New Ad Asks, 'Will The Country Be Better Off Four Years From Now?'

By Ed O'Keefe
Striking directly at recent Republican attacks that suggest otherwise, Barack Obama says in a new two-minute television commercial that he will "launch a rescue plan for the middle class that begins with a tax cut for 95 percent of working Americans. If you have a job, pay taxes and make less than two hundred thousand dollars-a-year, you'll get a tax cut."

The ad will start airing in "key states" on Sunday, according to the Obama campaign. (See the full script after the jump.)

In the ad, Obama says he will pay for the tax cuts by ending the war in Iraq, thus saving the country "10 billion dollars a month"; he'll "monitor the Wall Street rescue plan carefully"; "let the temporary Bush tax cuts for the wealthiest 2 percent expire" and "order a top-to-bottom audit of government spending and eliminate programs that don't work."

The new ad comes as John McCain attacked Obama's tax plans on Friday in Colorado.

"The answer to a slowing economy is not higher taxes, but that's exactly what's going to happen when the Democrats have total control of Washington," McCain said.

A new national poll by Newsweek suggests McCain's attacks are starting to resonate with some voters: 39 percent of working-class and poor whites are concerned the Democrat's tax plans could hurt small businesses and 48 percent of middle- and higher-income voters cite the tax proposals as a major concern.

The full script:

At this defining moment in our history, the question is not, "are you better off than you were four years ago?" We all know the answer to that. The real question is will our country be better off four years from now? How will we lift our economy and restore America's place in the world?

Here's what I'll do as President.

To deal with our current emergency, I'll launch a rescue plan for the middle class that begins with a tax cut for 95 percent of working Americans.

If you have a job, pay taxes and make less than two hundred thousand dollars-a-year, you'll get a tax cut.

I'll end the tax breaks for companies that ship our jobs overseas, and give them to companies that create jobs here in America.

And I'll make low-cost loans available to small businesses.

To build our economy for the future, I'll focus on our urgent national priorities: reducing the cost of health care... breaking our dependence on foreign oil... and making sure that every child gets the education they need to compete.

How will I pay for these priorities? First, we've got to stop spending ten billion dollars a month in Iraq - while they run up a surplus. I'll end this war responsibly, so we can invest here at home.

We'll monitor the Wall Street rescue plan carefully, making sure taxpayers are protected and CEOs don't game the system.

I'll let the temporary Bush tax cuts for the wealthiest two percent expire and close the corporate tax loopholes the lobbyists put in.

I'll order a top-to-bottom audit of government spending and eliminate programs that don't work.

We face real challenges, and they won't be easy to solve. But we can do it if we end the mindless partisanship...the divisiveness, curb special interest power and restore our sense of common purpose.

I'm Barack Obama. I approve this message and ask for your vote because if we stand together, we can meet our challenges and ensure that there are better days ahead.

Leading in Job Losses, Rhode Island Struggles On
NY Times
By PAM BELLUCK
Published: October 25, 2008
JOHNSTON, R.I. — The family resemblance shared by John Hallam, his brother Arthur, and their cousin Dennis goes far beyond their ruddy features these days.
Dianne Ford says she has had no luck finding work.
All three were laid off this year from jobs they had held for more than a decade, with John losing two jobs in just the last nine months. Dennis’s 29-year-old daughter, Mary, a single mother of two, is out of work too, having lost her job at a restaurant when summer ended.

“What the hell’s going to happen to us?” asked John, 58, who drove a truck for a lumber company. “There are no good jobs here anymore.”

Or enough jobs of any kind. Rhode Island now has the highest unemployment rate in the nation, the first time the state has held that distinction in the three decades since such records have been kept.

With unemployment at 8.8 percent, Rhode Island has edged past Michigan, and every month seems to bring fresh reports of companies cutting workers, shutting divisions, closing altogether.
Saul Kaplan, executive director of the Rhode Island Economic Development Corporation, a quasi-state agency, said the situation “could likely get worse before it gets better,” adding, “ironically, we were the home of the Industrial Revolution.”

There are several reasons Rhode Island has fared so poorly in the economic crisis gripping the country.

Rhode Island also has few big companies — more than 80 percent of businesses employ fewer than 20 employees — and small employers have less reserves to withstand economic turmoil, Ms. Powell said.

Mr. Kaplan said that as the industrial jobs moved out of the state, it had become too dependent on lower wage service jobs like retail and hospitality, which he said were “very vulnerable to economic downturns.”

Many economic analysts and state officials say Rhode Island has long had a high tax burden for businesses, discouraging them from moving here. (!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!)...

Working to remedy the situation, Governor Carcieri has formed a tax policy committee to recommend changes. Mr. Kaplan said state and economic leaders were “moving full steam ahead to create a new economy here” to “come out of this downturn stronger than the way we went in it.”

SO, AS RI RECOGNIZES THE PROBLEMS HIGH CORPORATE TAXES CREATE, ARE THE OTHER 49 STATES ABOUT TO FIND OUT THAT RAISING SMALL AND LARGE BUSINESS TAXES IN A RECESSION IS THE FORMULA FOR A DEPRESSION?

Avoid this economic disaster and Vote for Jobs- Vote McCain

A job is more valuable than the 900 dollar difference between Obama's $1200 and McCain's $300 middle class tax cut !

95% of working people tax cut:
45% of low wage working people are now essentially paying no tax. There can't possibly be a tax cut for those 45% who incidentally could use it the most. It meant therefore more like__50% of working people tax cut... and nobody knows how much it would be.
And what about those low wage, underemployed people that organizations like ACORN makes to believe in this bogus tax plan?
This is a fraud.

The cornerstones of Republican policies are maintaining unnecessary tax reductions for the rich and continuing the equally unnecessary war in Iraq. Hence they are desperate to try to dupe enough voters to keep control of the White House to continue these foolish, perverse policies.

Obama so articulately lays out a clear, coherent, & sensible agenda for the future.
Neither McCain, nor Palin, nor anyone else in the conservative/Republican camp has come close to doing that so far.
Obama will govern by building a consensus, uniting people instead of the Bush/Rove tactic of dividing & polarizing the country.
What a welcome change & drastic improvement Obama represents over W, who has been the worst president in history.

Jack Welch Former GE CEO on This Week with George Stephanopoulos 3 minutes ago-

"The New York Times ran as its lead story the best ad for John McCain this morning"

He referred directly to the story I noted last night on how America's largest companies are cutting jobs AND the story of Rhode Island which has the HIGHEST corporate tax rates in the US with a state business tax rate of 9%- while most of RI workers are employed by small businesses, employing 20 workers or less, their unemployment rare is soaring- a promise of the future for the entire US if Obama is elected! GE, he said, pulled out of RI years ago because of increased taxes!

Thanks Jack and (I never thought I'd say this) Thanks NY Times!-

It's not too late to save America from a depression- VOTE McCain- Business employs the Middle Class!

Today's NY Times Headline-

Spending Stalls and Businesses Slash U.S. Jobs
By LOUIS UCHITELLE
As the financial crisis cuts demand for American goods and services, the workers who produce them are losing their jobs by the tens of thousands.

***GREAT TIME TO ELECT A PRESIDENT WHO WOULD RAISE TAXES ON BUSINESS!!!!!***

Small Businesses will lay off!

Big Businesses will move jobs overseas!

13% Unemployment in an Obama 1st term...

(only Herbert Hoover raised taxes in a recession...what kind of a warped mind squeezes every last drop of milk from a sick cow?)

BHO's vision of America is no doubt Ayers' vision of America.

Dissecting at the specifics, that vision is basically and deeply flaw:

95% of working people tax cut:
45% of low wage working people are now essentially paying no tax. There can't possibly be a tax cut for those 45% who incidentally could use it the most. It meant therefore more like__50% of working people tax cut... and nobody knows how much. So much for a plan.

Reducing the cost of health care:
That 50% government subsidy is futile as it will create crippling inflation of the existing care costs.

Every child gets education:
Education spending in America is still the highest per student in the world.

War costs saving from Iraq:
Defense spending has been below historical average of 5% GDP.

I hope you don't have to find out the hard way.

When it comes down to it you vote in elections for your vision of America.

And the candidates vie for that vision in the message they present to bring about that vision.

There are two messages to choose from here in this election.

The McCain Message of FEAR, HATRED and DIVISION.

Versus

The Obama message of Change, Unity and Hope.

One is an American vision.

When you vote on November 4th you have to ask yourself:

Which is your vision for America?

You democrats are dreaming if you think this country will be better off because of BHO.
For instance, take a look at the history book and learn what confederate general Pickett wouldn't do after the civil war and compare it with the relationship that BHO is forging with ex. Republican Colin Powell.
Colin Powell was a general, so was Pickett.
Defeated Pickett declined the offer to lead the Egyptian Army because he was a soldier who would never switch side.

Barack Obama and ACORN Donation

Barack Hussein Obama recently made an $800,000 donation to the Marxist community-organizing group ACORN, which has illegally registered at least 300,000 ineligible voters. This has been very well-publicized and can be referenced in any Internet media search. Should we be voting for a candidate who stands idly by while one of his favorite nonprofits commits mass voter fraud? Is this somebody who respects the integrity of the electoral process? And also--Obama claims to be middle-class and to stand for the working man. How many American workers are able to make donations of close to a million dollars at the drop of a hat?

Five Reasons Barack Hussein Obama Cannot Be Trusted On Economy

1: To this day, Obama refuses to condemn or even criticize corrupt Fannie Mae CEO Franklin Raines, a key supporter of his, whose insane zeal for lowering the credit threshhold of new loan applicants played a pivotal role in collapsing the mortgage system.

2: It is undisputed fact that Obama voted to raise income taxes for all making over $42,000 annually as an Illinois state senator.

3: Senator Obama and key congressional Democratic friends of his such as Reps. Barney Frank and Maxine Waters (D-MA and CA, respectively) were instrumental in pushing for Clinton's Fair Housing Act, which required banks to lower their lending standards in an effort to boost minority homeownership.

4: Taken cumulatively, Obama's promised spending plans would add up to an increase in federal spending of ONE TRILLION DOLLARS. Do you really think that ONLY those making $250,000 or more will be paying for something that massive?

5: Obama enthusiastically supported the $750 billion-dollar bailout that Bush wanted. In other words, Obama (who supposedly is a friend of the downtrodden and the hardworking taxpayer) likes rewarding corrupt, robber-baron CEOs with your money.

"I'll end the tax breaks for companies that ship our jobs overseas, and give them to companies that create jobs here in America."

95% of all high tech American Corporations employ both oversea and in America. Those include: Google, Microsoft, Yahoo, IBM, DELL, APPLE, FORD, GM and nearly all US aerospace companies as well. They did it partially because of tax break they receive oversea.

Those that don't generally are the news media like WaPo, the Times, Newsweek as well as the local farmers.

BHO tax plan will kill all small companies that rely on these big corporations for jobs.

The Wingnuts are seeing their 90's power grap being yanked away from them because of their own incompetence and they're throwing a tantrum. After controlling the white house for the last eight years and controlling congress for ten of the last twelve years they've proved beyond a shadow of a doubt that conservatism is a failed ideology and now they're panicking.
