McCain Makes the Economy Job One

By Juliet Eilperin
GOP presidential candidate John McCain made it clear in last night's debate that he now considers the economy the centerpiece of his campaign.

Responding to Democratic presidential candidate Barack Obama's allegation that he was focusing on negative attacks rather than issues, McCain said, "And of course, I've been talking about the economy. Of course, I've talked to people like Joe the plumber and tell him that I'm not going to spread his wealth around. I'm going to let him keep his wealth. And of course, we're talking about positive plan of action to restore this economy and restore jobs in America. That's what my campaign is all about and that's what it'll continue to be all about."

But in the earlier stages of McCain's presidential campaign, he explicitly rejected the economy as his number-one priority. Riding on the Straight Talk Express with reporters shortly before Florida's Jan. 29 primary, McCain said he believed national security was the paramount issue facing the next president, no matter what the American people said.

"Even if the economy is the quote, number-one issue, the real issue will remain America's security," McCain said. "If it's not the most important issue in the minds of many voters, America's security will remain the number-one issue with me. And if they choose to say, 'Look, I do not want this guy, because he was not as good on home loan mortgages,' or whatever it is, I will accept their verdict. I am running because of the transcendental challenge of the twenty-first century, which is radical Islamic extremism, as you know."

That was, of course, before the global economy went into a free fall.

Poor Joe. First he doesn't understand that the $250,000.00 threshold for increased taxes is NET, not GROSS. Then he gets dragged into the campaign by McCain, so his mistake is spread around the world. McCain should drop it and everyone else will, too.

McCain doesn't even get "economy." He gets "war." He would have done a much better job in Iraq than Bush, but hey, it's over, and we need a president more than a commander-in-chief.

John McCain has been acting erratically ever since he selected Palin for his running mate. When the economy failed his behavior became bizarre. Stresses on any president in the next few years are going to be extreme . They will be fatal for someone in McCain's health and mental state. When he steps down we will then inherit his Palin fiasco
.
Instead, we need a cool-headed and logical leader who can handle this crisis.

Kipling said it best:

If you can keep your head when all about you
Are losing theirs and blaming it on you,
If you can trust yourself when all men doubt you
But make allowance for their doubting too,
If you can wait and not be tired by waiting,
Or being lied about, don't deal in lies,
Or being hated, don't give way to hating,
And yet don't look too good, nor talk too wise:

If you can dream--and not make dreams your master,
If you can think--and not make thoughts your aim;
If you can meet with Triumph and Disaster
And treat those two impostors just the same;
If you can bear to hear the truth you've spoken
Twisted by knaves to make a trap for fools,

If you can talk with crowds and keep your virtue,
Or walk with Kings---nor lose the common touch,
If neither foes nor loving friends can hurt you,
If all men count with you, but none too much:
If you can fill the unforgiving minute
With sixty seconds' worth of distance run,
Yours is the Earth and everything that's in it,
And---which is more---you'll be a Man, my son!

He was talking about men like Obama.

The "I'm not Bush" statement was a prepared line to be delivered after a policy comparison by Obama.
Palin's prepared line was "don't look to the Past" during her debate with Biden.
However, Palin's response didn't get the same traction as McCain's and was as ineffective as she was.
In all fairness, McCain is not Bush but there is an 90% chance he would continue policies very similar to Bush's regarding the middle class. Who do you think would get frozen out in his spending freeze?
The rich and corporations would get more tax cuts since McCain supports the Reagan school of wealth concentration.
Did you notice any time the rich get taxed it's contemptuously called redistribution of wealth or socialism?
But when the middle class has to carry more of a tax burden it's promoted as fair and the natural order of things. Never concentration of wealth or elitism or greed.
Like Bush and Cheney, McCain is willing to exploit the neo-fascist tendencies of his supporters to curtail government interference with the new elite and their wealth taken from the middle class.
Using nationalistic fervor and xenophobia directed at Obama, Palin has shown that it is easy to manipulate the masses of Republicans. Government is portrayed as evil and not a necessary part of a democracy run by the people. The free market is touted as the best form of government , that is , until it recently collapsed.

egrhdow, the email you posted from Jeffrey Porter has been debunked.

Quote from factcheck.org -

"his is another viral e-mail falsehood. The author now says it's not true; the Army says it's not true; and video and photos show Obama shaking hands with troops and eating breakfast with them as well.
We received nearly 30 requests from readers within 48 hours asking us to either corroborate or debunk this e-mail. The claims it makes aren't true. As reported by New York's Daily News reporter James Gordon Meek, an Army spokeswoman at Bagram said the claims are "factually incorrect" and that Obama "took time to shake hands, speak to troops and pose for photographs" during his July 20 visit. Meek also reported that the author of the e-mail, an Army National Guard captain at Bagram, later messaged the newspaper to say: "After checking my sources, information that was put out in my email was wrong.""

Please feel free to verify the information at factcheck.org, a non-partisan fact checking site. http://www.factcheck.org/askfactcheck/print_did_obama_snub_us_troops_in_afghanistan.html

I'm not going to bother to debunk the rest of what you said, b/c it's too ridiculous to bother.

Knowing that the corrupted are their slaves, the programmers have created two cultures in conflict, one of them opposed to the Founding Fathers’ intent. If they cannot get their way “democratically,” they will incite a civil war. Now do you see why the God-centered family is the target for destruction?

This toxic culture is no accident: it is the result of a sophisticated psycho-political battle for our minds and hearts. Awaken now---turn from your manipulators’ cunning and forgive them. Throw away your drugs and booze; come home to family through the truth that makes and keeps us free.

It gets much worse. Let irrational debate grow to the point of paralyzing gridlock, to create an appearance of weakness that emboldens terrorists to blow up an entire city. Then point the finger of blame at the innocent---a father figure---for being responsible.

University-programmed journalists---elitist intellectuals and rebels against traditional fatherly discipline---with all their enabling feminine sensitivities, will then hail terrorists as heroes fighting for their rights against bullies.

Because propaganda alters our perception of reality, good becomes evil and evil becomes good, as in Nazi Germany. The biblical “Give us Barabbas” mentality is here again. It happened to Spain, and now witnesses the horror in Russia. Much worse is in store for America

Posted by: schneemans | October 16, 2008 11:55 PM

Then, when the programmers deem it time, they accuse the honorably elected of being tyrants and liars, just like their own rotten dads were. They use the “hate-your-father-love-your-mother” media to render those perceived deadbeat dads powerless and the nation leaderless.

One day, they intend to awaken millions of angry sleepers, reared by a matriarchal shadow underworld government, to run wild in the streets bringing their beloved despots to power.

Posted by: schneemans | October 16, 2008 11:54 PM

To confound us more, they promoted a debilitating dependency on “experts”; designed government “mental health” programs to make perversion, as well as mental and emotional illness, seem normal; threw money at social problems to produce wrong solutions; drove women out of their homes to work, leaving their children vulnerable; awakened unmanageable desires with obscene images; stimulated the young with pornography; glorified lowlife musicians and actors in order to sustain anti-social behaviors; made American family life cruel, base, and meaningless; doped up students to “learn”---and then blamed the whole mess on fathers and capitalism.

All this, to weaken our national resolve and render us suggestible to the demands of terrorists in every form.

Posted by: schneemans | October 16, 2008 11:53 PM

Because a nation with values is almost impossible to conquer, Communist and atheist strategists began their systematic attack upon the American family early in the 20 th century. They infiltrated our once-noble institutions of education, media, and government, so that the powerful few would dominate the docile many. The Soviet Union collapsed, but the seed, once planted here, took root. The result is two Americas in conflict, with the perpetrators of the quiet coup accusing the innocent.

They began by infiltrating our educational system and through that they made the government finance America’s own downfall. They dumbed down our children in government schools and enabled them to grow up from irresponsible teenagers into spoiled-rotten and immoral parents.

Then they praised and excused their victims’ wildness and let them believe they were acting from their own volition. They glorified that license as freedom; nurtured failings until it became hateful envy, and held up filth as art to arouse passions to the level of addiction.

Shock the victim, then accuse him of the crime you committed,” is a Soviet psycho-political warfare technique now used by Islamic terrorists upon the very country of its origin -- Russia. Typically, victims take on the identity of the terrorist or hostage-taker and, out of sympathy, turn on their friends, just as Patty Hearst once did. The Stockholm Syndrome---where hostages end up sympathizing with their terrorist abductors---works on entire nations, not just on individuals.

The Russian population might well have its loyalties converted in favor of the terrorists that recently slaughtered so many innocent children. Indeed, President Putin is already getting the blame. America is now primed for a final transforming shock.

Joe the Plumber is representative of all those white, working-class voters who vote against their interests and for the GOP because they have been sold a bill of goods for the last 30 years that the GOP's "values" are closer to theirs. This present Administration has proven, once and for all, that the GOP is the party whose values can be summed up as the party of the wealthy, by the wealthy and for the wealthy. Most people now get it; it is taking the Joe the Plumber types a little longer to wake up. If that sounds dismissive of Joe's intelligence, so be it.

THE STOCK MARKET RALLIED TODAY

BECAUSE McCAIN WON THE DEBATE!

Joe the Plumber now has a voice, speaking for the middle and upper middle class, trying to get ahead. The REAL Rich has been represented by Penny Pritzker's Candidate. Joe said, sure today it's people making over 250K that will get killed by Obama's taxes, but soon, as Obama's agenda gets more expensive, it will be people making 150K, and so on...it's like that old saying about not speaking out when someone comes for your neighbors....soon there will noone left to speak out when someone comes for you!

It's the end of the Greedy Oil Party as we know it ...and I feel fine.

"Our economy is structurally sound for the long term"
George W Bush - Feb 11, 2008

"The American people can remain confident in the soundness and the resilience of our financial system"
Henry Paulson - Sept 15, 2008

"The fundamentals of our economy are strong"
John McCain - Sept 15, 2008

"The economy is fundamentally sound"
Herbert Hoover - October, 1931

McCain does not have the ability to fix this economic crisis. After declaring the fundamentals of the economy strong, he created a political circus in Washington by mucking up bailout negotiations; a deplorable stunt, considering he and his political cronies helped cause the current meltdown.

It was McCain and his economic adviser Phil Gramm who pushed for the deregulation that helped lead to the banking crisis, and it was McCain's crony Rick Davis who had deep lobbyist ties to Freddie Mac. Don't let others be fooled by McCain's economic grandstanding because the reality is his policies and principles will only exacerbate our financial hardships.

McCain is being deceitful with his sudden populist message and support for regulation; his economic policies still favor our nation's wealthy elite.

McCain - Founding Member of the Keating 5:

McCain was one of the "Keating Five," congressmen investigated on ethics charges for strenuously helping convicted racketeer Charles Keating after he gave them large campaign contributions and vacation trips.

Charles Keating was convicted of racketeering and fraud in both state and federal court after his Lincoln Savings & Loan collapsed, costing the taxpayers $3.4 billion. His convictions were overturned on technicalities; for example, the federal conviction was overturned because jurors had heard about his state conviction, and his state charges because Judge Lance Ito (yes, that judge) screwed up jury instructions. Neither court cleared him, and he faces new trials in both courts.)

McCain intervened on behalf of Charles Keating after Keating gave McCain at least $112,00 in contributions. In the mid-1980s, McCain made at least 9 trips on Keating's airplanes, and 3 of those were to Keating's luxurious retreat in the Bahamas. McCain's wife and father-in-law also were the largest investors (at $350,000) in a Keating shopping center; the Phoenix New Times called it a "sweetheart deal."

McCain was not convicted of any crimes, though the Senate concluded that he exercised "poor judgment." (Furthermore, he got off on some charges by a technicality -- that he was still in the House when he took those vacation trips, and so the Senate couldn't prosecute him. The House concluded that THEY couldn't prosecute him because he had moved to the Senate.)

Geffen's "November Surprise" Could Trick Millions into Voting for Obama and Make Soros a Fortune.

A dirty Chicago machine
made Obama, and will be
expecting blood loyalty...

Soros' lefty candidates have lost the last two elections, and he's pissing mad. He has $7 billion to spend to get it right this time! He is reportedly planning to sack the U.S. economy, make himself billions richer, and put Obama in the White House marching to his mad tune. All the details, as well as how you'll be affected financially, are in the book.

And out on the left coast, Obama has a powerful ally in billionaire Hollywood mogul David Geffen.

Nobody knows how to spin a yarn better than Hollywood's finest, David Geffen. And according to our source, he'll be a whirling dervish!

Radical leftists see Obama as their ticket to power-and they are pulling out all the stops. Not just an October Surprise, but a November Surprise as well. The first from New York, the second from Hollywood.

We may be in for the craziest election ever, with so many unknowns...

That's why Floyd has worked so hard to peel back the mask and reveal the real Obama, his true political leanings, and what we could expect from an Obama presidency.

Few books are written in hopes of being unnecessary in just a few months-but this is one of those books. Our hope is that this book will be remaindered on November 5th because Obama has been told by voters that he's not ready for such an important job.

Our fear is that voters will say otherwise.

So we're doing our best to make sure we're not stuck in an Obama nation. Can you help?

Posted by: egrhdow | October 16, 2008 5:53 PM

must see

Why Is Obama Afraid to Admit He Was Born and Raised Muslim?

Being a Black Muslim doesn't disqualify him for running for President, so why won't he be honest about it?

Maybe it's because of what Floyd dug up from Obama's distant and not-so-distant past...

What was Obama's father doing with communist organizers just days before the Cuban Missile Crisis?

What did Obama mean when he described the Muslim call to prayer as "one of the prettiest sounds on Earth at sunset"?

Does Obama's supposed conversion to Christianity make him an apostate "whose blood may be shed" by the devout nutcases in Islam?

When Obama was a full-time slacker-doing drugs and drinking heavily, did it stunt his development in any way?

Has Obama changed since he spoke of the "coldness of capitalism" and told his communist mentor he was "a spy behind enemy lines"?

And what about Michelle? When she says she's obligated to put blacks before whites, is she just pandering, or is she speaking honestly?

With the Obamas often not on speaking terms, which of them would be sleeping on the couch in the White House?

One of the Muslim schools
Obama attended in Indonesia.

Back when he was an Illinois Senator, why did Obama vote "Present" a record-setting 130 times? Is that leadership? Is that "change"?

When Obama did vote on important issues, why did he vote the "Democratic Socialists of America" party line every time? (You could call that "change" but not the kind we need!)

How easily can Obama be bought? Unsealing the federal indictment against his close pal and fundraiser (and convicted felon) Tony "the Fixer" Rezko should reveal plenty.

Earlier we spoke of two revelations in Obama Unmasked that may well blow the lid off this election. Okay, first, a source close to the mad billionaire George Soros has revealed that Soros is planning...

Posted by: egrhdow | October 16, 2008 5:52 PM

Must see.

Why are so many Islamofascists who are sworn to the destruction of America also actively campaigning for Obama?

What special rights would Muslims demand, and receive, from Obama?

Farrakhan fires up
Nation of Islam to march
for Obama.

After refusing to condemn MoveOn.org for calling General Petraeus a war criminal, how could Obama be an effective Commander-in-Chief?

These are a few of the foreign policy issues answered in Obama Unmasked.

Then there are the questions about the homefront...

After Obama raises taxes the first time but doesn't get the revenue he thinks he needs, will he raise taxes a second time? And how high?

Would Obama put a gun to the head of an unborn child, but ban all other uses of that gun?

One Obama says he will force states to allow same-sex marriages. The other Obama says states can make their own decisions. Which of these two Obama's is lying?

What did Obama promise union bosses to convince them to commit more than ONE BILLION DOLLARS to winning this election?

Will ObamaCare drive good doctors out of healthcare and leave us to the mercy of, well, of who?

Do businessmen truly understand the tangle of workplace regulations they'll see from Obama's labor watchdogs?

Will the senior posts in an Obama Administration be filled with nutcase preachers

How Would a President Obama Respond to These Madmen?

Late on the night of January 20, 2009, the next Commander-in-Chief will be driven from the inaugural festivities to the Oval Office where he will be met by a national security staff ready with a "Threat Briefing."

Will the lunatic Iranian President Ahmadinejad be moving nuclear missiles into Venezuela, pointed north?

Will Russian stormtroopers be marching southward, trying to reclaim their lost glory by reigniting the Cold War?

Will Syria's Assad be ready to hammer Tel Aviv through his Lebanese proxies?

And what of the other unhinged madmen in Venezuela, North Korea, the Sudan, Zimbabwe, Burma, and the caves of Afghanistan? All kinds of bad boys are hanging around the global water cooler these days...

Obama with Arafat Advisor Edward
Said at an anti-Israel fundraiser.

By his own account, Obama would consider it a priority to meet at once with every evil thug out there - without precondition.

A stroll down the Champs Elysees with Ahmadinejad would make a rare photo opp - two men of Muslim heritage, there in an emerging Muslim nation, one of them holding a knife behind his back.

How did America get to the point when a greenhorn like Obama could be within a breath of the Presidency?

Posted by: egrhdow | October 16, 2008 5:49 PM

What are the two secrets that will rip the mask from Obama's young face and reveal his charade for what it is-phantom liberalism?

Floyd Brown has the answers!

And who better to begin the unmasking than Floyd Brown, the man who has loyally served the conservative cause since the Reagan years. Floyd's search for the real man behind the mask took him onto 3 continents, into the slums of South Chicago, up into New York's power suites, and out to Hollywood...

Floyd had no interest in attacking Obama with base accusations or wild smears. He aimed for the simple facts...

Would the mad
billionaire George
Soros run wild in an
Obama White House?

But what he uncovered - especially two plots being hatched by George Soros and David Geffen to steal the White House for Obama - were the most damning things we've ever seen in politics.

There are several good books on Obama, and I applaud them all. But no other book reveals these two secret plots, plots which clearly explain how Obama rose to power so quickly and how dearly we'll all pay if he wins.

These plots could be as damaging to Obama as Deep Throat was to Nixon or Whitewater to Clinton. When these revelations hit the streets, they'll he hotter than a liberal hawking global warming.

If Obama fails in his bid, it will be because of new discoveries about the people who brought him into this world, who groomed him for this moment, who now see themselves on the cusp of controlling a superpower-a lifelong dream of these people, these handlers.

So I am asking you to get Obama Unmasked and then tell at least five friends to get a copy as well - that's how we'll stop the Obama media machine from rolling right over an unsuspecting electorate.

Hi Guys,

This is from one of my friends/business partners, her husband is stationed across seas and he writes about his experience of Obama. I know we all have our differences, but he felt it important to let others know of how the soldiers feel!

--- I don't know each of your personal political convictions, and appologize if anyone finds this offensive. I thought it was important enough to share. This is Jeff's first hand view of Senator Obama.

Tiffany

Hello everyone,
As you know I am not a very political person. I just wanted to pass along that Senator Obama came to Bagram Afghanistan for about an hour on his visit to "The War Zone". I wanted to share with you what happened. He got off the plane and got into a bullet proof vehicle, got to the area to meet with the Major General (2 Star) who is the commander here at Bagram. As the Soldiers where lined up to shake his hand he blew them off and didn't say a word as he went into the conference room to meet the General. As he finished, the vehicles took him to the ClamShell (pretty much a big top tent that military personnel can play basketball or work out in with weights) so he could take his publicity pictures playing basketball. He again shunned the opportunity to talk to Soldiers to thank them for their service. So really he was just here to make a showing for the American's back home that he is their candidate for President. I think that if you are going to make an effort to come all the way over here you would thank those that are providing the freedom that they are providing for you. I swear we got more thanks from the NBA Basketball Players or the Dallas Cowboy Cheerleaders than from one of the Senators, who wants to be the President of the United States . I just don't understand how anyone would want him to be our Commander-and-Chief. It was almost that he was scared to be around those that provide the freedom for him and our great country.
If this is blunt and to the point I am sorry but I wanted you all to know what kind of caliber of person he really is. What you see in the news is all fake.

In service,
