Palin Weighed Down by Baggage

By Anne E. Kornblut
She may have traveled to Dulles International Airport in style -- with much of I-66 and the Dulles Toll Road closed to traffic to accommodate the vice presidential motorcade -- but Gov. Sarah Palin's departure for Alaska has been delayed by an excessive amount of baggage.

That's actual, not metaphorical, baggage.

"We're overweight. We're not taking off until we lose 10 bags," Cecil Wallace, a press advance lead on the trip, announced. He and other logistics organizers pleaded with network camera crews to leave some of their gear behind because the cargo hold was too overloaded and the plane too heavy to make the entire trip.

Once the luggage situation is resolved, Palin will, for the first time, be taking off for a lengthy solo trip as the Republican vice presidential nominee, heading to Alaska for her first substantive interview and for her first campaign appearances without Sen. John McCain.

Interest is such that her E-190 jet is completely full for the 10-hour journey.

In addition to the networks, the campaign has in tow an "Entertainment Tonight" contingent.
It is unclear whether the "Straight Talk II" will be on the record or not. On a previous flight, Palin advisers tried to impose an off the record policy for the governor, who so far in the campaign has only responded to questions from People magazine.

With reporters in the center rows of the jet and Secret Service agents spread throughout, Palin has a solid group of advisers surrounding her up front: senior McCain honcho Steve Schmidt is on board, as are power couple Nicolle Wallace and Mark Wallace (the latter is helping Palin with debate preparation). Tracey Schmitt, formerly of the Republican National Committee, is traveling north as well.

Gepetto McCain has made a wooden decoy called Pinocchio S. Palin to deceive the voters and the Press AWAY from the issues that matter us in this terrible situation to which Bush has led the nation into.
-We are laughing stock of international observers. Which world leader would trust them were they to really become elected and represent us? Palin is deluded and in serious need of help, if not of restraint, for she IS capable of causing damage, due to her obsessions, as she did to the chief of troopers as soon as she became governor.
-If she really "knows' which tasks are "of God" and which are not, then she should be running even for Higher Office, as a minimum, Pope.

Yes, well, we can fully see the appeal of Palin to the Walmart crowd. McCain on the other hand would be better than Bush is now. I just wish it was the McCain of 2000 running instead of the old man of today that kowtows to the Bush machinery.

As I have a brain (and even use it), Obama is the only sound choice.

Why are people automatically giving McCain states like NC?? We have gotten over 300K people registered in NC. Bush only beat Kerry by 400K votes in 2004, and add in the fact that Obama is much more popular than Kerry was I anticipate a EXTREMELY tight race.

The Post is definitely elevating its standards. And in the process, forgetting that it's Liberal God of All Time, Battlefield Bill Clinton's luggage included fully one-third of the entire U.S. Air Force when he traveled.

Sara Palin is a cyborg assembled at the Anodyne VII plant in the ruins of Flint Michigan, circa 2235 AD. Her purpose is to take over the most powerful nation of the early 21st century and use that power to destroy mankind.
John McCain has been dead since 2006, his corpse gives the impression of life through the clever use of electrodes inserted in the corpses anus, a procedure pioneered by Dick Cheny just prior to the Abu Graib prison scandal. (Little known fact, the guy standing on the box with the electrodes and the hood? Scooter Libby. No kidding, that aint Iraq, that's the basement of Chenys secret underground lair more commonly known as the famous "undisclosed location.")
In short, you can trust these people. Thier god fearing Republicans.

There is a reason that Obama supporters believe in him....it is called rational thinking. Give it a try, it doesn't hurt, and it may open your eyes blinded by the religious right righteous self proclamations even as they support the lies, deceptions, false acclamation, distortions, etc.

He didn't debate what, 10 times or so with the other Dems in the primary ? He hasn't had his life examined with a microscope since he announced in January of 2007 ? He hasn't answered thousands of questions ?

And Obama won the hard fought nomination of his party.

Palin was picked by a 72 year old DC retread, who has a reputation for being attracted to younger women. And in stark contrast, Palin has yet to answer a single question or do an interview. And that's by design.....the design of the McCain camp

You think the US public knows more about Obama or Palin ?

And are you comfortable with Palin as President, if God Forbid, McCain won, and then died in office ?

If you say so. Care to clue me in on this year's superbowl winner ?

If you're still reading, this race is going to break down along the same lines as the 2000 race. McCain isn't going to win in PA or MI and Obama isn't going to win in FL or NC.

The only real swing states are NH, VA, OH, CO and NV. And NV is a stretch.

Can Obama win OH. Win enough white undecided voters.....maybe.

Can Obama win CO, or VA or NV....again the answer is maybe.

If McCain wins, it'll probably be with the same formula that Bush won with in 2000. With a slight shift in the electoral count, that equals 274 to 264. Name one blue state McCain will poach from the Dems ? And don't tell me PA or MI, it ain't going to happen.

Don't get carried away chugging Palin's bathwater Jake (or with one particular poll). She has yet to answer a single question, do an interview or debate Biden.

The way I see it, if voters accept the bamboozle(McCain is a DC change agent LOL), the GOP attacks launched at Obama, and the farce that this woman Palin clearly represents (honestly, does anyone think McCain values her judgement, experience or her insight ?) then we deserve to be governed by the same Republicans that have governed for the last eight years.

Will McCain win ? Who knows, the race is dead even.

But McCain has already won in this respect, the race is all about Sarah. And it shouldn't be. One wonders what the GOP base will really be praying for, in terms of McCain's longevity, if he should manage to pull 270 out of the ether.....

I dislike false rumors as much as anyone, but can a member of the press please confirm why Sara Palin is not at least 7 months pregnant in this public Governors photo taken with President Bush in February 2008? Her baby was supposedly born on April 18, 2008.

http://www.subnet.nga.org/centennial/2008Meeting.htm from Feb, 2008 (click text link "View Larger Photo")

This photo is from March 14th 2008, where she clearly is not 7 months pregnant:

http://www.daylife.com/photo/0fcQ5EM7gafd9

Finally, she is also on the cover of December issue of Vogue which was taken December 12, 2007. She should have been 4-5 months preganant. Clearly shes not.

Reportedly, her water broke the day before or hours before she gave birth in Texas and flew 8 hour to Alaska in labor? Would a doctor/the airline allow this?

Why did she supposedly announce she was pregnant after 7 months?

There are claims she didn't look pregnant from public video interviews about the annoucement.

Why are there no photos/evidence supporting this?

Something isn't adding up?

It drives me to the point of absolute insanity that not one pundant or journalist can correctly define or defend what “experience” actually is. It’s astounding. The way it’s been used in this campaign is as definition.

I could theoretically know more about the constitution or foreign affairs and economics than Sara Palin even through I never held office. Am I less experienced or less qualified then her to be VP?
George Bush has 8 years in office as president. How did all that “experience” work for us?

Experience is an all encompassing term that is comprised of many metrics including knowledge, wisdom, judgment, leadership, temperament, intuition, perception, decision making ability, open-mindedness, communication ability, determination, etc. on and on and on.

The problems with Sara Palin is it’s impossible to know in only less than two months if she is qualified or “experienced” enough to be VP or the president. In order to know with some of certainly she would have to be tested by passing all these threshold metrics over and over. One debate isn’t enough, 10 interviews isn’t enough, 2 months isn’t enough.

This is the fatal flaw with McCain’s pick and exactly why this argument didn’t work against Obama. He proved he quite capable if not favorable by passing all the metric thresholds through 22 debates, 19 months of campaigning, legislation, hundreds of interviews, beating the Clinton’s and winning the democratic nomination.

John McCain is a sell-out and exposed he is just a typical Republican politician by picking Palin. He picked her to appease his base and poach Hillary votes. Palin wasn’t the best or most qualified, it’s because he knew she would be popular. How is that being a "maverick"? How is it ‘Country First”? How is this “I rather win a war than loose an election”? I’ll say it again, John McCain is a sell-out.

The most important metric for picking a VP is they are ready to step in from day one. His judgment is reckless and he gambled at our expense. The mere fact Palin is being educated on foreign policy and is avoiding the press indicates she wasn’t prepared on day one. She is running for the second highest office, but can’t answer questions from the press or public? This doesn’t alarm anyone?

I lost all my respect for John McCain. He's not the hero today he was 35 years ago. McCain is nothing without Palin.

What does it say about a campaign that has to "mimic" what and who Obama is, not to mention hijack Obamas core message of Change from day one just to poach votes? Is that all they view Obama as, a "product" a "formula", a “personality”? It makes McCain look weak and more importantly, the American people stupid if they fall for it.

Now all these puppets are willing to just get behind her without even knowing anything about her and try to convince the American public she is prepared to be VP or President? Not even uncertain objectiveness, caution, pause or question just because she has an "R" in front of her name? How can anyone make a clear determination reasonably in less than 60 days?

Bravo America! We look like complete idiots once again while the world watches. I am truly embarrassed of my country. I guess all isn’t lost, at least many will have Palin’s eye glass frames while our country crumbles economically. We are such tools.

Is it true that the winner in November's election will be the candidate that bumps off mutual opponent first?

Apparently the mutual opponent exposed corruption within both parties and now the persons are targeted by candidates representing their respective parties. This raises the following questions.....

1. Will GOP use Guiliani-like mob ties like his protege Bernard Kerik who was indicted and may get 140 years in jail for such ties?

2. Will Dems use OJ Simpson-like felon that may do jail time soon?

3. Will both GOP and Dems offer sweetheart exchange deals to both Guiliani-like mob-ties and OJ-like felon where once they commit murder, their jail time is lessened in exchanged?

4. Having blown the whistle on this possibility, should we worry about the safety of our family too whether in public or private as we are watched 24/7 and our habits and plans are known in advanced? For example, should my husband worry about doing his daily 20-30 minutes jog after work in Hackensack and or Bogota, NJ? Or my taking the bus to Maywood, NJ for a doctor's appointment around the same time?

You gotta love the McCain campaign for their selection of Palin. I thought Palin was this strong independent thinking reformer. The McCain campaign treats her like a daughter of the Busch Empire, "don't speak to the press", "walk forward and don't look around", and "keep out of sight".

The uneducated women maybe flocking to Palin, but it does not bold well for them based on Palin's image and policies.

When are we going to get back to electing "smart" people to run the country, not a 72-year old who graduated 894th out 899th and a 44-year old who went to 5 different colleges over 6 years for a journalism degree?

The McCain/Palin ticket reminds me of the characters in Chalrie Brown. McCain is Charlie Brown and Palin is the girl with the "up-do" hairstyle who doesn't say much. GOOD GRIEF!

Yes, Palin Did Stop That Bridge
By JIM DEMINT
September 10, 2008

"But, you know, when you've been taking all these earmarks when it's convenient, and then suddenly you're the champion anti-earmark person, that's not change. Come on! I mean, words mean something, you can't just make stuff up." -- Barack Obama, Sept. 6, 2008

In politics, words are cheap. What really counts are actions. Democrats and Republicans have talked about fiscal responsibility for years. In reality, both parties have a shameful record of wasting hundreds of billions of tax dollars on pork-barrel projects.

My Senate colleague Barack Obama is now attacking Gov. Sarah Palin over earmarks. Having worked with both John McCain and Mr. Obama on earmarks, and as a recovering earmarker myself, I can tell you that Mrs. Palin's leadership and record of reform stands well above that of Mr. Obama.

Let's compare.

Mrs. Palin used her veto pen to slash more local projects than any other governor in the state's history. She cut nearly 10% of Alaska's budget this year, saving state residents $268 million. This included vetoing a $30,000 van for Campfire USA and $200,000 for a tennis court irrigation system. She succinctly justified these cuts by saying they were "not a state responsibility."

Meanwhile in Washington, Mr. Obama voted for numerous wasteful earmarks last year, including: $12 million for bicycle paths, $450,000 for the International Peace Museum, $500,000 for a baseball stadium and $392,000 for a visitor's center in Louisiana.

Mrs. Palin cut Alaska's federal earmark requests in half last year, one of the strongest moves against earmarks by any governor. It took real leadership to buck Alaska's decades-long earmark addiction.

Mr. Obama delivered over $100 million in earmarks to Illinois last year and has requested nearly a billion dollars in pet projects since 2005. His running mate, Joe Biden, is still indulging in earmarks, securing over $90 million worth this year.

Mrs. Palin also killed the infamous Bridge to Nowhere in her own state. Yes, she once supported the project: But after witnessing the problems created by earmarks for her state and for the nation's budget, she did what others like me have done: She changed her position and saved taxpayers millions. Even the Alaska Democratic Party credits her with killing the bridge.

When the Senate had its chance to stop the Bridge to Nowhere and transfer the money to Katrina rebuilding, Messrs. Obama and Biden voted for the $223 million earmark, siding with the old boys' club in the Senate. And to date, they still have not publicly renounced their support for the infamous earmark.

Mrs. Palin has proven courageous by taking on big spenders in her own party. In March of this year, the Anchorage Daily News reported that, "Alaska Sen. Ted Stevens is aggravated about what he sees as Gov. Sarah Palin's antagonism toward the earmarks he uses to steer federal money to the state."

Mr. Obama had a chance to take on his party when Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid offered a sham ethics bill, which was widely criticized by watchdog groups such as Citizens Against Government Waste for shielding earmarks from pubic scrutiny. But instead of standing with taxpayers, Mr. Obama voted for the bill. Today, he claims he helped write the bill that failed to clean up Washington.

Mr. Obama has shown little restraint on earmarks until this year, when he decided to co-sponsor an earmark moratorium authored by Mr. McCain and myself. Mr. Obama is vulnerable on this issue, and he knows it. That is why he is lashing out at Mrs. Palin and trying to hide his own record.

Mrs. Palin is one of the strongest antiearmark governors in America. If more governors around the country would do what she has done, we would be much closer to fixing our nation's fiscal problems than we are.

Mrs. Palin's record here is solid and inspiring. She will help Mr. McCain shut down the congressional favor factory, and she has a record to prove it. Actions mean something. You can't just make stuff up.

Mr. DeMint, a Republican, is a U.S. senator from South Carolina.

DC Resident:

If Dobbs's next "Fact Checker" trashes McCain-Palin -- three in a row -- I will agree they are no better than MSNBC. I'm holding out hope for now ; )

HAHAHA!!! The Greedy Oil Party, the party that invented the swiftboating of combat veterans, the party of Lee Atwater and Karl Rove, is OFFENDED at Obama's remark!

It's just another facet of their attempt to intimidate and silence the corporate media, as well as change the subject, because the facts coming out on Palin show that she's incompetent, corrupt, a serial liar and a religious lunatic.

what riverdaughter said,

“And now, the DNC and the Obama campaign are surprised that women are abandoning them and that Obama can’t raise enough money for the general. I’m surprised that they are surprised. What we have witnessed is an abuse of our caucus system, fradulent primaries and superdelegates substituting their will for the will of the voters. And all of this was done with Obama’s approval because it was more important that he win than whether the party survived his candidacy. He was even willing to let Congressional candidates lose if he couldn’t be at the top of the ticket.

So the Post has nothing to report instead of this petty trick to weight down Palin with so called the "Baggage". Shame on you, Post! Another MSNBC. You brought the shame to DC.
Everyday, it brought me the fun to see how Post tried every effort to bring down Palin with petty stuff.
This left wing network never missed any chance.

Of courseits not McCain drawing these crowds., Sometimes I think the only reason people come to see Palin is because of the numerous scandals that swirl around her. Lets see, Trooper Gate, Teen Prego, A new alledged affair Yeah I think all that stuff makes her more interesting to people.

In recent weeks, John McCain and the Republican party have blatantly and without any shame adopted the Democratic campaign theme of “change”. It should be evident to an objective observer that Bush 43 and now McCain and Pailin are mere puppets to the true Republican national party leaders who control their strings. Cheney is one of the few of that inner cabal that have been calling the shots since the Nixon administration. They are in fact a continuation of the Nixon and Ford presidencies with only a disruption during the Carter and Clinton years. Bush 41( Head of the RNC during Nixon, former head of the CIA,VP to Reagan, and president is probably the real leader of this political Cosa Nostra if not a equal partner of this power sharing musical chairs game. His right and left hands have been Dick Cheney(former Sec.of Defense of Bush 41, former White House Chief of staff for Ford) and the other is Donald Rumsfeld(former Sec. of Defense for Ford and Bush 43,former special envoy to the Middle East during Reagan). Another member of this group, more likely a captain if not a full blown boss himself is James Baker (former C.O.S of Reagan, former Under Sec. of Commerce for Ford, former C.O.S and Sec of State for Bush 41, former Sec. of Treasury for Reagan, former chief legal advisor to Bush 43). Another captain or free lance enforcer is Karl Rove a college drop out and campaign manager for both Bush 41 and 43, also for Phil Gram who is McCain’s economic advisor.
Lets look at McCain’s staff of change.
On July 2, 2008, Steve Schmidt was given "full operational control" of McCain's campaign. Steve Schmidt prior to this was a top aide to Dick Cheney and a protégé to Karl Rove. Another advisor is Charles R. Black worked for Ronald Reagan's two Presidential campaigns in 1976 and 1980 and he was a senior political adviser to the 1992 re-election campaign of George H.W. Bush. Another advisor is Randy Scheunemann. He was project director for the Project for the New American Century. A neo-conservative think tank founded by non other than Dick Cheney, Donald Rumsfeld and Bill Kristol and others in 1996. Other signatories to this group reads like a who’s who of the last 8 years of the republican administration. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Project_for_the_New_American_Century.
These people have never cared about small town america or “values” All they care about is war profiteering. Many of the signatories have never served in the military. Cheney and Rove both dodged the draft. Look at the statement of principles by the PNAC. Rumsfeld was a good friend of Saddam Huessin in the 80’s Cheney didn’t want Nelson Mandela free. These are the real puppet masters, they throw out the talking points about the left of being elitist and not caring about middle america and these same guys other than Rove have advanced degrees and are worth no less than 10 million dollars. People who support them need to extricate their heads out of Limbaugh and Hannity’s asses and see what is really happening to them. McCain is not his own man he confuses stories of his real life with a book he read “The Gulag Archipelago", in which a fellow prisoner - not a guard - silently drew a cross in the dirt with a stick.” An ironic twist to all this is Eliot A. Cohen, a signatory to the PNAC "Statement of Principles", responded in The Washington Post: "There is no evidence that generals as a class make wiser national security policymakers than civilians. George C. Marshall, our greatest soldier statesman after George Washington, opposed shipping arms to Britain in 1940. His boss, Franklin D. Roosevelt, with nary a day in uniform, thought otherwise. Whose judgment looks better?"[

Thes are all verifiable facts and can be found just with a google search and wikipedia.

Other than the ultra affluent, how can anyone support the Republican party? When will small town America realize that they are being duped into supporting the ultra-affluent agenda. The talking points of the right are so hypocritical that it becomes laughable. The red meat of the right is the so called Main stream Media as if Limbaugh, Hannity, et al. are not part of it. They demean celebrity status, however they tout one of their greatest presidents(Reagan) was an actor. They say they are the party of patriotism, yet many of the upper echelon of the party have never served, i.e. Cheney, Rumsfeld, Baker, Reagan. They say that they care about "Main Street" USA but only bail out the Whales of Wall Street. Yet small town America eat this tripe every year. They don't care about relgion unless it can be used to stir up the base, nor science or technology unless there is a buck to be made. Small town America takes pride on its freedom but yet don't realize that over time we are becoming less free, ie wire tapping and other forms of domestic survelliance. They demean people of intelligence because they know many people of small town America don't have degrees and use it at a fake issue and call people who spent time in academia as elitist when many on the right serve on university boards and have part-time professorships. They say they are against affirmitive action but yet celebrate mediocrity, Bush43 and McCain graduating at the bottom of their classes. Who both came from already well established families and had all the opportunities and connections to excel. Why does small town America believes this is the party for them? Christian conservatives seem to the be the first ones who want to go to war and bomb someone before any diplomacy is tried. Why can't small town America and Christian conservatives realize they are being used as pawns just as much the Islamic fundamentalist are. Islamic fundamentalist come from small town Middle East and given the same kind of talking points as the evangalicals. They want prayer in school, no choice available to women, and believe to the core that their ideas about worship and country are the best. Wake up small town America you are being duped.

Talking about who is more patriotic, symbols, and wearing pins are nothing more than distractions to the real issue of how a few select group of people have held power almost continously for over 30 years. Yes the left has thier own political power groups but none have been so effective at pushing forward an agenda that is fundamentally bad for the U.S. and in a larger view the entire world. I stress again the now defunct PNAC and the AIPAC have been slowly pushing us closer to another World War. Bush41 and et al have been doing this and no one calls them on it. Every Republican admistration has basically the same people recycled since Nixon. Just do a little research and you will see that these people are just pushing this agenda of some kind of Pax Americana and not taking into account that maybe other nations of the world might not like that and if not bomb them.
Many people who support the Republican party, really need to read "1984" by George Orwell and see how we as nation have been inching closer to that type of society. People think this story is about a communist society, but it is more about how a society is kept in a constant state of fear in order for the ruling class to stay in control. Doublespeak, patriotism to the point of frenzy, censhorship, erosion of civil liberties (not respecting the constitution) is happening right in front of us. The cosilidation of government (the executive branch has never been more powerful than ever). No real independent journalism. Cameras on street corners. This may sound like delusional conspiracy stuff, but I implore people to research for themselves to really see what is happening to them. People think this could never happen here in the U.S. but all this has already happening, slowly, icrementally all under the guise of "keeping America safe"

I posted thes comments on other political blogs and I send them to you to use them or do with them as you please. I truly hope that Senator Obama will be able to stem this tide of facism and break this cycle of fear that has beem slowly eroding the American dream.
