Palin Scrubbing Turns Up an Undeclared Car Wash

Updated 7:28 p.m.
By Matthew Mosk
ST. PAUL -- In addition to being a mayor and raising four children, Sarah Palin found time for another venture in her Wasilla years -- she was part-owner of an Anchorage car wash.

Palin and husband Todd each held a 20 percent stake in Anchorage Car Wash LLC, according to state corporation records filed in 2004.

A review of Palin's gubernatorial disclosure filings indicates that she failed to report her stake in the company on the form that requires candidates for governor to disclose any interest in a nonpublicly traded company.

The car wash venture was not entirely smooth sailing. State records show the business ran into trouble with Alaska's division of corporations business and professional licensing after Palin became governor of the state in 2006.

A Feb. 11, 2007 letter to the governor's business partner advises that the car wash had "not filed its biennial report and/or paid its biennial fees," which were more than a year overdue.

The warning letter was written on state letterhead, which carried Palin's name at the top, next to the state seal.

On April 3, 2007, the state went further and issued a "certificate of involuntary dissolution" because of the car wash's failure to file its report and pay state licensing fees.

Palin's gubernatorial disclosure filings also reveal her involvement in another failed startup -- a marketing business which was to go by the name Rouge Cou, which evidently is a literal French translation of "red neck." On the 2005 form, Palin describes the firm as one for which she secured a license but did not conduct any business.

Even though I decided early on to vote for Obama, I once thought it would be no tragedy if McCain won. I am now determined to go out and work as hard as I can to prevent McCain from winning.

I strongly suspected that Palin was a phony as soon as I heard her speak. All the evidence that I have seen since supports that hunch. She is the last person I would ever want as my president.

But what I am most shocked at is the readiness of Palin's conservative supporters to dismiss the evidence that she is both personally vindictive and ready to act in defiance of the law and the Constitution, and their insistence that this evidence is no different from the evidence that some among Sen. Obama's friends and associates have committed crimes or expressed hateful opinions, or that Obama used drugs as an adolescent. Most of us, even the most morally upright among us, have relatives or friends whose behavior or opinions are objectionable and/or once did something stupid as an adolescent. What ought to be of far greater concern is THE BEHAVIOR OF CANDIDATES THEMSELVES IN ADULTHOOD; ESPECIALLY THEIR BEHAVIOR AS ELECTED OFFICIALS. It is Sarah Palin's OWN behavior that is horrifying. She is a liar. As an elected official she has mismanaged money and run up debts. She has failed to comply with the law. She has abused power. Every self-respecting Republican ought to denounce and repudiate her.

I guess "executive experience" means owning only %20 of a company that goes out-of-business. Republicans should just call themselves the LIARS party. Palin: Pitbull? More like a poodle who needs protecting apparently.

ST. PAUL --

Thanks. Interesting. It appears that Palin and her husband invested in one company (the car wash) and considered starting another (the marketing business) but never did anything with the marketing business.

Regarding the car wash business… The letter was from the Governors office and addressed to Carolyn L Wells. Ms. Wells was probably the principal owner of the company. Looks like Palin and her husband invested in a venture in which the principal owner dissolved prior to 2006 and the State was not aware of the dissolution

My guess (and it is a guess since we do not have all the information, but it is clear that the author of the article is clearly trying to portray Palin as a failure as a “business women”) is that the car wash business had dissolved before 2006 and nothing was due based on two items. #1: Palin not disclosing her stake in the company on the form that requires candidates for governor to disclose any interest in a nonpublicly traded company when she was running for governor AND #2: after the state went further and issued a "certificate of involuntary dissolution" on April 3, 2007 because of the car wash's failure to file its report and pay state licensing fees." The letter stated the State would dissolve the business if the business did not complete the report or pay the license fee. Does not mean that Ms Wells did not want this action. When my husband and I disolved a business we notified the county and the state immediately however the city tried to continue collecting monthly sales tax and a year later the state was still sending us statements for the annual license fees and late fee statements even after we notified both the state and city several times!

This may just have been the state of Alaska's way of cleaning up NON ACTIVE businesses? The notice was sent Feb of 07, could have also been a massive clean up (ordered by Palin herself based on what I learned she did after entering office) to collect license fees and state sales tax from companies that had not been reporting and to DISSOLVE those that were INACTIVE.

Regarding the marketing business for which Palin registered but dissolved after never using. I would not consider it a “failed start up” as the article states, just because she secured a license but did not conduct any business with it. I've done the same. Ordered a license, a name and a tax ID for a LLC to use and never used it. My attorney just dissolved it. No biggie. This is exactly what Palin did.

BE CAREFUL WHAT YOU READ...Thanks for sharing and giving me an opportunity to research the article.

NO RECORD OF PALIN 'SON' TRIG BORN ON THE DATE CLAIMED ... THIS IS BRISTOL 2ND PREGNANCY NOT THE 1ST!!!
http://www.mediatakeout.com/2008/26353-more_palin_drama_no_record_of_palin_son_trig_born_on_the_date_claimed__daughter_supposedly_got_pregnant_while_she_had_mono__attempts_to_force_daughter_to_get_married.html

People's children are off limits? This is not about her daughter bristol, no one is attacking her daughter... this is about another GOP corrupt politician who wants to be vice-president or president.
We don't need it... not another 4 or 8 years of lying corrupt president and vice-president.... we had enough of bush and cheney...
"NICE guys finish last!!!".. this is about palin lies and misconduct.

Gov. Palin needs to take a DNA or blood test to prove that baby trig is hers... all the evidence is supporting that the baby belongs to Bristol, her daughter.
I saw pictures and VIDEO of gov. palin when she CLAIMED to be 7 and 8 months pregnant, AND SHE DIDn't look 7 or 8 months preganant to me... I have six children by two different women so I know what a 7 and 8 month pregnant woman looks like. Palin was not pregnant with trig, bristol was.
Bristol is now pregnant a second time or her 2nd pregnancy is a hoax to force her to marry her boyfriend to cover up for gov palin scandal...... faux-lame and biased news channel and other media outlets who support the GOP are trying to cover-up the scandal... and the oabama campaign is too scared to touch the issue cause they are just scared of being called a sexist for busting palin's chops.
NEWS FLASH: A rumor is not a rumor when evidence to support the claim exist... OVERWHELMING EVIDENCE!!!!

FACTS:
1. Palin got on a airplane journey for 8 hours after she started labor?? wtf, BULL---S---T!!
1. After arriving in Alaska, she Then drove for 45 minutes to a far away hostpital not near her home/city.
2. The flight attendants said palin showed no-visible signs of her being in labor or that she was pregnant!!!
3. Bristol her daughter was the one who was showing signs of being pregnant in photos and at school.
4. Palin took her daughter out of school when she was 16 and claimed she had mono for 5 months. Baby trig was born while bristol was out of school.
5. Classmates at bristol school said bristol was pregnant at 16 and they saw her at school with visible signs.
6. palin husband was heard talking to an co-employee and told an employee at work his daughter was pregnant.
7. The baby's name is trig, which stands for Trigonometry, which is a math class that all teenagers take after geometry in high scool.
8. Palin is already under investigation for several other cover-ups and scandals.
9. The doctor that may be involved in this baby-gate scandal could be in for a real big medical malpractice scandal.
10. Palins state and town is very small and everyone knows everyone.... and nobody knew palin was 8 months pregnant.... not 1 visible sign at 8 months pregnant??
11. Everytime palin went on camera or photos she did not look pregnant, or she hid her stomache.
12. Recently palin announces her daughter is pregnant to try and make the problem go away, but it won't because we are not as stupid and the GOP thinks.
13. Palin tried to force her daughter to get married quietly before anyone found out bristol was pregnant. Bristol did not want to go along with it.
14. no such birth record exist of governer palin birth at the hospital she claimed to have given birth.
Show me a birth certificate that shows gov. palin and her husband as the father and mother of this baby trig, and i'll show you a federal investigation right after... because that would mean that gov. palin abused her power once again with the hospital and doctor to do her a favor in saying the baby belongs to gov. palin which is a lie.
Do your own research before you judge this scandal. Below are a few links to review and make your own decision.
My question is: Who is the real baby's father? Palin husband? her math teacher? her boyfriend? or someone else? We the people need to find out and get to the bottom of this scandal...

Gov. Palin down syndrome baby "Trig" may not be her's.. It is highly possible the baby came from her 16yr old daughter "bristol"...

I own a small business (31 years) and network w/other small business owners. There have been numerous comments about not filing your annual corportate reports being no big deal and that's how corporations "normally" do it when they want to disolove their business.
That simply is NOT TRUE. RESPONSIBLE business owners know that if you don't file corp reports/fees you loose your corp shield/status w/the State. In my experience only bad or scumbag business people not to file. Also, when you disolve a corp there are legal steps you have to follow - you don't simply not file. But I guess maybe those rules, and good business sense, only apply to us hardworking, honest democrate business owners. I keep forgetting the Repubs don't have to follow the rules or laws.

Some of you people make me laugh. First, you obviously don't know a thing about the care of a special needs person, the skills and confidence it takes to maintain a household and run a state.
Second, if the people of Alaska have any sense, they will vote for McCain-Palin, if for no other reason than to simply keep out of office the elitist, Alaska- bashing, woman-hating hypocrites who are representing poor Mr.Obama.

Let any of you who are without sin cast the first stone! Oh, but wait, the Democrats don't believe in sin. Ok. You win.

I doubt he gives her the boot (you do realize she is being officially nominated, and will accept said nomination, today?). Why is it that MALE Governors who were talked about as possible running mates -- with even less time in office than Palin -- weren't summarily dismissed as "inexperienced"? She is never gonna live it down when mom is shot down for office from daughters example . Will Sarah Palin banish her too in the aftermath ? She is just another political self interest maggot greedy for easy power . Mcbush would have had the same effect picking Paris Hilton who has as much intelligence and less DUI offences as Palin . Let's see:

Her experience in political office is less than that of Barack Obama, whom the GOP chastises as too inexperienced.

It includes being mayor of a small town. If you want a Republican with experience s a mayor, then look for Dick Lugar, who was mayor of ... Indianapolis!

She thinks that kids should be taught creationist claptrap in public schools. That ought to offend every public school teacher in America -- and there are lots of them.

She was a member of a state secessionist party. Suspect!

She is completely opposed to reproductive rights.

Her State GOP is replete with scandals.

She flip-flopped on the infamous Bridge to Nowhere.

She is the running mate of someone 72 years old, who has had cancer, and has health problems from spending five years in captivity that will likely cost him some of his lifespan.

She has no law degree (only a banal BA) and has no experience as a military officer, She has no legislative experience.

4. She was a member of the Alaska Independence group, who voted twice to try to secede from the union (remember -- Republicans are the only patriotic Americans, right!?!). Yeah, sure! She dosn't even want to be part of the U.S.

5. Her longtime former pastor is a nutjob. Preached about how voting for Kerry (in '04) would get you in hell.

6. You forgot that pesky little abuse-of-power investigation currently underway in Alaska!

7. She was a strong supporter of the 'bridge to nowhere', although now that it's no longer politically expedient, she is against it.

8. Her own mother-in-law won't be voting for her -- what's up with THAT?

Pallin does not believe in government. That's why the company didn't file its paperwork. She supports the Alaska Independence Party that wishes to cede from the nation, take the nation's oil resources, join up with Hugo Chavez and hold America ransom for energy. Already Alaska gives oil revenue as a hand-out to people who live in Alaska- where's your share? Aren't you an American? Isn't some of that revenue yours? No, it's Alaska first and the rest of the nation can fend for itself. She is the Manchurian Candidate who will make this happen- The Nation of Alaska- just watch!

Sounds like a good time to perform an audit of those business. Businesses that aren't disclosed on public records? Sounds like a pretty standard money-laundering conduit for an Alaska Republican.

The comment below is true. The real truth is that Trig is not Sarah Palin's son. She is covering for her daughter. It might be considered caring if she hadn't dragged her daughter through the mud, engaged in a sick cover up, and she is lying to the American public.

Palin and McCain -STOP THE LYING!!

Do you really think you can cover this up? There are people in Alaska who know this truth and it will all come out-it will be a bigger embarrassment then. What kind of mother does this to her daughter. Some kind of protection! Palin did this for political reasons.

Trig is Bristol's son. The McCain camp has taken everyone away from this truthful story, which is what they do best.

Posted by: Alaska knows | September 2, 2008 10:07 PM | Report abuse

The Republicans have a set of tactics they use when anyone disagrees with them.
They yell about the "liberal media" and blame them.
They call people names-like lefties and sexist.
They ridicule Obama or Biden.
They NEVER admit they made a mistake.
They support their own no matter what even if it is wrong.
Did I say they never admit when they made a mistake or are wrong? If this was true, Palin would be history. She is a very bad choice for VP.

It is quite sad. Sarah Palin needs to step down at the request of McCain. Appointing her is NOT putting country first. I am not a liberal leftie or a sexist and I am not part of the liberal media. I am a typical American calling you on your far right wing bs. EIGHT YEARS IS ENOUGH.

Posted by: nora arizona | September 2, 2008 10:04 PM | Report abuse

I really can't believe that everyone is being suckered again. Just like the war, because they said so and so, everyone just accepted it at face value.

Please revisit how this all began (re: Trig). There is a smoking gun just waiting for the first person to talk to a few high schoolers and a few folks that work with Gov. Palin.

Gov. Palin's daughter is NOT pregnant NOW, she has already had the baby. The original reports on the blogs were true, true, true.

Women who have had children will see the huge holes in their story, if they just think about the points one at a time:

1. The daughter was withdrawn from Anchorage High School for 5-8 months. That is a long time for a case of mono.

2. Not even Gov. Palin's staff knew that she was pregnant until less than 1 month before she supposedly delivered….then she suddenly delivers prematurely but returns to work 3 days after the baby is born (now that would keep her from pretending too long, eh?).

3. Why did she hide her pregnancy, if she had already decided to keep the baby, who she knew "early on" was going to be Down's syndrome?

4. Did she make all of her own doctor's appts? I doubt it. Her assistant surely would have helped, especially when there are extenuating circumstances with the pregnancy. There would have been extra appts for her to keep.

5. Where are all of the photos of her during her pregnancy?

6. What woman who knows that she is having a challenged pregnancy would get on an airplane to give a talk in Dallas, TX AFTER her water has broken...especially without telling the captain or crew of her circumstances. The more children you have, the shorter your labor period usually is. So this baby could have come at any time after the water broke. Her excuse is that she wasn’t showing much, so the crew might not have known she was in labor.

The crime in all of this is not that her daughter had a baby or a Down's syndrome baby...it is that her parents came up with this convoluted story, which only shows that there is severe lack of judgment and character here. Now this huge lie has been spread all across the world, and the daughter has to carry out the lie too. That is why she looks so very sad!!

Mark my words....the daughter's will never give birth to a live baby....because she has already had it. There will be some tragic miscarriage, etc.

This needs to be investigated just a little more. Don't fall for the lie!!

Let me add to your list of "what we have (so far) on Palin...

I'm soooooo sure this crap will be spewing from the woodwork in the coming weeks!

Thats why I said Irrespective of her views.
Her views on abortion or anything else have been mentioned but as a side note to areas that republicans have attacked democrats on in the past - like a record that isn't entirely consistent, family matters and a relatively short time in office.

My opinion is that the republicans would have attacked her pretty viciously and directly using the main candidates.

Obama and Joe Biden haven't done that yet.

Poor little GOP politically correctness enforcers. It's just not fair to tell the truth about their candidates!

But remember, conservatives have a standard formula to respond to this:

(1) First blame the "lefty media," for the facts of the story, so as to establish that anything negative must be the work of liberals.

(2) Then falsely claim hypocrisy: "why liberals do this stuff all the time". This to avoid the underlying facts alluded to by such stories, i.e.,(A) REPUBLICAN IDEOLOGY DOES NOT WORK IN PRACTICE (abstinence only education and restricting birth control leads to higher teen preganancy rates), and (B) those who attempt to dictate their morality to others often can't enforce that morality on themselves or their families (i.e. conservatism is a form of hypocrisy).

Obama and Biden haven't said anything bad about Sarah Palin, and they won't.

Why should they? The media is tearing her, and McCain, apart without them having to lift a finger.

And if you say this reveals a partisan bias: Baloney! If Obama had picked a radical left-wing one-term governor with no other relevant experience, who belonged to a secessionist party 15 years ago, used his political power in petty ways, claimed to be a reformer but supported corrupt politicians (Stephens' 527), etc., don't you think the media would TEAR into him? Of course they would.

It has nothing to do with party bias, or gender bias. Palin is a total unknown on the national stage, so of course the media's going digging. If McCain had spent more time looking at her background, he could have avoided this whole situation.

Poor judgment on the part of John S. McCain III.

2) SHE USED HER GOVERNOR TITLE TO FIRE THE POLICE COMMISSIONER BECAUSE HE WOULDN'T FIRE HER SISTERS EX HUSBAND, A STATE TROOPER.

3) SHE SLASHED FUNDING FOR A PREGNANT TEEN PROGRAM

4) SHE WAS ONE OF THE EARLY PLANNERS OF THE "BRIDGE TO NOWHERE" A 500 **MILLION** DOLLAR BOONDOGGLE EARMARK

5) SHE PROMOTES FAMILY VALUES BUT HAS AN UNMARRIED 17 YEAR OLS DAUGHTER 5 MONTHS PREGNANT

6) HER OWN PREGNANCY HAD HER WATER BREAK, SHE MADE A SPEECH, AND THEN FLEW 12 HOURS HOME AND HAD HER DELIVER

7) HER HUSBAND HAS A DUI THAT THEY JUST DISCLOSED

8) SHE HAS A 6 MONTH OLD BABY WHO HAS DOWNS SYNDROME THAT SHE WILL ESSENTIALLY TURN OVER TO SOMEONE ELSE TO RAISE ONCE SHE IS ON THE CAMPAIGN TRAIL

well.. that is just off the top of my head. there will be more.. MANY more instances of her bad judgments..

but the real reason she shouldn't be elected? she doesn't have ANY EXPERIENCE DOING ANYTHING.. a 1 1/2 year term as a governor of a little state? BFD! several years as mayor of a town with 7,000 people????

what's she going to do if north korea invades south korea??? she'll probably go lock herself in the bathroom and start crying...

What Mrs Palin is in need of is spiritual counseling about the responsibilities she has already undertaken, not the addition of more. Mrs Palin's decision to keep her child with Down's Syndrome seems more like a political decision than a moral one. ps: just because she owned a stake in the car wash, does not mean that she managed it...i own stock in several companies -- and so do you, if your retirement is invested in mutual funds -- but as an investor, you are usually not a manager. you dont run the company and are not responsible for filing state documents. this is LAUGHABLE. try harder wapo. good grief. i am a progressive, and i think this is STUPID.

Not counting all the ways in which Mrs, Palin is not qualified to be a Heartbeat away from the presidency; I find it insulting and degrading that he felt that he could fool women by nominating Mrs. Palin. I feel this shows his disrespect for women's intelligence and ability to discern when someone tries to put us on an even lower step of evolution. Would many of us democrat or republican really consider our towns' mayor that qualified to run our state let alone be VP of the USA. Keep in mind that the majority of us live in towns with populations, budgets and problems that are at a minimum 10x the size of Wasilla. Managers at small to mid size companies handle more personnel than she has. She is an anomaly created by the perfect storm of strange AK politics. Do the research she is not what she seems. She does not even jibe with McCain many issues.
Mcain does not even believe it, listen to the well founded mainstream stories about this selection process. Do we need a guy that makes 11th hour decisions just because he is POd that his handlers said "noway" to his true choices. Im sure he took more time and consideration when choosing his suit on friday.

Other than holding 20% stake each, what were the Palin's official responsiblities to the LLC?

Did they report any loses or profits on their income taxes (LLCs issue a K-1 to all stock holders informing them the ammount of income or loss that they must claim on their personnal income tax returns). If they held no offical title other than stock holder, it is not their fault the LLV got into problems with the state. Who ever the President or Secretary of the LLC is suppose to file the paper work.

Palin is a very poor pick for VP. What was McCain thinking? After the initial "joyous" hosannas, it's been downhill ever since. Palin's family life is a mess, aggravated by the fact that she advocates Abstinence Only and has refused to fund sex education and contrception. Palin's policy is backfiring on her. Another reason why religion should not dictate public policy. Electing McCain - Palin is a regression to the 19th century for America. Out of 300 million, wasn't there anyone better than these two? Republicans are so much in the grip of the evil Evangelicals it is not funny anymore. No to McCain-Palin (the combination sounds horrible already)

The Republican Car Wash is working 24/7 to assure us that teen pregnancy is an American problem and that, even though abstaining from sex is the answer, contraception is bad, and abortion is evil, we can see how a faith-based family deals with the issues. But only verbally, the terrible toll on children such as Bristol Palin who will have trouble getting an education and the hundreds of thousands of others each year who cannot rely on family money to pull them through, well this is left out. If the US took a cue from Scandanavian countries and provided support for young mothers and children, money, medical care, food, etc., then those who seek abortions because of the looming financial disaster and the absence of day-care, assuming young mothers might want to work or go to school--would have an alternative.

The other and more important part of the scrubing has to do with the abuse of power, forcing a high-ranking official out of office because he would not fire Ms. Palin's former brother in law from the state police alledgedly to help her sister in a custody proceeding. Hard to get custody, when a parent is unemployed. How does this translated into what a citizen might expect, were Vice President Palin were to be come President?

Ms. Palin's carwash has folded. The Republican Car Wash is working overtime, trying to scrub this new model down for the sparklights at the Twin Cities and beyond. Ah, well, good luck Bristol and good luck to the country.

I think Sarah Palin would have to murder someone on live national TV for right wing fanatics to take an honest look at her.

EVEN THEN they could probably come up with some spin like: Well look, she killed so efficiently, she showed grit and decisiveness, she did it masterfully without any prior experience, she has more experience killing than Obama will ever have, her hair looked good while she killed, everyday Americans can relate to that kind of rage (and moreover, murder is a private matter), the victim must have been an abortionist and deserved it, she kills AND she's a hockey-mom, she can kill better than any man...or better yet, it's all liberal lies, we didn't see her kill anybody. Oh that pesky liberal media going after a Republican for murder again.

Oh well Sarah...walk into that carwash and cry "Out damn spot, out I say!"

Here is the equation that Dr. Shurtliff and John McCain are working on and are so pompous and confident about.

25% of Americans will never vote for a black person to high office .... this is a national truth not a state poll.

Most of that 25% say 18% are part of the Republican Base ... and other fringe elements.

Another 10% of the religious right refuse to believe that black or peoples of other color are equal to caucasians ... and they have and/or will find the doctrine to prove it.

Add that to the base of regular folk in the Republican Party and Barack O'Bama will have to maintain a lead in the double digits up to the last day of the election cycle to ensure even a close race.

Some people will rather suffer through 4 more years of failed policy and hurt and devisiveness than to see change and especially a black man in the White House. Folks (maybe I should speak like John) "My friends" that is why huge conventions and large crowds of adoring supporters do not matter ... John knows he will win ... even with a less than vetted appointee.

The polls don;t lie .... and they are in favor of the old white guy!!

I'm with Nancy 100 percent on this one. There are, indeed, scads of brilliant, educated women out there with more foreign policy expertise in their little fingernails than Sarah Whats-Her-Name could ever hope to absorb in three lifetimes.

What was McCain thinking? Or was he thinking at all? Maybe he was just lashing out in reaction to all the pressure he came under to pick someone competent.

The kind of thick-headed, rebellious defiance he showed in picking the woman from Alaska goes hand in hand with the recent WaPo profile that shows McCain to be belligerent, surly and combative as far back as prep school.

But this isn't prep school, boys and girls. This is showtime -- the vice presidency of the United States of America -- and McCain's judgment here is a breathtaking embarrassment.

I'm SURE Senator Obama is aware of this site. Why hasn't he condemned this type of campaigning? Could it be that he is pleased that Mr. Perez Hilton is endorsing him due to the traffic on this disgusting site?

Me thinks, yes!

Hey....at least Dubya and Ms. Palin have one thing in common. They both ran businesses to the ground.

In hindsight, you can clearly see how they were trying to hide Bristol's pregnancy since she was announced as VP candidate.

Every picture you see of her from then till now she is holding her baby brother close to her chest with a large blanket over her midsection..hiding any evidence of pregnancy.

If this never got out on the internet, you would never see her daughter publicly again. They were trying to hide it so it did not cause controversy. If McCain knew this during the vetting process, then why try to hide this from the public?

It just goes to show that Palin wants nothing more than to push her own political agenda and is willing to do anything, including sell out her own family to do so.

I wonder how much tabloids are offering the baby's father to tell his side of things...

I'll be looking forward to that story.

Posted by: Schreck | September 2, 2008 5:21 PM

No, are you kidding? What about the possibility of running the US economy. Your kind of thinking is why we are in trouble after eight years. We don't need to be dimmisive of everything. It could lead to another downturn or perhaps war.

Another fine example of her wealth of executive experience. Well, if she doesn't become VP she can always go run the family car wash...oh wait, she tried that and failed!

mcain/palin will win by a hair. the repubs will say-see the pumas voted for palin.- no one will check to see how many votes were flipped. and the beat goes on.

That's not "running into trouble" with a regulatory body -- that's something that routinely happens when a business quietly goes out of business or never gets underway after being incorporated. You stop filing the annual corporation form and paying the annual fee that goes with it, and the state eventually suspends and then terminates the corporation.

Posted by: John Crouch | September 2, 2008 5:31 PM | Report abuse

Taxes are for whiners.
I'm John McCain. Cindy and I forgot that we had a million-dollar beachside condo in San Diego and didn't pay property taxes on it for four years. I'm proud to introduce my running mate Sarah Palin, she too failed to pay state taxes on her car wash while she was Governor of Alaska and the business was de-registered.

By the way, she's a true hunting, fishing American patriot who has always put Country First. It don't matter that she once belonged to a party that wanted Alaska to secede from the United States. It's founding credo is "I'm an Alaskan, not an American. I've got no use for America or her damned institutions."

Country First my white a**!

Forget the business about people having kids; lots of families have such situations. But when you talk about the world of management, "executive positions", et al, you must define your terms. How many mayors are there? Are they identical, and if so what skills do they possess? Does it mean they understand management, or what is not legal, for instance, for a mayor or board member or governor to do? How would they know that it is NOT ok to try to manipulate personnel merely because of one's position of authority? Or flail away trying to do this and that, and in the process upset the very activity that you may be convinced needs fixing?
So, what's on YOUR resume, Governor, and how did it get there? Is your Wikipedia page clean, or merely airbrushed, as it appears it was just one day before your naming as a VP pick? Was your prior position appointed or elected; appointments are a dime a dozen as we know, and one can look good but do very little. And what, dear friends, can you say about pressuring others by using your aides to make other people offers they can't refuse? Anyone who has ever been in government who listens to this phone call by Frank Baily, aide to the Governor, sees and hears it for what it is - pressure on underlings to do what the governor wants done. Plain and simple. Look at the YouTube replays of the various phone calls, comments and backstopping.
You can't even call it embarrassing, as I'm sure the governor thought it was what she could do as governor, only she can't. Why? It's not legal to break the law!

Unsurprised

"No Surprises From Palin, McCain Team Says"-Washington Post

Senior McCain officials described themselves as "unsurprised" today as huge storms of locusts flew from Wasilla, Alaska and descended upon McCain campaign headquarters. "Locusts were vetted. Locusts were vetted in the vet" said one campaign official, who spoke without attribution out of concern that he would be devoured by a verminous flying cloud. The campaign also said that they were nonplussed by reports that the rivers were running black with ashes, that family pets were begin to speak in human voices, declaiming "Release Sarah!", and that a huge spreading stain was beginning to blot out the Northern sun. "Vetted", said the campaign.

"There are exciting new studies that show that locusts can be used as a source of biodegradable fuel" said Newt Gingrich, as he hunkered down to avoid the black marble obelisks falling from the sky around him. "Palin, if she can be said to have played a role in bringing about these new biofuel resources, should be praised for her innovative role in the solution to our future energy demands".

"These events firmly demonstrate Palin's deep connection to traditional modes of traditional expression, in traditional forms, traditionally." said William Kristol, editor of the Weekly Standard. "Experience, in the face of these more traditional events, is overrated..." continued Kristol, before ending the interview to wrap himself head-to-toe in mosquito netting and swallowing a bitter tasting anti-malarial drug, the taste of which, as his lips contorted, he noted to be "surprisingly refreshing."

Palin's schedule in the upcoming days of the Republican National Convention has been cut short due to, as one McCain communications aide reported, a desire not to "let the magic out of the bottle too quickly." "Sarah is a precious resource, who each moment brings a new vitality and energy to every worker on the campaign" said the aide, while fighting to remove the nest of serpents which had suddenly materialized on the floor beneath him, and were now slowly ascending his legs. "Do these bite, or just slink?" asked the aide, who spoke on conditions of anonymity so as not to provoke or otherwise alienate the reptiles.

Meanwhile, as the heavens darkened, the seas began to boil, and a deep voice tore through the clouds shouting, in stentorian tones to one and all: "It was a Mistake!", campaign offices described themselves as "unperturbed". "Serpents materializing, house pets suddenly called to vocal advocacy, Celestial callings to revise and repent...Vetted" said the spokesman, speaking on condition of anonymity as he was turning into a pillar of salt. "Everything that was vetted was vetted in the vet."

Obama does not want to touch Bristol nor do I. Things like that happen to fit parents. Her decision to run for VP when she has a special needs child and her husband has not taken her place at home is irresponsible. Obama has not commented about her special needs child. Obama may not wish to characterize her as unfit but I, unlike you, have a moral compass and will. Someone has to deviate pretty far before I'll call them on it.

Your use of Obama as the criteria for her fitness is nonsense. You always use obtuse reasoning because a more straight forward approach will arrive at something close to reality.

A well-planned offensive by the DNC and their media friends. Certainly all this planned in advance, with a 3 day holiday where they can spin all they like. That and Gustav have also kept the Republican convention out of the news. Obama campaign and their media lackeys have done a good job of keeping eyeballs focused on sensationalist headlines such Palin's daughter's pregancy and the fact Palin once did not have her fishing license with her while fishing.

And all the pets on the left start barking right on cue....

Now, the truth is starting to come out about the reckless, cavalier, and dangerous decision made by McSame to place Sarah (knock 'em up) Palin on the ticket. If this is the type of decision making to be expected of McSame in the White House, then he is a very dangerous man indeed to even be considered for the presidency. Hopefully, the American people (this doesn't include mentally deranged social conservatives) will wake up and smell the coffee before it's too late. Obama/Biden 08!!!

The next commander in chief could go to running a 2007 defunct car wash to the 2009 white house. I can hear the excuses now. It happened on her birthday. She was out celebrating. She's learn so much since than.

If McCain was so desperate for a woman VP, as a woman voter of Hillary's demographic, I would so much rather vote for MRS. Romney than for Sarah Palin. Mrs. Romney is highly educated, pays attention to Iraq, knows what a VP does, and probably could handle a country in recession too.

Same goes for MRS. Huckabee--a brilliant woman and campaigner, as is MRS. Lieberman and probably MRS. Pawlenty, MRS. Jindal as well. Too, I can't imagine how dissed Kay Bailey Hutchison, Olympia Snowe, Elizabeth Dole, and Jodi Rell must be feeling right now.

Never have I felt sorry for Mitt Romney but I do today. He was used, the entire Romney family was used by McCain, as were Jindal, Pawlenty, Huckabee, and even Lieberman. Lieberman seems to have gotten over it because he gets to be on TV today. Mitt has every reason to make McC grovel when he asks him to be his running mate in a week to ten days.

Conservatives just can't be bothered to pay taxes. They're far too important. Remember what the great conservative once said: Only little people pay taxes.

This goes right along with McCain not paying property taxes on a residence in California --or did the staff screw up. One more evidence of incompetency of the ticket. I guess it's just another example of it all coming out in the wash.

Posted by: JakeD | September 2, 2008 5:11 PM | Report abuse

Sara Palin is a small town, small state opportunistic politico. Alaska, being the closet State to the former Soviet Union, hardly makes this Governor an authority on National Security or even executive matters. The so called rebel John McCain has rebelled himself into a deep hole. Good judgment is in short supply; McCain's mythology is not being supported by his own performance.

Posted by: Lou R | September 2, 2008 5:10 PM | Report abuse

Oh HELL NO! Palin can't even run a business.

Palin is no Hillary Clinton and definitely no Mitt Romney.

Where is Mitt Romney? Romney was one of McCain's chief surrogates, but ever since Palin was announced as VP, Romney has gone into hiding.

A derelict mother and a possible ethics violator. An incompetent business woman, but she is right on abortion. She could be a murderer as long as it was an abortion doctor and JakeD would vote for her. He lacks ethics himself so do not use him as the standard for anything except what the unscrupulous would do.

This was an irresponsible nomination which must be undone immediately. This woman would be John McCain's Spiro Agnew. McCain needs to do the right thing and choose Mr. Lieberman.
