Palin's Make-Up Costs Add to Extreme Makeover Woes

By Mary Ann Akers
John McCain's makeup is right out of "American Idol." Running mate Sarah Palin's is so "So You Think You Can Dance" -- and so much more expensive.

McCain's September payments of $8,672.55 to "American Idol" make-up artist Tifanie White, who has also worked on the reality dance show "So You Think You Can Dance," are a drop in the bucket on the campaign's beautification front compared to the costs incurred by the GOP vice presidential nominee.

The Sleuth has learned that Palin's high-paid traveling make-up artist is Amy Strozzi, who was nominated for an Emmy Award for her work as head of makeup on "So You Think You Can Dance." Strozzi was paid $13,200 by the McCain-Palin campaign last month alone, according to the campaign's latest financial disclosure report filed this week.

That's $4,527.45 more than McCain's make-up artist made last month.

This is so typical of the left. Publish an unfair, biased, petty article hitting at republicans and listen to your unthinking, uncritical leftist sheep readers bleat baaa, baaa, baaa. I won't hold my breath waiting for any similar article regarding make up artists and wardrobe costs for Obama or Binden, because I know it will not be coming. Drive-by media indeed.

She is a typical so called evangelical. She walk on water turn water into wine and can't do no wrong. How many children could she have feed with that money?

I believe the national enquirer story is correct about the sarah palin affair.

Obama, Agent for Change.

Posted by: KMichaels | October 22, 2008 11:54 AM

This election is about leadership and who is prepared to administer the executive branch and to lead this country out of its quagmire.
According to Colin Powell, Obama is a transformative man. John McCain is burdened with unsteadiness under the pressure of the financial crisis and with the misjudgment that Palin is ready to serve.

KMichaels, I know you do not agree with the entirety of my post but I am glad to see that you recognize Obama's transformative qualities.

The greatest assist to the Obama campaign came from John McCain with the selection of Ms Palin. He captured the news cycle the day after Denver with his flawed VP pick.

The most important judgment he makes as a nominee is thrown away on a clothes horse.

Before you used reason and issues and although I thought you were dissembling and distorting, Now you are using fear mongering. Some how I do not think your judgment of leadership and foreign affairs out strips Colin Powell's.

For reasons of honest disclosure I think you should disclose that you earn more than 250K and that you support McCain to improve you business prospects. Doing that gives you some integrity. Just giving some pointers, your education apparently is deficient when in comes to integrity.

A double dose of scare tactics for thecanula.

The the added payroll tax will be ~4% and it will be on income over 250K and less than around a million. The tax will not go into effect for ten years and if our economy has recovered the economic environment will be totally different.

i thought mccain was crying about not having as much money as obama for his campaign?

let's see here... according to the article, the costs for SEPTEMBER ALONE

$13,200 for the pigs makeup...

~ $8,500 for the senile old farts makeup...

GOD ONLY KNOWS how much the percocet princess's makeup costs... (it's expensive to disguise walking death.. aka skeletor).. but fortunately for the republikkkans, that is probably paid for out of daddy warbucks wallet.. well, maybe not, knowing mccain.

and then even after all these "investments" senile mccain is spending for this country, the wasilla moose STILL doesn't have a brain!

how much DOES a brain implant cost? you known... palin doesn't really need a BIG brain.. even a brain from a hamster or a gerbil would be fine for her... at least it would allow her to *almost* form complete sentences..

case in point;

Katie Couric: You've cited Alaska's proximity to Russia as part of your foreign policy experience. What did you mean by that?

Mrs Bullwinkle: That Alaska has a very narrow maritime border between a foreign country, Russia, and, on our other side, the land-boundary that we have with Canada. It's funny that a comment like that was kinda made to … I don't know, you know … reporters.

Katie Couric: Mocked?

Mrs Bullwinkle: Yeah, mocked, I guess that's the word, yeah.

Katie Couric: Well, explain to me why that enhances your foreign-policy credentials.

Mrs Bullwinkle: Well, it certainly does, because our, our next-door neighbors are foreign countries, there in the state that I am the executive of. And there…

Katie Couric: Have you ever been involved in any negotiations, for example, with the Russians?

Moose Lady: We have trade missions back and forth, we do. It's very important when you consider even national security issues with Russia. As Putin rears his head and comes into the air space of the United States of America, where do they go? It's Alaska. It's just right over the border. It is from Alaska that we send those out to make sure that an eye is being kept on this very powerful nation, Russia, because they are right there, they are right next to our state.

wow. pretty scary, huh?

As it turns out Palin was lipstick on a pit bull. What she failed to tell us was that it was lipstick on her puppies and extravagant clothing and accessories on the momma dog and the pups. What would be the interesting figure is what was the cost to the McCain campaign in dollars for each net vote she lost.

It is calculations like that which will have an impact on cost conscious Republicans who refuse to face the lack of wisdom of the Palin selection. John McCain is unfit to serve and his stalking horse is a principal reason.

Oh, I see, those who live in “real America” spend $150,000 on clothes and the rest of us who live in “fake America” don’t. This women is a train wreck. Just watch the media drop this story into Orwell’s memory hole, just like troopergate, the expenses story, etc. etc.

A Pitbull in Valentino, Karan, Armani...

The tens of thousands of Alaskan taxpayer dollars Sarah Palin evidently spent on travel expenses for her children--and, arguably worse, her office's after-the-fact rationalizations and dubious record-altering--paint a generally unappealing portrait of the governor's idea of the prerogatives of her office. But, however they may reflect upon her, they are something her non-Alaskan supporters are unlikely to care much about.

Some GOP donors, however--and in particular any Joe the Plumbers, Tito the Builders, Phil the Bricklayers, etc., among them--may be less than thrilled to hear that the RNC has apparently spent $150,000 clothing and accessorizing La Palin since she got the v.p. nod, including $75,000 at Nieman Marcus and a hair under $50,000 at Saks.

On the plus side, John McCain's $520 Ferragamos now sound like the shoes of a pauper.

Update: Marc Ambinder presents evidence that the clothing purchases may, in fact, violate contribution law.

While the WaPo is wasting time on relatively trivial matters like this, they appear to be completely ignoring the millions in possibly fraudulent donations the BHO campaign has received:

To the WaPo, the possibility of foreign citizens or criminals buying an election is overshadowed by some clothes.

P.S. for an example of Mary Ann Akers lying and misleading, see my comment here:

wirro, maybe RNC donations can be used for clothing. Obama spent $437,144 on food. You also have the wrong Code section. 2 USC § 439b (2) reads (in full): "keep such reports and statements (either in original filed form or in facsimile copy by microfilm or otherwise) for 2 years after their date of receipt;"

Posted by: MarkInAustin | October 22, 2008 1:33 PM | Report abuse

Barack and Michelle are high earners (book for Barack, law practice for Michelle) and buy their own clothes. Isn't Palin always saying how thrifty she is? Now we find out that she spent 150K on clothing. Since the McCain campaign is publically financed, that is our money she's buying clothes with. Reminds me that Palin spent 50K to pimp out her Governor's mansion with a tanning bed. And that, as mayor of Wasilla, she used tax dollars to buy herself a 25K SUV.

And she can be trusted with our money?? As mayor of Wasilla she borrowed 50 mil to build a gym (leaving the town in debt). In Alaska, oil companies pay for everything, so she has no idea about responsiblity with taxpayer money.

I will give the McCain campaign credit for not hiring who ever did the makeup for Katherine Harris.They probably could have gotten more for less for Palin at numerous other stores. Most families don't spend that much for clothes in a lifetime.It looks like all has to be returned to the RNC fairy godmothers when the clock strikes midnight on election day.

Posted by: ejgallagher1 | October 22, 2008 1:21 PM | Report abuse

One of the problems Palin's spending spree is that it is specifically illegal to use political donations for clothing and I don't see any exemption for, "We always intended to give the clothes to charity after the campaign":

See 2 USC 439b(2)(B)

(b) Prohibited use
(1) In general
A contribution or donation described in subsection (a) of this section shall not be converted by any person to personal use.
(2) Conversion
For the purposes of paragraph (1), a contribution or donation shall be considered to be converted to personal use if the contribution or amount is used to fulfill any commitment, obligation, or expense of a person that would exist irrespective of the candidate's election campaign or individual's duties as a holder of Federal office, including--
(A) a home mortgage, rent, or utility payment;
(B) a clothing purchase;
(C) a noncampaign-related automobile expense;
(D) a country club membership;
(E) a vacation or other noncampaign-related trip;
(F) a household food item;
(G) a tuition payment;
(H) admission to a sporting event, concert, theater, or other form of entertainment not associated with an election campaign; and
(I) dues, fees, and other payments to a health club or recreational facility.

To Palin: Have you been listening, Governor, to yourself in the public arena? American Women want leadership in the Highest office. But American women want and deserves to have woman leadership that appropriately uses their God-given intelligence. We don't need a "Ms. America" pagent winner. The $150k expenditures demonstrates Palin doesn't demonstrate "Country First". How dare Palin exploits her children like the Republicans are exploiting her(Palin.) But, then, that's the point, Palin is not using her God-Given intelligence. Palin is submitting to her chronic distress patterns re-stimulated by the Republican dictation...
INTELLIGENCE is defined "as the ability to come up with a brand-new, accurate response for each new situation, to never use an old response for a new situation because a new situation is new, and if you try to use something that worked fine for a previous situation, it is not going to quite fit the new situation, that never occurred before. There aren't any identical entities in the universe." I quote my lifelong professor of humanity.
To Palin: Evidently, you are just starting to read past information that may have been a good idea, dealing with McCain's situation of yesterday. But, McCain's old remedies don't fit the new environmental nor economical differences, today.
There are many ways of approaching this Presidential race, using developed intelligence. It depends on trusting your own thinking.
You will make mistakes if you do anything, meaningful at all, but if you are acting on your own thinking, the results will quickly be noticed by you and you will correct the mistakes promptly.
If you have accepted McCain or someone else's thinking as your guide, you have already stopped thinking for yourself, and mistakes will go uncorrected much longer, as your mistakes have gone uncorrected in the simple issue of knowing what your job will be as Vice President. July 2008--Palin said to America, someone needs to tell her what a Vice President's job is. In the VP debate, some weeks ago, Palin demonstrated that she did not know what the VP's job is. October 21, 2008, in an interview, where American children expressed their interest in knowing what the Vice President's job is, Palin still did not know what her job would be if she became the VP of America.
Palin proved that she has stopped thinking and is using someone else's thinking on the issues and persons that matters most---Our Children in America and the wide-world.
$150k is only a fraction of the financial pay-off for Palin's submittion to other people's thinking. The greater danger is the other people are thinking is stuck in negativity and clouded judgement of America's goods.

I think today it was reported that Obama bought $7,500 worth of new suits. And I bet no one can tell one from the other anyway.

This is silly stuff as it is to criticize Obama for the living condition of his relatives in Africa.

Obama's other grandmother is still rotting in absolute poverty living off of 1$ per month. Michelles last dress could buy his black granny 20 years worth of her current living. Michelles last meal could pay for 3 years of Obama's black granny in Kenya.

Obama's black brother in Kenya is also living in a different shack also living off of about 1$ per month.

Ah, the kindhearted nature of Obama is just stunning.

I kind of figured though that when the real Messiah showed up that he would be a bit more kind and a bit less of a self-promoting blowhard that Obama proves to be.

Jesus, near death, was thinking of his mother, and asked one of his followers to please take care of his mother as though she were his own mother. Jesus motioning his mother to the follower stated, Mother, behold thy son. Then motioning to his follower, he stated, Behold thy mother. Jesus, even near death thought of others first.

Obama, behold thy grandmother, living in absolute poverty. Ah, I dont have the time, I have some personal glory to obtain to.

Obama, behold thy brother, living off of just a few dollars. Ah, I would like to. Maybe I could raise the taxes to help pay for him when I get around to it.

Records show that McCain gave 1800 percent more to charity than did Obama from his own personal funds.

Obama, Agent for Change.
