Obama Casts Ballot in Chicago
By Eli Saslow
CHICAGO -- Barack Obama arrived at Beulah Shoesmith Elementary School to cast a vote for himself at 7:36 a.m. today. He walked into his neighborhood polling location with his wife, Michelle, and their two daughters, Sasha and Malia. Obama took breaks from the ballot to look at his daughters and smile. He finished in a few minutes. Michelle took a few minutes longer.
"Voting with my daughters," he said, "that was a big deal."
It was also the beginning of what will be a long final day of this presidential campaign for Obama. A motorcade took him from Shoesmith to Chicago Midway Airport. He will fly briefly to Indianapolis to visit polls there, then travel back to Chicago for a few hours of satellite media time. He will play basketball with some friends at a downtown athletic club and then relax at home before making his way to his final rally of this campaign, in Grant Park.
Before Obama boarded his "Change" plane for the final trip of his campaign, a reporter asked him if he felt sentimental.
"You know, I'm sure I will tonight," he said. "That's when the polls close and the journey ends."
