Ahead of Debate, Carolina Is On Obama's Mind

By Perry Bacon Jr.
ASHEVILLE, N.C. -- Barack Obama is feeling a little vindicated as he prepares here for Tuesday's debate.

"When we started this campaign, we said we were going to change the political map," Obama said at a Democratic Party fundraiser here Saturday night. "And people said, no, it can't be done. And we kept coming down to North Carolina . .. And despite the pundits, despite the prognosticators, despite the cynicism, 30 days out, we are right here in the hunt in North Carolina."

Holding his debate practice sessions in Asheville, where Obama is staying at a resort hotel, the Grove Park Inn, is part of that strategy to cultivate Tar Heel voters. In addition to headlining a rally this afternoon, the Democratic nominee is planning a series of small events to attract local media coverage.

The strategy is working. Today's edition of the local newspaper, the Asheville Citizen-Times, featured a banner front-page headline, "Obama Crashes Dems Party," on his unscheduled appearance at the party fundraiser, and the paper's Web site featured minute-by-minute updates before the rally here about the size of the crowd and parking.

"The only thing I don't like is that I have to drive by this golf course and it looks really nice and my staff won't let me play, so I'm going to have to come back to Asheville," Obama told the crowd at Asheville High School Memorial Stadium.

North America & the Republican deregulation laissez-faire love-in.

Not even bottled water in the US (not so in other countries) has a decent content label. McCain/Palin drink the stuff & pray - that's their religious solution to everything: pray, pray to people on chairs in the above...

Palin, like what, in her strange, northern pray temple. On each side of her casual wear dudes & an imported Kenyian "wisdom" talker clearing her way in politics?

10 yr olds wouldnt fall for such dorky nonsense. Yet US Republicans at large seem to?

If anyone with mouth-twang, like Gov.Palin, were on a list of (business or personal) acquaintances ... by the stars above, head for the exit before merde hits the fan.

Just how naive & weird do Republican politicians (like Palin) have to be, before people notice their otherworldliness?

Seems the results are in, the most electable republican ticket would be Huckabee/Palin, not McCain/Palin this is according to a new poll at watchdebate.com nearly 4 to 1 people would preffer Huckabee/Palin over McCain/Palin. Ha The RNC got it way wrong this time.

Having perused all of the comments posted here so far, I'm curious if anyone actually read the blog thread, Carolina is on Obama's mind.

Obama has put NC in play. He may not win it, but if McCain is playing defense in places like NC and IN, what are the chances that Obama ends up with 300 + electoral votes ?

Slightly better than 50 50.

Nothing could make it clearer that NC is in play this year, than Liz Dole fighting for her political life to hold on to her NC Senate seat.

Reverse coat tails in VA for Obama vis a vis Mark Warner, NC in play, and McCain on defense in a number of other states that went red in 2004.

All in all a rather grim scene for Mr. McCain.

Reagan had charisma and was canonized.

But I guess that doesn't fit in with the whole "media bias" storyline.

Toward No-whereUSA: What Else Will You Expect From McCain-Palin?

Senator McCain scored very poorly in CEO and Commander In Chief test compared to Obama. His score is 45% while Obama’s is 98% (see President Barack Obama of USA---championsociety.com). Senator McCain has no clue about management process. He therefore employs whimsical, impulsive, or erratic approach to decision-making that has huge potential to nuclear-destroy a nation any time. His choice in a running mate who will help him lead America to nowhere is a perfect example, just to name anuclear-bomb one. It is clear that, though he was a good soldier, Mr. McCain has practically nothing to offer in terms of leading America toward trusted national security, domestic improvement in cultural relations, and fixing America’s economy. McCain, who was supposed to be a sensible leader, has proven the opposite. He now has no choice but to engage into doing what anyone else can do—anything, mud-slinging, character smear, avoiding the issues, anything, anything, anything. If this behavior does not scare you about this GOP ticket this year, then you need a medical jump-start. You had better get this jumpstart now or use your vote to leave America in the middle of some ghostly bridge to nowhere in the middle of the Atlantic ocean.

The wise American voters refused to be deceived by the lipstick McCain gambled upon himself, a hail-Mary activity to steal votes by insulting the intelligence of women and other voters, thinking that choosing a totally unqualified woman will cause women to run toward him. After the VP choice messed up herself before millions of people and exposed the poor IQ and management implausibility of McCain, the intelligent voters--men and women alike--carefully indicated that Ms. Palin is beautiful but she is certainly unfit for the VP job, dangerous to stay a heart-bit away from the presidency of the United States, and an insult to Hillary Clinton voters and well-thinking women. Now the woman who has no clue about issues can do what any other person can do—throw insults. No one needs a qualification of any kind to learn to do evils and cast insults on anybody else. Any child can do that. They need no homework to learn to do it. McCain and his no-where running mate are certainly qualified at this.

What a role model are they becoming to America and her children? What a role model are they becoming to the rest of the world? They are teaching Americans and everyone else that it is good to insult opponents whenever you discover that you cannot win a staged sport or race fairly and squarely. Is that what 'maverick' is all about? I thought ‘mavericking’ has everything to do with insisting on doing right and making others to do right no matter the calls of the circumstances. America, may our eyes continue to pop open at who McCain really is. The man is not about country-first. It has always been McCain-first right from the start. Whether it is filling his campaign with Washington lobbyists and America’s destroyers, adopting the so-called suspension of his campaign for the economic crisis, or choosing an empty-head pretty-face to wink at and woo non-thinking voters when there are other intelligent women around, McCain has clearly shown this nation that it is all about McCain-Number-one not America. It has been McCain first, McCain Second, McCain third, and country-whatever. When shall we learn? McCain wants to be President whether any problem gets solved or not. He can do anything to win! Quad Erat Demonstratum! Is this what we want America? Being fooled with nonissues anytime a general election comes across the corner?

How many tsunamies will it take to wake us up?I just did not know what to think when I was witnessing a grown woman and a governor of a state being used as a trash by McCain to cast trash on an opponent. That’s what happened when a ticket has nothing to offer, nothing to talk about, and totally confused. It is a shame! As I was looking at Governor Palin literally insulting and making a fool of herself and Senator McCain, I began to say that the voters and the people listening to her must be either naïve or desired to be deceived into ruining this nation again and again toward her demise. That was exactly what Palin was doing as she deliberately threw trash to Obama concerning the so-called ‘palling around with terrorists.’ When will American voters learn—before they die or after they die?

This is what a bad VP choice can do. This is what a wrong ticket and erratic decision-making process can do. This is what poor platform can bring. This is what you do when an unconcerned person is out-of-touch with the people instead of take defeat with dignity. This is a stamp of a gambling ticket like McCain-Palin, which loves to distract innocent voters with smears rather than talk to them about substance. Mr. McCain, who claims to love the nation, would rather choose an unqualified running mate and indulges in smears to try to tear the nation and his opponent down rather than lift the country up. Is that what you call “Country First?” Out-of-touch is a disease. McCain is practically Mr. “out-of-touch.” To make matters worse, he chose a dangerously unqualified running mate toward nowhere-USA.

Desperation leads to all kinds of evils. This is a perfect evidence of a crisis-laden political ticket who will have nothing to bring to the nation but crisis. America, if you dare elect McCain-Palin as your next white-house leaders, you have literally chosen the worst kind of leaders to lead America at this time. You may think that President Bush Junior is bad. John McCain and No-where-Palin will mess up America into nowhere inside the Bermuda Triangle. There is no other way to put it. I love McCain and I love Governor Sarah Palin, but both of them constitute a nightmare of leadership for America. You had better believe it. Through their intensely short-sightedness or lack of foresight, besides their dangerous make-up in management process and poor thoughtfulness in complex issues, America will be scorched in national security, scorched in domestic economy, scorched in internal relations, scorched in international relations, scorched in educational advancement, scorched in healthcare matters, and scorched almost all-round. Dear fellow Americans, we better wake up and smell the rat of McCain-Palin and run for cover under Obama-Biden. If we really do not care for this nation, then go ahead and vote for nothingness or worse in McCain-Palin. It is just a shame how we always allow ourselves to be deceived by things that glitter like gold but clearly aren’t even when events after events show us the truth. Shame to all of us for allowing ourselves to be deceived by nonissues. Let’s vote smart this time or we must pay dearly through our nose! I just hope we learn.

Now that we’ve committed $750 Billion to the Bailout, Obama’s Health Plan proposal for insuring 47 Million Americans with public funding is as obsolete as a recipe for Roast Dodo and as meaningful as an Edict from the Commissioner of the More Taste League.

Does anybody but me realize that in the Palin Biden debate, Gov. Palin blamed the middle class homeowners for the credit crisis.

She said people should not have bought a $300K home when they could only afford a $100K home.

With virtually no insights into the cause of hte crisis and no way to deal with it, the McCain and Palin team blame the middle class homeowners who bought up to get into good neighborhoods with good schools.

Couple this with Phil Graham's comment about Americans be "whiners" and it is clear they blame us.

The Great OB is a Great Leader
“We should not interfere with Washington politics. The presidential election politics belongs in our campaign rallies” commented OB on the parachuting into Washington by Darth Vader Mac. After signing the Wall Street bailout plan the Ruler W made a statement: “There were moments this week when some thought the federal government could not rise to the challenge. But thanks to the hard work of members of both parties in both Houses -- and a spirit of cooperation between Capitol Hill and my administration -- we completed this bill in a timely manner. I'm especially grateful for the contributions of Speaker Nancy Pelosi, Minority Leader John Boehner, Majority Leader Steny Hoyer, Minority Whip Roy Blunt, Chairman Barney Frank, Ranking Member Spencer Bachus.” The Great OB was outraged. How come this rambler did not mentioned me and my leadership role in saving the Galactic Republic USAmerica?
“I will punish him on the trail from now on!” The great OB flew to the vast prairies of the Galactic Republic USAmerica to hold more of his educational rallies. “This is all the fault of the Ruler W and the Dark Vador Mac.” The media reported that the polls went up for the Great OB. The Hollywood Celebrities Council sent the Great OB congratulations and informed him that they were sending reinforcements led by the great Rockers Bruce, Billy and Bon Jovi. The Great OB was again ecstatic “This time we will not pull back. We will destroy Governess Palin and the Darth Vader Mac will fall. “The Great OB sighed with relieve “The victory is close.” Just one more speech, just one more rally, more trashing of the Ruler W and the Dark Vador Mac. There was nothing that could stop the Great OB. The Hollywood Celebrities Council called the Great OB to its meeting that day. He flew to Hollywood immediately.
The Hollywood Celebrities Council led by Oprah asked the Great OB to attend it in secret as the crucial matters would be discussed. George Clooney opened with stuttering voice sprinkled with excitement “you are the Great Leader, the only hope for us.” Samuel Jackson repeated his mantra “we have a Leader.” Matt Damon and Ben Affleck agreed grudgingly chanting “the Great Leader, the Great Leader, the Great Leader.” Barbara Streisand sang uplifting song titled “The Great Leader that is OB.” Steve Spielberg reminding them about the high stakes of this campaign “without the win will be reduced to just celebrities in Hollywood, with this win will be the rulers of the Galactic Republic USAmerica.” They all agreed that Democs are the ones to rescue the Galactic Republic USAmerica. The Great OB will lead the Force. Paris Hilton, Britney Spears and Scarlett Johansson were asked to report to Beverly Hills for the fundraiser.
The only thing that stands between us and the dominance of the Gallactic Republic USAmerica is the Governess Palin. “We unleash the dark forces of the media at her. She is bound to crackle under dominance and unforgiving weight of the questions from the Charlie and Kathy. These two are sweet robots for us. We will deploy columnists from the New York Times to write about her day and night. The little OB Biden, do not forget to reward them with your interview one on one.” “Yes the Great OB, I will do that.”
The great OB flew out of Hollywood to the vast prairies of the Galactic Republic USAmerica to hold more of his educational rallies. “This is all the fault of the Ruler W and the Dark Vador Mac.” The media reported that the polls went up for the Great OB. HOW CAN THEY COME UP WITH A 'SOLUTION'
WHEN THEY DON'T YET KNOW THE CAUSE?

TARGETING OF AMERICANS BY GOV'T AGENCIES
A ROOT CAUSE OF WALL STREET MELTDOWN?

Once again, Congress rushed through emergency legislation -- socializing the capital markets, ceding effective control of the economy to the government.

Officials continue to blame lax lending policies on the part of the mortgage industry for spawning this crisis.

But were lenders ORDERED to offer "easy credit" to people "targeted" by government agencies?

Is government "extra-judicial targeting" of American citizens a root cause of the mortgage meltdown that spawned the broader financial crisis?

And is there a disinformation campaign underway to blame the Democrats, instead of ideologues who have hijacked federal agencies as their tool of "social engineering"?

Consider this:

Now that the Reganomics has passed away with Lehman Borthers, AIG, Fannie and Freddie, Meryl and all the other Financial Institutions that fell under the Deregulation-spewed toxic pills, Republicans may only dream that this thing was just a bad dream.

Reaganomics just died. Wake up. You Republicans are about to breathe your last breath as a viable political faction.

Senator Obama has kept that campaign promise. He has figuratively and literally changed the political map. He has done so by understanding that we are ALL Americans, regardless of where we live.

He has also re-invigorated our nation by his presence, and he has done so without stooping to ugly tactics.

I can easily see our nation reclaiming itself under President Obama.

John McCain, all-time mimic of W, divorced his crippled first-wife - see ya later, gotta go...

One month after his "see ya", our most exceptionally faithful McCain of the Country First Club remarries a rich heiress from a (filthy-rich) beer-delivery family.

And today? McCain is so mixed up about Economics 101 that he doesn't know in which of his 8 houses he finds himself in. Has difficulty juggling the keys of his 13 (imported, not Made-in-the-USA) cars?

McCain? Your American country hero, Manolete?

The "republican establishment" of his time accused the man called Jesus of associating with so-called "unworthy" people, paupers, thieves, women (even then, women were 50% of the population), maybe even slaves... although ancient texts do not comment on the slave majority of his society - a taboo subject then. He was a rebel, different, dangerous to the good old guys. He talked fine & about things to come.

Wonder how Gov. Palin would spin her memorized word-gizmos while meeting the people Jesus held as his own: paupers, thieves, women sans legal marriage and/or slaves, the sick, the fallen? Would Palin address them with her country twang? Hi, six-pack thieves? Gotcha, gee, hello, sandal moms of the dry desert? Listen you Armenian thieves and sandal moms, I say, country first. No, not your desert country, my country, the republican US, gotit, you desert folk? Wink, gotcha, gee, gotta go desert guys & gals, see ya.

Looks of amazement from the assembled Armenian thieves, paupers, beggars, women of ill-repute and slave majority.

AMERICA IS IN DANGER!

OBAMA’S POLITICAL CAREER STARTED WITH HIS AFFILIATION WITH WILLIAM AYERS AND BERNARDINE DOHRN, THE UNREPENTANT TERRORISTS ... part of “The Weathermen” terrorist group which launched a campaign to bomb" the Pentagon and the U.S. Capitol. In the 90’s, both “Community Organizers” Ayers and Obama worked together for years, radicalizing the Chicago school system.

At a 1969 "War Council" in Flint, Michigan, Weatherman leaders Ayer and Bernardine Dohrn proclaimed that the time had come to launch a war against "Amerikkka". The Weather Underground went on to claim credit for some 25 bombings over the next several years, detonating explosives at the rebuilt Haymarket statue, a bathroom at the Pentagon, the Capitol barber shop, the New York City police headquarters, and a variety of other targets.

BARACK HUSSEIN OBAMA’S CLOSE ASSOCIATION WITH RADICAL EXTREMISTS PUTS AMERICA IN DANGER of being taken over by a group of radical terrorists that would “change” America as Obama has promised;…but the change would be to fulfill the dreams of the Weathermen of overthrowing capitalism and launching a race war against the “white” United States.

AMERICANS OF ALL PARTIES MUST COME TOGETHER AND DEFEND OUR COUNTRY against dangerous terrorists and vote for a True American Patriot, John McCain!

AMERICA FIRST!
