Schwazenegger Derides Obama as a 'Skinny' Wealth-Spreader

By Juliet Eilperin
COLUMBUS, Ohio -- Headlining an event titled "Judgment Day," California Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger tonight delivered an impassioned pitch for electing GOP presidential nominee John McCain before a packed arena of supporters.

While the former bodybuilder and moderate Republican started his pitch on a humorous note -- suggesting Democratic presidential nominee Barack Obama should come to his Arnold's Classic bodybuilding in Ohio next spring "because he needs to do something about those skinny legs" and because he needs to "beef up those scrawny little arms" -- the governor quickly pivoted to attack Obama as a liberal akin to European socialists.

"I left Europe four decades ago because socialism has killed opportunities there," he said, sparking an extended round of applause. "In recent years, Europe has realized its mistakes, has begun rolling back some of its 'spread the wealth' policies... But now Senator Obama says he wants to pursue those same 'spread the wealth' ideas."

"Now, just because you want to raise a tax, certainly doesn't make you a socialist," said Schwarzenegger, who has raised taxes to cope with California's current budget crisis. "But Senator Obama wants to raise taxes because of ideology."

The fact that Obama has raised unprecedented sums this cycle and spent it on his campaign, Schwarzenegger argued, is merely proof that he's not looking out for the public interest.

"He could have bailed out the banks, paid off everyone's mortgages and saved taxpayers a lot of money," he said, setting off another round of cheers. "I think there will be a backlash against all this lopsided spending. I think voters will say, 'Democracy is not for sale.'"

Calling McCain "a real action hero," Schwarzenegger mocked the Democratic nominee for his lack of experience: "John has served this country longer in a P.O.W. camp than his opponent has served in the U.S. Senate... On Election Day, he will prove the media wrong."

McCain riffed off of Schwarzenegger's speech, repeating the same phrase the governor used toward the end of his speech: "The Mac is back!"

While McCain often begins his speeches by asking veterans in the audience to raise their hands to be recognized, tonight the GOP nominee lavished this honor on business owners before turning his attention to those who have served in the military. "Small businesspeople raise your hands, so I can thank you for creating jobs all over Ohio," he announced.

McCain went on to accuse Obama of a litany of economic sins, including wanting to tax Americans' retirement accounts, reward Wall Street barons and raise taxes on small businesses.

"He views taxes not in economic terms, but moral terms," McCains said. "He thinks the government has a moral claim on your hard-earned dollars."

I am rather surprised and sad at California Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger's negative comments he made against U.S. Senator Barack Obama. When one take into account that Schwarzenegger is married to a Kennedy's wife, who has been supporting the Obama's campaign. I cannot imagine what goes on in the private and personal life of Schwarzenegger. I can care less. One thing I know tough, Schwarzenegger can never run for the U.S. Presidency because he is a naturalized U.S. citizen; he may have more body muscle but Obama have more brains and intelligence; and Schwarzenegger's can actually be deported from the United States if he lied on his immigration and naturalization documents. In summary, Schwarzenegger instead of helping John McCain's campaign with his sarcastic comments, Schwarzenegger and McCain helped score Obama more votes.

What do muscle size and ability to govern have in common ? NOTHING!! Proof - Arnold Schwarzenneger.

Arnold I liked you better as an actor. Now that you are a politian, I don't care for you at all and from this day forward any movies or dvd's that I own with you are in them will be destroyed along with Chuck Norris movies as well.

To think that any candidate can take campaign contributions and use them for anything else other than the campaign itself is a federal offense. To think they made you a Govenor says a lot.

The citizens of California must really be proud.

Obama's ten times the man Schwarzenegger is. Ahnuld is jealous cos he knows he'll never be president.

Although as an actor, he makes a great candidate for the party of liars and intellectual lightweights.

California should pass a proposition demanding drug tests for governors. Watch Arnold run!

I can't wait to see what Obama does with this line - it's always funny to see him riff off the Republican goons!
Please CA - let's re-call the governator who is doing so much damage to our state budget and education - he obviously can't even add!

All the "saints" in the twisted christian dogma were basically thieves & liars or worse, many of them incited "witch" burning, roasting poor women alive - as entertainment or worse for the drunken crowds.

Look at Rome, close-up, everything in its gilded churches that glitters gold was basically stolen from people in the European countries & territories under r.c. domination.

Really disappointed in both Austria and you, Arnold.

I gladly returned my Austrian citizenship - and you didn't?

About the steroids you started swallowing in Austria, that's not Obama's style to muscle-up illegally with chemicals.

Anyway, anyone who does karate will tell you: the bigger they are, harder they fall... down.

The only problem with talking about Europe, is the average American never gets to go to Europe to see for theirselves how Western Europeans live.

You can have Capitolism and it can work, you can have Social Capitalism and it can work, but niether will work with poor managers and ignorant uneducated citizens.

The USA has people in government stealing from tax payers. The USA has presidents giving out contracts to family friends and they dont even forfill the contracts.

Whos fault is that? Don't talk about what you do not know, talk about what you know is rotten in your own country first. It's the USA that screwed up Irak, its the USA that screwed up it's own voting machines!

Blam the USA for not funtioning right under it's current form of government!

Umm, does Governor Schwarzenegger not understand that would be grossly unethical and possibley illegal (I'm not a lawyer, so I don't know)? If I give any candidate my money for his or her campaign, that's what he is supposed to use it for. If I wanted my money to go for hurricane relief or foreclosure assistance I can find out a nonprofit that does those things. In fact, I also donated to the Red Cross this summer at the urging of the Obama website.

It's fine for Obama to encourage his donors to give to other causes like the Red Cross, which he has done consistently. But he would have no right to take my money that was freely given to him for the purpose of winning this election, and choosing to spend it on something else, as Schwarzenegger suggests.

AP: Obama’s aunt living in U.S. illegally
Immigration judge denied Kenyan woman’s request for asylum in 2004
updated 11:27 p.m. ET, Fri., Oct. 31, 2008
WASHINGTON - Barack Obama's aunt, a Kenyan woman who has been quietly living in public housing in Boston, is in the United States illegally after an immigration judge rejected her request for asylum four years ago, The Associated Press has learned.

Zeituni Onyango, 56, referred to as "Aunti Zeituni" in Obama's memoir, was instructed to leave the United States by a U.S. immigration judge who denied her asylum request, a person familiar with the matter told the AP late Friday. This person spoke on condition of anonymity because no one was authorized to discuss Onyango's case.

Information about the deportation case was disclosed and confirmed by two separate sources, one of them a federal law enforcement official. The information they made available is known to officials in the federal government...

Again- she's living in public housing in Boston, which means she's not only illegally here- We're paying to keep a roof over her head, while her Millionaire nephew tells US that he wants to decide how to "spread the wealth around"!

It is really sad that the McCain campaign along with Fox News have worked impressionable people up into such a frenzy that they are beside themselves. There's no point in posting comments trying to convince people to vote for anybody. I've never heard anyone say they changed their vote because of something some random blogger wrote. AP poll: 1 in 7 voters still persuadable

WASHINGTON - Patrick Campbell worries Barack Obama will raise his taxes but thinks John McCain will send people off to war. He says that leaves him leaning toward Obama ... maybe.

"I'm split right down the middle," said the 50-year-old Air Force Reserve technician from Amherst, N.Y. "Each one has things that are good for me and things that are bad for me. And people like me."

With the sand in the 2008 campaign hourglass about depleted, Campbell is part of a stubborn wedge of people who, somehow, are still making up their minds about who should be president. One in seven, or 14 percent, can't decide, or back a candidate but might switch, according to an Associated Press-Yahoo (nasdaq: YHOO - news - people ) News poll of likely voters released Friday.

As a Californian I can tell you the Governator should have chosen his words a bit more carefully ... he has currently driven the CA budget $7 billion into the red after slinking into office after a disgraceful recall campaign incited against Gray Davis because of Enron's dirty tricks. This guy has a lot of nerve ... I heard a Chinese-American woman on a radio call in show who actually escaped Communism and had seen Socialism up front and she was outraged that Republicans would try to equate those atrocities to the progressive tax system. Sen. Obama has skinny legs and arms, because he has been heavy smoker. No wonder, they do not want to release his health records – brewing lung cancer? He definitely needs meat on his ideas, more fat less socialism. Gov. Schwarzenegger hit the nail on the head when he mentioned his escape from the socialist Europe. Paradoxically, Europeans have adopted many American ways in the meantime; however, Obama wants to go back to the future of European socialism here in America.

Schwarzenegger should have stuck with the "Pump you up" stuff. That was funny and also straightforward. He lost me when he tried to split hairs on what makes someone a socialist.

So, let's see if I have the Governor's logic straight:

If you are the Governor and raise taxes on everyone in your state to cover programs aimed mostly at the state's neediest: Not a socialist.

If you are running for President and propose to raise taxes only on the top five percent but cut taxes for every one else: socialist.
