McCain Declines to Blame Media for Housing Crisis

By Michael Abramowitz
DENVER -- His campaign may not be so happy with reporters these days, but John McCain passed up a clean shot at the media during his town hall meeting here with women this afternoon.

A questioner who identified herself as a small business owner who has been going through "two years of hell," asked McCain, "What do we do about the media"-- which, she said, is "killing" the car and the real estate businesses. She received a huge ovation, and the audience tittered as McCain seemed to smile and hesitate before answering the question.

"I do believe there are many occasions where the nature of the media is to exaggerate things and perhaps not be as accurate as we would like them to be," McCain said to laughter. "But let me say, very seriously, I think one of the biggest causes of this problem was not so much the media. In fact, I don't think that the media was responsible for what happened at Freddie Mac and Fannie Mae."

He went on to blame the beginnings of the crisis on "such a corrupt system in Washington that Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac basically got completely out of control, their executives got exorbitant, huge amounts of pay packages," while encouraging "all this risky behavior in the real estate market."

Meanwhile, he added, lawmakers and lobbyists, and greed on Wall Street, accelerated the problem."In all due candor, I can't blame that on the media," McCain added -- though he hastened to add: "I will blame them for a lot of other things."

Democrats for John McCain and Sarah Palin in 2008

peeeuuu Palin did not answer any questions only have vague and simplistic answers that made no real differences between McCaint and Bush2 policies.....

Biden clearly had a grasp of the issues and peeeuuu Palin was grasping at his pant leg....

The only thing I heard from peeeuuu Palin was her desire to change the US Constitution for VP control of votes...

In the history of the United States has there ever been a least understood, most ridiculed, and most often ignored constitutional office in the federal government...and she wants more control over HOUSE votes?

Two were never elected by the people.
One was the target of a failed assassination plot.
One was mobbed in his car while on a goodwill mission.
Seven died in office — one in his room in the U.S. Capitol and two fatally stricken while on their way to preside over the Senate.

And one piano-playing vice president suffered political repercussions from a photograph showing him playing that instrument while famous movie actress Lauren Bacall posed seductively on top of it.

The Vice president "shall be President of the Senate, but shall have no Vote, unless they be evenly divided" (Article I, section 3). In practice, the number of times vice presidents have exercised this right has varied greatly. John Adams holds the record at 29 votes, followed closely by John C. Calhoun with 28.

Since the 1870s, however, no vice president has cast as many as 10 tie-breaking votes

Palin appeared to be just like a "Chatty Kathy" doll, pulling the string on her own back and spewing the same old rhetoric and crapola.

That "By Gosh" demeanor came across as nothing more than a pageant queen's way of trying to win a crown.

She is what I have described in other blogs as an "Empty Bag" filled with a steaming pile of crap and lies filled up almost to bursting with all of the pathetic McCaint talking points but made no discussion on how they are in tune with the needs and desires for change for this nation...

As for the debate, No contest. Biden is intelligent and obviously cares about people, like most liberals, while Palin is your typical racist, sexist, homophobic, anti-intellectual who uses GOD, War, and economic lies in the same sentence and can barely walk and chew gum at the same time.

She obviously didn’t know what she was talking about and didn’t answer most of the questions.

But she does know foreign policy, cause, gosh, she lives next to Russia!!!

Oh, and why are we not hearing more about Palin and her witch hunter pastor?

I know it wont make a difference to many conservatives out there, but I've just been wondering we had to hear about Obama and his pastor, why isn’t the fact that Palin is really even more stupid and ignorant than anyone could possibly imagine (except the stupid people like her) being reported more, and gives it another reason not to be being reported at all...

With all due respect you thought Palin won the debate before it even began.

I thought it was cute she said O'Biden.

Her answer on this topic was great. She urged us to "never again" let Wall Street and ourselves not live outside our means.

According to McCain, Obama is responsible for the massive deficit (after Clinton left a balanced budget); George W. Bush had nothing to do with it.

I thought Gov. Palin won the debate.

LOL! :-D

Blame yourselves!

FYI-I called my Texas Senators today and offered Advice and Suggestions-AFTER voicing MY ANGER!

It did have to be done. BUT, my anger was much more for the reason that all the things that caused the market to collapse;

Sub-Prime Loans(Which just pay Interest for the First two Years),

The Insipid capital Gains waiver on Ponzi-Scheme Pieces "Flipped" within said two Years,

Equity Loans of 90% that create TWO Mortgages on a Shell possibly DEPRECIATING in Value-Or POSSIBLY OVER-Appraised(Why would anyone walk from a scenario like that?(Sarcasm)),

and Fed Access over-seen by the EXACT Same Timothy Geithner(Wall Street Fed Chair) who Hooked Clinton up with the Wall Street Banks in 1998) by Wall Street Bankers,

THAT, is what I am angry about!

Now, please be so kind as to call your Reps, and join me in telling them:

Then, sit back and wait for the FBI to trace the Malicious Countries, Groups, Organizations, and People who played us all like Cards!

Hint-Compass Bank, is MEXICO!

Golly, I wonder if they loaned to ILLEGALS?! ;~)

Now, what about Venezuela, and Chavez?

La Raza?...

Oy, when I read that McCain declined to blame the media for the housing crisis, I thought that the topic was going to be about shows like "Flip This House" and other get-rich-quick-with-no-money-down shows. You'd be fool not to allocate at least some of the blame (albeit a much smaller proportion compared to investment banks/derivatives and the Federal Reserve) to these shows for inflating the mania that helped to drive this bubble.

Biden is kicking Bimbo Palins A$$! Half of the time she seems to be reading her comments... I am oh so glad McCrazy is telling her how to think! Once again she keeps repeating idiotic, lame, republican regurgitated talking points....God save us from Republicans....once again Democrats have to step in and clean up their mess...and OH! What a mess it is!!!!

Gov Palin looks more like a robot reciting talking points over an over again even when it’s not applicable to the question that was posed by the moderator. Thus far, Gov. Palin has not anything to reverse the wide-spread doubts that the majority of Americans have. In other words, she has not over the leadership threshold.
