Obama on Letterman Talks Lipstick & Pigs

By Peter Slevin
CHICAGO -- No, he has never put lipstick on a pig, Sen. Barack Obama told David Letterman in an appearance to be broadcast tonight on CBS's "The Late Show with David Letterman."

"But I think it might be fun to try," Obama said.

In defense of his critique Tuesday in Virginia of Sen. John McCain's pitch that he's a changemaker, Obama said, "It's a common expression in at least Illinois. I don't know about in NYC. I don't know what you put lipstick on here."

"Keep in mind that technically, had I meant it this way, she would be the lipstick," Obama added, referring to GOP vice presidential nominee Sarah Palin. "The policies of John McCain would be the pig."

Obama, as he does on the campaign trail, called Palin a "skilled politician" and said his team knew little about her when she was chosen as McCain's number two.

"There's no doubt that she has been a phenomenon," Obama acknowledged.

"I mean, as somebody who used to be on the cover of Time and Newsweek -- those were the days -- I had a recent offer with Popular Mechanics: centerfold with a wrench. Look, she's on a wild ride and there's no doubt that she has energized the base."

Obama has a couple of lies and it is only the Prelims!

1.) Selma Got Me Born - NOT EXACTLY, your parents felt safe enough to have you in 1961 - Selma had no effect on your birth, as Selma was in1965. (Google 'Obama Selma' for his full March 4, 2007 speech and articles about its various untruths.)

2.) My Father Was A Goat Herder - NOT EXACTLY, he was a privileged, well educated youth, who went on to work with the Kenyan Government.

3.) Father Was A Proud Freedom Fighter - NOT EXACTLY, he was part of one of the most corrupt and violent governments Kenya has ever had.

4.) My Family Has Strong Ties To African Freedom - NOT EXACTLY, your cousin Raila Odinga has created mass violence in attempting to overturn a legitimate election in 2007, in Kenya . It is the first widespread violence in decades. The current government is pro-American
but Odinga wants to overthrow it and establish Muslim Sharia law. Your half-brother, Abongo Obama, is Odinga's follower. You interrupted your New Hampshire campaigning to speak to Odinga on the phone. Check out the following link for verification of that....and for more. Obama's cousin Odinga in Kenya ran for president and tried to get Sharia Muslim law in place there. When Odinga lost the elections, his followers have burned Christians' homes and then burned men, women and children alive in a Christian church where they took shelter. Obama SUPPORTED his cousin before the election process here started. Google Obama and Odinga and see what you get. No one wants to know the truth.

5.) My Grandmother Has Always Been A Christian - NOT EXACTLY,she does her daily Salat prayers at 5am according to her own interviews. Not to mention, Christianity wouldn't allow her to have been one of 14 wives to 1 man.

6.) My Name is African Swahili - NOT EXACTLY, your name is Arabic and 'Baraka'(from which Barack came) means 'blessed' in that language.
Hussein is also Arabic and so is Obama. Barack Hussein Obama is not half black. If elected, he would be the first Arab American President, not the first black President. Barack Hussein Obama is 50% Caucasian from his
mother's side and 43.75% Arabic and 6.25% African Negro from his father's side. While Barack Hussein Obama's father was from Kenya , his father's family was mainly Arabs.. Barack Hussein Obama's father was only 12.5%
African Negro and 87.5% Arab (his father's birth certificate even states he's Arab, not African Negro). From....and for

7.) I Never Practiced Islam - NOT EXACTLY, you practiced it daily at school, where you were registered as a Muslim and kept that faith for 31 years, until your wife made you change, so you could run for public office. 4-3-08 Article "Obama was 'quite religious in Islam' go to...

8.) My School In Indonesia Was Christian - NOT EXACTLY, you were Registered as Muslim there and got in trouble in Koranic Studies for making faces (check your own book). February 28, 2008. Kristoff from the
New York Times a year ago: Mr. Obama recalled the opening lines of the Arabic call to prayer, reciting them with a first-rate accent. In a remark that seemed delightfully uncalculated (it'll give Alabama voters heart attacks),Mr. Obama described the call to prayer as "one of the
prettiest sounds on Earth at sunset." This is just one example of what Pamela is talking about when she says "Obama's narrative is being altered, enhanced and manipulated to whitewash troubling facts."

9.) I Was Fluent In Indonesian - NOT EXACTLY, not one teacher says you could speak the language.

10.) Because I Lived In Indonesia , I Have More Foreign Experience - NOT EXACTLY, you were there from the ages of 6 to 10, and couldn't even speak the language. What did you learn, how to study the Koran and watch
cartoons.

11.) I Am Stronger On Foreign Affairs - NOT EXACTLY, except for Africa (surprise) and the Middle East (bigger surprise), you have never been anywhere else on the planet and thus have NO experience with our closest allies.

12.) I Blame My Early Drug Use On Ethnic Confusion - NOT EXACTLY, you were quite content in high school to be Barry Obama, no mention of Kenya and no mention of struggle to identify - your classmates said you were
just fine.

13.) An Ebony Article Moved Me To Run For Office - NOT EXACTLY, Ebony has yet to find the article you mention in your book. It doesn't, and never did, exist.

14.) A Life Magazine Article Changed My Outlook On Life - NOT EXACTLY, Life has yet to find the article you mention in your book. It doesn't, and never did, exist.

15.) I Won't Run On A National Ticket In '08 - NOT EXACTLY, here you are, despite saying, live on TV, that you would not have enough experience by then, and you are all about having experience first. 16.) Voting "Present" is Common In Illinois Senate - NOT EXACTLY, they are common for YOU, but not many others have 130 NO VOTES.

17.) Oops, I Misvoted - NOT EXACTLY, only when caught by church groups and Democrats, did you beg to change your misvote.

18.) I Was A Professor Of Law - NOT EXACTLY, you were a senior lecturer ON LEAVE.

19.) I Was A Constitutional Lawyer - NOT EXACTLY, you were a senior lecturer ON LEAVE.

20.) Without Me, There Would Be No Ethics Bill - NOT EXACTLY, you didn't write it, introduce it, change it, or create it.

21.) The Ethics Bill Was Hard To Pass - NOT EXACTLY, it took just 14 days from start to finish.

22.) I Wrote A Tough Nuclear Bill - NOT EXACTLY, your bill was
rejected by your own party for its pandering and lack of all
regulation - mainly because of your Nuclear donor, Exelon, from which
David Axelrod came.

23.) I Have Released My State Records - NOT EXACTLY, as of March, 2008, state bills you sponsored or voted for have yet to be released, exposing all the special interests pork hidden within.

24.) I Took On The Asbestos Altgeld Gardens Mess - NOT EXACTLY, you were part of a large group of people who remedied Altgeld Gardens . You failed to mention anyone else but yourself, in your books.

25.) My Economics Bill Will Help America - NOT EXACTLY, your 111
economic policies were just combined into a proposal which lost 99-0, and
even YOU voted against your own bill.

26.) I Have Been A Bold Leader In Illinois - NOT EXACTLY, even your own supporters claim to have not seen BOLD action on your part.

27.) I Passed 26 Of My Own Bills In One Year - NOT EXACTLY, they were not YOUR bills, but rather handed to you, after their creation by a fellow Senator, to assist you in a future bid for higher office.

28.) No One on my campaign contacted Canada about NAFTA - NOT EXACTLY, the Canadian Government issued the names and a memo of the
conversation your campaign had with them.

29.) I Am Tough On Terrorism - NOT EXACTLY, you missed the Iran Resolution vote on terrorism and your good friend Ali Abunimah supports the destruction off Israel .

30.) I Want All Votes To Count - NOT EXACTLY, you said let the delegates decide.

31.) I Want Americans To Decide - NOT EXACTLY, you prefer caucuses that limit the vote, confuse the voters, force a public vote, and only operate during small windows of time.

32.) I passed 900 Bills in the State Senate - NOT EXACTLY, you passed 26, most of which you didn't write yourself.

33.) I Believe In Fairness, Not Tactics - NOT EXACTLY, you used tactics to eliminate Alice Palmer from running against you.

34.) I Don't Take PAC Money - NOT EXACTLY, you take loads of it.

35.) I don't Have Lobbyists - NOT EXACTLY, you have over 47 lobbyists, and counting.

36.) My Campaign Had Nothing To Do With The 1984 Ad - NOT EXACTLY, your
own campaign worker made the ad on his Apple in one afternoon.

37.) I Have Always Been Against Iraq - NOT EXACTLY, you weren't in
office to vote against it AND you have voted to fund it every single
time.

38.) I Have Always Supported Universal Health Care - NOT EXACTLY, your plan leaves us all to pay for the 15,000,000 who don't have to buy it.

Is this representative of the liberal thought process? Just damn! What do you people know about Obama? His Columbia grades are locked away, his senior thesis is likewise. Do you really know what he believes? His tax policies sound like a new-age Karl Marx. He was not an honor graduate of Columbia, so how'd he get into Harvard Law School? Mmmmm...can you say affirmative action? And how'd he become the editor of the Law Review? Good chance for one Ivy league school to stick it in the eye of the others by having a 'minority' in such a position (you all know how liberals love to do this with no regard to qualifications). In eighteen months you've learned nothing about this guy because he's worked so hard to conceal his real background. Name even one issue he's really gone out on a limb to promote...other than himself that is. It doesn't exist. This guy is a complete farce, an empty suit with great skills when it comes to reading from a teleprompter. You wonder why dems keep losing national elections? You keep putting losers at the head of your party, and this is just one more. Get out in the real world. We, the people, don't buy your milk-toast, politically correct, condescending approach to life. And we can recognize a con when we see one.

The mainstream media has just devoted an entire day to whether Our Man was sexist when he utilized an expression that I’ve even heard from my own Father’s mouth. My Father wasn’t talking about women, he was talking about Republicans.

They want you to believe they’ve never heard the expression before?

McCain has used it and so has Clinton.

Reading what Obama said, clearly, the pig he was complaining about is the Republican campaign.
Obviously, Sarah Palin isn’t a pig with lipstick, or even a pit-bull with lipstick.
Actually, she is Dick Cheney with lipstick!

In case you missed it, the Civil War already happened. Yes the president was NOT a democrate; it was a republican. He did wage a war, to end slavery and to preserve the union.

Hmmmm, maybe you could be right tho; seeing as dems won't fight for anything that matters anymore. Where is JFK and B. Johnson when you need them.

Good grief! I can scarecely believe there are STILL people asserting that they "KNOW" Obama was referring to Palin, despite the lack of any mention of her, when he called McCain's "reinvention" of his campaign platform to cast himself as an agent of change "putting lipstick on a pig". Such "knowledge" is right up there with the WMD (you know the ones that evaporated into the desert air the moment America began pouring troops into Iraq, and the troops began pouring their blood into the sand?)that Bush "KNEW" Iraq had stockpiled, ready to zap us, when he ordered that idiot adventure. Armed with such "knowledge", how can we fail?

Obama really blew it. David Letterman gave him a chance to seriously discuss issues with a specific question: "What would you have done differently after 9/11". When he came to specifics on Afghanistan, he asked questions - "What do you do to get farmers to grow something other than poppies?" "What do you do about corruption in the Afghani government?". If he is going to present himself as the man with answers, he can't answer a question with a question.

In recent weeks, John McCain and the Republican Party have blatantly and without any shame adopted the Democratic campaign theme of “change”. It should be evident to an objective observer that Bush 43 and now McCain and Pailin are mere puppets to the true Republican national party leaders who control their strings. Cheney is one of the few of that inner cabal that have been calling the shots since the Nixon administration. They are in fact a continuation of the Nixon and Ford presidencies with only a disruption during the Carter and Clinton years. Bush 41( Head of the RNC during Nixon, former head of the CIA,VP to Reagan, and president is probably the real leader of this political Cosa Nostra if not a equal partner of this power sharing musical chairs game. His right and left hands have been Dick Cheney(former Sec.of Defense of Bush 41, former White House Chief of staff for Ford) and the other is Donald Rumsfeld(former Sec. of Defense for Ford and Bush 43,former special envoy to the Middle East during Reagan). Another member of this group, more likely a captain if not a full blown boss himself is James Baker (former C.O.S of Reagan, former Under Sec. of Commerce for Ford, former C.O.S and Sec of State for Bush 41, former Sec. of Treasury for Reagan, former chief legal advisor to Bush 43). Another captain or free lance enforcer is Karl Rove a college drop out and campaign manager for both Bush 41 and 43, also for Phil Gram who is McCain’s economic advisor.
Lets look at McCain’s staff of change.
On July 2, 2008, Steve Schmidt was given "full operational control" of McCain's campaign. Steve Schmidt prior to this was a top aide to Dick Cheney and a protégé to Karl Rove. Another advisor is Charles R. Black worked for Ronald Reagan's two Presidential campaigns in 1976 and 1980 and he was a senior political adviser to the 1992 re-election campaign of George H.W. Bush. Another advisor is Randy Scheunemann. He was project director for the Project for the New American Century. A neo-conservative think tank founded by non other than Dick Cheney, Donald Rumsfeld and Bill Kristol and others in 1996. Other signatories to this group reads like a who’s who of the last 8 years of the republican administration.
These people have never cared about small town america or “values” All they care about is war profiteering. Many of the signatories have never served in the military. Cheney and Rove both dodged the draft. Look at the statement of principles by the PNAC. Rumsfeld was a good friend of Saddam Huessin in the 80’s Cheney didn’t want Nelson Mandela free. These are the real puppet masters, they throw out the talking points about the left of being elitist and not caring about middle america and these same guys other than Rove have advanced degrees and are worth no less than 10 million dollars. People who support them need to extricate their heads out of Limbaugh and Hannity’s asses and see what is really happening to them. McCain is not his own man he confuses stories of his real life with a book he read “The Gulag Archipelago", in which a fellow prisoner - not a guard - silently drew a cross in the dirt with a stick.” An ironic twist to all this is Eliot A. Cohen, a signatory to the PNAC "Statement of Principles", responded in The Washington Post: "There is no evidence that generals as a class make wiser national security policymakers than civilians. George C. Marshall, our greatest soldier statesman after George Washington, opposed shipping arms to Britain in 1940. His boss, Franklin D. Roosevelt, with nary a day in uniform, thought otherwise. Whose judgment looks better?"
http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/newstopics/uselection2008/johnmccain/2581086/John-McCain-accused-of-plagiarising-Wikipedia-for-speeches.html. Even if you don’t like Obama there is no-way a sane person can want this continued blatant fleecing of our Nation.
Thes are all verifiable facts and can be found just with a google search. AIPAC and PNAC are the military industrial complex.
Other than the ultra affluent, how can anyone support the Republican Party? When will small town America realize that they are being duped into supporting the ultra-affluent agenda? The talking points of the right are so hypocritical that it becomes laughable. The red meat of the right is the so called Main stream Media as if Limbaugh, Hannity, et al. are not part of it. They demean celebrity status, however they tout one of their greatest presidents(Reagan) was an actor. They say they are the party of patriotism, yet many of the upper echelon of the party have never served, i.e. Cheney, Rumsfeld, Baker, Reagan. They say that they care about "Main Street" USA but only bail out the Whales of Wall Street. Yet small town America eat this tripe every year. They don't care about religion unless it can be used to stir up the base, nor science or technology unless there is a buck to be made. Small town America takes pride on its freedom but yet don't realize that over time we are becoming less free, ie wire tapping and other forms of domestic surveillance. They demean people of intelligence because they know many people of small town America don't have degrees and use it at a fake issue and call people who spent time in academia as elitist when many on the right serve on university boards and have part-time professorships. They say they are against affirmitive action but yet celebrate mediocrity, Bush43 and McCain graduating at the bottom of their classes. Who both came from already well established families and had all the opportunities and connections to excel. Why does small town America believes this is the party for them? Christian conservatives seem to the be the first ones who want to go to war and bomb someone before any diplomacy is tried. Why can't small town America and Christian conservatives realize they are being used as pawns just as much the Islamic fundamentalist are. Islamic fundamentalist come from small town Middle East and given the same kind of talking points as the evangelicals. They want prayer in school, no choice available to women, and believe to the core that their ideas about worship and country are the best. Wake up small town America you are being duped.Talking about who is more patriotic, symbols, lipstick and wearing pins are nothing more than distractions to the real issue of how a few select group of people have held power almost continuously for over 30 years. Yes the left has their own political power groups but none have been so effective at pushing forward an agenda that is fundamentally bad for the U.S. and in a larger view the entire world. I stress again the now defunct PNAC and the AIPAC have been slowly pushing us closer to another World War. Bush41 and et al have been doing this and no one calls them on it. Every Republican administration has basically the same people recycled since Nixon. Just do a little research and you will see that these people are just pushing this agenda of some kind of Pax Americana and not taking into account that maybe other nations of the world might not like that and if not bomb them. Many people who support the Republican party, really need to read "1984" by George Orwell and see how we as nation have been inching closer to that type of society. People think this story is about a communist society, but it is more about how a society is kept in a constant state of fear in order for the ruling class to stay in control. Doublespeak, patriotism to the point of frenzy, censorship, erosion of civil liberties (not respecting the Constitution) is happening right in front of us. The consolidation of government (the executive branch has never been more powerful than ever, gridlocked legislature with only two parties for representation, a judiciary that just kowtows to the executive branch). No real independent journalism. Cameras placed on every street corner. This may sound like delusional conspiracy stuff, but I implore people to research for themselves to really see what is happening to them. People think this could never happen here in the U.S. but all this has already happening, slowly, incrementally all under the guise of "keeping America safe"

Same with the ones who claim Obama went to Islamic schools, hates women and is a practicing Muslim. Too stupid to read the facts, but smart enough to do what Rush tells them to spew. And too brainless to prove their claims of fact.

Right now I could insert a favorite comment from a farmer friend of mine about where these folks come from, but as he is fond of saying; "You can't legislate common sense and you can't fix barnyard stupid."

God must be looking at them and saying to himself, "WHAT was I thinking?"

As Tweety Bird would say, "Ooooooh, you hypo-twits!" So much for the Liberal Media! A few months ago, an elitist magazine puts an illustration of Obama dressed as a Middle-Eastern Muslim fist bumping with his oddly intense looking Black wife, and the reaction? "Is this representation true?" "Can they be trusted?" "How ironic is this cartoon, really?" This week, Obama finally has a little -- a little -- backbone and a lot of intellect in his choice of retaliatory insult, and instead of seeing it for what it is, dumba** racist Americans, including its media, manage to turn an occasion where a belittled man gets back up and asserts his manhood into an opportunity to harken back to the days when a Black man better not even look at a White woman, not to mention insult her -- even if she is a self-described redneck pitbull in lipstick. Blame the mass media if America votes for more of the same over change that looks and acts like what it is!

What did Hillary say, if you can't take the heat get out of the kitchen? That phrase about the pig is so common in politics that its been used by every party in every election. If Palin is insulted, why doesn't SHE say so? Is McCain her knight in shining armor? What kind of VP can't stand up for herself or himself? I thought it was great on Letterman when Obama said, if I HAD been referring to the vice president nominee, she would have been the lipstick, not the pig. The pig was McCain's policies. Get onto the issues, McCain, or shut up.

imagine if you will an election that lasts maybe 2-3 months, has very limited media coverage - say 1 or 2 debates for party election and overall election, say maybe more than two parties (aka less polarization) and rather than listening to mindless bantering campaign gunk for months and months, it is replaced with the techno/new age of an audio/video dvd delivered to each home of the elected representative's stance on all the issues - their own stance, rather than a long dissertation of crap about that other candidate/s. What could that do for our...
1. fiscal budget?
2. free time?
3. peace of mind?
4. time to think..think..think with our own brain...rather than the media's 'sybil' brain.

I don't know about you, but I'm getting goosebumps just thinking about the possibilities.

I can't believe this is even getting air time. All this does is allow the GOP to deflect the conversation away from a topic where they will loose: The issues!
Whoever "anonymous" is to post the op-ed by Michael Graham, I guess it's not sexist when Senator McCain says "lipstick on a pig" when it comes to Senator Clinton's health care plan (October 2007), but it is sexist when Senator Obama uses the same phrase about Senator McCain's new "change" mantra. What's the difference? Does Senator Clinton not wear lipstick? Welcome to the world of GOP hypocrisy and double-standards!

By Michael Graham | Thursday, September 11, 2008 Bostonherald.com | Op-Ed

Let’s start with the obvious and inarguable: Of course Sen. Barack Obama’s comment about “lipstick on a pig” was a reference to Supergirl Sarah Palin.
You know it, I know it and the partisan crowd that literally rose to their feet and cheered when they heard it know it.
And it’s nothing new.

Democrats shot the lipstick line at Gov. Palin on their official Web site last week with a posting entitled “McCain’s Selection of Palin is Lipstick on a Pig” - accompanied by what I’m sure was intended to be a flattering photo of the Alaska outdoorswoman.

there was anyone in the audience still too dense to get it - say, an employee of CNN, perhaps - Obama immediately followed up with a reference to the McCain/Palin campaign wrapping “an old fish in a piece of paper called ‘change.’ ”
A lipstick-wearing pig and an old fish? Gee, who could he possibly be talking about?

So please, my Obama-supporting friends, let’s stop the nonsense about how Obama’s lipstick talk was, as he put it yesterday, an “innocent comment,” or that the reaction is “phony outrage.”

When Palin talks about community organizers in dishonorable way, I tend to ask what she did immediately after graduation. Obama helped in that way and later joined Illinois state senate for quite a long time. Then became a United States Senator from Illinois. I thought he has always been responsible for the way he voted in his capacity. This to me is more than being a mayor of Wasilla - 9,000 residents. In fact, Obama deals with that only in law school where he is professor and I think Palin needs to enroll there to know what's it like to be a University Lecturer.

Another issue is Palin continuation to tout McCain record as a change agent through his career. Actually who on planet earth does not know McCain voted with Bush 90% of the time. Is this the change agent my foot?

Still there is the issue Palin said and continue to say in the campaign trail about what she don't want. She is not going to Washington to seek good opinion from the commentator and pollsters and Americans. I thought being a leader you expect challenges of being merited according to the performance. Actually it shocked me to learn if Americans lose job, she doesn't seek their good opinion. If Americans don't have access to health care, she doesn't care. After all, she didn't go to Washington to seek good opinion.

I was raised Republican. Most of my relatives are Republican. Not surprisingly, they're also angry, racist, and afraid of the ever-changing world. I spend a lot of time trying to make sense of how these people I love can continue to support politicians who are morally bankrupt. I think it's largely tribal. I think that partisan identity combined with fear causes many good-hearted people to become mired in cynicism. They don't really believe in McCain (or Bush, whoever they're being steered towards) but they seem to find some solace in being part of a tribe--even when their tribe operates on lies, cynicism, and destruction.

A couple of things. You're right, I don't see the connection between your comment and the article. I wonder are you familiar with how political campaigns across the world function? This is what happens in politics all of the time. People research their opponent's political past. They check to find contradictions in policy, errors in judgment, what the voting record is etc. Remember when the Republicans wrote those stories about Obama's step brother in Kenya? They checked into everything that had ever happened at his church and his birth certificate. They researched his wife's dissertation. They did so much more too. I mean it was what they called helping the voters know Obama. Why are you surprised that Democrats do it too?

Obama talked about considerably more on Letterman last night than this ridiculous, Republican manufactured 'controversy' about whether when he used the often used phrase "you can't put lipstick" on a pig, he meant to insult Gov. Palin, no he didn't, he was talking about Sen. McCain's attempts to recycle the old, failed Bush policies of the past 8 years and calling it 'change'. The McCain campaign is making 'much ado about nothing', typical.

Letterman, to my surprise and his credit, stopped playing the baffoon last night and asked intelligent questions, more intelligent than many in the press have been asking lately and he let Sen. Obama speak at some length. If Peter Slevin
wanted to report on Sen. Obama's apearance on the Letterman show, he should have mentioned that, too.

It is quite apparent that, as they really can't run on the past 8 years of failed Bush/Republican policies, the McCain/Palin camp are trying to make this a campaign about personalities. Well, given the state the country is in, I for one think the 2008 Election campaign should be about more than 'trivial pursuits'. I also think it's about time for the Republican candidates to start appearing on their own. If Gov. Palin can't stand up before an audience of citizens and the press, then she shouldn't be on the ticket.

Democratic presidential candidate Sen. Barack Obama tried to direct more than $3 million in taxpayer funds to a Chicago museum whose chairman is one of the Illinois senator's largest campaign fundraisers.

Mr. Obama has twice since fiscal 2006 sought to have taxpayers foot the bill for a new theater projector and other equipment at the Adler Planetarium on the Lake Michigan waterfront. Neither of the requests, which totaled $3.3 million, was approved by Congress, the museum said.

The planetarium's chairman, then and still, is Frank Clark, chief executive of ComEd, a unit of Chicago-based Exelon Energy. He has pledged to raise more than $200,000 for Mr. Obama's run for the White House.

Moreover, the Adler Planetarium is represented by the lobbying firm National Group LLP, co-founded by William Oldaker, who helped launch Sen. Joseph R. Biden Jr.'s political action committee in 2005. Mr. Oldaker, a partner with the Delaware Democrat's son in another Washington lobbying and law firm, is no longer involved with Mr. Biden's PAC, Unite Our States.

I am in a book club for women. Last night when we met we discussed the comment. Except for 1 white woman in the group (there are 3), none of the others had any problem with this comment. We interpreted it entirely different. We thought that he was referencing McCain trying to disguise his economic policies as being different than Bush's policies. All of the other women in the group are either Native American, Asian, Latina, or African American. We were really astounded that this is what goes for sexism. All of the non-white women felt that if this is what constitutes sexism then we have been greatly abused/offended each and every day on a much deeper level. We are more concerned about hiring opportunities, education for our children, equal pay for equal work, health care, and social justice.

Today is a day to remember those who have served our country, those who have provided a lifetime of service to our way of life, those who have children serving in our Armed Forces, and most of all those who have paid the ultimate price for our freedom.

Today is also a day to remember that some have worshiped in a church that preaches and wants us to believe that America deserved the attacks of 9/11. Also remember that a particular presidential candidate holds a close friendship to this pastor (for 20 years).

Candidates and Pastors alike should never bestow evil upon our great nation.

God has asked us to examine ourselves, turn from our mistakes, and help one another in a spirit of community. It is ungodly and childish to argue over trivial matters when so much is at stake. To fight over such things is, as Jesus said, "To strain at a gnat, while swallowing a camel."

Words Obama Will Regret
By Ken Blackwell

On Monday, Senator Obama uttered one sentence that could haunt him until Election Day. He said of Senator McCain and Governor Palin telling voters they would bring change, "they must think you're stupid." Given his stances on the surge, social issues, and his past, Mr. Obama will regret those words.

Let's start with social issues like Second Amendment freedoms. Mr. Obama denies that he's ever supported banning handguns, right after the landmark Heller case where the Supreme Court struck down Washington D.C.'s handgun ban.

When a 1996 questionnaire surfaced that had asked if Mr. Obama supported banning all handguns, his one-word written answer was "yes." He said an unnamed staffer must have filled it out without his knowledge. Then another copy surfaced -- this one with his handwriting on it. He says he must not have read that particular question. Sure.

On the hot-button issue of abortion, last month saw a growing concern over Mr. Obama's opposition to the Born-Alive Infants Protection Act, which states if an abortion is botched and a live birth results, the baby is entitled to medical care. The federal version of this law unanimously passed the U.S. Senate.

However, when a version of this bill came to the Illinois Senate, Mr. Obama opposed it. When confronted last month with the fact that the federal version of this bill had been supported by the likes of Ted Kennedy and Barbara Boxer, Mr. Obama said the he would have supported the federal version. Those suggesting otherwise were lying, he said. Then it was revealed that a second bill was introduced in the Illinois Senate, and this one was identical to the federal version. Mr. Obama opposed that bill as well. He has yet to come up with an explanation on that one.

y'all need to simmer down and keep some faith. The Repugs have no sense of class and are a bunch of scum bags. Every dog - pit bull or pig - McCin must have their day. The battle is not lost until the fat lady sings.
The Repugs politics of fear & smear are nothing to run from. it proves they have nothing to say..it is only the mindless idiots, bigots & racists that have been rallying to the Palin beat. Repugs pander to peoples fears not to their hopes and desires.
The US has plenty to lose - as the world (yes we are a part of that thing) is willing Barack to win. It would be the start of a new US commitment to the world and show that it wants to lead rather than pander to fear lies and deceit - who cannot remember the infamous dossier.
You cannot lead with fear- confidence comes with speaking face to face with people and saying what you think and listening to them as well-that is tru strength.
Democrats and liberals need to stop chasing their tails and ante up against the repugs - do not be afraid to say what you mean and mean what you say.

It looks like the repugs are dismantling Barack's campaign as was easily predicted.

Barack's surrogates have been surprisingly ineffective at getting national exposure for their counter attacks. Perhaps it's because the media is obsessively focused on Barack and of course Barack has been unable to avoid talking about Palin.

It'd be one thing if McCain could be effectively marginalized and belittled because he is hiding behind a woman's skirt and his manhood be called into question. But, that'd be too much to expect.

Here and there, there is a comment suggesting that the large support of Obama amongst blacks is racist. Pls stop. It is just an incredibly odd comment. Of course - people will be prone to support one person from the same group. I think that would apply to other groups too such as Greek-Americans, Swedish-Americans, Cuban-Americans, if there was a candidate with heritage from those groups.

And I would guess this kind of support is further pronounced due to a perception the Presidency is out of reach for an African-American because of race.

On the other hand, look at exit polls from the primaries and you can clearly see that whites in some parts of the country will not vote on Obama because he is black.

Btw, I am white. I will vote for Obama. Not because he is black but because I think he is the best person for the gig and I just don't like the agenda (or track record) of the republicans.

DAVID FRUM: The Democrats’ Credibility Gap
Bob Shrum tells us that John McCain and Sarah Palin are falling short in their populism. Nobody has deployed the rhetoric of populism more ferociously and more often than Bob Shrum, so his assessment carries weight.

Yet populism carries risks too—and the Democrats are now encountering them.

Democratic-leaning pollster Stan Greenberg has just published a fascinating memo detailing one of the most dangerous of those risks:

Democratic populism is destroying Democratic credibility on national security.

Let's go to the numbers.

Republicans have owned the national security issue since the late 1960s. After 9/11, the Republican advantage on poll questions spread to an astounding 30 points.

But since 2005, the Republican advantage has dwindled. By the fall of 2007, the two parties had reached near parity on the issue, only 3 points apart—the best Democratic result since Barry Goldwater led the Republican party!

That parity did not last. Over the past year, Republican standing on the issue has revived while Democratic credibility has tumbled. In Greenberg's latest polling, the Republicans now hold a 14-point lead, 49-35, a return to the kind of advantage they held in the 1980s.

What's going on?

Greenberg advances three reasons, but here is the most important and provocative:

When asked to choose why they think Democrats are weak on security, the number one reason—picked by 33% of all respondents—is that Democrats" change positions depending on public opinion."

“Moreover, when we ask respondents to compare the two parties, likely voters choose Democrats over Republicans as the party "too focused on public opinion" by a 27-point margin. Even Democratic base voters agree: liberal Democrats point to their own party as the one "too focused on public opinion" by an 18-point margin, and moderate/ conservative Democrats say this by 25 points.

In 2001-2002, Democrats chased public opinion in a hawkish direction. In 2004-2007, they chased public opinion in a dovish direction. In 2006, when the war seemed hopeless, that reversal paid off for Democrats. But as conditions have improved in Iraq, Republicans have been vindicated—and Democrats look weak and opportunistic.

Now when Bob Shrum talks of "populism," he has something very specific and highly ideological in mind. But most Americans—and most working politicians—use the word "populism" in a more general sense. They use it to mean, "doing what is popular."

You might think that doing what is popular is always good politics. That would seem true almost by definition!

And in the very short term, it has been true for Democrats.

But there is a longer term too. Voters remember. They compare results. They recall who stayed firm in the moment of decision and who flinched. And if the person who stood firm is also proven right—voters reward it.

Don't misunderstand. There are prizes for the vacillating and the time-serving. John Kerry is still senator from Massachusetts after all. But there is a price to be paid too for too obvious vote-catching—and on national security, the Democrats have already begun to pay it. Just how high that price will go, we must wait until November to know.

Obama couldn't even come together with the Clinton's in his own party - much less work across party lines or impress world leaders with his lack of judgement and lack of skill. I'm proud of my country continuing to defend our way of life, including the right to vote and the right to free speech. In recognition of 9/11, I salute service to America the beautiful.

Don't fall on these pony liar candidates. They don't have good intention for this country. It's all about them and their cronies. Hard working people like us are the one going into the crack. Allow me to simplify for the masses: In this current game of politics, Obama is clearly outperforming McCain. The McCain camp is wasting time and resources trying to gain ground by attacking meaningless issues like tire guages and lipstick. As far as who would make a better president, what more do you have to base it on? If you really want to "scratch the surface" to see what lies beneath and examine the "real issues," you might as well dig to China. The lies and deception go deep on both sides. It's the nature of politics. Don't kid yourself. Your favorite is a liar just like the other guy's favorite.

AMERICA OBAMA JIHAD
Synthesis & Prospective

Obama has finally revealed himself totally ignorant of IDEOLOGY WAR.
Obama could send as many soldiers to be killed, and spend as many billions of dollars, in Afghanistan instead of Iraq (what an innovative revolution ! ) : that would not change one iota, on the long term, in the War against Islam Terrorism.

The real and only target on the long term being the Madrasas, Islamic Schools & Centres, etc. who teach tirelessly the murderous hatred of all non-Muslims : (Jews, Christians, Hindouists, Buddhists, Shintoists, Animists, Shamanists, Marxists, etc.)

Al-Qaida, Talibans, Ayatollahs, Mollahs, Hezbollah, Hamas, and other similar Syndicates, all fully loaded with petrodollars, but feeling often humiliated, are thirsting for revenge, and want to set to Occident a spectacular and unforgettable example of the true MUHAMMADAN JIHAD.
Therefore, they will not hesitate, one minute, to use the Atomic (or other sophisticated) Weapon to wipe off Israel, to set ablaze the Middle East Oil reserves (of the “civilized World”) and to strike the powerful but “dangerously vulnerable” USA …
And then, the 11-9 surprise of the twin towers of New-York will be nothing compared to the Hell Disaster to come.

And here again, Barack Hosein Obama (by himself and with his background family “in limits”) appears completely disarmed, glued and vulnerable in the interlocked Fundamentals of this Islam Terrorism Ideology.
At least, John Mc Cain offers an efficient guaranty of the valuable experience of collective discipline, which is one of the minimum conditions of waging war against Terrorism.

{-{-{: On the way of waging War efficiently, on the long term, against Islamic Terrorism, without ENDLESSLY sacrificing life of Soldiers and wasting Billions of Dollars :
SEE : http://jerusalem-4thtemple-natan.blogspot.com
Post : “ROBOMARTYRS” }-}-}
**************************************************************************************

Installed in his demagogic but ignorant mental frame, Barack Hosein Obama has nevertheless revealed himself as ignorant of ISLAM as he is ignorant of this IDEOLOGY WAR, when he declared pompously :
“Al-Qaida and Talibans have perverted Islam !”

Al-Qaida and Talibans have NOT “perverted Islam”, as Obama would like so much to think :
Al-Qaida, Talibans, Ayatollahs, Mollahs, Madrasas, Hezbollah, Hamas, etc. are just longing for THE original Islam Fundamentals :

In that respect, ambitious Obama would be well inspired to spare ten minutes of his life to read, for instance, Koran Sura IX “al-Tuwba” -“Immunity”- in Arabic or in English (on condition of bewaring of most Koran translations, which are biased and toned down to avoid to reveal to Westerners the true and crude Islam)

Here after, some Koran extracts of this Sura - Sura IX “al-Tuwba” -“Immunity” - (translated in English), plus other little Koran extracts, from the Book On-Line : “The Temple of Solomon could not stand on its Water-Tower”:

FOLDER 54

Page 1984 - 5
Koran : Sura : IV : "An-Nisa" : "Women" : Verse : 95 :
Not equal are those Believers who stay at home
(other than those who have a disabling hurt)
and those who strive and fight in the cause of Allah
with their goods and their lives.
Allah has conferred on those who fight with their wealth and lives
a rank above those who stay at home.
To all in Faith has Allah promised good.
But He will bestow on those who fight
a greater Reward (in Paradise) than on those who stay at home.

Koran : Sura VIII : "Al-Anfal" : "The Loot" : Verse : 67 :
It is not fitting for a Prophet that he should make any prisoner of war
until he has fought and slaughtered all the Unbelievers on earth.

Page 1986
Koran : Sura IX : "Al-Tawba" : "Immunity" : Verse : 20 :
Those who believe, and suffer exile
and strive and fight in the cause of Allah
with their goods and their lives,
will have the highest rank in the sight of Allah (in Paradise) :
They are the people who will achieve Salvation.

Koran : Sura IX : "Al-Tawba" : "Immunity" : Verse : 24 :
Recite (Muhammad) :
If it be that your fathers, your sons, your brothers, your mates,
or your kindred, the wealth that you have gained,
the commerce in which you fear a decline,
or the dwellings in which you delight
- (if all these) are dearer to you than Allah, and His Messenger,
and the fighting in His cause (Jihad) –
then wait until Allah brings about His Decision (at the Final Judgment):
- Allah does not welcome transgressing people -

Koran : Sura IX : "Al-Tawba" : "Immunity" : Verse : 30 :
The Jews say: “Uzair (?) is the son of Allah.”(?),
and the Christians say : “The Messiah (Jesus) is the son of Allah.”
- That is their saying with their mouths ! -
In this, they but imitate what the unbelievers of old used to say.
May Allah massacre them all !
How perverse are they !

Koran : Sura IX : "Al-Tawba" : "Immunity" : Verse : 38-39 (extracts):
O you who believe !
Very little is the fleeting pleasure of this life,
compared with the Hereafter (after the Resurrection).
If you not go forth to fight,
Allah will punish you with a painful doom in (Hell)
And put others in your place.
But Him you could not harm in the least.
- For Allah has power over all things. -

Koran : Sura IX : "Al-Tawba" : "Immunity" : Verse : 73 :
O Prophet ! Fight hard against the Unbelievers and the Hypocrites,
Be ruthless against them.
Their ultimate abode will be Hell
- an evil refuge indeed. -

Koran : Sura IX : "Al-Tawba" : "Immunity" : Verse : 111 :
Allah has purchased of the believers their persons and their goods :
They fight His Jihad
For them in return will be the Garden (of Paradise)
Let them slay or be slain !

Koran : Sura IX : "Al-Tawba" : "Immunity" : Verse : 123 :
O you who believe!
Fight all Unbelievers who gird you about,
and let them find you always ruthless :
Know that Allah is with those who fear Him !

Koran : Sura IX : "Al-Tawba" : "Immunity" : Verse : 29 :
Fight those who do not believe in Allah nor the Last Day,
nor hold as forbidden
that which has been forbidden by Allah and His Prophet,
nor acknowledge the religion of Truth (Islam)
and fight the People of the Book (Jews and Christians),
until they pay the Jizya
(Tribute which must be paid to the Moslems by all the “dhimmis”
i.e. by the Christians and the Jews)
with willing submission,
and feel themselves subjected and humiliated !

Page 1989
Koran : Sura II : "Al-Baqara : The (Red) Cow" : Verse : 247 :
Allah grants His kingdom to whom He pleases.
- Allah is All-Embracing, All-Knowing. -

Page 1990
Koran : Sura : IV : "An-Nisa" : "Women" : Verse : 76 :
Those who believe, fight in the cause of Allah,
and those who reject (Islam) Faith, fight for the cause of Evil:
So fight you against the friends of Satan,
as the strategy of Satan will always be weaker.

It would be interesting if the Medias would decide to study seriously the problem of WORLD ISLAM IDEOLOGY, instead of basking in a deaf-and-blind conventional ambiguity :
All the more so as the issue of this Islam Ideology problem is certainly one of the most challenging in this century, considering the colossal weight of the Petro-Dollars, considering the dazzling possibilities offered by biological, chemical and atomic weapons, and considering the irreversible fanaticism of the Warriors of Islam and of their Robo-Martyrs…

LIPSTICK NOT ISSUES

If the Republicans keep talking about lipstick it diverts attention away from the issues. And, the issues don't look to good for the Republicans right now. After 8 years of owning the House, the Senate, the Supreme Court and the Presidency the USA is in one hell of a mess.

BLOOD, OIL AND MONEY

Unemployment at its highest, the two major banks just failed last Sunday, two wars, a President who deals in Oil and Arms for huge personal profits, a Vice-President who deals in Oil and Arms for huge personal profits. And all of this at the expense of the little guys, the underdogs, and, in the case of the military, these poor folks are actually fighting and dying so Bush/Cheney/McCain can become rich with blood money for oil. Of course they're going to talk about lipstick. The issues scare the hell out of them.

THE SPINELESS MEDIA

The media is owned by the Republican Party, and they know it. The media is the water-boy for the Republican Party. They're scared of the Bush/Cheney/McCain machine which is an elitist organization that has billions of dollars to spend attacking anybody who opposes it. The media know it and they report the news as they are instructed by Bush/Cheney/McCain. So if the Bush/Cheney/McCain machine instruct the media to write about lipstick instead of issues such as bank failures, unemployment, lack of public health care, two failed wars, the Bush/Cheney/McCain/Palin personal profits at the public expense, the media will dutifully follow instructions instead of writing about real issues.

That LNAB is a liar and spreads mis-information just like mcSame is well established now.

Don't try the tired old spin on Obama and his pastor There are many such tenuous connections that McCain & Palin have to rabid right wing pastors (Palin's own), Church leaders (Ralph reed), fundemantalist leaders (who have denounced jews and other races).

If you have been listening to Mcain/Palin (I know you can't) , it is very clear who the snake oil salesman is. A guy that's been the govt for the past years suddenly changes all his positions and says he is a change agent. Talk about lipstick on the pig !

If McCain & Palin get really vetted, it will look horrible. And you show the phony outrage in Obama's vetting after the past 15 months ?

i think the most important comment obama made on letterman was the need to focus on afghanistan and pakistan as they are the main axes of terror. obama even had the courage to criticize the US policy of supporting the former dictator musharraf to the tune of ten billion dollars when it was well known that he knowingly allowed al qaeda and the taliban to operate out of pakistan.

Posted by: brock101 | September 11, 2008 12:35 AM | Report abuse

I am amazed at the absolute ignorance and hatred on both sides of the political spectrum. I personally think both Obama and McCain are great Americans for being willing to put themselves out there and run for president. Neither man is who i would have wanted to be the candidates for president (I think Richardson or Romney woudl have been superior candidates to these two) but i can respect them as people. But I am absolutely disgusted by everyone's focus on issues that mean absolutely nothing in regards to how either candidate would govern - Ayers, McCain's affairs, lipstick, etc - and the personal attacks. These attacks and innuendos are a distraction from the real issues - national security, healthcare, the economy. Read for yourself each man's stances on the issues and make an educated decision.

Though I am very disappointed by the attitudes on this blog for not having a real discourse but instead resort to name calling and stupidity, I still have faith in our democracy and the majority of the people of this country to make the right choice.

(George W. Bush doesn't count because he was anointed the first time around by our biased supreme court).

Well, good luck to your children if McCain gets in, by your efforts, and decides Iran must die so he can prove something to HIS dad, or prove we could have won in Vietnam, or something similarly psychotic. Get him in and we WILL be in another war within a couple of years. Not to mention Iraq for another decade or more. Spending 12 billion a month that could have helped YOUR children get a better education or healthcare.

Self-destruction would be merely tragic if it was just you and your family. But it's my family, too, who are victimized by these Stone Age mentalities you're so crazy about. The most incredible part is that it's people like you they end up targeting with their legislation every time and that you're so lapdog eager to help them do it.

There were a couple things, though, that the story didn’t say. One has to do with the infamous tasering incident in which Trooper Wooten is accused of ‘tasering his 11-year old son’. When you hear about someone tasering an 11-year old, or even ‘allegedly’ tasering an 11-year old, it’s pretty hard to give them the benefit of the doubt. That’s why I was glad that the head of the Public Safety Employees Association, John Cyr, was interviewed two days ago on KUDO radio, and explained the seemingly unforgivable tasering event.

First, the incident happened when the boy asked to see what it felt like, and prove to his friends that he wasn’t a “Mama’s Boy”. Wooten agreed to do it. According to Cyr, Wooten was a taser instructor, and used a training cartridge on the lightest setting and used alligator clips on the boys shirt, rather than the usual skin contacts. The burst was less than one second. Wooten’s wife was in the room at the time, and the entire family knew of the incident. It became an issue ONLY when divorce papers were filed. Wooten acknowledged bad judgment and was disciplined.

Another accusation that gets mentioned frequently is that Wooten was drinking beer in his squad car. This charge was investigated by an independent investigator who found the charge to be “unsustained”. However, Colonel Julia Grimes, who reviewed the investigation, decided to change the finding of the report to “sustained”. She changed the report on her own and gave no reason. When John Cyr, who, in 30 years, had never seen a member of the command staff change the report asked her why she did it. She replied, “Are you willing to call Sarah Palin a liar?” He said, “yes”. She didn’t respond, and the report stayed changed.

It’s interesting to note that Grimes had received a two page typed email from Palin in 2005, calling Wooten a ‘loose canon’ and a ‘ticking timebomb’, discussing his marital infidelity and a host of accusations which have since been investigated. All allegations were settled in 2006 after a thorough investigation. The investigation resulted in a misdemeanor game violation, and improper use of state equipment. No charges or complaints have ever been filed against Wooten by any member of the public, other than the Palin family and friends, according to Cyr.

Sir you are a liar. I was in those caucuses, and the fact is that the crowds that showed up were in favor of Obama -- ordinary people, men, women, families, young and old. There were plenty of hillary supporters as well, and we all got along just fine.

Lies will not benefit you in the end; in the end, what comes around goes around.

Most Hillary supporters are as tired of the lies of the last 8 years as anyone, and don't want to see a repeat under Palin-McCain

Palin as Comander in Chief if McCain croaks.

What makes her qualified ?

She's sending her son off to war this week, she'll know what it's like and how all the other mothers will feel.

She'll also get the best input from the best military minds in the world but will make the decision without a bit of testosterone influencing her decisions.

see, you've been reading Obama's website. Palin AoG church went radical..it took her 2 months to leave. You really should check your facts instead of eating the propaganda with your kool-aid

you Obots are simply clueless

I know...I must be a racist since I don't want to GD America...I keep wondering...how does a guy sit in the pew for 20+ years and NOT get it until that enormous period of time that his pastor just might be off his rails a bit?

I guess it's just another example of that finally honed judgment Obama has. Us plebeians just don't get it. BTW..it took Oprah about 2 months to leave after the church when radical and weird. Ultimately though...she did drink the kool-aid

We'll take your Columbia undergrad, magna cum laude graduate from Harvard Law School who is a constitutional law professor, and former president of the Harvard Law Review to run our country.

We'll trade you at least two, maybe three, K-mart moms to run yours.

Of course, we already have universal health care, affordable university education and a sound economy - but hey, if you're not using him.

We'll buy you guys before the end of the next term!!

Court documents show that Judge Suddock was disturbed by the alleged attacks by Palin and her family members on Wooten’s behavior and character. “Disparaging will not be tolerated—it is a form of child abuse,” the judge told a settlement hearing in October 2005, according to typed notes of the proceedings. The judge added: “Relatives cannot disparage either. If occurs [sic] the parent needs to set boundaries for their relatives.”

and later in the article

As the divorce case dragged on, the judge’s concern about family “disparagement” appeared to deepen. In an order signed Jan. 31, 2006, which granted Palin’s sister and Wooten a final divorce decree, Judge Suddock continued to express concern about attacks by Palin’s family on Wooten. The judge even threatened to curb Palin’s sister’s child custody rights if family criticism of Wooten continued.

In monitoring how a joint-custody arrangement worked out, the judge said in his order that he would pay particular attention to problems noted by a “custody investigator,” specifically “the disparagement of the father [Wooten] by the mother [Molly Hackett, Sarah Palin's sister] and her family members.”

“It is the mother’s [Hackett's] responsibility to set boundaries for her relatives and insure [sic] they respect them, and the disparagement by either parent, or their surrogates is emotional child abuse,” Judge Suddock wrote. He added that: “If the court finds it is necessary due to disparagement in the Mat-Su Valley [the area north of Anchorage where Palin and her extended family live], for the children’s best interests, it [the court] will not hesitate to order custody to the father and a move into Anchorage.”

It's odd for me being a part of both countries to be watching this imbecility of lies and innuendo that has sadly become commonplace in America in place of discourse and critical reasoning needed desperately. I'm not sure about lipstick on a pig but we sure detect a pig in a poke with this.

I marvel that I for one once held Mr. McCain in a degree of esteem and in distress watched him slide down the well common-place greased slide of poison and negativity that has ruined many an American candidate and election. This leads to bad and ineffective leadership which has been the story in the states for a great many years. To be so mired in problems and resorting to and tolerating this gruel is stunningly dreadful for this election as well as the greater civic good of the country.

I would add if Mr. McCain wins by these means employed by his party his victory will be a loser simply for the level of hatred the Democrats will bring to bear and their numbers as we preceive things will be far more substantial in congress.

Canada by the way has an election on hand coming which will be a completed matter by mid-October. I rather doubt we could tolerate anything to go much longer than that. Foretunatly the length of time allows for a great deal less mischief.

I'm not sweet on McCain but our founding fathers gave us a tool for this situation. It's called DIVIDED GOVERNMENT. Something you probably don't have in your tool kit.

That is a tool that enough Americans are going to bring OUT OF STORAGE this election season to get us through to 2012 when the DNC will have learned not to pull this crap (because they'll all be fired) and perhaps if we're lucky, a REAL CANDIDATE will run for office without having to face the fraud that defined the Democrats 2008 Primary season.

Sometimes, you just have to say no. The Republicans should have said NO in 2000. Look what we got when they installed another candidate with an UNVETTED and INACURATE record as governor, and visible associations with people steeped in superstition and bigoted rhetoric. The American people should have said NO.. even if he was forced on you by your party.

"WHO IS STUPID"?

Quite honestly, most Americans, apparently.

Up here in Canada, we've watched while Dubya took a solid economy and turned it into mush over the course of his first 4 years.

As sad as it was to watch, we took solace in watching our dollar go from 66 cents to about 80 cents USD.

We didn't think you Americans were stupid at the time. It wasn't really your fault. You didn't know what you were getting in Dubya.

But then you voted him back in. Something about being scared of gay marriage. Wow, that was stupid!! Now, the US administration, hated around the world, was really a reflection of the American people.

No matter, our dollar actually moved above par before we used interest rates to correct that a bit. Still, couple that with all the stupid deregulation Republicans did with the mortgage markets, and now, my house up here is worth almost twice your Tyson's Corner houses in US Dollars!!

When I go to Washington, Phoenix, Raleigh - I find realtors seek us Canadians out, 'cause we can actually afford your properties. I was going to take the plunge this year, but hey, it looks like enough of you are actually dumb enough to do this again!! Wow, you guys really deserve what you get.

Meantime, we'll just sit up here, on the world's largest stockpile of oil, and watch as you continue to elect big oil Republicans. Eventually, our dollar will hit two, maybe three times yours?

You go with your bad selves! We'll come down and buy you once you've stopped your self-destruction. U-S-A, U-S-A, U-S-eh, U-S-eh, Can-a-deh!

The white, race-baiting, hard-right Republican Illinois Senate Majority Leader James "Pate" Philip was replaced by Emil Jones Jr., a gravel-voiced, dark-skinned African-American known for chain-smoking cigarettes on the Senate floor.

Jones had served in the Illinois Legislature for three decades. He represented a district on the Chicago South Side not far from Obama's. He became Obama's kingmaker.

Several months before Obama announced his U.S. Senate bid, Jones called his old friend Cliff Kelley, a former Chicago alderman who now hosts the city's most popular black call-in radio program.

I called Kelley last week and he recollected the private conversation as follows:

"He said, 'Cliff, I'm gonna make me a U.S. Senator.'"

"Oh, you are? Who might that be?"

"Barack Obama."

Jones appointed Obama sponsor of virtually every high-profile piece of legislation, angering many rank-and-file state legislators who had more seniority than Obama and had spent years championing the bills.

"I took all the beatings and insults and endured all the racist comments over the years from nasty Republican committee chairmen," State Senator Rickey Hendon, the original sponsor of landmark racial profiling and videotaped confession legislation yanked away by Jones and given to Obama, complained to me at the time. "Barack didn't have to endure any of it, yet, in the end, he got all the credit.

"I don't consider it bill jacking," Hendon told me. "But no one wants to carry the ball 99 yards all the way to the one-yard line, and then give it to the halfback who gets all the credit and the stats in the record book."

Nice thing about the anti-Obama material from the McCain/Palin campaign is that it is just the same recycled material that was debunked during the primaries.

Palin is a whole new world of questionable material with just enough time for it to be examined.

I suspect McCain is going to wish he could have introduced Palin about 5 days before the election.

To all the posters... Last night I forwarded this post to Fox new... This morning it had been deleted. Why?? What do they want to hide about Palin, to the public?
I did not write this; the original author is listed at the end of the post, including her email address. After reading it I felt I had to share it, as widely as possible - it's just too important not to. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ ABOUT SARAH PALIN I am a resident of Wasilla, Alaska. I have known Sarah since 1992. Everyone here knows Sarah, so it is nothing special to say we are on a first-name basis. Our children have attended the same schools. Her father was my child's favorite substitute teacher. I also am on a first name basis with her parents and mother-in-law. I attended more City Council meetings during her administration than about 99% of the residents of the city.
She is enormously popular; in every way she’s like the most popular girl in middle school. Even men who think she is a poor choice and won't vote for her can't quit smiling when talking about her because she is a "babe". It is astonishing and almost scary how well she can keep a secret. She kept her most recent pregnancy a secret from her children and parents for seven months.
She is "pro-life". She recently gave birth to a Down's syndrome baby. There is no cover-up involved, here; Trig is her baby. She is energetic and hardworking. She regularly worked out at the gym. She is savvy. She doesn't take positions; she just "puts things out there" and if they prove to be popular, then she takes credit.
Her husband works a union job on the North Slope for BP and is a champion snowmobile racer. Todd Palin’s kind of job is highly sought-after because of the schedule and high pay. He arranges his work schedule so he can fish for salmon in Bristol Bay for a month or so in summer, but by no stretch of the imagination is fishing their major source of income. Nor has her life-style ever been anything like that of native Alaskans. Sarah and her whole family are avid hunters.
She's smart. Her experience is as mayor of a city with a population of about 5,000 (at the time), and less than 2 years as governor of a state with about 670,000 residents. During her mayoral administration most of the actual work of running this small city was turned over to an administrator. She had been pushed to hire this administrator by party power-brokers after she had gotten herself into some trouble over precipitous firings which had given rise to a recall campaign. Sarah campaigned in Wasilla as a "fiscal conservative". During her 6 years as Mayor, she increased general government expenditures by over 33%. During those same 6 years the amount of taxes collected by the City increased by 38%. This was during a period of low inflation (1996-2002). She reduced progressive property taxes and increased a regressive sales tax which taxed even food. The tax cuts that she promoted benefited large corporate property owners way more than they benefited residents.
The huge increases in tax revenues during her mayoral administration weren’t enough to fund everything on her wish list though, borrowed money was needed, too. She inherited a city with zero debt, but left it with indebtedness of over $22 million. What did Mayor Palin encourage the voters to borrow money for? Was it the infrastructure that she said she supported? The sewage treatment plant that the city lacked? or a new library? No. $1m for a park. $15m-plus for construction of a multi-use sports complex which she rushed through to build on a piece of property that the City didn’t even have clear title to, that was still in litigation 7 yrs later--to the delight of the lawyers involved! The sports complex itself is a nice addition to the community but a huge money pit, not the profit-generator she claimed it would be. She also supported bonds for $5.5m for road projects that could have been done in 5-7 yrs without any borrowing. While Mayor, City Hall was extensively remodeled and her office redecorated more than once. These are small numbers, but Wasilla is a very small city. As an oil producer, the high price of oil has created a budget surplus in Alaska. Rather than invest this surplus in technology that will make us energy independent and increase efficiency, as Governor she proposed distribution of this surplus to every individual in the state.
In this time of record state revenues and budget surpluses, she recommended that the state borrow/bond for road projects, even while she proposed distribution of surplus state revenues: spend today's surplus, borrow for needs. She’s not very tolerant of divergent opinions or open to outside ideas or compromise. As Mayor, she fought ideas that weren’t generated by her or her staff. Ideas weren’t evaluated on their merits, but on the basis of who proposed them. While Sarah was Mayor of Wasilla she tried to fire our highly respected City Librarian because the Librarian refused to consider removing from the library some books that Sarah wanted removed. City residents rallied to the defense of the City Librarian and against Palin's attempt at out-and-out censorship, so Palin backed down and withdrew her termination letter. People who fought her attempt to oust the Librarian are on her enemies list to this day. Sarah complained about the "old boy’s club" when she first ran for Mayor, so what did she bring Wasilla? A new set of "old boys". Palin fired most of the experienced staff she inherited. At the City and as Governor she hired or elevated new, inexperienced, obscure people, creating a staff totally dependent on her for their jobs and eternally grateful and fiercely loyal--loyal to the point of abusing their power to further her personal agenda, as she has acknowledged happened in the case of pressuring the State’s top cop (see below). As Mayor, Sarah fired Wasilla’s Police Chief because he "intimidated" her, she told the press. As Governor, her recent firing of Alaska's top cop has the ring of familiarity about it. He served at her pleasure and she had every legal right to fire him, but it's pretty clear that an important factor in her decision to fire him was because he wouldn't fire her sister's ex-husband, a State Trooper. Under investigation for abuse of power, she has had to admit that more than 2 dozen contacts were made between her staff and family to the person that she later fired, pressuring him to fire her ex-brother-in-law. She tried to replace the man she fired with a man who she knew had been reprimanded for sexual harassment; when this caused a public furor, she withdrew her support.
She has bitten the hand of every person who extended theirs to her in help. The City Council person who personally escorted her around town introducing her to voters when she first ran for Wasilla City Council became one of her first targets when she was later elected Mayor. She abruptly fired her loyal City Administrator; even people who didn’t like the guy were stunned by this ruthlessness.
Fear of retribution has kept all of these people from saying anything publicly about her. When then-Governor Murkowski was handing out political plums, Sarah got the best, Chair of the Alaska Oil and Gas Conservation Commission: one of the few jobs not in Juneau and one of the best paid. She had no background in oil & gas issues. Within months of scoring this great job which paid $122,400/yr, she was complaining in the press about the high salary. I was told that she hated that job: the commute, the structured hours, the work. Sarah became aware that a member of this Commission (who was also the State Chair of the Republican Party) engaged in unethical behavior on the job. In a gutsy move which some undoubtedly cautioned her could be political suicide, Sarah solved all her problems in one fell swoop: got out of the job she hated and garnered gobs of media attention as the patron saint of ethics and as a gutsy fighter against the "old boys’ club" when she dramatically quit, exposing this man’s ethics violations (for which he was fined). As Mayor, she had her hand stuck out as far as anyone for pork from Senator Ted Stevens. Lately, she has castigated his pork-barrel politics and publicly humiliated him. She only opposed the "bridge to nowhere" after it became clear that it would be unwise not to.
As Governor, she gave the Legislature no direction and budget guidelines, then made a big grandstand display of line-item vetoing projects, calling them pork. Public outcry and further legislative action restored most of these projects -- which had been vetoed simply because she was not aware of their importance -- but with the unobservant she had gained a reputation as "anti-pork". She is solidly Republican: no political maverick. The State party leaders hate her because she has bit them in the back and humiliated them. Other members of the party object to her self-description as a fiscal conservative. Around Wasilla there are people who went to high school with Sarah. They call her "Sarah Barracuda" because of her unbridled ambition and predatory ruthlessness. Before she became so powerful, very ugly stories circulated around town about shenanigans she pulled to be made point guard on the high school basketball team. When Sarah's mother-in-law, a highly respected member of the community and experienced manager, ran for Mayor, Sarah refused to endorse her. As Governor, she stepped outside of the box and put together of package of legislation known as "AGIA" that forced the oil companies to march to the beat of her drum. Like most Alaskans, she favors drilling in the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge. She has questioned if the loss of sea ice is linked to global warming. She campaigned "as a private citizen" against a state initiaitive that would have either a) protected salmon streams from pollution from mines, or b) tied up in the courts all mining in the state (depending on who you listen to). She has pushed the State’s lawsuit against the Dept. of the Interior’s decision to list polar bears as threatened species. McCain is the oldest person to ever run for President; Sarah will be a heartbeat away from being President. There has to be literally millions of Americans who are more knowledgeable and experienced than she. However, there’s a lot of people who have underestimated her and are regretting it. CLAIM vs. FACT: *Hockey mom: true for a few years
*PTA mom: true years ago when her first-born was in elementary school, not since
*NRA supporter: absolutely true
*Social conservative: mixed. Opposes gay marriage, BUT vetoed a bill that would have denied benefits to employees in same-sex relationships (said she did this because it was unconsitutional).
*Pro-creationism: mixed. Supports it, BUT did nothing as Governor to promote it.
*Pro-life: mixed. Knowingly gave birth to a Down’s syndrome baby BUT declined to call a special legislative session on some pro-life legislation
*Experienced: Some high schools have more students than Wasilla has residents. Many cities have more residents than the state of Alaska. No legislative experience other than City Council. Little hands-on *Supervisory or managerial experience; needed help of a city administrator to run town of about 5,000.
*Political maverick: not at all
*Gutsy: absolutely!
*Open & transparent: ??? Good at keeping secrets. Not good at explaining actions.
has a developed philosophy of public policy: no
*A "Greenie": no. Turned Wasilla into a wasteland of big box stores and disconnected parking lots. Is pro-drilling off-shore and in ANWR.
*Fiscal conservative: not by my definition!
*Pro-infrastructure: No. Promoted a sports complex and park in a city without a sewage treatment plant or storm drainage system. Built streets to early 20th century standards.
*Pro-tax relief: Lowered taxes for businesses, increased tax burden on residents
*Pro-small government: No. Oversaw greatest expansion of city government in Wasilla’s history.
*Pro-labor/pro-union. No. Just because her husband works union doesn’t make her pro-labor. I have seen nothing to support any claim that she is pro-labor/pro-union. WHY AM I WRITING THIS? First, I have long believed in the importance of being an informed voter. I am a voter registrar. For 10 years I put on student voting programs in the schools. If you google my name (Anne Kilkenny + Alaska), you will find references to my participation in local government, education, and PTA/parent organizations. Secondly, I've always operated in the belief that "Bad things happen when good people stay silent". Few people know as much as I do because few have gone to as many City Council meetings. Third, I am just a housewife. I don't have a job she can bump me out of. I don't belong to any organization that she can hurt. But, I am no fool; she is immensely popular here, and it is likely that this will cost me somehow in the future: that’s life.
Fourth, she has hated me since back in 1996, when I was one of the 100 or so people who rallied to support the City Librarian against Sarah's attempt at censorship. Fifth, I looked around and realized that everybody else was afraid to say anything because they were somehow vulnerable. CAVEATS:
I am not a statistician. I developed the numbers for the increase in spending & taxation 2 years ago (when Palin was running for Governor) from information supplied to me by the Finance Director of the City of Wasilla, and I can't recall exactly what I adjusted for: did I adjust for inflation? for population increases? Right now, it is impossible for a private person to get any info out of City Hall--they are swamped. So I can't verify my numbers. You may have noticed that there are various numbers circulating for the population of Wasilla, ranging from my "about 5,000", up to 9,000. The day Palin’s selection was announced a city official told me that the current population is about 7,000. The official 2000 census count was 5,460. I have used about 5,000 because Palin was Mayor from 1996 to 2002, and the city was growing rapidly in the mid-90’s.

Posted by: Male C P | September 10, 2008 11:25 PM | Report abuse

Obama has spent his entire political career trying to win the next step up. Every three years, he has aspired to a more powerful political position.

He was just 35 when in 1996 he won his first bid for political office. Even many of his staunchest supporters, such as Black, still resent the strong-arm tactics Obama employed to win his seat in the Illinois Legislature.

Obama hired fellow Harvard Law alum and election law expert Thomas Johnson to challenge the nominating petitions of four other candidates, including the popular incumbent, Alice Palmer, a liberal activist who had held the seat for several years, according to an April 2007 Chicago Tribune report.

Obama found enough flaws in the petition sheets — to appear on the ballot, candidates needed 757 signatures from registered voters living within the district — to knock off all the other Democratic contenders. He won the seat unopposed.

"A close examination of Obama's first campaign clouds the image he has cultivated throughout his political career," wrote Tribune political reporters David Jackson and Ray Long. "The man now running for president on a message of giving a voice to the voiceless first entered public office not by leveling the playing field, but by clearing it."

Three years later, in September 1999, Obama was already preparing his first national campaign. He ran for U.S. Congress against veteran incumbent Bobby Rush, a former co-founder of the Illinois chapter of the Black Panther Party.

Back in 2000, after John McCain lost his mostly honorable campaign for the Republican presidential nomination, he went about apologizing to journalists--including me--for his most obvious mis-step: his support for keeping the confederate flag on the state house.

Now he is responsible for one of the sleaziest ads I've ever seen in presidential politics, so sleazy that I won't abet its spread by linking to it, but here's the McClatchy fact check.

I just can't wait for the moment when John McCain--contrite and suddenly honorable again in victory or defeat--talks about how things got a little out of control in the passion of the moment. Talk about putting lipstick on a pig.

It was not the Republican Party that CHOSE to give the nominee that was trending down
===

Two things:

1. There's no really nice way to say this, but the evidence is that on many basic factual questions about the world around us, republicans tend to have their facts wrong. For example, republicans and those who watch right-wing media tend to think Saddam Hussein were linked; they tend to believe that Saddam Hussein had WMD. They also tend to be unaware of or to hold views contradicting scientific facts such as climate change and the theory of evolution.

2. There was a series of 50 elections in 50 states for the democratic primary. The fact is, Obama won that contest, and party leaders were unwilling to override the will of the voters. The only way you can add up the numbers in Hillary's favor is to throw out the results from small states, or throw out the results from caucus states. If I had my way, there would only be primaries, and no caucuses. Still, as a resident of a small caucus state, it's offensive to say I and the state I live in (which went 2:1 for Obama) should not have a say in the process.

"Palin Says She’s a Change from The Scandal-Plagued Republicans,
But She’s More of the Same.
Palin built her reputation on criticizing state Republicans for
ethics questions, but Palin has questions of her own, as she used
city resources when she campaigned for Lt. Governor; Palin chaired
the campaign of another candidate in a race dominated by resource
issues when she was on the oil and gas commission and said that she
saw no conflict of interest. For years, Palin supported Murkowski,
campaigning for him across the state, and he supported her campaigns
as well.

Palin Touts Fiscal Conservatism, But She Increased Spending
Tremendously and Supported Tax Increases.
Palin constantly reminds us that she is a fiscal conservative.
But during her time as mayor, she increased the city’s budget at a
rate far outpacing the city’s growth with spending on large projects.
She supported sales tax increases and left the city with thousands
in per-capita debt, where none had existed when she came in. Palin
brags about eliminating the personal property tax, but with the same
legislation, the city increased motor vehicle fees that almost matched
the lost income of the personal property taxes.

Palin Is Too Socially Conservative for Libertarian Alaska.
Palin is a strong conservative—something she repeated throughout her
primary campaign but now seems to try to back off from. She is not only
pro-life but is involved with—and even steered tax money
toward—organizations that give misleading information on abortion.
She called herself a “hard-core fiscal conservative” who wanted government
to get to the bare bones. The Anchorage Daily News asked whether her
“socially conservative positions square with Alaska's generally
libertarian approach to those issues.” Palin also supported a flat tax,
an idea even Bob Dole thought was absurd.

Palin’s Management Style is to Bully and Demand Political Loyalty.
Palin’s tenure as mayor of Wasilla was marred by tremendous staff turnover,
first when she fired most of the top staff—including the city’s
librarian—because she questioned their loyalty, and then later when staff
quit because of her micromanaging style. Wasilla even lost the opportunity
to hire a police chief because he said the job seemed too political.

Palin’s Not Ready for Primetime.
Palin argues that she was the mayor of the fastest growing city in Alaska.
While that may be true, Wasilla’s population is still 1 percent of the
rest of the state of Alaska. The last budget Palin approved, $12.5 million,
is .2 percent of the $7.3 billion budget Tony Knowles approved.

Palin’s Not Tough Enough to Be A Strong Negotiator for Alaska.
As mayor, Palin fired someone because she said he intimidated her with his
size and because he gave her a “stern look.” She asked her department heads
to give her only good news and once complained because we are so desperate
in Alaska for any semblance of glamour and culture.”"

Thought he was all big and strong, like Ahnold, cause he beat Hillary. But Obama is not like Ahnold, big and strong, cause now he's afraid of Sarah.

Obama is afraid cause Sarah stole his thunda -- AND lipstick -- and will beat Obama with his own thunda while wearing his lipstick. This makes big and strong Ahnold laugh at the little girlie mahn Obama.

And Obama supporters, they also are scared little girlie mehn. They thought Obama was big and strong, like Ahnold, cause Obama beat Hillary. But Obama supporters are also afraid of Sarah, cause she stole their lipstick too.

Now there's no one like Ahnold for them, big and strong, to pump them up, so Obama supporters cry -- like little girls without lipstick!

It's very easy to see the racial element in the debate here. It's like this: anyone repeating the lie that Obama is Muslim is a racist, end of story. They hate him because he has a funny name and a dark skin. If he was white and had slavic-sounding name (there are plenty of white Muslims in the former Yugoslavia), this rumor wouldn't spread.

No, the rumor goes because people are biased against his name and skin color.

It's unfortunate that the Washington Post allows these racist and deceitful comments to be posted.

I've tested the forums on Fox News, and they effectively prevent liberals from posting. Why can't the Post prevent racists from posting?

I agree. I am surprised at the lack of critical thinkers in this country. I shouldn't be, after the Bush election and reelection. I can't help but feel that our democracy will greatly pay for our corporate inability to rationally balance issues. No single candidate is going to fix all of our problems. As long as single issue voters and public attraction to insipid bickering dominate the national debate, few of our problems will be solved.

Berg vs. Obama, Civil Action No. 08-cv-4083, in Federal Court

What is going on here! Is it true that Obama was born in Kenya Africa. Is it true that there are no records of his mother giving birth to him at any hospital in Hawaii.

What Hospital in Hawaii was Obama born at?

Who was the Doctor that delivered him?

Who was the Nurse that cared for him at his mothers delivery?

What are their names?

Is it true that his Grandmother, and half-sister have said he was in fact born in Kenya.

Is it true that Republicans have records to prove Obama was born in Kenya.

And is it true that he was registered as a citizen of Indonesia as a Muslim.

Is there any truth to any of this. Where is the major media on this story. Have they investigated this. Has any of the above been proved untrue.

If any of the above is true this is very serious.

She also, by the way, compared herself to a pittbull with lipstick.

When a woman takes on the role of politician, the role of attacking the character of others, she deserves to have the same against her.

It is despicable how some on this board and elsewhere say it is OK for Palin to spew bile and hate out of her own mouth, while crying sexism when anyone fights back.

would not stand a chance of winning the

this country. Typical example is the fact
that almost half the voters in certain
states who voted for Hillary Clinton suddenly decided to vote for John McCain when she did not get the nomination.
When I came to this country over 50 years

during that time the signs "No Jews Allowed" were everywhere - it was disgusting to see so many signs here that
that said "No Blacks allowed - White only"
Was that what tens of thousands American

Do you know what I love the most about this election and what Sarah Palin has brought to it? In reading these posts after many of the articles, I get to see just how mean, petty, nasty and irrational the heart of the Democratic party is.

Keep posting folks - the rest of the country is reading, and they are definitely getting the message about you and your candidate.

McPain teaqm have nothing to say so they deal in personalities. And they are sucking up the Old Hags.

Old Hags do not give a dam about anything except to see someone like themselves win.
Old Hags ususally are lonely and stand in front of a mirror and rant until it cracks.
Old Hags are the type that would go over Niagra Falls if they think they can one of theirs into the WH before they die.
Old Hags sometimes dream of living in a sanitarium rather than going on a global vacation of their choice.

So Old Hags get pumped on 'lipstick' and then call it racist if somebody else speaks about lipstick.
Old Hags will deny that their Old Dude used that very same term on their former hero Hillary.

Funny how the republicans forget that McCain has used the same phrase to describe Hillary's healthcare plan. If Palin were a man, would McCain call Obama's comment sexist? It has nothing to do with sexism. It's called "calling them like he sees them".

I'd like to know where all the idiots on this blog who claim Obama is a Muslim get their info. Could someone please direct me toward some proof? REAL proof? This is beyond ridiculous. It's no wonder America is the laughing stock of the world. We are a nation of sheep who are dumb enough to support people like McCain and Palin. When will you sheep wake up and see the light?

This is really starting to piss me off. America has got some really tough problems and the media has spent 2 days out of the 55 days remaining till Nov. 4th talking about damn LIPSTICK!

I hope Joe Biden and Barack Obama are really sharpening their preparedness for the upcoming debates, because whomever dominates the debates will win the election.

All this talk of Palin being a great reformer and great governor is distracting. What is her public record and positions, as well as her beliefs?

Palin, a 44-year 20 month term Alaskan Governor who attended 5 different colleges over 6 years to get a journalism degree, would be one heartbeat away from being the president of the US should McCain a 72-year old cancer survivor(melanomas on his left face, his left arm and his nose); that suffers from dizziness that was diagnosed as vertigo; suffered with blood in the urine, which was diagnosed as caused by an enlarge prostate and bladder/kidney stones; has high cholesterol; and has pain in his shoulder, hand and knee joints diagnosed as degenerative arthritis; has evidence of polyps and diverticulosis in the colon, be unable to continue his duties should he become president.

I think Mr. Obama is wasting his time (and ours) on Ms. Palin. The more you concentrate on her the easier you make it for Mr. McCain. The best ploy would be to look into the "heroic deeds" of Mr. McCain and swift-boat them. If it can be done to John Kerry why can't it be done to John McCain?
The questions to ask will be something like: Brush with death? Whose fault was it initially? Apparently the man had been reading novels when he should be reading the dos and don'ts of flying aircraft and old habits die hard. If you dig deep enough you would find enough, including voting record. To put it slightly differently the Democrats have to show that it's the pig that smells and who cares if the pig has lipstick on.

If "white women" are indeed so easily swayed by such personality comments about lipstick and vote accordingly, maybe it is indeed time to retract their right to vote.

The reason why it was retracted in New Jersey after being one of the first suffrage states was due to sequential election of several corrupt politicians.

Looks like history is repeating itself.

Its McCain and his pals who have opposed every major or minor reform that might benefit women and who have been an opponent of feminism and the women's movement. So ya Obama keep talking about how this "new" McCain is just like Bush and his policies. You can't put lipstick on a pig. Its still a pig. So, as the McCain campaign distracts the media with a "lipstick" feint to the right, we find out that Bush's Interior Department was really cozy with the oil companies they were supposedly managing. Uh huh. Really cozy. Oh, yeah. And unemployment has jumped - again. And,when Sarah said "thanks but no thanks" she pocketed the check that was supposed to pay for that bridge to nowhere. Voting for McCain/Palin may make some of you feel better - for the moment - but then you'll wake up to a failed economy, a public education system that's turned to trash, more jobs going overseas, more rich folks getting big tax breaks, more middle class people seeing their living standard heading for the floor, and people going broke because they get sick and have no insurance. Is Obama a risky proposition? Maybe. But McCain/Palin are completely predictable. McCain has told us what he's going to do - continue the tax breaks for the rich folks, leave you on your own when it comes to healthcare, continue spending $10 billion a month in Iraq, and pick another Scalia/Roberts/Alito for the Supreme Court. So, it comes down to the certainty of disaster (McCain/Palin)versus the risk of electing Obama/Biden. For me, that's a very easy decision.

Questions for Sarah Palin:

1) How do you reconcile your religious beliefs with your obligation to a population of 300,000,000 + having a diverse religious and ethnic population?

2) What are your thoughts on evolution?

3) Explain to us what it is like being a governor of a state with 640,000 residents?

4) What are the daily problems that face your administration in Alaska?

5) Is there a drug problem in Alaska? High school drop out rate? Unemployment rate? Are there drug/alcohol sponsored government funded programs? What are the pollution issues? Transportation issues? Teen pregnancy and STD rates?

6) Compare the problems you face as a governor with those of mayors with cities comparable to the population of Alaska.

7) Discuss in detail your foreign travels.

8) We understand you oppose abortion. Have you given any thought to what you would do with the 'unwanted babies'? Do you believe in government funded programs for abused children? Do you believe in government funded programs to prevent unwanted pregnancies?

9) Do you believe the present educational system in this country is effective? If so, how do you explain the decline in 'scores'? The drop-out rate? And how would you improve the system?

10) We understand you do not believe in 'special rights' for homosexuals. Is that because of religious beliefs or do you just find the idea repulsive? Would you support a federal amendment to ban gay marriage? Ban and revoke domestic partnership rights?

11) Do you believe a child is better off in an orphanage or a loving same-sex couple? If not, explain why?

12) Do you really think the government is capable of taking care of children better than two loving parents that just happen to be of the same sex?

13) What plans do you have to make adoption easier so the unwanted babies are placed into loving homes? Would that involve requiring those that oppose abortion be willing to take such a child into their homes?

14) Would you approve of government funding to help pay for the child's expenses until the age of 18 (in the form of a tax break, etc)?

15) What are your specific plans for alternative energy?

16) What are your specific plans for protecting the environment? Or do you believe the global warming theory has no validity?

17) What would push you to war with Iran, Russia or any other country? Do you believe nuclear war is inevitable?

18) What are your plans for Iraq and Afghanistan? How long do you plan to stay in Afghanistan?

19) What are your plans for reducing the national debt?

20) Do you understand the difference between the national debt and the deficit?

21) Should you have to nominate a supreme court justice, do you have anyone in mind? If not, what would the nominee's personality and beliefs need to be for you to consider them?

22) Do you believe Alaska's surplus should be shared with the rest of the nation, considering the rest of the nation has been paying higher gas prices, while Alaska has been one of the beneficiaries of those higher gas prices?

23) Do you believe that oil company profits are excessive? Do you believe that their profit margins should have remained a reasonable percent rather than the substantial increases they've seen the past 2 years which appear due to the inflated price of oil, rather than due to efficiency or creation of a new product?

24) Do you know what are the responsibilities and expectations of the Vice President of the United States?

25) What is your understanding of the purpose of the Federal Reserve Bank?

26) What is your understanding of the World Bank?

27) What do you believe is the biggest problem facing America today? How would you go about resolving that problem?

28) What do you believe is the second biggest problem facing America today? How would you go about resolving that problem?

29) In 1929, the world entered a Depression. Can you explain how that occurred, how the United States dealt with it and how did the United States emerge from it?

30) What should the American people know about you that was not presented in your speech at the RNC?

Palinism: Politics as The Content-Free Violation of Expectation

What is Palinism?

What is it about?

What policies?

What ideas?

What positions?

Even in the Lincoln-Douglas debates, while no doubt many were motivated by regional partisanship, local prejudices, and "the measure" of the candidate, one suspects that at least a rough rendering of the issues--secession vs. Union, free vs. enslaved--was carried in and animated the crowds.

Now, it is pure reaction to pattern. To one impulse expectation violated by the provocation of another impulse, that feels--good.

We have reached the content-free phase of American politics.

A form, an image--glasses, hair, a voice, what it suggests--is enough. She could be speaking the words to the airport timetable, the swearing-in speech of Ferdinand Marcos, the ingredients of a
box of Sizzlean--the firm, the image, the sound, and the gathering impulse, the bare stirring from dull lack of novelty--is sufficient to awaken the crowds to angry perturbance at...the stimulus to be perturbed, and the bare sense of actual directed action and purpose that comes with doing so.

Palin herself wears a glazed, slightly confused look in her eyes--what is it that has unleashed this roar, this approbation. Being used to herself, and having been among those who are well used to her, she is unaware of the novelty that her mere form releases in the dazed electorate, yearning for a pretext for expression. Soon, she'll believe it herself.

And, after all, isn't that what democracy is all about? The ability to choose to decide without knowledge? Better yet, to choose your knowledge, irrespective of fact, in correspondence with the liberating, confirmation-free impulse?

This is what today's moment stands for.

These are our satisfactions and securities in this golden age.

BTW hillary would eat palin alive. that chick is all talk when it comes down to it. oh and tell me if they are mavricks how come mccain voted for bush policies 90% of the time and supports a war that america doesnt want anymore AND he picks a candidate who doesnt believe in global warming when he himself says he believes it. what an out of touch team if ive ever seen one.

"Let's face the truth. Obama never intended to call Palin a pig. Nobody with a brain thinks he did. The crowd, on the otherhand heard "lipstick" and responded because of Palin's lipstick/pit-bull line" -- quote by someone below

#1 look at the clip. early on, Obama was bashing McCain, his message, Bush... NO REACTION from the crowd. He's gotta be thinking (like a comedian would) "damn, this is a tough room, how do i rile them up? Ah! I got it..)

#2 He paused for a while.. STARTED RUBBING HIS TEMPLE (like he's saying.."do i really wanna go there.. oh what the heck..")

# 3 He starterd saying "You can put LIPSTICK on a PIG....." (he PAUSED.... or as comedians say "beat", waiting for a punchline) Wild Laughter and applause started..

# 4 He finishes off after a 3-4 second beat.. "... its still a PIG". Crowd goes wild!!! Ironic that he is defending it on Letterman, thats how standup comics set up their jokes. The only thing missing was a "barump!!" from a live band

Please. It was a joke. Do i think he meant to call Palin a Pig? No. But he was clearly alluding to her with the lipstick remark. He should have just admitted to it "Sorry, it was a joke that backfired. Didnt mean to call anyone a pig". Its OK to Joke about your rivals.. (look at McCain's ad that mocks Obama being "The One") Just be a man and admit it. Dont go all innocent like a kid who got caught and is squirming from it.

At least Obama sounds honest and refreshing on Letterman.

I felt sorry for McCain on SNL. Why his campaign allows us all to see those senior moments is beyond me. And especially bad to show him to the younger audience of SNL.

Obama never called Sarah a pig.

But come to think about it, she really is kind of a pig in a Roseanne Barr way.

he's already stuck us for FISA immunity, NAFTA ain't so bad, heck it's ok to stay in Iraq now, too late to get that public campaign financing, .... oh, the list just goes on and on

So tell me...what position do you think he'll end up in on the important issues if installed in the WH? Personally, I think he'll be GWBII's second term...installed with a Democratic majority there will be no end to the damage he can do with Mr. Pro-life Reid and "Impeachments off the table" Pelosi.

safest bet...DIVIDED GOVERNMENT in the absence of a decent candidate

John

Obama wasn't nominated by democrats. He was CROWNED via caucus fraud, DNC/RBC manipulation of the process and endless passes on his inexperience and corruption. It's why he's going to lose.

Some us democrats tried to tell SDs and the DNC this...they called us racists. They called us whiners. The called us stupid.

We don't look so stupid now do we. Obama's house of cards is his illegitimate APPOINTMENT as nominee of the party. He had lost to HRC by over 600,000 votes since 3/1/08. Think about that...do you think the GOP wouldn't have ADJUSTED.

But no, somehow, a 127 UNEARNED delegate lead that didn't put him across the finish line in the the most closely contested race in the democratic party resulted in:
1) SDs and PLEDGED DELEGATES being threated, bullied and bribed into supporting the Precious
2) in FORCING HRC to suspend her campaign because they needed to stop the utter and complete collapse of Obama's charade before the convention
3) and the bullying, threats and bribery by the Obama operatives that turned the roll call vote at the convention into a joke

Edible fruit doesn't fall from poisoned trees and principled people are not going to install this Chicago thug and the unsavory people who surround him in the WH. Country before party. Obama is a dnagerous lie the MSM is intent on selling you to server THEIR MASTER's agenda.

The only thing Obama did was not go far enough with his metaphor. After 3 months of experience matters, Mc Cain then responds with Pailin. Cross out experience and substitute change. Where is Mc Cain's integrity? If experience mattered, he would have chosen someone experienced which means the whole experience thing was completely and utterly insincere. The rest of the world looks on in disbelief. She's feisty and she's pretty but has next to no experience or education for that matter. Clearly Mc Cain is putting lipstick on a pig, and proving himself insincere as well. No offense to pigs please.

Obama’s weaknesses are finally coming to light. He thought he could win the election because he is convinced he could beat President Bush. The fact is, in this day and time, he could, hands down. But Mr. Obama has built his house of cards on his ability to beat President Bush, mistakenly relating this fact to ALL Republicans. He has now realized that John McCain is a very different kind of Republican than the President. And he is finding out that most voters are independents’, not party affiliated like all his friends on the hill. So he's been trying to more or less magically will John McCain into being President Bush through the same old partisan rhetoric that both parties have used for years. John McCain is the toughest nut to crack on Capitol Hill, ask anybody who has experience there. The Obama campaign grossly underestimated the perseverance of the McCain camp, and euphorically overestimated his own popularity. This reveals a lot about the house of O. His advisors lack the creativity and intelligence to turn this excellent orator into the leader of the free world. His ideas are not really all that fresh and his message of CHANGE does not hold water as the electorate is more intelligent than it used to be in the internet age. Daily, he criticizes McCain on the one hand for doing exactly the same thing his camp is doing on the other. Frankly, he will never beat McCain at a game McCain has been in for decades, he's simply overmatched. Now America sees that Obama's dynamic message of change is not built on real innovation, but excellent salesmanship of the same old product. Funny thing is, that's exactly what he is accusing McCain of. Where is the dynamic message of change in that?

If she can't stand the heat she better get out of the kitchen.

Obama's comment, even if you take it at its worst is nothing compared to what she will face.

"Russell Brand pulled Sarah Palin electric chair jokes at VMA"

He said: "I had John McCain gags pulled. And they asked me to tone down the gags about Sarah Palin. I wanted to say she was forcing her teenage daughter to have a baby because she is so anti-abortion.

"But also, as a Republican she is pro-execution so she is going to give her the electric chair for being a little ????.

"They weren't keen on that one." "

STOLEN FROM ANOTHER BLOG but it was too perfect to pass up

Remember when Barack insisted that words matter?

He continued: “…It’s true that speeches don’t solve all problems, but what is also true is if we cannot inspire the country to believe again then it doesn’t matter how many policies and plans we have…That is why we just won eight elections straight, because the American people want to believe in change again. Don’t tell me words don’t matter!“

So, you want us to believe that the guy who says “words matter” just happened to refer to McCain/Palin as a pig with lipstick ? Right. Oh, and he also said:
