from Matt Taibbi :

"Here's the thing about Americans. You can send their kids off by the thousands to get their balls blown off in foreign lands for no reason at all, saddle them with billions in debt year after congressional year while they spend their winters cheerfully watching game shows and football, pull the rug out from under their mortgages, and leave them living off their credit cards and their Wal-Mart salaries while you move their jobs to China and Bangalore.

"And none of it matters, so long as you remember a few months before Election Day to offer them a two-bit caricature culled from some cutting-room-floor episode of Roseanne as part of your presidential ticket. And if she's a good enough likeness of a loudmouthed Middle American archetype, as Sarah Palin is, John Q. Public will drop his giant sized bag of Doritos in gratitude, wipe the sizzlin' picante dust from his lips and rush to the booth to vote for her. Not because it makes sense, or because it has a chance of improving his life or anyone else's, but simply because it appeals to the low-humming narcissism that substitutes for his personality, because that image on TV reminds him of the mean brainless slob he sees in the mirror every morning.

"Sarah Palin is a symbol of everything that is wrong with the modern United States. As a representative of our political system, she's a new low in reptilian villainy, the ultimate cynical masterwork of puppeteers like Karl Rove. But more than that, she is a horrifying symbol of how little we ask for in return for the total surrender of our political power. Not only is Sarah Palin a fraud, she's the tawdriest, most half-assed fraud imaginable, 20 floors below the lowest common denominator, a character too dumb even for daytime TV – and this country is going to eat her up, cheering every step of the way. All because most Americans no longer have the energy to do anything but lie back and allow ourselves to be jacked off by the calculating thieves who run this grasping consumer paradise we call a nation."

"Most of the comments that were heard were that they trusted McCain and Palin to make the most changes for the economic mess we are in. Mavericks for real."

Mavericks? Well one of those mavericks was not only "asleep at the switch" for the run up to this mess, he and his chief economic adviser actively participated in creating it.

The other "maverick" is even more economically challenged. I suppose if she had a couple of extra trillion surplus paid for by the taxes her state makes on oil and paid for by the rest of us, she could balance the budget, right?

What a crock.

I have family that live in The Villages where Gov.Palin spoke. They stood in lines for hours for tickets two days before.

They told me that the real story was the young people that showed up. They drove from hours away and stood in the heat and were VERY EXCITED and DEDICATED to the message of McCain and Palin.

Most stories are dismissing the numbers as “Old Peope with Nothing Better To DO”…let them dismiss it…The Real energy and excitement were the young people.
I hope that story gets out.

Most of the comments that were heard were that they trusted McCain and Palin to make the most changes for the economic mess we are in. Mavericks for real.

And today Gov. Palin will be meeting with World Leaders…She has some strong language for them.

Jim Johnson was a corrupt CEO of Fannie Mae who, according to the Office of Federal Housing Enterprise Oversight's May 2006 report on mismanagement & corruption, hid a substantial amount of his compensation from the public, reporting that it was between $6 million and $7 million when in fact it was $21 million. He hid over 111,000 shares of Fannie Mae Stock, until it was later discovered.
Obama tapped Johnson as head of his VP search committee. Later we found that Johnson had received over 7 MILLION In "SWEETHEART LOAN DEALS" from Countrywide Financial, who relied upon Fannie Mae to purchase Sub Prime Debt. Johnson then stepped aside.
On the campaign trail, Obama criticized Countrywide's executives. "These are the people who are responsible for infecting the economy and helping to create a home foreclosure crisis. Two million people may end up losing their homes," Mr. Obama said in March at a town hall meeting in Lancaster, Pa.
Johnson and others at Fannie & Freddie lobbied Congress for lax oversight of Fannie & Freddie. Obama who has only been in the Senate less than 3 years, received the 2nd highest level of these lobbying donations accumulated over a 16 YEAR PERIOD from Fannie & Freddie, second to only Chris Dodd who also Received "SWEETHEART LOAN DEALS " from CountryWide. This lax oversight, brought on by what some term as political donations ( a legal form of BRIBERY ?) resulted in the mess we now face.
Change is Coming. Change You You Better Be Ready For! Changes like higher taxes, higher interest rates, increased difficulty in obtaining a loan, plummeting home prices. Changes like More Jobs Going Overseas as a result of those increased taxes, fewer opportunities to fund what would otherwise be viable government programs, higher unemployment, more devaluation of the Dollar. Changes like higher gas prices & higher oil prices as a result of a devalued dollar.
Changes Are Coming, Brought to you by the people Obama trusted to be the head of his Vice Presidential selection committee. Change Brought To You By Chris Dodd & Barney Franks who refused in 2003 to let Congress address the calls for increased oversight at Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac. (After Dodd Got A Huge Sum In BRIB.... er Political Contributions and a "SWETHEART LOAN DEAL")
In 2005 John McCain co-sponsored the Federal Housing Enterprise Regulatory Reform Act of 2005 which called for increased oversight of Fannie and Freddie. Dodd and others killed that idea. And Obama was silent, doing nothing. McCain's Address on the floor of the Senate reveals his foresight concerning the looming crisis, saying:
"If Congress does not act, American taxpayers will continue to be exposed to the enormous risk that Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac pose to the housing market, the overall financial system, and the economy as a whole." Where was Obama then?
Joe Biden Says It Will Be "Patriotic" To Pay Higher Taxes”! Change Is Coming. Change You Better Get Used To! Because This Change is Certainly Change You Can Believe In.
Change To Your 401(k). Change to your employee funded retirement benefits; Change to the value of the dollar (A Weak Dollar Drives Oil Prices Higher); Change to everyone’s ability to get a loan; Change to your Credit Card Rates; Change To The Unemployment Rate; Change To Corporate Tax Rates and the higher unemployment that will bring; Yes Change Is Coming – And More Change Is In The Works.

Here's one the most comprehensive page of information on Sarah Palin on the Internet ... including videos of her saying her proposed $30 billion pipeline is the “will of God,” her saying a month ago she doesn’t know what the vice-president does, and her recently praising the biggest pork barrel spender in Congress Ted Stevens -

http://dailysource.org/palin

It has in-depth research, audio clips, videos, excerpts, and links to hundreds of articles, including many from newspapers and TV stations in Alaska. It has rare footage, including her telling the ‘08 convention of the Alaska Independence Party, whose aim is to give Alaska a vote on seceding from the U.S., to “keep up the good work.” The level of research is unparalled. The site’s editors and volunteers include an Emmy-award winning CNN reporter, the former operating editor of the Monitor’s web site, the former head of NPRs News Blog and the Executive Director of the Online News Association -

Obama has no experience and no qualifications. America knows little about him. What we do know is that he followed a racist minister, bought a home he could not afford except through favors for felons, has a possible past with a gentlemen known as Larry Sinclair, used drugs, wrote two books and has racist comments in both, his friend carried on terroist bombibgs against America. But he raised 66 million dollars last month. It is not what this says about Obama, but what it says about Americans. Are you that unhappy with this country that you would really turn it over to this man?

I think the silent majority has their head on straight.

My secondary concern is that now that this proposal has become a campaign issue - McSame is going to TALK and LIE about his position on this IMPORTANT matter also.

This vital issue has but one COLOR - GREEN!!

The money to pay for the McSame/Palin WARS and the Bush/Republican Wall Street BAILOUT money has to come from somewhere.

1. Has the ticket shown adequate calmness, coolness, and connectedness's under pressure to lead our nation [Presidential Temperament]?

2. Has the ticket shown sustained sound "Judgment and Caliber"?

3. Has the ticket shown adequate understanding of depth and degree to address the crucial challenges in their their purpose, policies, and positions [ Honesty, integrity and sincerity]?

4. Has the ticket sufficient "understanding and knowledge" of inside Washington workings [Experience]"?

5. Has the ticket reservoir resilience, wisdom, and vigor to address the present and future f our beloved "Great-grand Nation"?

6. Has the ticket enough joint foreign policy experience and exposure based on " Values, Virtues, Vastness, and " [American moral soul]"?

7. Has their campaign talk, slogans, ads, plans, and programs based on facts and are they free of fear, fiction, frivolous labels, unfair attacks, negativity, and impulsively? [No "imminent danger to national
security and safety"].

8. Has the ticket genuinely kept on message of country first and politics last and avoided copying [Message change"]?

9.Has the ticket message stayed away from Culture divide and war[ Disaster prevention ]?

10. Has the ticket resisted being surrounded, supported and surrogate's by divisiveness, distortion's, and destructive characters, [ Real patriotism VS shiftiness and shameless parrot-ism]?

11. Has the ticket thoughtful, real non-partisan, & non-impulsive plans to address our current economic crisis or political tactics and temperamental statements.

I have personally and professionally concluded that OBAMA-BIDEN ticket will lift and inspire our greatgrand nation back to its greatness within and restore our global standing with the use of maximum, firm
international diplomacy and minimal force if and when indicated {" Peace thru Strenght "}.

Yours sincerely,

as a key player in the S&L collapse and a member of the Keating 5 scandal, i am the uniquely qualified fossil to rant about financial system bail-outs.
