In Chicago, Obama Returns Calls From World Leaders

By Michael D. Shear
Ever wonder what a president-elect does with all that time before he actually takes over the most powerful job on Earth?

Well, according to Barack Obama's aides, he spends a lot of time on the phone.

Throughout the day Tuesday, Obama returned calls from world leaders -- including the Pope and the president of Kenya, his father's homeland -- who had sent their congratulations on his victory, a spokesman said.

Aides put out the list of leaders late Tuesday night (see below). One can imagine that Obama might continue making calls today, as he hunkers down in Chicago for the rest of the week (Chief of Transition John Podesta told reporters they should plan to remain in the Windy City for the forseeable future).

"I think that he's tried to return those phone calls in due order and, particularly, to our traditional partners and allies," Podesta told reporters yesterday. "And as those calls are made, it is our intention to brief them out to the press, and subsequent calls that were also made."

Given the lack of other news from the transition team, and with no public schedule for today released for the president-elect, the list of who he called yesterday was eagerly awaited by reporters. Here it is:

President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva of Brazil
His Holiness Pope Benedict XVI
Prime Minister Manmohan Singh of India
His Majesty King Abdullah of Jordan
President Mwai Kibaki of Kenya

It is you Mr President in January, if the Republicans have left any change in the purse to make changes. I believe as a white Canadian, you will do it. It does hurt to say white, believe me Sir and the people of America but it is a a fact.

Dear Mr. President Obama, may God Bless you and safe gaurd you and your family through this new challenge of change.
And for to Senator palin VP wishful, I say this.
Please, leave Mrs Palon alone. She is a by gone, a misfit, a religious fanatic. Man your media must be desperate for news.
The news is, thousands of children are deformed in Iraq, because of your illegal bomb and Awe. Well, The sad part also is many of your brave young men and women will be coming home with the same health issues. Do I hear a disagreement?, because of all the air polution from these bombs. I being a dad and grandfather would want your kids back NOW. They voted for th?,is change. Senator Palon and all your religion fanatics, best save your ass for it is you whom bring on the evil, and this very immature caricature of a future President. Give us all a break. To all, especially the well wishers and voters of your, could be, great country. May your god bless you. You can do it.
From Canada. The sad truth is if not for oil we would not be there. There will never be change for we are hated and History does not tell lies. Bombs away until January. Oh man, what have we done??

Here is my question to you:

Can you please describe to me the coordinated and concerted action that must take across the board in order to carry out the following, in the United States of America: "CO-OPT, DISARM POTENTIAL 'SILENT COUP'" ??????

As for the other commentator:

As President-elect has already reiterated, there is only one administration in at a time. He will begin his policy-making once he assumes the post for which he was elected. Anything that happens from now until January 20th is on the watch of the guy in there at the moment.

Also, please remain cognizant of all of the damage that must first be repaired, which is the leftover of the Bush years. Therefore, while President-elect Obama will immediately begin executing at least a part of his economic proposal, his goals will have to also fit in with undoing much of what has hurt the US over the last 8 years.

Obama talks with world leaders but won't listen to American citizens saying SECURE OUR BORDERS.

Look at current videos of illegal aliens coming across the border - day and night.
