Palin May Release Medical Records -- or Not

By Juliet Eilperin
In an interview with NBC News anchor Brian Williams, GOP vice presidential nominee Sarah Palin seemed to indicate that she would release her medical records before the Nov. 4 election -- less than two weeks from now.

In a transcript of the exchange, released by NBC, Williams asked, "Did I hear you just agree to release your medical records?"

Palin -- the only one of the top four candidates who has not released her medical documents yet -- replied: "The medical records, so be it. If that will allow some curiosity seekers perhaps to have one more thing that they either check the box off that they can find something to criticize or to rest them assured over. I'm healthy, happy, I've had five kids, that's going to be in the medical records. Never seriously ill or hurt, you'll see that in the medical records if they're released."

But the "if" in Palin's last sentence suggests that the Alaska governor was speaking in the hypothetical, and two of her aides did not reply to The Trail's request for a clarification.

Every wonder why the liberal press has not called for Biden to release his medical records? It's because they know those records would reveal he lied about his medical condition to dodge the draft when he received his induction notice. Biden was subject to the draft for most of the Vietnam draft era but continued to avoid service by applying (and it did require applying) for six separate deferments. Although in his best-selling memoir, “Promises to Keep,” Biden recounted his active childhood, working as a lifeguard and excelling at high school football, he never mentions asthma. Now he claims that “during the Vietnam War he got a draft notice but flunked the physical due to asthma.”

What actually happened was by the time Biden finally got his draft notice in 1968, he was already a lawyer so knew how to “manipulate the system.” His asthma was not detected during his draft physical but rather Biden appealed his induction by submitting "documentation" from a “private physician” notorious for “discovering” disqualifying features for well connected patients after they were notified for induction.

I would point out that draft quotas were assigned by draft board. When one man evaded, someone else, often less educated or advantaged and always less eligible, served in his place. Additionally, because many of the more capable natural leaders avoided service, we often had to settle for the LT Cally’s of the world for leadership. Think of how many American lives could have been saved if leaders of Cheney or Biden’s potential had done their duty. Isn’t it ironic how correct President Clinton was when he used to say that “it’s the little guy who plays by the rules that always ends up taking it in the neck.”

Now this is something worthy of a media investigation. Why isn’t NBC asking for Biden to release his Medical records like they are Palin --- “what good for the goose is good for the gander” – isn’t it?

Hyde Park Associates in Medicine, Ltd.
1515 East 52nd Place, Chicago, IL 60615

To Whom It May Concern:

I am David L. Scheiner, a board certified general internist licensed to practice in the State of Illinois. I am on staff at the University of Chicago Hospitals and Rush University Medical Center. I have been Senator Barack Obama’s primary care physician since March 23, 1987. The following is a summary of his medical records for the past 21 years.

During that period of time, Senator Obama has been in excellent health. He has been seen regularly for medical checkups and various minor problems such as upper respiratory infections, skin rashes and minor injuries.

His family history is pertinent for his mother’s death from ovarian cancer and grandfather who died of prostate cancer. His own history included intermittent cigarette smoking. He has quit this practice on several occasions and is currently using Nicorette gum with success.

Senator Obama’s last medical checkup was on January 15, 2007; he had no complaints. He exercised regularly often jogging three miles. His diet was balanced with good intake of roughage and fluids. A complete review of systems was unremarkable. On physical examination, his blood pressure was 90/60 and pulse 60/minute. His build was lean and muscular with no excess body fat. His physical examination was completely normal.

Laboratory studies included triglycerides of 44(normal under 150), cholesterol 173 (normal under 200), HDL 68 (normal over 40), and LDL 96 (normal under 130). Chem 24, urinalysis and CBC were normal, PSA was 0.6, very good. An EKG was normal.

In short, his examination showed him to be in excellent health. Senator Barack Obama is in overall good physical and mental health needed to maintain the resiliency required in the Office of President.

David L. Scheiner, M.D.

Sarah will not release her medical records. It would show Sarah's last child was Piper and the secret would be out that her daughter is the Mother of Tach. Yes Bristol is already a Mother and having another child. Sarah like any Mother kept the secret for her VP campaign. Sarah didn't know Bristol was having another child until she was picked VP. Now Sarah does know McCain's medical history and it's bad. Sarah often refers to herself in the White House and say Palin/McCain campaign because she knows she will involt the 25th Amendment right after John is sworn in office. Sarah knows how to use her beauty, sex, fiirting and bimbo style to move up the ladder. Look how well it's worked so far. Sleeping with her husband's business partner worked well and even that closeness to old man Ted Stevens worked.

Mo. sixth-graders face discipline for 'Hit a Jew Day'

Several sixth-graders from suburban St. Louis are being disciplined for creating "Hit a Jew Day" and then hitting Jewish classmates.

It began with an unofficial "Spirit Week" among sixth-graders that started harmlessly enough with a "Hug a Friend Day." Then there was "High Five Day."

Soon, though, the days moved from friendly to silly. Next there was "Hit a Tall Person Day" and, "Hit a Jew Day." Next month the plan is for a "Stomp a Mexican" and "Spit on an Oriental."

The school offers no apologies for their agenda stating that "real Americans" like Sarah Palin defined are not going to stand by and let "foreigners" take over.

Well if she releases them we'll all know about her unwed pregnancy with Todd.

Not that we care, it just blows her hypocritical evangelical piety stance to smithereens...

Its funny that her unethical behavior as Governor, or Todd's membership in the secessionist "Alaska First Party", her forcing rape victims to pay for their own police rape kits, and her forcing rape victims and incest victims to keep their pregnancy have not blown up her pious image with evangelicals.

Hypocrite evangelicals often look the other way when a candidate is a republican... This drives ethical Evangelical Christians insane, along with other God fearing people.

She won't release her records because it makes her out to be the hypocrite she is. But the funny thing is her base would just blame "liberals" for her discretions!

It would be helpful to explain to readers if the release of records is a requirement, a recommendation, a time-honored tradition, or what. If she's obsfucating when she shouldn't be, we should know. If she's not required to turn them over, then it isn't news.

If there's something we should know that is as relevant as who Obama met when he was 8, then at the very least, it might make her keep her mouth shut, except to discuss actual issues and strategies, from now till election day.

Personally, I think it's undignified for someone to have to turn over medical records. But for these folks, the signed up to play the game. All bets are off.

So what if she suffered from depression in college? So what if she had an abortion? The more I think about this, the less I think any candidate should reveal medical information. It tells us very little about the future - a perfectly healthy person could drop dead two days after inauguration, and there's old Cheney with a bad ticker who probably will out live us all. I think especially in the case of women, there is just too much prurient interest in this stuff. Let's take all medical information off the table now.

She's either hiding depression or an abortion or two. She dropped out of school 5 or 6 times. I'd like to see her academic records as well.

I am a bit puzzled by the fact Sarah Palin decided to have an amniosynthesis with her last pregnancy although she is dead against termination of pregnancy for "what ever reason". Amniosynthesis in not completely risk free, sometimes it can induce an abortion. It is usually performed to diagnose a foetal abnormality like Down's syndrome so that the mother has the option of choosing to continue with the pregnancy or not.
Will her medical records reveal her motive for this somewhat risky procedure?

Posted by: sarrijunaid | October 23, 2008 2:58 PM | Report abuse

Sarah Palin's reluctance to release her medical records leds one to surmise she either has mental health issues or has had an abortion or two. The fact that she dropped out of college six times leads me to think there are some deeper issues here that have not been probed. Thomas Eagleton was dropped as VP candidate due to his history of ECT for depression. My guess is that she probably has something like this in her records. What leads a person to drop out of school six times? depression, abortion? You name it?
I would like to see the transcripts of all these different attempts to go to college and finish. That might be even more revealing.

The idea of women candidates releasing their medical records does give me pause, and for the record - I think Palin is a nitwit and I can't wait until she's history (although I will miss the Tina Fey bits on SNL).
But, can somebody tell me which parts of a candidate's medical history would be off limits? Whether a woman had an abortion, a c-section, a D&C due to uterine erosion, heavy menstrual bleeding due to fibroids, etc. This is really nobody's business and it shouldn't be made public. I really don't know what the policy is currently - do they reveal if the candidate has hemmorhoids, irritable bowel syndrome, erectile dysfunction or other non-life-threatening but kind of embarrassing conditions?

I'm more interested in how Palin did not answer the question about what a precondition is. She only said it was a "strategy" and could go no further. Then she typically went off topic and blathered for a minute or two.

After all her comments about "No preconditions"" she still has no idea what preconditions are.

Sarah Palin's rhetoric reflects Bushie philosophy and policy to a greater extent than does McCain's own speechifying.

The fact that a couple of polls show McCain a close second seems to bolster the argument that he could have overcome the Bush albatross had he not chosen Palin.

With only 13 days out, it seems highly unlikely -- but if Palin suddenly felt a need to recuse herself from the race "for family reasons," McCain might be able to regain some lost support -- especially if he chose a mainstream Republican as her replacement, someone like Mitt Romney or Tim Pawlenty.

The Alaska investigations into her expense accounting and the Troopergate affair could supply McCain the rationale to make a dramatic last-minute pivot. A VP shocker also could serve as cover for more covert efforts to swing the vote; some analysts would attribute a last-minute McCain surge to the Palin dumping, and not to "irregularities" in the voting process.

THIS IS ALL VERY CRUCIAL- HOW ABOUT A BLOG ON-IS OBAMA THE 2ND COMING OF CARTER? (when you include Ebayers, Obama's 2% of small businesses make over 250k comment is valid - when you consider small businesses that EMPLOY PEOPLE it is far OFF! So, get your resume in order!)

Ralph Reilan- IBD Today-

Obama gets to his reassuring 98% figure by lumping firms with no employees, the majority of small businesses, with small businesses that have 50 or 100 employees. Census data show that 79% of all American companies, counting both large and small firms, have no employees.

Similarly, the SBA's Office of Advocacy reports that 52% of small businesses in the U.S. economy are home-based — that is, not exactly the heavy-hitters when it comes to job creation.

As the New York Times reported regarding the makeup of the nation's 27 million small businesses: "According to figures compiled by the Small Business Administration, there are fewer than six million small businesses that actually have employees. The rest are so-called non-employer firms that report income from hobbies or freelance work done by their registered owners, earning as little as $1,000 a year."

By treating a lemonade stand the same as a home builder with 100 employees, Obama can get away with saying that 98% of small businesses in America won't be hit by his proposed increases in income taxes.

He's telling the 59 million employees in the small-business sector there's almost no chance, specifically a 2% chance, that their jobs or incomes will be negatively affected by his proposed tax hikes and policies to "spread the wealth around." In fact, Obama's proposed tax hike on incomes over $250,000 is precisely aimed at the small businesses that are generating the highest revenues and hiring the most workers.

"Two-thirds of small business profits are earned in households making more than $250,000 per year," reports Americans for Tax Reform. "In 2006, $473 billion of the $706 billion of small business profits was earned in households Obama has said he would raise taxes on."

Obama's proposed increases in income taxes and Social Security taxes would shift the bulk of the profits in the small-business sector to the federal coffers, reports Americans for Tax Reform:

"The tax rate on the lion's share of small business income could reach 54.9% under a President Obama. The individual top rate will climb from 35% to 39.6% and the Social Security/Medicare tax rate could climb from 2.9% to 15.3%. Put those together and you get 54.9%."

By increasing costs, Obama's higher business taxes would have the direct effect of increasing layoffs and raising prices. His proposed 54.9% tax rate would be the highest since the Carter administration, when the nation's unemployment and inflation rates peaked, respectively, at 7.6% and 13.5%.

If I may veer a little off topic here. The latest Palin statement about the role of the Vice-President looks to me not like ignorance, but a real agenda. I won't honour Governor Palin with having had the idea, but she seems to be a perfect vessel for the neocons and don't I detect a Cheneyesk disregard for your constitution in her statement? Yes I do. She only supplied two years so far, unlike the other 3 candidates who provided 10 years' returns.

Palin can accuse no-one of sexism as regards how they treat or talk about her. She is the MOST sexist of all, wink wink, and believes that just because she's the "hottest lady governor", she doesn't have to live by the rules that all those boy governors and senators do.

Come along, Sarah, if you play on the team, you have to abide by the rules. Who really cares about Sarah's medical records? What is important is her total lack of common sense when it comes to addressing these obvious and legitimate requests. Why should anyone have to ask?

Great,I would like to see the results of her I.Q. Test, and current mental condition. A test to to indicate that she is "Witch Free " from the Kenya Jesus Medical and Church of Whats Happening Center would be a nice touch.
Also a DNA Test to determine what planet she is from, and if she is a blood relative of Representative Michele Bachmann.
I hope all her test results are as outstanding as her recently released "Fashion Test"

Is there a chance that she is hiding that non-pregnancy rumor about the baby that her daughter gave birth to?

I'm not saying I want Obama to die, either, but maybe I would vote for him if he had a terminal illness too.

"The medical records, so be it. If that will allow some curiosity seekers perhaps to have one more thing that they either check the box off that they can find something to criticize or to rest them assured over."
Everytime Palin answers a question, I have to decipher what she said.
My interpretation of the above quote is "Why do want see my medical records? Are looking for something bad so you can punish me in the press?" She has a terrible commamd of the english language.
Of course we want to know everything about her, she's running for VP!
She is so evasive on the simplest subjects, she's got to be hiding more than we already know.

If Palin's $150,000 wardrobe had a life of its own, it would get a tax cut from a President Obama.

I would be much more likely to vote for McCain if I knew that Palin had a terminal disease. I am not saying that I want Palin to be ill, I am just trying to make the point that I would be scared to death of having Palin as President. Each of us worries about having a President that doesn't share their values, and Palin fills that bill for me. A redneck, poorly educated, vacuous, religious fanatic, who simply recites what her handlers tell her, are not the values I am looking for in a President.

By the way, it's really too bad we didn't get the test results for Reagan that would have told us that he had Alzheimers. Reagan is the one who stopped all the alternative energy research, built half of the tremendous debt we have today, and violated major laws while President, is much of the reason that our country is falling apart today. I am quite sure that McCain is nowhere near as sharp as a typical 50 year old, and certain ly not as sharp as Obama.

The Supreme Court provided for a woman's right-to-choose, in the early months of pregnancy, based upon our constitutional right to privacy from government intrusion.
Palin opposes the right-to-choose and, by extension, all women's right to privacy. She talks the talk, how about walking the walk? Release the medical records. Disclose whether Palin has ever terminated an ectopic pregnancy. Disclose whether she indulges in marijuana in Alaska where this drug has been somewhat "deregulated". She jeers at "curiosity" while sneering at the right to privacy - so which is it, Gov?

Palin broke her leg when she was wrestling the Moose .... Give her a drug test, see if she passes ? In 13 days no one will ever see or hear from Palin again.

Wouldn't that be a hoot if she had a higher IQ than the three men running?

Posted by: JakeD | October 22, 2008 11:05 PM

Yep. Also if she had a bigger penis. I'm thinking THAT'S way more likely than her having a higher IQ. Unless you took the test in Bizarro world ...

Obama's medical records - "I'm OK."

Biden's medical records - "In six months, there will be a testing of Joe Biden... for Alzheimer's."

The Vice Presidential debate had more viewers than the Presidential debates? SNL had more viewers than they have had in 14 years? The interest in her is all negative? People are watching just to see her fail in some way. Google news puts Sarah Palin's wardrobe expenses as a top news story? ...The VP could actually preside/chair over the senate every day of the week constitutionally, but it has not been done in practice and would probably be pretty boring for the VP anyway. Thank you wise constitutional scholars. Biden's just plain stupid (repeatedly) comments (they make no politcal sense) are curious. Where is he coming from with that? I hope the crazy birth certificate lawsuit (Mr. Berg) doesn't pan out, because if Obama is elected and has to step down (not a citizen) then we end up with Biden and whoever he picks? Hope he has a great whitehouse press secretary and sec. of state to do his communicating.

Actually, John SIDNEY McCain III fought in Vietnam and was a POW for 5 1/2 years. Were you thinking his grandfather?

At least you vultures can't complain she hasn't talked to "real" media any more. Brian Williams was the last one of the major networks.

Sarah Palin and Michele Bacmann have just been inducted into the Katherine Harris HALL OF 15 MINUTES OF FAME.

As far as medical records, thanks to Sarah Palin, we know why John McCain is keeping his complete medical records under cloak and dagger. See the political ad the networks have banned.

How about if Palin just release her spending record during her very short time as Gov of Alaska?

Side Show Palin is a Freeloader.

$150,000 shopping sprees (at all the best "elitist" shops, no less), on the Republican National Committee tab.

$21,012 worth of free flights for her daughters, charged to the state.

All this, when she already makes $125,000 a year as governor and pockets an extra $22,883 in energy extraction royalties.

Sarah Palin is a chisler supreme.

All of which makes the fact that she charged $16,951 in expenses charged to the state, including 312 per diem allowances for staying in her own home just that much more amazing.

A dual income family, with Sarah earning $125K. Free travel (even for the family), and now free clothes, hair and makeup. They can actually go out in her backyard and shoot a moose, keeping her family in free mooseburger for a year. And still she feels the need to cheat. Shoot that moose for free and still charge the state $60 per burger. And she claims she deserves every bit of it.

Now that's what I call a perverse sense of entitlement.

"Sounds like socialism to me," to borrow a phrase.

Just another fake "bootstrapper" Republican. What a shocker.

Meanwhile, we all have to endure the indignity of Palin turning the campaign for the Vice Presidency into some kind of FOX reality TV makeover show, where they take some ridiculously not-ready-for-prime-time pol and dress her up, push her out on the stage, and see if they can turn her into a VP in 10 weeks.

What the heck, right? It's just being second in line to the nuclear launch codes. No big thing. We could even do a whole copromotional deal with moose sandwiches at Subway.

Thanks, Republicans. You sure do love your country n' stuff.

LOL!! Gov. Palin should not release anything more than Biden has.
