Biden Turns Up Heat on McCain in Ohio Stops

By Perry Bacon Jr.
MARIETTA, Ohio -- Early in his campaigning as the Democratic vice-presidential nominee, Sen. Joe Biden noted often that John McCain was a longtime Senate colleague and "a friend," and his rhetoric focused on their differences on policy. Even now, in a speech here today, Biden said, "John McCain is a genuine hero, John McCain deserves our great respect."

But anyone who has followed Biden's rhetoric the last few weeks would question whether he truly respects McCain. On the first day of a two-day bus tour through small towns in Ohio, Biden constantly referred to McCain as "mad" and "erratic," the latter a word supporters of Sen. Barack Obama have constantly evoked since the senator from Arizona suspended his presidential campaign last month over the financial crisis.

"One guy running for president is fighting for you, one running for president is fighting mad because he thinks he may lose," Biden told a crowd of several hundred in St. Clairsville, Ohio.

He added, "I think John's mad because he doesn't quite know what to do."

In an MSNBC interview Monday, the senator from Delaware had warned McCain would "regret the rest of his life" if he focused on personal issues during Wednesday's debate, particularly Obama's connection to William Ayers, who was involved in the radical group Weather Underground in the 1960s and '70s.

Today, after McCain said he likely would mention Ayers in the debate, Biden said he was "disappointed."

"I was proud John decided to take on some of that attitude that was expressed at one of his campaign rallies, and I hope he keeps it up," Biden said at a diner in Lisbon, Ohio, in response at a reporter's question. "But in my view the ads that are being run picturing Barack Obama and people saying 'known terrorist,' I think that's over the top.

"Barack Obama was 8 years old when this guy Ayers was doing bad things," Biden added. "I don't know anything about [Ayers], I've never met him, but I know about it. But I think the average person looks out there and sees this guy and they say he's a known terrorist, and the vast majority of the American people associate terrorism with radical Islamic groups and al-Qaeda. I just think it's over the top."

Asked if he had talked to McCain about it, "I know John knows my views. I know he knows my views; I expressed them in a slightly different way earlier. It's John's campaign."

In my opinion, neither is a viable candidate until they address the TRUE issue with the pending financial doom facing America. All of these comments on the financial catastrophe that is now occurring and what the solution(s) should be.....If you are going to offer a solution, then you should first determine the true problem. If you offer a solution before the problem discovery process is complete, you can not offer a viable solution. Let us start in the beginning.....This is a FINANCIAL CRISIS that we are facing that involves our economy and MONEY AND BANKING. Hello......Is anyone listening?? The problem is THE FEDERAL RESERVE SYSTEM, AND ITS' AFFILIATION WITH THE WORLD BANK. The solution is that THE FED MUST BE ABOLISHED. WE MUST PASS A CONSTITUTIONAL AMENDMENT TO GET RID OF THE FED, GO BACK ON THE GOLD STANDARD, AND ADD A CLAUSE (THAT IS IRREVOCABLE) THAT WILL NEVER, EVER ALLOW A CENTRAL BANK OR FIAT SYSTEM TO CONTROL OUR MONETARY SYSTEM.

Twisted words and distortions to incite fear, mistrust, and distract is what the McCain campaign is all about.

Its funny how quickly people buy up lies and misogen being spewed by the McCain Camp. Its the throws of a dying campaign, stuck in hatred and fear from the last eight years of the same.McCains message might vere from that of Bush/Rove, but his policys are the same.Fight Fight Fight, words from someone who lives in fear, and knows no other avenue to civility.
The GOP beleives, just like so many before them, that they can force their will and ideals on other people.Christianity is the longest running mission of a secular ideal, and more people have DIED in the Name of Christ than any other, including the Holocaust.Byy Palin and all of Johns surrogates repeating the hate lines and persuing the stories of fear and distrust of Obama,They have done little more than Divide this great nation once again, and are still using Secularly divisive language that promotes nothing but fear and hatred.
John McCain, in all of his talk of being a Maveric, All American, has lobbied for Saadam Hussein, his relationship with the country of Georgia, his unfaltering support, was bought and paid for by that country.Little known about Georgia, but they have been using the same tactics as we saw in the Serb/Cratian fighting in the 90's, ethnic persecution, totalitarian policies,to "reign in " Ossetians and any one who wasnt on board with their plans.Lets hear a little on that front from Johhny, not lame stories about a meeting between Obama and someone who made some bad choices 30 years ago.McCain has made these choices, to peruse with Goergian and Husseini lobbiests in the last 10 years, in his current position as senator.

Keating destroyed a bank, Ayers tried to destroy America. Also McCain was cleared in the Keating deal, except for exercising poor judgment by attending a meeting with regulators.

scrivener50 makes some good points. I think its reasonable to be concerned about the possibility of "Bradley Effect"...OR that expectations of such a phenomenon will provide cover for insiders and/or hackers to rig the vote in some places.

The bottom line is that nobody should take this election for granted. Get out and VOTE! If you don't like Rovian lies and mudslinging, this is your opportunity to reject them. If you feel the nation is headed in the wrong direction, this is your chance to speak out for change.

BRADLEY EFFECT + ?ABLE ELECTRONIC VOTING = 2000 REDUX?

Obama needs to be aggressive tonight and NOT just sit on his "lead" -- because there may be no lead at all by Election Day.

Today's Politico lead story indicates that the Rev. Wright issue will be resurrected in McCain TV advertising... alongside of Rezko, Ayers and ACORN.

If McCain goes the "guilt by association" route, Obama should bring up the Alaska Independence Party; Todd Palin's membership in a group that advocates seccession from the U.S.; its founder's anti-American statements; and ask the question:

"Is your running mate Sarah Palin palling around with someone who pals around with enemies of the state?

If Obama lays back, he could see his lead diminish as the "fear factor" takes hold -- as it always seems to do in the waning days of recent presidential campaigns.

ARE THE McCAIN-PALIN CROWD AGITATORS THE SAME STORMTROOPERS WHO DO THIS:

What makes Biden think that McCain, a one time maverick, who is now a cornered polecat, is going to spend the last days of his clueless campaign acting civilly? That is naivety, you always want to believe the best, but the facts have proven otherwise. McCain is not going to reinvent himself to appeal to Biden and the rational voters, he continues to plant vicious innuendoes, thereby scarring and smearing his former reputation for truth and decency. Whatever happened to Country First? The hate campaign has proven, ironically, that it's not the old warrior (McCain) who is safe to lead the country, it's Obama. Let's look at who is more calm, cool and less likely to explode in a crisis. Let's face it, the Base is baseless.

Sarah Palin and her husband Todd Palin are successionists.
THIS IS BLATANT MISINFORMATION. SARAH PALIN IS NOT A SUCCESSIONIST.

What if Todd Palin was non-white?
TODD PALIN IS PART NATIVE/ESKIMO. THAT QUALIFIES HIM AS A MINORITY.

John McCain's ties to that same terrorist. Ayers, McCain and Obama were all invited to sit on the same board by Mrs. Annenberg, who has said she has a close relationship to both Ayers and McCain?
THIS IS ABSURDLY ILLOGICAL. HOW DOES MRS. A'S FRIENDSHIP WITH AYERS AND MCCAIN MAKE MCCAIN A FRIEND OF AYERS?

While you're picking apart Obama's stand on the most recent economic downturn, then you must also consider McCain's own S & L bailout by the government in the 80's. THIS HAPPENED 25 YEARS AGO AND IS CONSIDERED FAIR GAME TO OBAMA SUPPORTERS. GOOD ENOUGH. IN THE INTEREST OF THE FAIRNESS YOU CALL FOR, LET'S TALK AYERS, REZKO, WRIGHT. . .OBAMA CUT HIS TIES TO AYERS 4 YEARS AGO, WHILE RUNNING FOR THE SENATE, WITH REZKO WHEN REZKO WAS INDICTED, AND HIS 20+ YEAR INVOLVEMENT WITH HIS MENTOR REV. WRIGHT 6 MONTHS AGO, WHEN POLITICAL EXPEDIENCY DEMANDED HE DO SO.

LET'S BE CLEAR--MR. MAN OF THE YEAR WAS RESPONSIBLE FOR MULTIPLE BOMBINGS, ONE IN WHICH A POLICEMAN WAS KILLED. AYERS, the son of Thomas G. Ayers, former Chairman and CEO of Commonwealth Edison, WAS NEVER CLEARED. HE GOT OFF ON A TECHNICALITY.

Did McCain give the money back? WHICH MONEY WAS THAT? MCCAIN WAS INVOLVED IN NON/REGULATORY LEGISLATION. HE DID NOT PERSONALLY PILLAGE ANYTHING.

No, he has 13 cars and 5 houses. I think tax payers paid that bill, and McCain walked away. THIS IS PURE FANTASY. FIRST, MCCAIN'S WIFE OWNS THAT PROPERTY. THE TAXPAYERS HAVE HAD NOTHING WHATSOEVER TO DO WITH MCCAIN'S WEALTH, OTHER THAN PAYING HIM TO BE A SENATOR.

But, McPalin supporters, you don't really care about being fair, do you? OBVIOUSLY YOU DON'T EITHER.

Because if you were interested in being fair, I wouldn't have to get on this blog and ask you these questions. YOUR QUESTIONS ARE ABSURDLY DISINGENUOUS.

You would have already asked yourself these questions and maybe that would have led you to asking yourself why you would vote for the guy who just wants to tell you what he thinks you want to hear?

WHAT DO YOU THINK OBAMA IS DOING?????

Sarah Palin is no progressive and jus by her presence, she has dragged us all back to the days when we were property (not even 100 years ago).
A LITTLE HYPERBOLE WITH YOUR COFFEE, ANYONE?!

Be fair, if you don't want to be fair, at least admit it. YOU, MY DEAR, ARE THE ONE WHO NEEDS TO BE FAIR. OR MAYBE YOU'RE ONE OF THE THOUSANDS OF BLOGGERS IN OBAMA'S
$2MILLION DOLLAR PER MONTH GROUND CREW?

The Ayers association is quite tenous at best. An outright cynical lie from an outright lying party desperate to cling to power....an American fascist GOP>

So Obama is connected to what they called a Radical in the 70's and 80's which is now called a terrorist. Nice play on words there folks.

Now what about John's connection to killing millions americans a year and making millions of dollars from it. Senator McCains family owns large portions of alcohol companys. Which allows joe 12 pack and billy 40 ounce to drive drunk and kill innocent americans. Alcoholism is one of the largest addictions.

So McCain is killing americans everyday, but ayers only killed a TOILET.

Who is the real Terrorist.

I say JOHN MCCAIN

It is really not fair to question Biden's respect for his friend. None of us, not one of us - does our friends or family a favor by failing to challenge them when they are wrong. The U.S. will fail to exist when our elected leaders (in this case two Senators) cannot debate issues and decisions without their mutual respect called to question.

While some on the Right want to bash Biden for speaking strongly to McCain, no one seems to want to ask McCain how he feels about this. The fact is that McCain and Biden ARE friends and they ARE on opposing sides of many issues...it is their JOB to argue their points.

I wish Biden would explain to me why it is fair game for the likes of Howard Dean, Representative Acee Hastings (D-Fl) and Representative John Lewis (D-Ga) to make divisive statements but then when anyone questions Obama's relationships with individuals like Bill Ayers, Tony Rezko or the Reverend Jeremiah Wright it is hate speech?

Well, I must play to your sense of fairness, as Americans. If Barack Obama doesn't have enough experience, in all fairness, then you must say that Sarah Palin doesn't have enough experience either. If you are going to call Barack Obama a un-american, un-patriotic, and a "terrorist", then what do you successionists? Sarah Palin and her husband Todd Palin are successionists. Is that really okay with you? It's alright to be a member of a group doesn't think it has any obligations to the other states and the country? Is that not at the very least un-patriotic? and most certainly treasonous behavior. What if Todd Palin was non-white? Would you then be concerned about his membership in this successionist group? If Barack Obama has ties to a former terrorist, then you must also consider John McCain's ties to that same terrorist. Ayers, McCain and Obama were all invited to sit on the same board by Mrs. Annenberg, who has said she has a close relationship to both Ayers and McCain? While you're picking apart Obama's stand on the most recent economic downturn, then you must also consider McCain's own S & L bailout by the government in the 80's. He is one of the Keating 5(even had Keating campaigning for him the other day). Those men pillaged the S & L's, got a bailout and walked away with large amounts of cash. Did McCain give the money back? No, he has 13 cars and 5 houses. I think tax payers paid that bill, and McCain walked away. But, McPalin supporters, you don't really care about being fair, do you? You would have already asked yourself these questions and maybe that would have led you to asking yourself why you would vote for the guy who just wants to tell you what he thinks you want to hear? And Sarah Palin is no woman's woman. Do you know how long women have been trying to get away from having to "wink" at her colleagues in order to get ahead? Sarah Palin is no progressive and jus by her presence, she has dragged us all back to the days when we were property (not even 100 years ago). Be fair, if you don't want to be fair, at least admit it.

I live in Redding, Ca, Shasta County, California. I asked the following question to the County Registrar's Office this morning: If someone used my name and address at the poling place and voted what would happen if I came in that evening to vote? The answer was, "I'm not sure". I called the California Secretary of State's Office soon after and was told, "I really don't know". They said they would have someone get back to me.
They did tell me that they do not ask for ID or take a thumb print, the have you sign the voters list, hand you a voters card, you vote then turn in the card they give you a tear off receipt and slip the vote into the voting box. They also told me that each County is required to follow State Law and procedures so that every County follows the same basic rules. An Attorney in the State of California Elections department of the Secretary of State returned my call and gave me the following information: In the above scenario, I would be given a Provisionary Ballot however the fraudulent vote would be counted and stand as valid. The perpetrator would not be found as there are no provisions in our laws to facilitate it. He also said that anyone including illegal aliens or any other person ineligible to vote could register and vote. There is no apparatus or method under our current law to detect a fraudulent vote. He said the only way to detect fraudulent voting is to change the California Law It is evident to me that if an organization like ACORN was operating in California, there would be no way to discover fraudulent voting. If it was discovered, (as in the above scenario), there would be no way to find the perpetrator of this fraud. I just can't tell you how pleased I am to know how easy it is to steal a vote or invalidate legal voters in my State.
It is apparent that California's Government Officials, in an effort to assure low income groups the right to vote, forgot about the rest of us. The ones who's taxes pay for the elections and volunteer to assist in the election process can have their vote stolen with absolutely no recourse. No wonder the politicians here vote resources to Illegal Aliens/Immigrants' and court them as voters. The Illegal's and ineligible voters, (including felons), can vote with impunity in California.
The most precious right as an American, our right to vote, has been undermined by our Politicians. As a result, our Politicians in their own self interest are denying legal voters a voice in our Government.
Don't you think it is time to change this procedure so that our votes can be verified and frauds can be jailed?

When you look at the two presidential candidates we see two opposing personalities. Obama was diligent in hs veep search, he turned every stone before he settled on Joe Biden. John McCain met Sarah Palin once and just looking at her deriere decided he wanted her on his team.

In the past eight years we have seen John McCain go from a straight talker to a senile old man confused about everything. Whether you want to consider him a hero or a maverick is less important. The fact is he is demonstrating every trait that one could see in an erratic man. He is confused, changes direction often and is grasping on issues that are no longer relevant to the voting masses. Obama on the other hand has shown a steady hand without waver, concentrating on issues and staying away as muc as possible from personal attacks.

McCain's campaign has really no direction, no central theme, no leadership. There are rumors of in-fighting between the Karl Rove team who is advising McCain and the different lobbyists who have gained influence in setting up the agenda for the McCain campaign. Sarah Palin is marching to a different drummer. Joh McCain is finding it more and more difficult to score any points againt Obama.

I followed Biden to the Obama camp, but Barack is beginning to grow on me. I just saw the Frontline show on Obama & McCain, which filled in some of the blanks about Obama's history. I like him even better now.

McCain has sold his soul to try to get to the White House. As Obama's selection of Joe Biden finally proved to me that he did have good judgment, so McCain's selection of Palin showed me that he has very poor judgment. I don't want anyone with his bad temper anywhere near the "button" either!

UNITE AGAINST THE SEXIST MEDIA AND BARACK HUSSEIN’S MUGGING OF VICE PRESIDENT, SARAH PALIN!
VOTE FOR MCCAIN/PALIN

McCain isn't going to make it. He keeps "restarting" his campaign in different directions. He's become this election's "Flip flopper". Even his original message of "change" was borrowed from Obama's campaign.

He then later changed his message to "experience", but that changed when Sarah Palin came in and was woefully unexperienced.

The it became all about his "maverick" qualities, but, his actual message started to sound like more of the same Bush wrong direction crap the country is vehemently opposed to.

Now he's bouncing between attacks on Obama which are getting out of hand and hurting him, to feeble plays at presenting a "platform of the moment" to address whatever concern seems to be at the top of the news.

His exaggerations have turned into lies and the "straight talk express" has become an ironic joke.

And everyone knows it. His campaign reeks of desperation and it was that smell that killed Mitt Romney's chances too.

It's probably too late to save this sinking ship, and Palin's out of control ranting that outright contradicts McCain's policies haven't helped.

Independents are fleeing, moving to the Obama side of the aisle, and, as we know, it's that crucial 10% of the overall vote that really decides an election.

Biden is doing damage to McCain right now in Pennsylvania and Ohio. Hell, MCCAIN is doing damage to McCain right now - and Joe is just assisting his dear Senate colleague as he self-destructs. Next stop - a Biden/Hillary barnstorming of West Virginia? Why not?

To Pakerfl1:
Joey has been on leave for a while due to a death in the family. Joey doesn't have to seek celebrity status he already has it. That's why Obama chose him for running mate. Not to mention that Obama is relying o Joey to hold his hand and help him since Joey said that Obama would need OJT if he wins despite Joey belief that the Presisency doesn't lend itself to OJT.

The following handicaps McCain:
The liberal news media.
The Bush legacy in general.
The financial problems.
The Iraq war
His age.
Add to this that Obama's questionable background is off limits (modern times you know, must not get personal).

Amazing he's held in as well as he has.

Tomarrow night we will either see McCain go off the the pasture in honor as a bitter old man. As someone who voted for him in 2000 I hope it is not the bitter old man but will be surprised if he takes the high ground. McCains seems to be determined to have power at any cost.

Biden has quietly turned into exactly the sort of running mate Obama wanted - and needed. He is no celebrity like Palin, but he makes the stinging attacks on the GOP ticket combined with a populist play for swing voters in the Rust Belt, etc.
